Yeah I'd go with the non steam version while it's on sale. Shouldn't matter if it's on steam or not (you can add it to your steam library anyway if you did use it) If your into combat sims you might want to get the Complete Collection while it's on sale to snag all the DLC (I've yet to really sit down and play Arma2 and OA by itself and have been told I should).

You need both Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead (also known together as Combined Ops) to play DayZ, AFAIK Private Military Contractor (PMC) and British Armed Forces (BAF) add in more high rez textures for certain models (some guns, player models, some vehicles, ect) but are not needed to play (or enjoy) DayZ. Just did a quick look at steam and can see the confusion, Combined Ops is the Bundle of Arma2 and Op Arrowhead, and sells for about $25. Complete collection includes Arma and all DLC for around $40. So that's probably your confusion. I'd honestly wait a bit, Current guess is that Standalone will be out in a week or two if the Bug Smashing gods smile upon the Devs, that and they have Arma2 on sale almost every other week on steam (you pretty much JUST missed one such sale).

It's location based from what I tell. He said the bat was worn so it wouldn't do as much damage as a good condition bat. That and he was hitting something that feels little to no pain with his fists. He also misses a lot. I find it realistic. EDIT and its a friggen blunt object, not a [spiked Mace of +5 Doom] or a sword or ax or sharp object, which would bypass the protection of the muscle and bones to damage internal organs/vitals.

Actually that's how you're suppose to do it. This guy on the other hand should have just stayed in the reinforced steel cab, since there's a very good chance the train with the camera pushed the other train onto him. Also someone didn't obey signals. -

Actually sounds like a cool 'feature', like zombies will fight over prey in certain situations. As long as it's not something like once they start fighting each other they completely ignore us till the one zombie's dead. IE I run into a house with a narrow hallway, zombie A catches up with me and smacks me, Zombie B is blocked by A, smacks him, A turns around and fights B, I keep running, Zombie A dies, Zombie B's bleeding, and I got away. More like B hit's A, A is bleeding but keeps chasing me, B keeps hitting A till the way's no longer blocked (A's dead or out of the way), A's at say 50% health but B's still chasing me at 'full health'. -
When I play the game, I do care, at least when other players are around. I may not panic when I hear gunshots off in the distance, but I definitely go into an 'Oh Crap!' mode. When I hear the 'pinging' of shots hitting near me I go into an 'OH Shit' mode. When I see other players my heart starts beating faster and I feel nervous and on edge. Will they see me? Will they kill me? If they're a bandit, can I get a clean shot off? Do they have buddies waiting right there? Honestly it's kinda a thrill, even though I avoid other players as much as I can.

HCC actually, but it's the same for all UH campuses. I'd also much rather have a pair of finned gloves than fins, I'm a bit more agile that way, but more the merrier. Than again I'm not going in that water...it's friggen cold. -

From my understanding there won't be a Scenario Editor/Map builder (at least not at first) for security/antihack purposes. The team wants to make more maps, but that's WAY off into the future (we're after the FULL release, not Alpha). -

I agree, day/night should be at a RL ratio as it was when the mod first started, and it should be based where the server is based, or possibly have a few 'reversed' servers. Say theres 10 West Coast (USA) Servers, 5 would be normal (6AM = 6AM), and 5 would be reversed (6PM=6AM). That way for the people who say can only play late at night won't be limited to either a further away and laggy server or never seeing the light of day in game. And of course it lets the 'omg night too dark' crowd to server hop. (As far as I know there won't be any private hive servers, at least at the start, only public hive servers)

I never did play the Arma2 story, but it's been summed up enough times to explain why there's US/NATO equipment in a Former Soviet Backwater. Basically there was a war there that involved the US/NATO and Russian forces. Think Chenarus was moving to be more 'pro west', Russia didn't like that and moved in, the US didn't like that and moved in too, minor civil war ensues with US and Russia backing their respective sides. The US leaves behind a lot of equipment when they 'end' a war rather than ship it back, sometimes they sell it to the locals (government or civilians, usually deMIling it depending on the type of equipment and the buyer), and that's not assuming for blackmarkets or just lost/looted/abandoned equipment. The same would make sense for Russian forces, not to mention being a former Soviet country they were probably 'issued' (read dumped) to Chenarus or even just stored in warehouses. -
I'd have to agree with Enforcer, a lot of risk/work for very little reward. Not to mention that it's not that realistic. A factory is for mass production, something we won't really need post Z Day (except maybe bullets). We can get away with small scale production for the most part. Unless you just slaughtered an entire herd of cattle you won't need a factory to preserve all that food, and even then there's a lot of human prepwork required as well. You don't just toss a cow carcass in one end and get steaks out the other. The simpler means of production would be a small workshop (which is probably what one of the points of base building will be in standalone) as opposed to restarting an entire factory. To be honest, a factory would be best for what your base point was, a cool place to have a firefight and collect resources/loot.
