NWAF used to be 'the base', Balota was more of a civilian/emergency airfield with a bunch of medical tents set up. I've yet to visit the one just labeled 'military base' north of Kamenka out of fear, but Zelenogorsk has what looks like an armored division base set up in it now. I'm sure as the story gets fleshed out a bit more, 'story changes' to the map will occur as they did in the mod (there was evidence of 'last stands' all around, namely berezino and Cherno). We honestly don't know how quickly the virus fucked shit up. The military/government might not have had time to stage a very good response. In real life military bases are spread out and almost specialized (Pearl Harbor/Hickam (though they're a joint base now to save money, Kaneohe MCB, Wheeler/Schofeild Army Air Base, not to mention various small locations such as ELF and VLF, Makua, the various 'rest camps' ect ect. And this is all on an island thats maybe 25 miles at it's widest point) Some military branches DO NOT get along at all (it got REAL ridiculous in the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy, to the point where one branch demanded equipment with screws that went counterclockwise just so they wouldn't be the same as the other branch). The only reason why Pearl and Hickam are one base now is because all that separated them was a fence and they figured it'd be cheaper to have one set of MPs patrolling one large base than 2 separate bases.

The End of The game to credits and maybe a film
IkaikaKekai replied to dgdino's topic in Suggestions
That...wow...you have some good ideas, but they are not for DayZ I'm afraid. For one: I know of no biological virus that could affect computer systems/chips. There's a few real life diseases that could with some mutations become the zombie virus (rabies for example, if that shit got airborne...) and since DayZ is trying to be 'authentic'/realistic I don't see you're scenario happening. It's been hinted that the 'story' of the infection might come out later on, but it would be in diaries or newspaper clippings that those who care can hunt down to figure out what happen, or if they don't give a shit they can go to an airfield and kill people. -
I'll take a loudener.

How do I know I don't like it if I don't read it? I'm sure there's a few dead UN peacekeepers that would disagree with the whole 'moral over bullets' thing. That little blue collection of cotton/wool isn't a magic thing that stops bullets. In real life it signifies that you are a UN Peacekeeper on assignment, and shooting you would have negative repercussions against the shooter and his host country, not the least of which is a bunch of other guys with blue hats shooting back. And what's to stop a KOSer from wearing the hat simply to get the bonus while he kills others. How will my green hat make me less visible with my bright orange raincoat? It won't, just as there won't be any 'Stats' that clothing provides. A hat is a hat, boots will protect your feet, a raincoat will keep the rain off of you, body armor will protect you a little bit form bullets that hit you in the chest. Wearing my UH hat doesn't make me better at sports, wearing a pair of golf shoes doesn't make me a better golfer, a special forces beret won't make me an unstoppable killing machine.

If you mean 'safezones' they will never happen in this game. Only the ones that players/groups enforce themselves. If I want to trade you a gun for some food in a barn while my buddy watches over everything from a nearby hill that's what happens. That or your 4 buddies kill my buddy and take our shit.

Yeah, the intro card where they were pig hunting didn't exactly strike confidence in me. I plan to buy an SKS after I get all the permits and such in order and can afford one. Think I'll just stick with the factory mag and stripper clips IRL. Though I'll probably get a bayonet online and attach it when no one's looking.
-
I would think there would be some Russian/CDF rations/MREs on Military bases (though mostly MREs are sent to forward bases or troops on patrol that don't have easy access to a messhall), but I doubt there'd be US Military MREs just laying about, unless the US had a base in Chenarus (which I doubt)
-
Don't own a gun in real life, but as far as I know the SKS's factory magazine isn't easily removable (thus the stripper clips), but they sell detachable mags for them. Maybe have a few extended/detachable mags for the SKS as well? I've seen some websites selling 100 round SKS mags.

Are there any plans to add new maps to the SA? (Ex. Lingor)
IkaikaKekai replied to IHaveNoSpoon's topic in General Discussion
The prison was suppose to go on Utes, but I keep hearing conflicting info on that. Some say Rocket wasn't happy with the prison on Utes ('felt like it was too forced' or some such) and is deciding on somewhere else to put it. Others say that Utes is being removed completely (even though it technically hasn't been added in yet).. I believe it was said the 'western' map was going to be one large urban area (A New York/London type city) that would have outlying suburbs and wooded/rural areas at the edges. We honestly won't know as I'm sure even Rocket only has a vague idea in his head of what he wants the 'new map' to be. -
Server Hopping. Combat Loging. Ghost?
IkaikaKekai replied to colbykid's topic in New Player Discussion
Server hopping is when you go to a high value loot area, loot it, then change to another server to loot it again, usually to get fully geared. It's generally considered cheating/bad sportsmanship. Combat logging is when you log out as soon as you're under attack in order to avoid being killed. Also considered cheating/bad sportsmanship. Ghosting is a bit harder to explain so I'll use an example: You're inside a building, I see you through the door and you shoot at me but miss. I get out of the way, log out, then go to another server. After I load I move to where you were, usually behind you, then jump back onto the original server to kill you. Again considered cheating/bad sportsmanship. -
No...The game is trying to go realistic. No +2 Maces or [beret of El Che] Items that give added stats.

