Base Building - Do's and Don'ts (DayZ Standalone)
IkaikaKekai replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hate to double post but this gave me some more ideas and don't think its small enough for just a simple edit. Say if enough people claim buildings in an area, they area itself could be turned into a base. For example, the farm compound near Zelenogorsk (Grid Square 10, 01) One player claims The house, and another pair of players claim the stables/sheds. They could set up a perimeter fence, build a gate along the road, possibly dig a well or some other 'group project' or series of projects. -
Base Building - Do's and Don'ts (DayZ Standalone)
IkaikaKekai replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would love if we could do this. I think it should be limited to the server you are on however, not the entire hive. And you would be only allowed to 'claim' one house/building, but someone could come and 'claim' your house (things would have to be done, like breaking and changing all the locks, possibly have to hunt down and kill you, and also not have a house claimed themselves). Claiming a house would prevent any new items from spawning inside it (but won't make any items that have already spawned/dropped disappear), as well as prevent zombies from spawning inside or nearby (if you claim one townhouse in a row of 20 or so, you'll still be surrounded by zombies, but they won't spawn directly in your house or yard). Certain buildings could not be claimed (Hospitals, barracks, stores, ect) I would say residential only or maybe an apartment building (you could only claim one floor/room of the apartment, so they would be better for groups) I would like to see it where you can fix up the house a bit better, board up the windows, board up a door, reinforce a door and put a lock on it, bring in furniture, clean the inside of the house (disinfect areas, clean up blood, ect) Use the building as storage (using furniture in the building or bringing in furniture for storage) able to use the fireplace or wood burning stoves to cook and purify water. Set up areas as well, if it has a garage attached or close by you can park a vehicle (that fits) in it and lock the doors, do better repairs in the garage, set up a area as a clinic (heroes and medics can bring people there to treat major wounds) Set up an area for you to fix and clean your weapons better, maybe an ammo bench. This would all be things you would have to find/scavenge and bring back. As for building materials I think they should have to be gathered, and since we can't punch down trees, we would have to raid the lumber yards and mills that dot some spots of the map. I believe major building materials should be over sized, IE you cant just pick up a stack of plywood and put it in your jeans pocket, you have to pick up a sheet of plywood and carry it to a vehicle or to your base. Know thous washing machines we see all over the place? Pick one up and load it in the back of the GAZ, fix it up with some scrap metal, hook it up to your generator and you can wash clothing (kinda seems a bit overkill but considering clothing can be infected it might make a cool little feature. "Oh yes, I have a treaty with the bandits nearby, they won't kill me as long as I do their laundry for them.) Same would go for any other large appliances/furniture, you would need a hand truck (I believe some of you call them a 'trolley') or a friend to pick them up ("Dude, I found a gun safe in the Balota train station, I need your help to get it into my truck.") This would promote player interaction in my opinion, (Both good and bad, I can see bandits 'enslaving' players to get building supplies for them) -
To be honest, I would keep the SP missions very simple (aside from the tutorials) Would just be you, alone (maybe a co-op/lan mode), and the zombies. I would have the vehicles in different spawn locations than in multiplayer, you would spawn at the far end of the map, and have to get to the other end of the map, surviving along the way. Story would be something like you got a radio broadcast saying there was a ship in Berezino with survivors on it and would be leaving in 3 days. Of course when you get there the ship is either gone or over run with zombies, so you could either ignore it completely and just see how long you can survive, you could clear the zombies from the ship and repair it so you can use it yourself (and 'end' the game), how many zombies you can kill, if you can clear a city, if you can clear the entire map, Last person on earth kinda thing. (Zombies would not respawn and neither would gear but both would be in large amounts, larger than in multiplayer, animals would however)

Gruesome Dead Bodies and Crows

Has been suggested before but still a fairly good idea. Probably the only problem would be the need to get past the censors of different countries. -
The types of players in dayz (survey will post results)

Subway system/sewers/utility tunnels in Cherno/Electro. Or hell just more underground/basements. Someone linked in another post a goldmine they added in on their server. I would agree that we've got enough military stuff on the map. We would just need a means of justifying why to build whatever underground. That large estate could have been a preper who stockpiled a lot of civilian weapons, ammo, food, and supplies, but was overrun with zombies. The sewer system could be a way to get around Electro/Cherno without being on the surface (and exposed to sniper fire) with multiple outlet pipes at the edge of the city (and very little zombies inside, but tight quarters so it would be more dangerous) and manhole covers throughout. Easy to get lost but once you know your way around it might be the better option. Perhaps add on some underground components to the military bases already there (tunnels under NWAF leading from the barracks to the hangers, with some underground fuel bunkers that players can refuel from (since gas is going to be a finite supply))

