    Okay, so I crash while in Tisy, now there's the chance I'm gonna be randomly put in the debug plains or even wind up inside NWAF, or I yank my internet while in NWAF and I wind up in Tisy or stuck in a god damn house. Sounds like a lot of work on the Devs end for no reward, I'd rather they find other ways to punish server hoppers/ghosters.

    No, it doesn't make sense, and did you really need to post this three times? And how does this system determine where someone will show up if they find a way to logout/crash in one of these 'no logout zones'?

    *New England Accent* "Nobody goes up to the old Brig Building any more. Used to be a nice place, until some bad eggs moved in way back in '46. Things just went downhill from there, bunch of deaths started taking place there, people disappearing all the time. Got so bad even the Government had to step in shut it down. Some still say it was built on an old burial ground outta reclaimed wood from an asylum where that fire started that was built on top of an even bigger burial ground. No one goes up there anymore. Though some people say they can still hear laughing coming from the building, and curious fools keep wandering in, never to be seen again. Others say there's a Ritual you can do to get back something ya lost and then some, except ya might not like what ya get, since they say 'ole Battleeye watches over the place, just waiting patiently to curse those who break the Taboos."

    Pretty sure there's no plans on BI's front to make any new maps until after Release. And we're not even in beta yet so...

    Modding 1.0?. File format. Mod approval.

    Think it's been said that Modding/modding support will begin sometime in Beta, which should begin 'Soon' (or rather after the new Engine is finished). Others have mentioned that there will be an aproval process for mods, and I would think that would be for the 'easy download' mods that they would put in Steam Workshop, though I'm sure there will be 'unofficial' mods.

    Zod is right in that zombies don't bite when they attack, but I think it is planned for them to be able to infect us with different viruses (not the zombie virus of course). There was talk of zombie 'Lifespans' in the past, was never fully explained (at least that I saw, I'm sure it was somewhere I missed), but I think they mean things like injuries and the like sticking with zombies, IE if you cripple one it'll crawl or hop instead of run, and even the possibilty of zombies dying of hunger or injuries after a set time (thus allowing 'fresh' zombies to respawn)

    Oh my, someone complaining about the lack of supplies in a post apocalyptic setting? Brace yourself for when they do adjust the loot tables (and not in the direction you want them to).

    True, I was just using these as an example to say that we're not going to go from heat stroke to blizzard in a couple of hours, or even days. And it will be transitional as well, so it won't just be -60 from the first day of winter to the first day of spring.

    There's some good ideas here, but not all make sense in a post apocalyptic setting, much less one that isn't in the USA, it also adds a bit too much complexity. The ability to swap out triggers, BCGs, lowers/uppers ect on an M4 is a stretch considering the setting and availability of parts. However, such things as being able to swap out/modify stocks on certain rifles (the Mosin and SKS most easily come to mind) as well as 'general purpose' parts that can be added to a majority of guns via the 'crafting stations' that were hinted at. For example, being able to make a 'sporterized' stock for the mosin/SKS to reduce weight at some (realistic) cost, IE less melee damage (when ranged weapon melee is added) with a sporter stock or the inability to mount a bayonet on the SKS. Another example would be modding an SKS to take AK mags (something that would require some advance knowledge as well as grinding and welding, so a 'crafting table' and proper tools would be required) which would be irreversible. This would also work with the 'sporterized' stock idea, as you could either make a stock from scratch (requiring wood, crafting table, tools, and time), modify an existing stock taken off the rifle (crafting table, tools, less time), cutting down barrels to make SBRs/Pistols (as well can for the mosin, less inventory space for less accuracy/some other trade off), making 'take down' guns and other 'Bubba' mods as we call them in the US. They could add some 'tactical' stocks to game for certain guns but they would have to be rare. I also mentioned earlier about 'general purpose' or generic parts, things that could be added to many weapons, like the hunting scope. So you could say mount a small picatinny rail for to certain weapons (mostly civilian weapons) so you can mount things like flashlights/lasers foregrips ect. (Unrelated note: You can't just swap out a barrel and BCG and fire .308WIN/7.62NATO out of an AR15/M4 rifle, you're probably thinking of the AR10 which has a larger magwell to accommodate said round, I'm also pretty sure they use a different buffer and spring, if not a different buffer tube as well.)

    My understanding is that weather will be set to 'real time' conditions, IE it will be cold during the winter months and hot during summer months.

