That's still not self sufficient. Their getting supplies from the outside. If they were producing their own food and had water desalination then they would be self sufficient. If a rig were to be added to Chenarus I would make it so that food rarely spawns on it (if at all) that way you don't have people just camping out on it with an AS50 and killing any boats or swimmers coming close. If you wanna hold it you gotta make supply runs.

An oil rig would be kind of a cool thing, but yeah they are far from 'self sufficient'. Also, wouldn't it need a skilled crew to keep it from pretty much blowing up? I'm sure there's all kinds of 'safety' devices installed, but recent history kinda disagrees with their reliability. That aside, let's just say the crew cared enough/had time to shut everything down properly as their coworkers became infected and started to attack them and nothing broke or blew up. Would make for a good 'endgame' thing. Let's say the rig is about a mile or two out from shore near Berezino, and that its an experimental rig that actually refines oil and gas onsite before piping it to the docks at Berezino. A group would take a boat out to the rig, clear it of zombies (make some mechanic where they never respawn but theres a LOT of them) After clearing they can switch everything back on and it'll start pumping oil and gas back to shore, refilling the gas containers on the docks. Things would shut down occasionally so players would have to go back out to do repairs occasionally. The real control would be of the docks and the gas tanks however. Let's say gas doesn't respawn in any other gas tanks, but can be refiled with a tanker truck (or more slowly with jerry cans). A group would have to find and hold the tanker truck, the oil rig, and the storage tanks in order to control the flow of gas on the server (or alternately they could just load up a car with as many jerry cans as they can. Group of Heroes or survivors might make deliveries to fuel tanks throughout the map and allow survivors to take as much gas as they need or trade for it, bandits would keep it for themselves,

this game needs tea and other hot drinks eating and drinking slowly
IkaikaKekai replied to Tumoa's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's the little things in life, for some its a turned over truck of twinkies. For some its a cup of tea. For others its seeing a .50 BMG cave in some poor bastard's skull and turn it into a fine powder/mist. Would be nice if they added in 'comfort' items. As for a mechanic as to why they'd be necessary, I can't think of any that would fit with the whole feel of DayZ (or at least my understanding of what rocket wants for DayZ). -
There's no real way to 'recover' a CD key once it's been stolen. You still have the CD key, just now you and some scripter has the key, and he's probably selling it to someone else who will get that key banned. Backup important files, wipe your computer, re install your programs, and don't install shady stuff. If you don't get rid of the key stealer you'll just be losing another key within a few days. And honestly you'd want to get rid of that thing anyway, no telling what else is attached to it. Fucker probably could have all your credit card info already.

Was probably a scriptkiddy if you're sure you shot him. That or a REALLY good/lucky bastard. Probably had godmode and/or esp to find you and your friends, then teleported about when you saw him (thus 'disappearing')

New Devblog announce release date of standalone Yes/no
IkaikaKekai replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That would be a pretty good birthday present for me then. But whenever it comes out it comes out. -
No, the Key stealer is IN your computer. You have to get rid of the keystealer or the next key's just gonna get stolen.

New Devblog announce release date of standalone Yes/no
IkaikaKekai replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, Rocket pretty much said in the announcement of the release date for the Dev Log that: 'THIS IS NOT AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE RELEASE DATE!' twice. Actually probably three times. -

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, maybe with a chance to 'slip' or lose your gripping and fall off? -
Why does crap like this exist?
IkaikaKekai replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I believe 'American' is a failed attempt at a written language by Ben Franklin. From my understanding its English, just spelled phonetically IE America = 'Mer'e'kah (I think). Flat Earth Society. They're either VERY committed Trolls or stupid. -
Do a full virus/malware scan to start off with. If you remember what the 'fps booster' was called, try looking for that to delete it. Although to be honest probably your best bet is to restore your PC to before the booster was installed.

idea for listen what is happen in the house
IkaikaKekai replied to wild_man's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That's a loud enough noise for you to hear without a stethoscope. This is just a bad idea. Probably the only thing you could tell by pressing a stethoscope to a wall is if there's termites or not (and even then you need to know what termites sound like). -
idea for listen what is happen in the house
IkaikaKekai replied to wild_man's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Pretty sure that wouldn't work. And what exactly would you expect to hear from a guy that's standing still in a room and aiming a gun at a door? Him talking to himself, his heartbeat? -
Epic loot would be a Stillsuit rather than NVG or Antibiotics. Also were there going to be any zombies on this map?

