Before Rocket left he wanted to make containerized items, IE being able to dig into cabinets and fridges. I don't know if they scrapped the idea or not (someone suggested they did, but it was part of a 'this game sucks' rant filled with misinformation), however I would think when barricadeing becomes more than just 'lock door' they'll start work on cabinets and such again, that and when persistence is more what they want it to be. Highly doubt it. Performance wise I think there's only minor differences between the original AK and the AKM and almost no visual difference. Off topic, try to keep your suggestions seperate, IE don't post gun suggestions in your food suggestion thread. Keeps things tidy around here.

How do you hacksaw the shotgun?
IkaikaKekai replied to cheranuscrusiser's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, sorry about that, went by a couple pictures I saw online of one with a long barrel rather than pics of the DayZ model. -

IkaikaKekai replied to cheranuscrusiser's topic in General Discussion
Looking at the Mp133, it looks like the tube mag is the same length as the barrel, so cutting that off would pretty much make it so you would HAVE to chamber a round as the spring would be gone. It'd be possible to cut it down but it'd require more tools and expertise. The Pistol grip 133 looks like it could be sawn down as it has a shorter tube mag, but you could still only cut it down to the end of the tube safely. Having never found one in game I've never had a chance to try sawing it off. With a break action like the IZH there's no magazine to worry about. -
1) I'm sure they will add in more processed food types as development proceeds. Keep in mind most of this would not last very long without refrigeration/preservation. @Liquidcactus Processed meat like sausages (depending on the type) are made to be self preserving. That said, some whole kielbasa links will last much longer than that packet of bologna you'd find in the super market at room temperature. 2) FYI Vodka has been 'fixed' so I'm sure it won't be long. Someone even suggested being able to brew beer (while he suggested it for the wrong reason ((using it as an alternative to boiling water)) he did bring up some good points), again it's still early so it won't be a priority to implement a lot of variety, IE there's no real reason to test the difference between Vodka, Rum, and Whiskey, now Vodka, Beer, and Kvass on the other hand would be something to test. Later on when we get into beta I think we'll see more variety when it's just a mater of doing the art for a new soda can. 3) If I remember right, they took rotten food out for now because of how persistence is going to work, or at least how they want it to work. No rotten food will spawn, only pristine food. As time goes on it will go through the stages (pristine, worn, damaged, ruined) before turning rotten. So you might find rotten food laying around but at one time it was pristine, but no one got to it in time. 4) True, but again we're still in early alpha, more animations will come. I would like to see us able to make more food or at least preserve food. IE grind/cut up meat, stuff it into intestines to make sausage, scrounge up ingredients to make things like pocket pies or other such meals that would give more benefits than their individual ingredients. I'd also like to see us actually able to cook food other than just to kill bacteria. IE eating a can of beans you had on the fire for a bit to warm up quicker in the colder months/nights. Smoking meat rather than just generic 'cooking' so you don't just kill 10 cows, cook the steaks and stuff all that meat into a tent to last forever, (that would probably fall under the 'rotten' food or life cycle category)

What gun was your first shooting kill with?
IkaikaKekai replied to Heatofbattle's topic in General Discussion
Mosin, think this was Day two after release, possibly day one. Just found the mosin and it was night. I see two people running towards me, one runs right at me screaming "Rawr, I'm gonna kill you bitch!" as he ran up to me with his harmless flashlight. I regret killing his friend...sort of. -

IkaikaKekai replied to 5mirkeh's topic in General Discussion
That would be pretty cool. I'd love to see it where a 'well armed' group of say 6 or more people each have different guns, not because they wanted to be different, but because they didn't find 6 AKMs, but rather an AKM, an SKS, a Mosin, an M1, a Sporter, ect ect. I was about to rip you a new one as I read that last sentence, then I reread that last word. My knowledge doesn't really extend that far but I'm sure Gews' does. And yeah that is pretty true, though keep in mind values are tweakable right now. A diner bell on a diner bell? Never thought of it like that. Especially if they do home made silencers. *pew, pew, pew, pew, pew* Wait? How many rounds was that? Ah should be okay. *click, PING!* -

Looks like. At the very least they have the model already in. I'm a bit on the fence, on the one hand there's the little M1 fanboy in me that screams with glee at being able to use said rifle in game. Then there's the slightly more logical me that says 'realistically they probably wouldn't have very many of them in Chenarus'...still though would be kinda sweet. Just curious if they'ed have it in 30-6 or 7.62 NATO. -

Now I have a reason to jump back in, find a tracksuit and a VS3, and start driving around ina V3S bumping Leningrad over my mic while swerving all over the road. -
I can't locate the post (It's buried somewhere in one of the many 'what year is it' topics that have more than likely gotten merged), but the 'guess' by one of the devs is that it's late 2013 at the earliest. It's also been stated that Chenarus is a Post Soviet Republic. Now that that's out of the way, I don't think We'd be seeing F-150s or Mustangs cruising down the asphalt. I do think there'd be room for things like a Corsair or Galaxy, but the majority should be thinks like GAZs Skodas ect.

