Zombie attack eventaully leading to becoming a zombie?
IkaikaKekai replied to SirGaryColeman's topic in Suggestions
Won't happen either. Technical reason: Players are much more complex than zombies texture wise, so every noob that suicides on the coast would overload the server with player zombies. Lore Reason: Zombies aren't dead/undead, players are immune to the virus. -
Don't really think it's a 'hate' of western guns, it just makes more sense for there to more Russian made guns in a post Soviet country. And honestly there's not much indication of a recent war in the country in Chenarus+ even though there is a bit of a buildup of military forces (Balota and Zelenogorsk's Armored base).

Just bought and finished downloading! ...keeps crashing...
IkaikaKekai replied to syvmn's topic in Troubleshooting
For starters try verifying the game cache in Steam. While you wait for that hopefully others more knowledgeable than I can help you. -
So is this game just about Griefing?
IkaikaKekai replied to madhojo's topic in New Player Discussion
It is what the players make it, and sadly at the moment it is a Grief fest, at least in the 'popular areas'. Maybe later as things other than PVP are added and the KOSers get bored and move on we'll have a more civil game. Till then probably best you don't buy it. Also being a bandit isn't discouraged or encouraged. It's against the server rules because Dean (the guy who made/is making the game doesn't want to punish/reward one play style over another. -
When you buy the Supporter Edition you get the Steam Codes for the games (DayZ and Arma Complete (I think thats the one), so you'll need Steam anyway.

How to fix KoS and banditry with this great system
IkaikaKekai replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
Was going to say, the only way to 'fix' KOS is for Dean to go into the code and turn OFF PVP (everyone on one team, Friendly Fire:off) -
Gear up? You do know this isn't WOW where you get your gear back after you die right? There'll be many character resets (both on purpose and bugs) between now and beta. Rules 1-4 of DayZ: Don't get attached to your gear.
-
Actually sounds like a pretty good idea. Not really as a means of stopping KOS but just a good idea generally (Not the spawn 20 zombies around a dead player thing). Gun fire alone will probably attract zombies, but if they 'smelled' blood in the air and went to investigate (not a full out mad dash for fresh food) that would be something.

Player Zombies will NEVER happen, not in any form. As already said above the zombies are infected living people, not the undead. In this game dead is dead, which is why a couple shots to the chest'll kill a zombie. Child Zombies are also confirmed as a no (don't think I read it in the OP but one of the other posts here, just thought I'd mention it). Zombie Lifecycles have been on the table for a while, I've not read much about what exactly that is but I refuse to get a twitter account or browse redit unless it's posted here as well. Zombie 'types' have been mentioned as well, but it would't be different types so much as Military zombies would be slightly harder to kill because they're wearing flack jackets.

There's dangers in 'doing it yourself'. Last time I had a simple blood test I went blind for a few mins and nearly passed out, and that was with a trained nurse doing everything. I had to fast for 12 hours and was very hungry. I can only imagine if you're low on blood, fumbling around, hungry and dehydrated with nerves shot to hell because of both zombies and bandits. I'm somewhat against being able to self bloodbag, but if it's ever implemented it shouldn't just be an 'I found an IV kit plus, now I'm full blood again.' The way I would do it is have it so you need to go to a hospital or medic tent or a clinic that has equipment in it. Then you have to sit down and go through the draw blood/insert IV animation and wait around 30 seconds for the transfusion/withdrawal to complete. Honestly blood bagging others should have it's own risks as well, mostly the chance of screwing up. How many of us (and by us I mean the untrained) can easily find the right vein to insert an IV into on the first try? How many of us even know we're suppose to insert the needle into the vein, not only that but how you insert the needle? I've seen it done hundreds of times in real life and probably could not replicate the act.

All thous mags are for the M4 or any future weapon that can take thouse clips. Mosin has an internal box mag, the revolver has optional speed loaders, and the .45 has only one type of clip.

It would be, from my understanding they couldn't really do random snow and have the snowfall stay put afterwards. They would need to make (copy) a new map and edit it for snow details, paint the ground with snowdrifts, ect.

