    Dayz's- Believe it or Not

Believe it or not. There were noobs shooting out of being surprised, apologizing immediately to me, and i let them live. But there were noobs shooting out of being surprised, not apologizing to me, i took down as soon as the time they are given to react was over. I think more and more players that are on for a longer time, don't want to KoS anymore. they don't care about dying any longer, as they are waiting for Standalone, but are looking for more than just deathmatching. In my experience, the Region you live in determines your experience a lot. I found european servers to be a bit more peaceful than American ones so far. I haven't played on Australian servers so far, but I hear they are PvP arenas too, due to a lack of servers being offered there. Don't know exactly why that is, but I don't find it very hard to find positive interactions with people on european servers, but know the PVP-Sides as well. They are just more present in other continents it seems.

When is it Okay to KoS?

In my books, that's not really KoS. You talked to him first and he verbally attacked you. that's a reasonable kill. It's like a new-spawn running around you. Talking shit to you, getting close enough to access your backpack. After you told him 2 or 3 times to piss off, no one can blame you for killing him. Even putting a bullet in his leg and letting him rot there, is a valid response in such a situation. But If you, f.e. are in the forest-region, near the coast, because you just left cherno moving north and you see a freshspawn running on the road into cherno, there is no explanation in the world, that would explain why it is necessary for your survival to turn around and kill him. If you wanted that extra bandage, you could have taken it 30 seconds ago when you passed the hospital. I fear some people don't even see the difference here... Edit: one of my commanders during military training used to say, that you should never blow away the full degree of being an asshole right away, because there is no way to increase it later. Always be just a slight bit more of an asshole, than the other one. I respect that in dayZ by not hiding bodies of killed enemies, unless they play unfair in my eyes. I would never destroy a camp, unless I think the owners deserve to loose everything. You never know if you need the other group one day. I've seen a nice stream playing takistan live, where a group discussed wether attacking another group was a good idea or not, considering that the group sells cheap guns to them. THATs what I'd like to see in DayZ too. that the reason "there is nothing I could want from them" vanishes, because there really can be something.

    NPC poll

Honestly, I understand what possibilities NPCs bring and how they could affect the game, but for vanilla dayZ I do not want to see them. It's about how people play together. I hope tough, that some private servers will include NPCs, just so we can compare how different it feels. But without grey area: NO for npcs in vanilla dayZ

Install ArmA II + OA for DayZ?

He already bought Complete Collection, so there is not really anything cheaper for him. @OP: Arma II + Arma II OA + Arma II OA Beta should be installed automatically by steam. Use DayZ Commander to download the rest. Just click "install" next to the mod you like to play and it will do the rest. If I remember correctly, the British Pack will provide you with higher res ghillie and camo models, so you might want to install that too, just because you bought it anyways and using the lower resolution models doesn't make sense in that case.

    [SA] Prevent meta-gaming

I like the idea of having some loot very visible, some loot hidden and some loot locked in. I just don't think that "shoot it" should be the answer to every question. open with key, Pick lock, pry open door, axe down door as options should be more than enough for a door or crate. But somehow, not being able to make my own tent, that I sit in, to shelter myself from wind and rain, hinders the metagaming aspect a lot more in my opinion, than there not being locked away loot. Don't know how much time I spent in that deerstand close to my base to avoid a cold while having a break during rain.... Hiding in Trees does sheltler from bullets and zombies, but not rain...

When is it Okay to KoS?