Are there any plans to add new maps to the SA? (Ex. Lingor)
IkaikaKekai replied to IHaveNoSpoon's topic in General Discussion
They're focused on Chenarus+ at the moment. However Dean has stated he wants to do a 'Western' map at some point after Release (we're in Alpha right now, ((Alpha>Beta>Release)) ) -
Almost everything you've suggested has been either touched on or is a work in progress. Rocket has mentioned farming, however planting trees would be very unrealistic, unless you take a graph/clone from a currently fruiting tree it will take years for it to grow before it even produces fruit. I believe the K98 has been shown around a couple of times (back when they were doing closed testing and a model of it 'leaked'). I don't think snow can really be done 'right' with the engine currently (IE snow won't pile up on the ground). Vehicles will come when their new form works and is stable.

Red Dot sight of some type would be nice.

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.33.114782
IkaikaKekai replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
The guys working on new content have an easier job than the guys doing the bug fixing. I mean seriously what do you want, 'Yeah we're gonna have that fixed by Friday. Maybe Late Thursday if I chug some Pepsi.' It'll be fixed when they fix it, and even then it might get broken again next patch. -
Eastern Europeans are cheaper. Though I don't see that happening for this game considering how easily you can lose your shit and progress.

Assuming there's a military or even a government still around after the event (my theory is an airborne form of rabies, minus the 72 hour time limit, forget the exact numbers but something like 99% of the world are infected). Why would they spend precious resources to drop supplies to some backwater former Soviet country where the survivors are more than likely hostile anyway? Most organizations will bunker down, collect their resources and horde them till they can form some kind of resistance or plan. The Chenarusian government does not strike me as the type to have a bunker on standby to hunker down in and control a resistance. Russia is the closest possibility and they're not exactly known for their humanitarianism. Okay, let me put it this way, would you waste your limited resources to drop more of your limited resources in random fields on the off chance that some survivors will come and pick them up? I could see this happening if say the Chernarusian government was still around and say Cherno had walled itself off to fight off the infected, but even then the airdrops would only come to Cherno to help reinforce them. This isn't like dropping a bunch of guns and explosives to the French in the hopes they'll kill Nazis for you. If there was a military unit holding one of the airfields from the infected who had contact with a government entity that was still around there's a SLIM chance they would get resupplies. TL;DR Rocket said no Dynamic events or Non-Zombie NPCs.

duct tape used to tape mouths and prevent voice chat
IkaikaKekai replied to QCMBR's topic in Suggestions
You'd need more than just ducktape to 'silence' someone. The stuff you see in movies where one strip of duck tape sliences a victim is bullshit, stuffing (rag) would be required to actually muffle the sound and multiple strips to keep the stuffing in place. I won't go into detail how I know this... -
I myself have been corrected in this field, they don't restart or start stopped hearts, they stabilize irregular heartbeats and such. Also bit of electricity isn't going to cure a 7.62 brain hemorrhage or a lung full of buckshot.

Does the bipod work when in a crouched/standing position as well?
IkaikaKekai replied to thequantum's topic in New Player Discussion
I think it's been said that it negatively affects your accuracy if you're not prone and have the bipod deployed. Never tested it myself but would assume it's true. -
the man with the baseball bat at olsha....

His dick is still there, they just censored out his balls so they could claim 'oh that's not a penis, it's his ribcage. -
Doors - randomly open / closed on server reset
IkaikaKekai replied to FatboyTim's topic in Suggestions
Servers HAVE to restart eventually, even if everything works perfectly (which it wont), It'd just be a mater of maybe one scheduled restart a day vs 1 every 4 hours to redo loot and zombies. -
Just give me a grenade and some string. Grenade goes in pocket, pin comes out, string goes around grenade, string goes around finger, hand goes up, grenade goes up, spoon goes up, grenade goes boom. That or I can just pull the pin and drop it when they get close to cuff me.

Was just kidding as that's what I eat, but honestly all these would make great additions, especially when they add in the cooking mechanic. Getting fancy up in this Zombie Apocalypse. A mushroom and garlic rice dish with seared spam. And for desert, canned tangerines cooked in a NotaCola reduction peaches with heavy cream (2 packets of dried milk to one bottle of water).