Seems kind of inhumane to slaughter them knowing they're just sick people.
IkaikaKekai replied to six_ten's topic in General Discussion
It's been assumed that we the survivors (players) are about 1% or less of the worlds population that are immune to the zombie virus. My guess is that it's airborne, so anyone not immune is/has been infected, unless they're living in a submarine or a sealed bunker before the outbreak, but I digress. I hate to bring Walking Dead into this but the CDC episode really brings it into context. If only 1% of the world is Immune, lets say a handful of the immune are scientists with the appropriate fields for developing a cure. They would be few and far in between, more than likely lacking the resources to developed a cure. For all we know in the story some lucky bastard in Greenland could have found the cure, but the necessary reagents and ingredients are from Australasia, and he has no means of communicating the cure to the world or anyone who can make it. It'd just be to difficult to 'round up' all the infected (which while it might not seam like it in the alpha) that greatly outnumber us, cleaning them, feeding them, and waiting for someone to make the cure. And for all we know it might not be treatable, the virus could have done permanent damage to the brain, so they will always be violent monsters no mater what. It's a moral dilemma only until one's trying to kill you. -
Thumbs up for research alone. Would be cool if they added some of these cars to the mix. Hell I kinda want some of these IRL.

See your location on your Map question
IkaikaKekai replied to DeepEuphoria's topic in General Discussion
Thats kinda weird, I've never had that happen in standalone. It might be a server side option but I hope not. -
Rocket is against the idea of 'dynamic' scripted events such as airdrops or non zombie NPCs. I'm afraid the Helicrashes or what ever will simply be in from server restart. You'll just have to look for smoke or something that shouldn't be there on the landscape.

It is black, when it's not it's a glitch, report/upvote it. Every time I've had it, my vision has been dimmed anyway and I seam to have only a first person view of the ground, unable to control the camera. Not truly an exploit "Yeah he's by my body, I can see his shoes."

Think the sewing kit way, but you'd need to sacrifice something for the repairs, IE Rags or a lesser quality item. IE 1 pristine rag to repair from worn condition to Repaired:Pristine (think we should differentiate between an item that hasn't been repaired and one that has). Or a Ruined Hoodie to repair a badly damaged Hoodie to Repaired:Worn. Some things should need other items to repair, the bulletproof vests for example would need Kevlar plates or swaths of Kevlar to repair. Some things should not be repairable (Helmets, gas masks, I mean if you could repair a Moto Helmet you could BUILD one.)

How successful would DayZ be on consoles?
IkaikaKekai replied to kermo50's topic in General Discussion
I think we're all forgetting that even if Dean say right now "(WARNING NOT AN ACTUAL QUOTE) With our sales numbers we were able to get another full team together to start working on the console version of DayZ.(WARNING NOT AN ACTUAL QUOTE)" we still more than likely would not be able to play with anyone on the consoles, they'ed by on their own little boxes. Seriously how many games do you know where the PC version can play with the Console version(s). Hell the different Console Versions can't even play among themselves. -

Long time no suggestion. Right now we have a few items that do the same thing, but we generally don't have more than one item of the type (other than for weapons). IE we only have one can opener (even though many items can open cans), one screwdriver. I propose adding in more such items to vary the loot a bit. I will use can openers as an example, right now we have just the one model. When the modelers have time they should add in different models (with different characteristics) This is the type we have now. Right now it takes up one slot and is the only type we have. I would think we would find these in more rural settings or say in deer stands as loot. This is a rather common type found in most homes. I'm tempted to say this one would take up 2 slots but would be much more commonly found in cities and towns to make up for that. This is the type you'd see issued to soldiers or in surplus stores. This would be another that takes up 1 slot (or a half/quarter slot if they implement even smaller item squares) and be found in military spawns and rarely in civilian spawns. For now I'm just using can openers as an example. This could apply to other items as well, this would mostly just spice up the variety of items we find. (IE toothbrushes or bottle cleaners for cleaning guns and equipment instead of just a guncleaning kit, lower quality/larger but more available)

Cell/mobile phones would not be able to make or take calls without a cellphone network. No energy no network. They could still have their uses but calling would not be one. You could set up an alarm (a set time or a countdown timer) to act as a distraction for zombies or even paranoid players or the 'what's that' crowd. You could take ingame pictures (as opposed to screen grabs and posting them online), IE for claiming a bounty or taking pics of a rival base/camp to show to your squad mates for tactical purposes.

I thought they opened instantly (at least for now)?
