Depends on the boat and the anchor lines really.

Would love to see a Single Player SA. However I would like to see a little bit more story in SP than in MP. Also something like a boot camp series of missions like in Arma 2. Set just before the outbreak you play the role of different civilians doing 'normal' things. IE A hiker hiking in the woods learning how to set up a camp, collect firewood, and cook. Playing as a hunter's child who's father teaches you how to track, kill, and gut animals. So on and so fourth (learning how to repair and drive vehicles as a mechanic, medical training while a nurse, flight training from either military/coastguard or private airline, gun training while a soldier, ect) but all training ends with the player getting overrun and killed by zombies somehow. Of course there will be a few training 'missions' that take place after Z Day for when other things are added in (how to build bases, 'mad max' cars, ect)

A few suggestions for the mod - for once.
IkaikaKekai replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think he might have posted in the wrong topic as there was one about being able to shoot from ladders. (to be off topic, a Pistol I could see being able to use on a ladder with a heavy accuracy penalty, anything larger, just...no) -
Not to defend him, since it's more than a bit suspicious that it's word for word, but nihil novi sub sole. I would say about 90% of the unique suggestions (and by that I mean the idea, IE I would only count adding Trains as one suggestion, even though there's probably around 20 topics on the subject) on this forum, or Reddit for that matter, are nothing truly new. I would point to the episode of Southpark where this one kid just kept screaming 'SIMPSONS DID IT!' every time another kid wanted to do something.

He's still right though. While its debatable if the zombies/infected are actually rotting, the way the mechanic works currently in the mod is you only get an infection from being attacked by zombies, from uncooked meat or unboiled water, from being too cold (although from my experience that rarely happens in Chenarus, its gotta be night, raining, and you've been swimming for an hour before you get a cold), or from blood bags. I've never had it happen but I think it might be possible to get an infection from another player from proximity. This would be the only way a mask would protect you from infection currently. Now if we had a chance of catching an infection just from being in proximity of zombies (I can hear the blood curdling cries of 'nerf' already) or from the open mass graves and heaps of dead bodies that now populate the map it might be viable. I expect this to be in Standalone at some point. -
Shooting while stationary on a ladder
IkaikaKekai replied to Sutinen's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well its not like were getting a final release and nothing else will EVER be added to the game once it's released. Kinda doubt it'll happen either but not just because they're busy with the 'network bubble' (Edit: Thank you Orlok bellow for putting voice to the reason that was on the tip of my tongue). After all, they have many people working on DayZ, and while I'm sure they have everyone who knows what they're doing working on the network bubble, that's not going to be everyone. They've still got guys working on the map, working on buildings, working on loot, new clothes, new guns. Its kinda like when Rocket went to Everest, just because he's gone doesn't mean all work is at full stop. If this was true we probably wouldn't have bayonets or the recently released pics of the K98 rifle. -
Shooting while stationary on a ladder
IkaikaKekai replied to Sutinen's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well it's possible, but its still based on the Arma2 Engine (think it's been called Arma 2.5, so unless you can run around in cars in Arma3 kinda doubt that we'll be able to without some MAJOR work on the dev's part) -
Don't really think smart phones are a good idea for Day, mostly because of the setting, and the fact pretty much all electronic infrastructure is in operable. No cell phone towers, no cell phones. Chenarus doesn't really strike me as the type of country to have a lot of smart phones in it, even if it had 'non smart' cell phones there's still no electricity to charge them with (and its not like you can just plug in a couple of D cells to a Smartphone or a Nokia) or to power the cell towers (if there were any). A satellite phone might still be working after an zombie apocalypse, but you still have the problem of charging the phone, while I know shit about satellite phones I kinda doubt that Apple and Google make a model.

Would love to see more different types of maps. Bus route maps are fairly simple ones, but better than nothing. Find road maps at gas stations or in towns, which would show the roads and a few 'tourist' sites. And the 'best' maps would be Military maps, like the ones we have in the mod right now.