@OT: reasonable assumption, that the player is out to kill on sight himself. If Side-chat is mentioning a DMR Ghillie Sniper terrorizing Cherno, and you see someone there, matching that description, it is legitimate to KoS. If you strafe along sniper hill and notice a sniper, shooting at noobs in the city, it is legitimate to KoS. If you see a player attacking another player, and you feel that his attack was unfair, it is legitmate to KoS I also think, it is two different things, wether u encounter a single survivor or a group. As a group provides protection to those in it, as well as more danger to those not in it, they already have a natural advantage. And with groups, you usually don't run into them by accident, not knowing that they were there. Groups are usually a lot more visible than individuals. 1 player, attacking 5 good player, will usually die even if he has the advantage of surprise. Attacking a larger group when alone requires a lot of self confidence and skill, so there is not really a benefit in doing so. 2 Groups encountering each other, are very unlikely to cooperate anyways, as there is no need to find others for teamwork. If they wanted to grow. Adding indiviuduals is usually prefered over merging with another group, just for matters of keeping control. So in conclusion: You should only KoS individuals if you are sure they KoS other players and will KoS you, if they see you. If you encounter groups, you should be free to attack them, no matter wether you are alone or in an equal sized group. "Bashing the Weak" just shouldn't be a noble deed. But you should do what you must do to survive. edit: I like to distinguish between KoS (shooting others on sight, out of fear that they might shoot you) and Deathmatching (the general goal of killing as many player as possible). In this post, I was referring to the general practice of Shooting without warning tough.

    Commit Suicide with razors

I'd like to be able to use the razor as a melee weapon with very very small damage, but 1-hit-kill when you manage to hit the throat. I'd also like to be able to throw rolls of toilet-paper, without them making any damage whatsoever. Toiletpaper can later be replaced with cats. I want to throw cats. To complete the image, I am planning on wearing a dirty leather coat, boots, that leave my toes out in the air to breath, a nice hat and a swarm of flies following me. You will be able to find me in Cherno then. But jokes aside. If shaving isn't implemented, having it usable for crafting seems a valid point. Sharp metal blade must be usable for something. Be it as part of a mechanism of a trap or combining a branch of a tree with 8 razors, to create a spiked club that leaves it's mark.

Weapons I Want in DayZ SA

mhm.. just looked it up.. seems you are right.. maybe i had another gun in mind and mistook them.. anyways. You are correct. But there seem to be some custom addons like longer mags and a stock. Having those alone, with a semi and a full-auto variant of the glock, would give several different types of guns. I personally love the g17 in the mod. It's the most reliable handgun in my opinion. even tough the damage is not that impressive, the fire-rate, accuracy and ease of aiming, make up for it many times. A .45 glock would sweeten things up tough. My greatest wish gun still is the VSS Vintorez tough. I know it's probably too strong for the game, but I love that rifle so much. 400m silenced sniper-shots that pierce armor is just the nicest way of taking down enemies there is. Be it a single shot to the head or just tapping twice to the chest. The enemy goes down. 20 rounds full auto also make it a nice close combat rifle if things get tough... I just know how people would abuse it's awesomeness to do bad things. :-(

    First bandit kill :D

it's a great feeling isn't it. My first kill was a guy who claimed to be friendly on side-chat, causing every other player currently on to scream out warnings not to trust him, as he seems to have killed many regulars and friends of the server-owner the last days and combatlogged with m4a1CCO SD and AS50 of one of the Admins, who was pretty pissed about it. I was playing with a friend and we took shelter in North East airfield Hangars. The guy drove onto the airfield with his UAZ, got out, and started to shoot at us, first with as50, then m4CCO, but didn't hit. (standing on the open field, he was not really a good player in my opinion...) I crawled to the door. leaned out, aimed with my m24 (a rifle I dearly love ever since), BAM, Shot to the chest, Kill-message, and a Wave of cheers over side-channel, thanking me for taking that guy down. My hands were shaking. I had to have a smoke before I could even walk out and loot the corpse. Gave the AS50 back to it's rightful owner later, but kept M4CCO SD and NVGs I took from the corpse (but lost them later due to a hacker... luck never stays with me for very long in dayZ)
  11. I don't think looking at the skin in the current mod is going to prove anything. If you shot 2 people in self defense, you can already be a bandit. You can shoot a million people on other servers, switch and you are a survivor with a clean history. Personally, I think KoS is born out of Fear. But cowardice is an important player in survival, so that's ok with me. I base my actions on gear and behavior of the player I encounter. If he tries to get into a defensive position and stays silent, he's toast. If he greets from distance and approaches only after I agreed that he can, he get's a chance. But if the player is better equipped and at a location I need nothing from, I try to evade him, so I can continue on without him noticing me. But If I evade people, I usually make 3 or 4 Stops on the first 500 m. each for several minutes. just to make sure i am not followed or detected. tl;dr: the skin is not important, treat any survivor on how he behaves and what threat his weapons are to you.

