Rice doesn't simply absorb water, so mold would be a possible problem. If it did you could 'cook' rice by leaving a pot of it out on a humid day or by simply pouring water into a bag of rice, you can't. I believe items that get wet will have different conditions on them as the game progresses, IE jumping into a river or lake with your flashlight on it'll ruin the flashlight and battery. If you get your radio wet while it's turned off you'll have to wait for it to dry it to turn it on again without it shorting out and ruining itself. Sealed things shouldn't be too affected, IE putting items in protector case (I know of one brand called OtterBox in real life and is waterproof) will protect them from getting wet. Putting things in a pack should protect them slightly, IE a Damp backpack won't have any effect on the items inside, a wet backpack might have some items be damp, and a soaking backpack will have wet items, so on and so fourth.

They need to add Casio, Trumpets, and Accordions to DayZ, we have TKSO pants and jackets, not to mention the black beret already.

Character stuck & Question
IkaikaKekai replied to bsturak2@verizon.net's topic in New Player Discussion
Nope. Also, the default char thing only applies to your next character/spawn. It won't change your current one. IE you can't gear up as a white woman, log out, then change to a Hispanic male and log in as a Hispanic male. The char changing/defaulting to a female is a known bug, but easily fixed. -
Hmm, alright well even damaged and badly damaged lights should function.

What condition was the flashlight in? If it's ruined it wont work. Also try taking the flashlight off and using it as just a handheld (I do that often when I find one). If it works by itself then I would say definitely a bug report is in order.

Whats the 1st thing I should do when I spawn for the 1st time?
IkaikaKekai replied to parnell91's topic in New Player Discussion
I'd actually wait on that till you're bleeding, your tshirt provides a (very) small amount of protection. -

Put your battery into your flashlight. Next you should make sure there isn't a heavily armed person lurking around waiting to kill you, then start looking for gear in nearby houses. -
Yeah, it's not boarding Ukraine, though there's a few similarities between the two, as they both boarder Russia and are Post Soviets (I'm still a bit fuzzy about the Arma2 Story, but from what I remember it almost sounds like the same thing is happening, or heading in that direction with Ukraine) I'd agree that it's not politically correct, but a lot of things aren't, we should still learn from them (be nice if thous in power would learn how not to repeat the same mistakes that lead it this far but...).

Never used to be able to attache the w.light to the .45 before, must be new. Never had an M4 with the right hand guard and a w.light at the same time so don't know if they worked before or not.

taking an item off my hand and then.....
IkaikaKekai replied to williamdubois's topic in General Discussion
If you can reproduce it definitely report it. If not it might have just been a far away sniper or another bug. I hear that if you're in a tall enough building and you desync there's a chance you 'fall' through the floor and take damage without actually falling. -
Before they released, Rocket said something about zombies fighting each other, said he wasn't sure if it was a Bug or a Feature. Probably not the same thing, but it would make sense. I just hope they don't 'fix' it as it would be something interesting. Maybe they won't make it so zombies start turning on each other but maybe fight over a body, or simply kill each other as they try to break down a door, sort of like when people get trampled during a panic.

Anyway to play Singleplayer with cheats?
IkaikaKekai replied to exomonkeyman's topic in General Discussion
The only way to play 'single player' would be to have your own hive password protected and all that. Cheating (even on a single player server) would probably result in a Battleeye ban sooner or later. -
Should be an idea, I do hope things calm down quickly, but they likely won't. It's kinda past the 'disperse and you'll be granted Amnesty' phase when Police/Military APCs are on fire. A little surprised Russian troops haven't been deployed yet, then again the cameras are just now being pointed at Ukraine.

How do you deal with playing lone-wolf?
IkaikaKekai replied to Apocrypha8's topic in General Discussion
Alone? I'm NEVER alone. I have Mr. Compass to talk to, as well as Sir Reginald Fireax and Canny McOpener. I must say while I don't agree with Sgt. Ammobox's views on Abortion, he does make for some lively debates. he..heheh..EHHEHEHAHHEA!- 31 replies

Would ingame currency have a place in DayZ?
IkaikaKekai replied to Jaxis's topic in General Discussion
I'd seriously like to know why that shiny hunk of metal is valuable, can't eat it (well you CAN but the same could be said of rocks), as far as I know pure gold can't really hold an edge as a weapon, too soft for much else. Maybe if you're turning gold into wire for electricity. If there was a SHTF scenario, and someone was trying to buy stuff from me with gold, I'd probably rob them of everything BUT the gold and their life, just to give a painful lesson. EDIT To note, Money (bank notes) will be added in game, more than likely as trash loot or possibly as a minor crafting ingredient. -
That's not a picture...unless...*checks for Wizards*

My Achievement Idea - But will achievements happen?
IkaikaKekai replied to TreadShadow's topic in Suggestions
No. Achievements. Ever. I'd rather see Leaderboards than Acheivements, and I'd rather get shot in the foot in real life than have Leaderboards. -
Other than the leg pouches and the vests (and I think the female hoody) we pretty much have what we need to recreate the 'oldschool' look. Tatical Shirts, Baseball cap, Cargo pants, choice of boots.

Farming/gardening was mentioned by rocket as one possibility. I would like to see it added in if it was at least partly realistic IE no fully grown apple trees in 3 hours from seed. Stuff like tomatoes carrots celery cabbage potatoes would be nice even though in real life most of these would take around 90 days from seed to plate. I think harvesting from existing farms and gardens should be possible (I'm looking at you pumpkins...I don't care if it is the zombie apoc, I'll find a way to make a pie of you yet) on top of whatever farming mechanic they have in mind. Not like minecraft where you take the wheat plant and mill it down to flour (where really you take the SEEDS and mill them into flour). I've mentioned this a couple of times in different threads, but I think growing sprouts should be viable, find a jar or other clear container, find some seeds, pour some water in, put in your pack, wait a day or two and you have sprouts to eat. Also beans for mentioning canning/jarring, which along with salting meat should be a way to preserve food.

Are they going to bring back the any of the Dayz mod stats
IkaikaKekai replied to Max595's topic in General Discussion
Aye, they've gotten rid of the HUD for a reason, they may even get rid of the status indicators on the inventory screen as well as things progress. I think the current indicators are alright (always room for improvement) as they change color depending on how good/bad you're doing. -
To make this a non bitch post I think this should be looked at seriously. Legs should heal over time, I still hate the magical bone regenerating morphine. To be realistic I would have it be something like you have to splint your leg/arm to be able to use it/move (would still be a limp and unable to sprint). Lets say 5 days would be how long it'd take for your leg to heal without any medical intervention, 2 days with a splint, and 1 day to fully recover with splint and regular morphine/painkiller use for the pain.

It will never happen. There won't be any artificial safe zones where guns will magically not work, knives won't cut, bats won't hit, and bullets will just stop at an imaginary line. Even your island. KOS'ers will just wait on the shore with a scoped rifle and pick off people swimming.

How can a "rotten" kiwi be "pristine"?
IkaikaKekai replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in New Player Discussion
I finally figured it out! A pristine Rotten fruit is in otherwise perfect condition, it's just rotten. Worn rotten fruit has some bruising or other minor physical defects on it, damaged have more defects, badly damaged has even more, and ruined is smashed to shit. -
Let me rephrase, Rocket has said Non Zombie or Non Animal AI would NEVER happen in Vanilla Standalone. And since I don't see them giving permission to mod the game files anytime soon, there will be no Enemy AI other than zombies or maybe hostile animals.