A few suggestions for the mod - for once.
IkaikaKekai replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Statik does have a point, would be a very good suggestion for standalone however since there will be multiple diseases we can get, or even transfer from infected clothing. Make it more prudent for medics/docs to wear a facemask and gloves when helping out someone injured. -
Survivor Zombies NOT DEAD ONES
IkaikaKekai replied to CommanderX (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No, they're more like the infected from 28 Days Later. Still human, still alive (to the point where they'll starve to death if they don't find anything to kill/eat ((28 Weeks Later)) ), just VERY angry and murderous. -
Shooting while stationary on a ladder
IkaikaKekai replied to Sutinen's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Actually, from my understanding, its a limitation with DayZ's engine that prevents us from simply running around inside of a car, or in the cargo hold of a large plane, or even getting up and walking around the inside of a bus. -
Standalone suggestion with duct tape
IkaikaKekai replied to rooniedoo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Aye. The movie/tv single strip of ducktape to gag a person is a crock of shit. Usually requires multiple layers and/or stuffing (like a sock) to actually silence someone. -
If they ever made a Single Player/story version of Standalone (not talking about a mod) I would be for a Co-op mode. Highly doubt that's going to happen (at least for a LONG while) so...nope (at least in the way everyone ((including myself)) is interpreting what you want in 'co-op' mode).
-
Never. Doubt. Ducktape. NEVER. *Edit* You'd be surprised actually. The cars in Chenarus aren't the fiberglass and aluminum tin cans we drive now. While yeah pounding out a dent in a car that wrapped around a tree going 70 MPH won't 'fix it' you can still salvage parts from the car itself or do HEAVY repairs. And perhaps that'd be the point. Sure the Arma system deals with 'wrecked' cars by blowing them up, but lets say Rocket finds a way to merge the tech in this game with Standalone for vehicles. It would probably take a bit of work but the payout could be very rewarding. Lets say someone drives his car into a tree, for all intents and purposes destroying the front end and the engine (and a mechanic in game marks the vehicle as 'unrepairable' and marks it for despawn after 2 restarts and makes the vehicle respawn after a 3rd in its spawn location), and dies in the accident. Another player comes along and finds the wreck, grabs what he can from the dead driver's equipment and goes off. Another driver finds the remains of the car and strips off a part that's still in 'workable' condition (doors, tires, fuel tank, ect) and mounts it in a compatible vehicle. Comes back a day later and peels off every part he can that's not 'destroyed' then takes them to a garage/workshop/player base to do 'heavy' repairs.

Funny how history/topics repeats itself.

Survivor Zombies NOT DEAD ONES
IkaikaKekai replied to CommanderX (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
First of all, have you heard of the 'edit' button? Second of all No. While there's been very little background given on the 'zombies', its been confirmed that it was a virus of some sort, and that all Survivors (players) are immune to it. It's been stated many times that the 'zombies' are not actually dead, just rabid. A rabid human/animal isn't going to stop once your infected and be on its way, its going to keep attacking you until it's forced to stop (usually with death) or you're dead, and probably won't stop for a while after you're dead. Player Zombies have been pretty much confirmed as a no by Rocket, for a number of reasons. Players would use it to grief. It would be something players would exploit, and really how can you control how a player plays? The 2nd part of that is 'oh well what if we just have the player corpses become zombies', first part of that is that the zombies in this game are not the undead, once you die you die, which is why 2 shots to the chest with a rifle round will kill a zombie, instead of headshots only. Second, player's models are different from zombies (edit: at least in Standalone they will be). Zombies for simplicity are models that may have very minor variations to break up the monotony (not 50 Jammie Heinemen Zombies barreling down on you). Players on the other hand are much more detailed, we will have our own clothing and equipment layers (since we will have custom clothing). If we were to be zombied when we 'die' we'd lose any gear we were wearing and be reset to a default zombie skin and break immersion for a lot of people. TL;DR? BECAUSE ROCKET SAID NO! -
Would still be the same problem of people camping on them if there's just an 'infinite' supply of food and drinks.
-
Not sure if its a demo, just a free version of Arma2 (very low def graphics, lot of stuff missing, so on) but yes, you can get Arma2 free and buy Op Arrowhead. The graphics will just be shitty from my understanding.