Weapons I Want in DayZ SA

I think I don't have to mention what weapon I'd like to see in Standalone. But in general you should never forget to consider weapon-modifications. AK-74 variants and M4 variants are very grateful models, as they come in many sizes, shapes and with lots of extras like scopes, launchers and other stuff to put onto them. Before any amount of pretty unique rifles or handguns is added, I'd like to see basic, civilian guns that offer similar traits implemented. The g17 Pistol for example can be modified with 30 round mag, a silencer, a laser and a scope. there even is a shoulder-stock you can attach to it. You can basically transform a g17 and many other glock pistols into full-auto SMGs just by attachments. Having a weapon like that, with all it's attachements would bring a lot more different, interesting and customizable weapon variants, than any single weapon, no matter how cool it would be, could ever bring on it's own. But I agree on the .45, HP ammo missing in the game. Nothing pierced holes into unarmored zombies like my good old .45 (back in stalker at least)

    Skill System in DayZ?

GEAR IS ALL THERE IS i think that's important to remember. I think there should be sets of Items for repairing, medical and building. The more parts you have, the more likely and the faster the process can go. But you need to collect it over time. But that's the closest to "leveling" skills I'd go.

    Make banditry be punished

I've said it before, but I think humanity should be expressed through facial expressions. Happy for good humanity, evil looking, for bad humanity. If the character engine allows that, having killed 1 or 2 people, might not make the difference, but a bandit that's been killing for weeks, will be distinguishable, if you manage to get close enough. It wont stop him from sniping you, but make it more difficult to interact with other players as they might distrust you for it. But I think clothes for distinguishing how good or bad someone is are already out of the picture. The whole Bandit/Hero system is to be replaced as far as I got it.

I want some old school Dayz!!

Just look for a Server that doesn't use any cheat-protection and use hacks like all the other people who can't play. if you really don't want to risk anything at all and still not work for your experience, there is also the option of watching lets plays and twitch streams. But playing the game, with less actual playing than that isn't possible. You might want to look at a screenshot of DayZ just to be completely safe. */sarcasm*

How do you fly the Helicopter?

depends.. if starting and landing with autohover=on, turning into the direction you want to go and go their straight forward is "knowing how to fly a heli", everyone can do it in 10min. If you want to go in low, set the flying tincan down, have your mates jump out and lift of in under 20 seconds, you better invest a few month. Just look at the videos of people who know how to fly helis in arma, to see what flying a heli in arma is supposed to be like. If you use auto-hover, you don't know how to fly a heli. I practiced a day just to get lift-off with a quick 180° turn and flying off in the opposite direction you faced on the ground. And that's just one thing you should be able to do if you want to consider your self able to fly a heli. tl;dr: there is a difference between safely starting and landing a heli and being able to fly a heli.
  18. The only realistic perk would be, if NPC traders gave better prices and sell more rare stuff to heroes, as they admire them, while they might refuse to sell to bandits or charge a lot more. But this would require NPCs. Also I think the Availability of Ammo is something very important. Deathmatchers rarely use bolt action rifles or handguns, they always go for the military grade weapon, just because ammo is avaliable everywhere. I think I found 2000 DMR mags so far, without having found a single DMR for at least 3 month.
  19. liquidmind

    Cause I can........