I haven't seen this info that was 'confirmed' on the 8th persay, but I'd say it's more than likely as they want to focus more on civilian weapons (and I don't mean American 'Civilian' weapons like the Sporter version of the FN P90) -
German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA
IkaikaKekai replied to stielhandgranate's topic in Suggestions
Looks pretty cool, though honestly I'd like to see a Vodnik or some other Russian/Soviet scout/light vehicle added in first. Damnit that thing looks so 'cute' I want a real one now...Don't think I could justify it as a beekeeper though... -
The game is also heavily unoptimized at the moment, and according to the Devs there's not really anything lasting they can do to till the beta phase to improve performance.

Regarding reanimation of a killed/dead player
IkaikaKekai replied to wolf-yiggy's topic in General Discussion
Not gonna happen, dead is dead, which is why we can kill the zombies with non headshots/brain destruction. They are not the undead, they are rabid. -
Because there are no consequences. That's what it all stems from. Other than someone screaming at you after they've been killed, nothing bad will happen. There won't be the police showing up to arrest/kill you, there aren't enough zombies right now to make a difference when you 'ring the dinnerbell'. After that it branches out, 'everyone's gonna kill me, why should I give them the chance?' 'lol ima quickscope dat n00b', ect, ect. You either kill or die, you keep on going. If you kill you get their shit (if they have any) and you keep moving, maybe you hang around a bit in case they had any friends or come back for their stuff. You die, you respawn, you get angry and gear up again and want to kill someone. And of course, some people are just fucked in the head and we don't have asylums anymore. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/219094-creative-ways-to-rob-and-kill/

Reduce running speed by increments as vehicles are introduced
IkaikaKekai replied to theirongiant's topic in Suggestions
Which will be never. I'm a little surprised player run/sprint speed hasn't been nerfed already. -
The damage would already be done if you get cold before you take off the wet clothes, especially if it was still raining when you put on the new clothes. The only cure would be fire...also did you really craft a full ghillie suit before you found a book of matches? Priorities... Assuming you were running around a lot BEFORE you got overheated? That would be the culprit in this case, you were wearing a heavily camouflaged suit which was made to be worn by people who lay down or stand still for very long periods of time and move very slowly if at all to avoid detection, and I'm sure they still get dehydrated and overheated in real life (and they're expected to make an accurate, long range killshot after all that).
-
Nope, sounds like it's working good to me. A ghillie suit is not waterproof, otherwise it'd probably be HOTTER. Try wrapping yourself in a blanket that was left out in the rain overnight and tell me how warm it is? I would assume you were running around like a chicken with it's head cut off while you had the ghillie on?

Does it really matter?

They tried something similar in the mod and they ended up scrapping it.

How do you tell if they're in combat?
-
Judging by the Roadmap, 'Steam community integration (Achievements, Steamworks modding, etc)' is slated for Q4, so that'd be the absolute EARLIEST we could see mods (though more than likely not till 2016 for any real mods that aren't something simple like UI changes or a kill counter). Even then they didn't say Modding persay was a goal of Q4 2015, that's just an assumption on my part.

The game is more World of Warcraft than Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed. We'll probably see expansion packs (more than likely in the form of Dev released maps) and of course we'll see regular updates, but a sequel? Don't think we'll be seeing one. I mean why have a sequel? You have a squeal when you have a story you want to continue telling after a conclusion has been made. DayZ has pretty much no story and no endgame, there's no rescue team coming to get you, there's no scientist in a bunker that you can help find a 'cure' for. I mean really, any sequel they can do would/will probably be modded by someone in his free time where it'd take them another 2-3 years to get DayZ2: DayOne up and running.
-
Was in since the Mod, and I think it was in Gorka Heav. I want to say it was in a couple more villages but can't think of any so it might very well be 'unique'.

public non pvp servers... any of them really non pvp?
IkaikaKekai replied to Flatus's topic in New Player Discussion
It is against server rules to advertise as 'Non PVP' on a public hive server. Feel free to report them so they get their server taken away without a refund (don't have the link handy) -
A sharp stick can stop a tank if used right. I've not gotten into many Melee VS Guns fights (or any fights for that mater) to know how well a Farming Hoe would do against someone geared...also ALPHA, values get tweaked all the time. Sounds like this guy just got the drop on you and your friend, especially if the only shot he got off missed. And again, that's assuming he's not a SK that's going to be bitching on these forums in a week or two after he gets a global ban.
