fortification and suggestions
IkaikaKekai replied to whatsmynameagain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Id like to see a bulldozer or other form of clearing debris off the roads or towns. -
I think just regular bears or other (native to Chenarus) forest animals would be scary enough, and a reason to set up barbwire around a camp rather than to just slow players down.

You know whats really annoying...
IkaikaKekai replied to dulix11's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Number 2 is possibly a scriptkiddie ('hacker' aka 13 year old who bought some scripts) one of the more annoying things they do. Break bones then teleport you outside the map. -
Hmm, I think securing a building should be more persistent, but have some kind of safeguard put in to say keep people from just making Cherno Zombie Free. Maybe not all buildings can be secured (some buildings easier than others, some MUCH harder). Id love to see something like this, go into a town or city, clear out a building, barricade it and make it defensible (at least to zombies) and used as a 'permanent' base. Depending on how its secured (Say a warehouse could be secured with just some chains and say a carbineer clip (anti zombie, cant lock players out)) you could set up shop in an apartment building. Barricade/secure the front door and lower level windows to keep the zombies out, kill any and all zombies inside (to make it secure and nonspawning, otherwise you've just locked the zombies in), maybe find/make something like a rope ladder out of a window (i honestly dont think that zombies should be able to climb at all in stand alone) so you have a way out if you don't want to have an openable door. Then you could go about 'restoring' the building with various loot (generators and gas to turn the lights back on and charge batteries, scrap metal and water containers for toilets, showers ect, clean the building up/sanitize it to decrease chance of infection, set up shelves and other stuff as storage, set up a small surgery room, lab, workshop, ect) Along the lines of a safeguard say make it so if you have attracted 5 or more zombies to the door they can start breaking it down. Players/bandits could destroy the barricades in some manner (Molotovs come to mind). Not all buildings being able to be secured (say can't fully secure a hospital or factory) also to discourage people from just securing a whole town make it so items will no longer spawn in a secured building, only whats already in and what you bring in (another reason to not secure a hospital, no more meds spawning) Something I mentioned above could be used as a trap, say someone locks up a building but doenst kill the all zombies (either dies or just locks them in) to stop them from spawning, whoever goes in could make the mistake of unlocking the door thinking its safe and BOOM, 20 zombies come rushing out of the door. This could be something awsome, Do you want to set up a bunker for you and your group out in the woods, or secure and clear the international hotel and use that as your group's base.

I do like the idea. Perhaps make the 'traveler's map' fairly common (found in gas stations, stores, bus stops, ect) and make that the map you can 'scribble' on, fill out more details, ect. Make it so that map markers don't transfer to all maps, but rather stay on your own, this has been suggested along the lines of player journals and notes, so say you could 'safely' mark down your camp's location, but if you die or are robbed whoever takes your map now has all the information on it. The 'higher grade' maps would of course be more rare or in certain locations (say in a school or maybe a government building (civil government not military) and of course the highest would be military maps that show 'everything' or possibly already have notes on them (pre-post infection) that could hint to unmarked bases or vehicle spawns, (SGT Arkady took shelter here with 4th Mech Division; Cpt. Breznev's T-72 broke down here; ect) *EDIT* also make it so you'd have to take time to 'scribble' out a map, not something automatically done as you run around (like minecraft)

That percentage should be tied in with hitboxes rather than individual weapons, or possibly tie it in with bullet type rather (after all, with the possible exception of shotguns, what difference would it make if 5.56 was shot out of an AK or a M4 or even if you just hit the primer with a hammer as long as you hit). A shot to the legs with a small caliber would have say 5% 'fast bleedout', 20% breaking bone/leg, ect.
-
Correct term would be 'less than lethal'. But fuck yes I would love to have the options. Id be more apt to actually try and shoot people if I had beanbag rounds or a tranq gun. Few examples would include: Pepper spray (there's multipul types along this route, Ive even heard of paintball casings being filled with pepper spray, glue and other irritants used by police), Beanbag rounds, Tranquilizer darts, tazers/stunguns, teargas, koshes blackjacks billyclubs ect. This does open up 'slavery' options as well. Imagine: Heading into Electro alone to get some food and drinks for your camp (crappy day of hunting). You pop into the grocery store and hear 'FREEZE MUTHAFUCKA!' and two shots. Get knocked out and in the 'passout' blur you see one or two bandits disarm you and handcuff you, drag you into the back of their car. 'Alright bitch you got two options. One, you do what the fuck we tell you and you might get your shit back when this is done. Two, we take your shit and dump you in the middle of a bunch of zombies handcuffed and naked.' The mechanics behind it would need work ('fuck you guys *alt F4*' comes to mind)