Right now from the information we have, we can combine the current maps into one big map (NW Corner + NE Corner = Northern Map, SW + SE= Southern Map, South + North= large map). Perhaps the same thing could be done with all these small 'specialist' maps. Rather than SW Train + SE Train = South Train, more like Train map + Map = more detailed map, IE adding the train map would show stations and heavy industry zones along the route. Bus route would add heavy urban centers (apartment locations and like) A tourist map you pick up at a gas station would add gas station locations, 'hotels', garages, restaurants and stores to your big map. A hiking map/guide might show approx animal locations (kinda like Red Dead Redemption's map decor did) and (non player) campsites and trails. Could also be a way to add 'quests' to the game. Kill a zombie and pick up a handmade map he had, shows the location of a stash he had before he was infected. (sort of like the treasure hunting maps in RDR)
-
Well I was thinking they would be inter connected somehow, but not quite like that. IE the Helicopter would be Search and Rescue, you might see it flyover in the hunting tutorial (say right when the hunter's about to take a shot, and scares the deer/pig away), and if you keep an eye out you'll see the hunter's camp in the flight tutorial, pick up a wounded hiker who was attacked in the woods, fly him to Berezino Hospital and drop off, then land back at Balota where a horde overtakes the airfield. The Nurse/doctor would just be doing normal rounds in the hospital, bandaging wounds, blood transfusions, ect, till the Helicopter drops off the wounded hiker who would start attacking after you tend his wounds.
-
Thank you. I like the idea about the hunter teaching all/most actually. Setting up the camp, collecting firewood, actually hunting and skinning, cooking, getting water. Have it end with the driving and repair lessons before being overrun by zombies. Wouldn't be able to learn 'everything' from the hunter but could learn the majority. Would still probably need the nurse/doctor training as well as actual pilot training (all separate of course)

Depends on the boat and the anchor lines really.

Would love to see a Single Player SA. However I would like to see a little bit more story in SP than in MP. Also something like a boot camp series of missions like in Arma 2. Set just before the outbreak you play the role of different civilians doing 'normal' things. IE A hiker hiking in the woods learning how to set up a camp, collect firewood, and cook. Playing as a hunter's child who's father teaches you how to track, kill, and gut animals. So on and so fourth (learning how to repair and drive vehicles as a mechanic, medical training while a nurse, flight training from either military/coastguard or private airline, gun training while a soldier, ect) but all training ends with the player getting overrun and killed by zombies somehow. Of course there will be a few training 'missions' that take place after Z Day for when other things are added in (how to build bases, 'mad max' cars, ect)

A few suggestions for the mod - for once.
IkaikaKekai replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think he might have posted in the wrong topic as there was one about being able to shoot from ladders. (to be off topic, a Pistol I could see being able to use on a ladder with a heavy accuracy penalty, anything larger, just...no) -
Not to defend him, since it's more than a bit suspicious that it's word for word, but nihil novi sub sole. I would say about 90% of the unique suggestions (and by that I mean the idea, IE I would only count adding Trains as one suggestion, even though there's probably around 20 topics on the subject) on this forum, or Reddit for that matter, are nothing truly new. I would point to the episode of Southpark where this one kid just kept screaming 'SIMPSONS DID IT!' every time another kid wanted to do something.