Dunno if AFK avis 'twitch' after a while, but I would say that was someone afk, especially since the bot didn't react to you at all, probably should have checked it's bag or something. It is possible to place in AIs, but it's not something that's 'in' the game. IE you can't just start up a server and have AI survivors running around, you need to actually put them in (dunno how exactly to do that but I think the mission editor or whatever)

Kicked from servers that my friend is playing on
IkaikaKekai replied to xSwifta's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
That combined with not being able to be on at the same time leads me to think that you are using the same CD-key somehow, either he 'borrowed' yours and he's not being truthful to you or your sharing one not being truthful with us, or some weird ass complication I can barely comprehend. But I digress and don't want to be pointing fingers. I know it just says 'you've been kicked' when you/your friend gets kicked, but is there any message on the server side? IE 'Dave has been Kicked BE Restriction #1234'? If it does try googling that number to see what it means. Try logging on to two different public servers (same hive) and see if one or the other still gets kicked, or if you spawn in the exact same spot. -
To my knowledge there are no AI in Vanilla DayZ. Some of the mods do have AI and some private hives add in AI as well. Depending on the server you were on it could have been a hacker, or possibly a combat logger (the sniper that 'disappeared') who logged back in at the right time. I wouldn't think AI would despawn and respawn but I don't know the mechanics. The camp you passed by could have been a 'Survivor camp' which is randomly created by the server (think heli crash but tents). It could have also been someone really good or a squad of people.

Kicked from servers that my friend is playing on
IkaikaKekai replied to xSwifta's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Would need more information, if you guys are using the same CD-key (pretty sure that's a no no) that might be it. If you're playing from the same IP it might be something to do with that. Skype shouldn't affect it (at least I don't think so). Does it let him join if you're on first? If so just join before he does, if he gets kicked when he tries to join you (or you get kicked when he joins) ask him what the kick message says and copy it down. -
Because side is mostly used for drama, that and say your in the middle of nowhere and all of a sudden you hear someone yell, "Friendly, Friendly, Dude friendly, dude Im in the firehouse I'm friendly Dude don't shoot FUCK MAN STOP SHOOTING" Player has died "YOU (long string of F words, one of which is prohibited on these forums)" Voip also causes a little bit of lag (or at least that's one of the excuses used, don't know for sure). And if you really want to know the reason, ask the admins of that server. Just don't sound uppity about it ('y u gais ban sidechat? dat so gay!'), or press the issue, likely to get a kick.

Ah, wasn't sure if it was Alpha or Beta. What did the download button say before? I can't remember now.
-
Was wondering that myself. I probably didn't notice it for a couple of days. Clicked on it just to be sure. Might just be a mistake or something, or gearing up for the release, after all I thought the Mod itself was in 'beta'.

答案是, 答案是正確的.

As said above its an M9 and already in the game.

Toilet Water / Nausea induced attack
IkaikaKekai replied to liquidcactus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ya know, a thought occurred to me in the shower just now. We talk about people contaminating lakes and sources of water to prevent/hinder people who drink there, but it really goes beyond that. Lets just say for a moment that the 'contamination' mechanic will work like this. 1) Player with cholera takes a shit in a pond 2) Pond becomes contaminated for a week or so. 3) (after a day) Anyone who drinks from the pond without boiling or purifying it will have a 90% chance to get cholera (as opposed to say a 1% chance were it not contaminated). 4) (after a day) Anyone who swims/wades in the pond has a 70% chance to get cholera, 90% if they have and open wound (or were recently bandaged) 5) (after say 3 days) A percentage of zombies that spawn near the water source would be infected with cholera (with a 10% chance of infecting a player they attack) This would actually make a lot of sense as a model. One player can be responsible for an outbreak on a server. Guy contracts Cholera somehow, takes a shit in Topolka dam, zombies down in Electro become infected after a few days and infect anyone unlucky enough to be attacked by an infected zombie, cycle repeats.