You sir, get my beans, however I will disagree with you on one point, a .50 BMG is a HUGE round with a lot of power behind it, while yes, getting shot in say the foot or hand might not kill you in real life you're probably gonna wish you were dead (and you won't have a hand or foot, at least not in a recognizable form), the shock from getting hit and the blood loss would kill you relatively quickly. Even the shock wave from a near miss (within a foot I believe) is enough to daze someone. Back on topic, yes there should be a chance of (maybe not an instant death) but a fast bleed out on certain parts of the body. How many 'rappers' have died from getting a friend to shoot them in a leg or 'non-vital' part, and nicked an artery and bled out before any form of help could be summoned. Not sure if its the same thing, but I believe Rocket mentioned hitboxes and equipment damage, (paraphrasing here) 'Shooting someone in the head for their night vision will more than likely destroy the night vision.'

Not sure if this should be one post or 2-3 but here goes... Add a 2nd bag/pack for looting. While holding this '2nd pack' you can only use your pistol (with an option to quickly drop your bag and so you can use your main weapon, but anyone can pick up the bag) or flashlight (or however the flashlight system will be). The packs would range in size and type, starting with a grocery bag (6 slots, commonly found in markets) pillowcases (8 slots, found in bedrooms), burlap/canvas sacks (12 or so slots, found occasionally in barns) gunnysacks (16 or so, found on bases/barracks), and dufflebags (like 20 or more slots, very rarely found in residential and military bases, think handheld coyote pack). Would make it 'easier' for scavengers to collect gear and supplies, and load them up into a vehicle (maybe make them take up backpack slots or take up a little less inventory slots than they can carry, but say you cant put them in packs). *Added* -being able to pick up ammo boxes (like at crash sites) and carry them off (one hander so can still use a pistol) and use at your base (fill with a little more ammo or set em up like tents or in tents to organize ammo better ((AS50 round in this box, Stanag in this box, ect)) ) Boxes/crates: Make it so you can pick up a box or crate, an example would be going into a hospital, grabbing a box of medical supplies (would have to limit how much can be put int he box so people aren't just stuffing 20 guns in a 1' x 1' x 1' cardboard box) and either carrying it back to your camp or your vehicle to load it up (limits on space, say cant load up a bike with 10 boxes, maybe just one or 2, tie it in with the bags mentioned above). Also add crates occasionally found in the backrooms of restruants/stores/warehouses loaded with bulk food/drinks. These cases could be looted (take one or more items out of them) or picked up and carried. My Idea would be when you pick up a crate or case you would be doing so with both arms and could only use your weapons if you drop the item. This and the above mentioned bags would be a good way to stock up either your camp or your group's base (bags being more acceptable for solo players/survivalists, cases/crates being more for people who have others covering them) Bulk Items: This would basically just cover items that 'realistically' you couldn't stuff into a pack (like tires, engine parts, main rotors but that's not my decision to make) but maybe save this more for building supplies for player bases. IE you could pick up a sheet of plywood from a pile at a mill and (maybe not run but be hindered slightly movement wise, be HIGHLY visible since your holding a 4'x8' sheet of wood on your back, and of course cant use your weapons) either take them a short distance to a (large enough vehicle) and strap it and possibly more items to the roof (gaz, hatchback, ect) inside (SUV, Van) or truck bed (the pickup, offroads, urals, ect).or the long haul to your base (defiantly not recommended) I think this would go well in hand with what rocket wants for visible items on your person/vehicle, but also they would have to make it so say you couldn't load a Ural up to the gills with stuff and have 14 guys riding in the back as well (maybe less and less space for passengers as cargo fills up but the cab will always have room for its number of passengers, maybe the sedans and such can load things into the backseat after the 'trunk' is full, losing the back for passenger use). /deepbreath /endpost