IkaikaKekai replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
He's still right though. While its debatable if the zombies/infected are actually rotting, the way the mechanic works currently in the mod is you only get an infection from being attacked by zombies, from uncooked meat or unboiled water, from being too cold (although from my experience that rarely happens in Chenarus, its gotta be night, raining, and you've been swimming for an hour before you get a cold), or from blood bags. I've never had it happen but I think it might be possible to get an infection from another player from proximity. This would be the only way a mask would protect you from infection currently. Now if we had a chance of catching an infection just from being in proximity of zombies (I can hear the blood curdling cries of 'nerf' already) or from the open mass graves and heaps of dead bodies that now populate the map it might be viable. I expect this to be in Standalone at some point. -
Shooting while stationary on a ladder
IkaikaKekai replied to Sutinen's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well its not like were getting a final release and nothing else will EVER be added to the game once it's released. Kinda doubt it'll happen either but not just because they're busy with the 'network bubble' (Edit: Thank you Orlok bellow for putting voice to the reason that was on the tip of my tongue). After all, they have many people working on DayZ, and while I'm sure they have everyone who knows what they're doing working on the network bubble, that's not going to be everyone. They've still got guys working on the map, working on buildings, working on loot, new clothes, new guns. Its kinda like when Rocket went to Everest, just because he's gone doesn't mean all work is at full stop. If this was true we probably wouldn't have bayonets or the recently released pics of the K98 rifle. -
Shooting while stationary on a ladder
IkaikaKekai replied to Sutinen's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well it's possible, but its still based on the Arma2 Engine (think it's been called Arma 2.5, so unless you can run around in cars in Arma3 kinda doubt that we'll be able to without some MAJOR work on the dev's part) -
Don't really think smart phones are a good idea for Day, mostly because of the setting, and the fact pretty much all electronic infrastructure is in operable. No cell phone towers, no cell phones. Chenarus doesn't really strike me as the type of country to have a lot of smart phones in it, even if it had 'non smart' cell phones there's still no electricity to charge them with (and its not like you can just plug in a couple of D cells to a Smartphone or a Nokia) or to power the cell towers (if there were any). A satellite phone might still be working after an zombie apocalypse, but you still have the problem of charging the phone, while I know shit about satellite phones I kinda doubt that Apple and Google make a model.

Would love to see more different types of maps. Bus route maps are fairly simple ones, but better than nothing. Find road maps at gas stations or in towns, which would show the roads and a few 'tourist' sites. And the 'best' maps would be Military maps, like the ones we have in the mod right now.

A few suggestions for the mod - for once.
IkaikaKekai replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Statik does have a point, would be a very good suggestion for standalone however since there will be multiple diseases we can get, or even transfer from infected clothing. Make it more prudent for medics/docs to wear a facemask and gloves when helping out someone injured. -
Survivor Zombies NOT DEAD ONES
IkaikaKekai replied to CommanderX (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No, they're more like the infected from 28 Days Later. Still human, still alive (to the point where they'll starve to death if they don't find anything to kill/eat ((28 Weeks Later)) ), just VERY angry and murderous. -
Shooting while stationary on a ladder
IkaikaKekai replied to Sutinen's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Actually, from my understanding, its a limitation with DayZ's engine that prevents us from simply running around inside of a car, or in the cargo hold of a large plane, or even getting up and walking around the inside of a bus. -
Standalone suggestion with duct tape
IkaikaKekai replied to rooniedoo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Aye. The movie/tv single strip of ducktape to gag a person is a crock of shit. Usually requires multiple layers and/or stuffing (like a sock) to actually silence someone. -
If they ever made a Single Player/story version of Standalone (not talking about a mod) I would be for a Co-op mode. Highly doubt that's going to happen (at least for a LONG while) so...nope (at least in the way everyone ((including myself)) is interpreting what you want in 'co-op' mode).
-
Never. Doubt. Ducktape. NEVER. *Edit* You'd be surprised actually. The cars in Chenarus aren't the fiberglass and aluminum tin cans we drive now. While yeah pounding out a dent in a car that wrapped around a tree going 70 MPH won't 'fix it' you can still salvage parts from the car itself or do HEAVY repairs. And perhaps that'd be the point. Sure the Arma system deals with 'wrecked' cars by blowing them up, but lets say Rocket finds a way to merge the tech in this game with Standalone for vehicles. It would probably take a bit of work but the payout could be very rewarding. Lets say someone drives his car into a tree, for all intents and purposes destroying the front end and the engine (and a mechanic in game marks the vehicle as 'unrepairable' and marks it for despawn after 2 restarts and makes the vehicle respawn after a 3rd in its spawn location), and dies in the accident. Another player comes along and finds the wreck, grabs what he can from the dead driver's equipment and goes off. Another driver finds the remains of the car and strips off a part that's still in 'workable' condition (doors, tires, fuel tank, ect) and mounts it in a compatible vehicle. Comes back a day later and peels off every part he can that's not 'destroyed' then takes them to a garage/workshop/player base to do 'heavy' repairs.

Funny how history/topics repeats itself.
