I want a broadsword. Maybe even a dress saber or something. Russian officers had that right?

Factories for crafting weapons, gear and ammo
IkaikaKekai replied to xXRangerXx's topic in Suggestions
Honestly, you're not gonna restart a factory just to pump out a couple of M4s or parts for a car. It's not cost effective (and by that I mean time cost). Factories require a great deal of power, you're not gonna just hook up a random honda generator and plug it into a Ford factory in Chenarus to make a limited amount of items. Factories are mass production, and require a lot of infrastructure to start up yet alone keep running. (Power, resources, workers, transportation, ect). The idea of actually manufacturing is something the devs should thing about, but more on a small scale. Rather than do a bunch of steps to restart the factories, you make a workshop with tools so you can do the more complex crafting. Maybe even when vehicles are added you can loot smaller machinery (drill press, belt sander, bench grinder, lathes and such, even though lathes are pretty large). Artisanship as opposed to mass production. -
If Chenarus was more densely populated and heavily urbanized (IE the entire coast was pretty much one big city) I could see a metro happening, other than that I don't think it fits. Rocket has said he wanted an underground setting (if they could make it work), but more than likely it will be tunnels under a city (either sewers or some sort of Cold War Era Soviet Bunker).

We'll the lore of it is that it's a post soviet country, so Soviet surplus SHOULD be the majority. Past that its conjecture. The country is loosely based on the Czech Republic, which has become more westernized. The reason why the M4 is there in abundance is because it was the first weapon they worked on that had the most attachments (bayonet/silencer, hand guards, bipod, flash light, scopes, magazines, stocks, all the 'mounting points' that they can work on and get working with one weapon, then copy what they did over to other weapons) and is in a way a placeholder for the AK (I would assume the 74 would replace it as the 'standard' assault weapon and make the M4 a bit rarer). Lorewise I think when the Standalone gets more weapons, AKs (AKMs/74/74u) will be the more common of the military weapons, being 'standard issue'. Some of the more western military type weapons could probably be explained as belonging to police forces or the few NATO forces that responded to the outbreak or something before the outbreak. I don't know if the events of Arma2 have taken place in the same universe as DayZ, but that would also explain a few of the NATO weapons.

Go out into the woods (If I'm not already there). Wait a few moments, make sure there's no stalkers around or zombies, then find a bush or something and log out in it. That or find a no loot building that's by itself and log out in a room that's not easily visible inside.

Still the last thing I would do. IF I was in a player base it would probably be to steal something and I'd like to leave as little evidence I was ever there as possible. Now a bandit base that just happens to have explosives on the other hand... And yes, Arma2 does have destructible buildings (think they have 'prebuilt' destruction models, so no 'smart' destruction like in Battlefield (IE put a tank round through a wall and that wall goes down rather than the whole building) ). The new/redone buildings may or may not have a 'destruction' model as they would be new from Arma2.
-
Buildings were somewhat destructible in the mod. For a while throwing smoke grenades could DESTROY a building if you threw enough (confirmed glitch, pretty sure it was patched out). Satchel charges and the like also would destroy a building. Unless heavy explosives are added I doubt we'll have to worry too much about destructible buildings. Destroying a building would be the last thing on my mind to be honest as a thing to do. Unless it was a warehouse FULL of zombies or something and even then I'd be more likely to barricade the door.

Well at least you picked an IMI DE. I honestly don't see it fitting the setting, as mentioned above I don't think your average Chenarus Farmer would be buying a DE for home defense/hunting, and there's really no way to 'spawn it only in the north' as weapon spawns are scattered randomly among buildings. I also don't think your average CDF solider/Officer would be buying it as his personal sidearm either.

...Quoi? I have the feeling I should be insulted for some reason.

The problem with this is that everyone would need to have the audio files on their computer to hear them. I'm not sure but they could possibly do something where the server 'sees' the files and uploads them to the server, but that might just be a legal headache not to mention a possible way to exploit/hack. Battlefield:Vietnam had something similar, where you could replace one of the preset 'radio stations' (songs) with your own songs. Thing is while you might be bumping Linkin Park on your radio, I'm still hearing Ride of the Valkyries on my end (I know because my old clan leader would keep his mic open and sing in Vent, I'd hear Linkin Park on his mic but something else would be playing on the vehicle radio). If they add in musical radios (they already have plans for Internet Radio stations on the Radios) it'll probably be 'public domain' type songs found on CDs or some other media (more than likely 'Russian'/Eastern European music rather than *Random American Musician*'s newest hit.

Four words: shoe box mine.

Couldn't resist. That aside I don't think there realistically would be crocs in Cherno. I would think it would get too cold for them (they are cold blooded after all) and since the swamp is on the coast I would assume it is brackish if not salt water.

Would you like DayZ on Console?
IkaikaKekai replied to GhostSlayer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
First of all, this is an old report, before SA was even released old. This was the point when the 'news' was starting to pay attention to DayZ and would twist every bit of info they could. Dean has said that they would consider going to consoles, but not till after DayZ is in 'final' release on PC. We've got at least a year and a half before that happens, not to mention more time to develop/dumb down the code for consoles. And really, we're not gonna have cross platform play anyway so we probably won't have any contact with the Dirty Peasants other than on this forum, if at all. -
This sounds more like an exploit and should be reported to the bug tracker.

If you already have Arma2+OA/3 the mod is free.
-
I want the Bizon back. Weak as hell (in the mod anyway) but I loved that large clip and silencer. I could clear a small town of zombies with that thing without having to reload if I took my time.
-
DayZ (on the above and below site) is the Standalone. https://store.bistudio.com/dayz DayZ mod is not available to buy as it is free. The Mod requires Arma 2 and OA to play, where as you can just buy DayZ and play it (thus standalone).
-
I don't think the engine can really handle 'digging'. In the mod even the 'buried stashes' were really just items above the ground (though much lower profile). Base building will be done later on (I think the estimate was late Beta or maybe even after 'release'.) and they would be underground (instanced if they are still going with that system). As for building 'hidden' airbases I think you don't know what that includes. Try walking the runway at any of the airfields and think about how much work that would be with just hand tools (powered or unpowered, still gonna take you a long time)
-
Standalone is separate from The Arma2 Mod DayZ. The DayZ mod is free (assuming you have Arma2 + OA) where as Standalone is about $30 and you do not need Arma2 or anything else to play it. The two are different in both looks and in some respects mechanics.

Did he see me? Bang.

Exactly Durr. I like the Decoy bags too. (love the OD vest with the orange pocket flaps)
-
More hunting gear would be nice. I mean they've got the pants, might as well add in jackets/shirts/vests in the same patterns (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter). Even add in utility vests (similar to the UK vests we got now but more 'civilian', maybe make them have a reflective stripe as a trade off)
-
No, no no, they are far from suicidal, there's all these gun and ax wielding maniacs on the ground hunting each other for sport and forcing the weaker ones to drink bottles of bleach. In fact there's on in the fore ground right now with a pitch fork. He's safer up there.

Ballistic Helmets wont Fit in my Head!
IkaikaKekai replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Are you wearing a mask? They're suppose to not be able to be worn together or something. -
Doubt it'd be a 'new base', most of the other's have said that it's old/been in the game for a bit, I myself have never found it but I don't explore that area too much. Judging from the map it doesn't really look like it'd be a base, maybe a check point or some sort of support structure for the airfield. It might not even be related to the airfield at all, could be some kind of improved logging camp or a forestry station or something else. It might be incomplete, or it might just be whatever it is. We'd probably have to ask one of the map makers about it.