The 7 Causes of PvP ---- [VIDEO]
IkaikaKekai replied to psycorevolution's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bravo Sir. I must admit I will go out of my way to avoid killing people (mostly because I suck at PVP). Id rather just lay down in a field for 20 mins and wait for someone to pass by so I can go back to finding beans after they leave. I have killed but both times it has been self defense and usually against very unskilled/unlucky players. There are benefits to helping players, but usually only if the person actually wants to reciprocate, which I try to do a lot when I actually see someone and don't get shot. ("Theres x item in y building if you want." "Theres two cars in need of repair down the road if you want to help," ect ect) -

Isn't killing the only way to survive longer?
IkaikaKekai replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I'm a bit mixed, I'm not that great of a shot and have only managed to kill two people in my whole time play (both times in self defense, once against some jackass with an ax who ran up behind me while I barely had any gear, he go the first swing, I got the last. Second was against a bandit who I just happened to cross in front of his field of view on a broken dirtbike going 10kph, managed to kill him with a Winchester while he had an aks after a bit of a gunfight/run for cover fest). Honestly I think you can last longer by working together with others (even if you just end up killing other players). Someone watching your back or even just having the right skills can matter. I'm a good driver and a shitty shooter, I hang out with guys who can shoot but cant drive. -
I think this could work, theres already minor hints at whats going on and whats happening, the mass graves at military sites, feild hospitals and such set up in the major cities as well as what looks like checkpoints. Probably the simple way to add the 'story' would be finding and reading newspapers in towns, wont have the full story(ies) but would hint at things more with headlines and parts of the story ('Contact lost with Island Nation of Panthera.' 'NATO Forces sending in Medical Specialist to Takistan to combat deadly strain Bird Flu.' 'Berezino under quarantine after Sailor with 'Lingor Rabies' escapes from hospital.') That way people who want to find out what happened or guesses at what happened can go look for them, while others can be content with eating beans and shooting people.

Alright I did a quick (but not through) search and didn't see any posts related to this. As of right now most of the loot you get off of zombies is empty bottles and cans, cans of food and soda, flares and chemlights, and occasionally ammo. My suggestion is to add a little more loot to zombies and make things a bit more visible on them. For example a zombie might have an empty vodka bottle in its hand or sticking out of its pocket, a hiker zombie might have a larger backpack and some canned food or something and of course army and police zombies having themed ammo on them. Could even expand this so that (VERY low chance) weapons would be on certain zombies, IE a Policeman/Army Officer Zombie might still have its gun in its holster or possibly in its hand, Hunter zombie may have a hunting rifle or shotgun on a sling, an Army Zombie could have a higher end pistol or possibly a rifle on a sling still on its back. Mechanic zombies might have a toolbelt on them This could also expand to clothing or accessories (with a HIGH chance of infection if worn, with the possibility of washing/sanitizing them before wearing to get rid of that). Kill a zombie and take his ushanka and boots and maybe his warm jacket. very small chance of things like NVG being found on related zombies as well as protective gear (with body damage of course coming into effect as wanted, IE headshoting that Pilot zombie wearing NVG will destroy the NVG and his snazzy helmet)
-
Which is why I say VERY low chance of getting a weapon off a zombie, and said zombie not spawning everywhere, (military zombies at bases or the few checkpoints in large cities, police in 'large' numbers in big cities only, maybe one or two in towns, hunting zombies at dearstands which may/maynot have gear in them anyway) With what Rocket has already said about having clothes carry infection make it a very high chance of getting infected from grabbing the gear, so you'd have to not only find it but disinfect it to be able to use it safely. After all your namesake flat out refused to wear any of the Riot Zombie gear in one of the WD episodes. In this game right now its all about luck and RNGs gear wise: Spawn in Electro and you can get a good military grade gun, ammo, food, backpack, tools in 10 mins or so if the loot gods favor you.