    No Gear After Exiting The Game

    You've gone from a public hive server to a private hive, or gone to two different private hives. Public Servers are all connected to the same Hive, so you can go from say Public 1 to Public 2 and still have all your gear. On a Private Server your gear only stays on that Hive, IE If you go from 'Jimmy's Awesomesauce Server' to anywhere else you won't keep that equipment, however if you go back to Jimmy's server you'll have all your equipment back from your last play session. More than one server can be on the same hive (I haven't witnessed it myself yet) so in theory a group can have several servers linked together, IE [MLG Clan] PVP Server 1, [MLG Clan] PVP Server 2, [MLG Clan] PVE Server, can all be under it's own hive. Servers will say weather they are public or private hive in the server browser.

    I would say that the reason why we're not getting steady or small updates is because .61 changes so much that trying to release it as small chunks would just not work, things inter-depending on one another and the like. I'd also so that we're not getting any new 'content' because anything else they have would need the new engine in it's entirety or would just be 'filler' stuff that we don't really need at the moment and would be detracting. I mean at the moment do we really need 16 different types of bolt action rifles when zombies aren't even fully functional? They need to focus on the big stuff so we can finally move out of dreaded Alpha stage and into Beta so we can finally start seeing the 'regular' content updates and bug fixes. That's not how updates work, there's not 40 more updates till 1.0. There will be as many as there will take, if there's 40 more updates it won't turn some magic speedometer over to 1.0 now we release, it'll be 0.100 update.

    Thoughts about base building

    Well that's kind of the thing about DayZ, there is no safety. 'Base Building' isn't even in it's infancy yet in game so it's kind of hard to say 'oh this should be like this' since we have almost no example to go on other than 'use lockpick to lock door, put stuff in cabinet, log out' or 'pitch tent in woods, put stuff in tent, log out'. We have seen some art of what they want base building to be and some of their ideas, but to be honest a determined individual or group will find ways around locks. For example, one of the things they want to do is have it so someone could take over an already existing building, locking/barricading doors and windows and using objects inside (IE cabinets for storage, stove/fireplace for cooking), but considering all someone has to do to unlock your door is to either find a lockpick or a sledgehammer, it makes it kinda moot. The ability to make traps (lethal/less-than-lethal) would help to slow down if not stop a raider, but persistance issues would have to be solved first. What's the point of setting up a base and traps to defend it if either the traps or the loot goes poof on a restart? Even with the best traps and locks it's only a mater of time for someone to gain access to your gear, and thats not even counting if it's just a collection of tents out in the middle of the woods, because a knife will render any sort of lock moot. I remember in the mod they had sandbags, barbwire, and tank traps (hedgehogs I think they called them) as a means of protecting your base, but still, someone with a Ural could just ram the barbwire or sandbags, or if they had a toolkit they could take down the tank traps and barbwire, and use an E tool to take down the sandbags, and your collection of vintage beans and STANAG is now in the back of someone's Ural. Along those lines I think it would be nice if there were traps or other defenses set up you would need tools to counteract them. IE a pair of pliers and a knife to defuse a landmine, a stick to trigger a beartrap, tossing rocks on a pressure plate, ect. But other than traps players need to be sneaky with how they do things (buried stashes are going to be a thing as far as I know) there shouldn't be some failsafe defense against theft so someone can just put up their nukeproof shelter in the middle of Cherno with unhackable keycode biometric NPC guarded steel door they looted from the White House Bunker.

    Considering there's no in depth customization for players yet, we're all pretty much the same size and shape, so there wouldn't be much of a point.

    how do you load a gun?

    Haven't played for a while but as far as I know now, pressing R just cycles the action of the gun, Guessing you have to reload 'manually' like before where you drag the magazine to the gun (or use the scrollwheel if that's still a thing) No idea on your hot key issue, guessing your bags might not have room for what's in your hand.

    It's Wednesday somewhere so servers may be offline for maintenance. Or you may be in Experimental build, which I don't think there is one currently so that would explain that. Double check your Steam to make sure you have the most current version of DayZ.

    Base Building?

    I was speaking in response to edoian. But yeah, it would be kinda cool if they added a lock picking mini game, otherwise you can just lock/unlock doors with a mouse scroll and click. Would make it so there's a minor risk involved since you'll be busy lock picking, but maybe less dangerous than just shooting out locks or bashing doors. (when zombies and stealth mechanics are working properly) Although some doors should be able to be locked from one side without a lockpick/key. This mechanic could also be used to make 'prisons'. Claim a building as your own, pick a room, use a screwdriver to swap the knob around and use it to keep prisoners/zombies.