That's not a bandit code, that's the code of Deathmatching. Bandit code is: 1) Never loot yourself 2) If someone has gear you want, take it 3) If no one has gear you need, capture a survivor and see 1) Bandit: A robber or outlaw belonging to a gang and typically operating in an isolated or lawless area Saying that loot isn't important for a bandit, is missing the point of being a bandit. People who shoot at everyone are usually called mentally Ill and/or are from texas.

Anyone else miss when you were a noob?

The first 2 or 3 weeks, I didn't dare to even go to NWAF, just because of the rumors I heard about how much PVP was going on there. The first 1 or 2 times I went there, I returned immediately when I saw other players even close to that place. Now.. I just leave all the vital stuff at my tent, run straight through fields with my g17 and 2 SD mags and loot the airfield several times a day, not caring wether I get killed or not, because I know it's all about how often I check and how much room I have in my inventory to take stuff with me. In the beginning, I didn't dare to loot anything with zombies around me. Now I now exactly how long a zombie needs to get close to me and perform his first hit, so I can take stuff I wouldn't have taken otherwise. I know that I can run from lootspot to lootspot, with hundreds of zombies on my tail, because if i find something of value, I run around 2 corners, throw a smoke, sneak back and get it, 10x faster than sneaking all the way. Now I'm grateful for every server that doesn't show my position on the map, forcing me to navigate by myself, giving at least a bit of the sense of being lost back. Considering that the loot will spawn on server-start and will be on a lot more different spots than it is now, having to search through buildings you haven't even looked at before, will hopefully give back that sense of not having a masterplan for everything.
  21. liquidmind

    Starting Gear.. sucks.

no problem with custom loot, but I don't even like servers where you start with a makarov, let alone stronger firearms. I understand that servers with special zones (like trading zones) give maps into start-loot. I can live with having 2 bandages and 1 morphine from the beginning, just to be able to cure a broken bone. Can of coke and can of beans, also ok. But the only thing starter-weapons do, is transform a server into a PVP deathmatch arena. I don't like that at all.
  22. I think it's very unlikely that a .php file is a key-stealer. PHP-Files are html-files, marked to be pre-processed by a php-server to be shown to the client as html. They only work server-side. If you don't have a server installed, they are nothing but a text-file to your PC. They are not executable. .exe, .msi, and other executables could to it, but certainly not a text-file.
  23. liquidmind

    Standalone Zombies a bit OTT?

I think the purpose of the Zombie-movement part in the video was to explain to the people why the zombies behaved the way they behaved previously and how they changed that. The speed and overall behavior cannot be considered final tough. I think there will be a lot more tweaking with the AI. The straight pathfinding is just the central feature of the new AI.

Can you get 30 Slot Servers?

I've seen hosters where you could buy a 3-slot server if you wanted. But if you want to make the server public and use the official hive, it should be 40 or larger. Some only offer 40+ because u pay for the slots, not the players that are on.

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

I actually can. In my opinion. Ammo is far to common at the moment. I usually find 20-30 AK mags, before I even see my first AK. Going to Cherno with your military weapon will never cause you to run out of bullets. There are a few things about Standalone, that makes me think this will change in the future. a) you will be required to load ammo into mags, hopefully you will have to find the mags too. This could cause problems with ammo, if you only have 1 mag, that needs manual refill once unloaded. B) destructible gear once shot upon. Like mentioned, it would give an argument not to shoot. c) Infections that might be on clothes you pick up of players, might have an increased chance when the clothes are bloody, so shooting someone for his clothes will be a worse option, than robbing him. d) Environmental effects, Infection, Disease, are all risks that will come in addition to what we all know now. Having to take care of your injury or disease for several hours, just because you wanted to kill that noob and he got a lucky shot, will cause people to think twice before approaching. e) Server-spawned and controlled zombies with improved pathfinding, that will roam through the forests I really hope that these things will play out the way I imagine them. I hate it, when I avoid players to immerse into the feeling of things being rare, just to have that player running straight at me, spraying his AK in my direction, the second he sees me.