Tell me your stupidest death stories...
IkaikaKekai replied to Matteh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This one requires a little backstory, I was approaching Electro in a skoda and was about to put pedal to metal to avoid getting shot at when in Sidechat someone was asking for morphine and blood in Electro, against my better judgement I said 'fuckit' and told him I would help out. Guy was surrounded on the north firestation roof by zombies, I pull up, start axing away and get up to him on the roof, blood him up and fix his leg. After that he asks for a ride and I take him up to the NE airfield, we get some loot then he wants to go to the northwest airfield, on the way we find a littlebird just sitting out in a field and I help him fuel it up enough to return to NEAF. All the time hes covering me from zombies and any players as I do the tedious task of fully fueling up the bird. Tank's almost full and he spots a UAZ heading toward us, "I got a shot on him..." "FUCKIT! RUN!" he got in his littlebird and i got back in my skoda and tried to go offroad, guy talked to us and was friendly, didnt even see us till we took off and he started to run. Turns out the guy I friended usually kills everyone on sight, but me being nice and blooding him up put me on the 'do not kill' list. Next day I log in and my Skoda's gone, I search around, and find a UAZ to replace it (not the same one the day before) and he logs on and said he lost his heli so I pick him up. I meet up with another friend of his and we find another UAZ which they take and we start roaming NWAF for gear and crashsites. Meanwhile in sidechat people are talking about going up to the airfield, Im ready to GTFO but they were like 'Lets ambush em' "uhh nah Im good..." I split up with them, and the ambush kinda went south when a 3rd-4th guy showed up to kill them. So of course having the only remaining car I head out to go pick em up from their spawns. I pick up one guy, and he wanted me to go back tot he ambush spot to try and get their gear, along the way in Zeleno (I can drive a friggen bus through there at speed without hittting anything at night but cant seam to avoid a small trashpile with a UAZ during the day) I get a couple flat tires, we get out and start scavenging for new tires, and after a bit we find em, I repair the UAZ and head to the coast to pick up the other guy and hit a lightpost, getting stuck on it and barely having time to say 'WTF' before the UAZ blows up killing both of us. I've only Killed 2 people in all my time playing (both times in self defense once with a hatchet against another guy with a hatchet, and once with a winchester against a (shitty) bandit with an AKS ((still shocked I managed to kill him, though I did have help in the form of a sharp eyed cousin watching me play "Dae dat fuckah, get em! En dah bush!")) ) although im probably responsible for the deaths of 5 indirectly. -
YES! Small stuff you could salvage/use, like you could smoke the cigs, the zombie might have a box of matches or lighter on him as well, cellphone could be broken down for small electronic parts for fixing other things, and I was actually thinking of adding watches to the list of lootables (their already fairly common IMO)
-
I don't mean zombies would pick up weapons and start useing em, just saying that a soldier who got infected and killed might still have his AK slung to his shoulder. Basically what they were killed with, and as I said, VERY low chance and only certain weapons (make it so you'll NEVER see a zombie with an AS50 behind it)

[Idea] Trains bring them back into gaming!
IkaikaKekai replied to de4dcert's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There are several ways Trains/rail vehicles could go (Trust me, I'm an Engineer...well Brakeman in training really...). First of all large locomotives and long trains would be very difficult, and considering the coast is single track mainline with only a few sidings there would be a lot of conflicts/collisions. If I had any choice there would be: 1 small road engine/switcher (operator) with a boxcar (lotta gear carrying) and normal/transfer caboose (passengers, some gear) (The one sitting on the docks in Cherno would be a good example of this minus the caboose) 1-2 RDCs or whatever the Post Soviet equivilant would be (think the rail bound version of a bus, LOTS of passenger room and some gear) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budd_Rail_Diesel_Car 1-2 Speeders (small track inspection vehicles, the one Im fimilar with is is basically just a picnic table on wheels with an engine, simple throttle and breaks) 3 small handcars (i know these VERY well, one man can actually get them working solo and get up a good speed, think of it as an old bike) make easy to repair, and able to derail/rerail without too much trouble so they can easily be moved out of the way of a larger train Clearing tracks would be the biggest problem IMO, since there's a lot of debris in key places and trains are actually fairly easy to derail despite what most people think. There would have to be some way to clear roadblocks and such manually unless they make the map so that the rails are clear. Also since its a single track mainline, the other rail vehicles will be a problem, you'd have to put the RDC on a siding someplace (assuming its in working order, then you'll have to fix it) OR you would have to VERY slowly push it (at least at first and only if you have something bigger/stronger than what your pushing) to where you want. Repair parts and fuel would have to be high, say 4 engine parts for the Road Engine.