To be honest, I don't see how gold and silver is valuable anymore, other than the 'value' we assign to it. All the hype about buying gold and silver 'in case tha gub'ment collapses'. I can't eat gold or silver. Can't drink it. Might be able to bash someone's head in with a gold bar or a silver candlestick and take their food and water. Might be able to melt it down into bullets, but lead would be easier to melt down and more common (can walk into a fishing store and get 50 pounds of lead fishing weights without so much as a sideways glance). Honestly cash would be more valuable than gold or silver in a survival situation. If a vending machine is still working I can put a dollar in and get a water without having to break into it. I can use it as tinder to help start a fire. As a makeshift bandage (US 'paper' money is more cloth like) The only reason why it's still of any value anymore IMO is because stupid people like shiny things. Well that and electronics, which by extension is a 'shiny thing'. The only reason why 'bottle caps' work as currency in a game like fallout is because there's an economy (and the very idea of an economy) and traders (NPCs) who will actually trade you goods for bottle caps. As many have said above, the only currency that will more than likely take place will be 'natural' currency that the players decide on, food, drinks, bullets, meds and the like, nothing that the Devs put in. I wouldn't mind if they added in money as an item in game but it would be pretty much a 'junk' item like empty tin cans, sure it would have it's uses, but not as currency, unless a vast majority of players decide to start using money as the currency in DayZ.

I don't like most racing/car games (Aside from the GTA series) but this has gotten me drooling. No more exploding Offroads for hitting a low lying moss covered rock wall hidden by grass and killing the guy you just picked up who went afk...Im still VERY sorry about that if your reading this.

Standalone suggestion with duct tape
IkaikaKekai replied to rooniedoo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Someone had some horrible, horrible lag. But duck tape is going to be in the game already, so just adding another use wouldn't hurt (and be in the spirit of duck tape). Maybe use that if you don't have handcuffs to bind the hands. I would say Direct text chat should be scrambled and limited (say range of 5 meters instead of whatever it is now (guessing something like 50?) and voice direct would be completely muted. (no real good way to 'scramble' voice chat IMO) Not sure if 'radio chat' would be disabled if you were cuffed/tied but it would make sense (can't key your mic after all, unless you have it set to constant transmit) -
Ah, I see now, not just a blink from seat to seat but an actual animation/sequence/movement whatever you want to call it. Should be possible as far as i know Quick, someone buy the team a Skoda for their Mocap studio! I also like the idea of being able to duck or lean that was mentioned above, not sure but I think I actually did lean inside a car by pressing q and e in either DayZ, ToH, or the Arma2 Armory, can't remember which, but yeah a duck and lean would be very good to provide at least a little bit of cover in a firefight or under sniper attack (I would limit it so that if your ducking your forced to first person or something so you don't have guys just using third person to avoid getting shot and drive like a pro). I've mentioned this several times in related posts but I would like to see it so that we could mount (almost) any gun on a vehicle (not something like a pistol or anything silly like that) providing you actually have the gun. Yeah i'd be more worth it to mount an actual MG on a vehicle, but duck tapping an AKM to a broomstick and sticking it out the newly created 'sunroof' of your van should do in a pinch.

I believe 1 (I think the popular term is Mad Maxing) is going to be in when vehicles are readded to the game, 2 I think is something they might want to do but haven't heard anything about. (they will be absent in the Alpha release from my understanding). Number 3, assuming you mean like walking around in the back of a Ural or van, or even running around the cargo bay of a c130 is as far as I know is not possible with the engine (it would turn the car into a blender with you as the goldfish in a sense). If you mean just jumping from seat to seat it's something we can do already in the mod.

DayZ Standalone is the game that has not yet been released, it will be its own game, meaning you won't need any other game to play it (thus, Standalone, I'm sure they're gonna come up with a better name later on). DayZ Mod is what we currently have, and requires Arma2:CO to play. The two games will not be connected to each other (meaning if you were playing DayZ Mod you would not be playing with people playing DayZ Standalone). Hope that clears it up for you.
