The idea/concept has been suggested before. But DayZ would be kind of a shitty game if you had to spend actual time in a bed recover and have to stay in game to do it. The general consensus is that if you're logged out you're sleeping in game. That said I do like the idea of being able to 'rest' to heal faster, two ways to go about it that wouldn't be exclusive. 1) You actually lay down/rest in a bed and you heal at a slightly quicker rate than if you were just running around doing things. And since you're resting your body is using up less hydration and food, this could also apply to sitting down, either on the ground or in a chair (mayby without the 'enhanced' heal rate). 2) You can lay down in a bed and can log out either instantly or with a reduced timer (Ie 10 seconds instead of 30). While you're logged out you'll start to heal over time, BUT you'll also consume some hydration and food while logged out and healing. There would have to be a few rules to this to prevent people from logging out while hungry and thirsty and logging in near death. Let's say when you log out in a bed you can only heal a maximum of 25% of your total health/blood, and say consume 10% of your hydration and food over the course of 4 hours or so. If you're already healthy or if you have more than 75% of your health you'll only heal and consume up to the point you got to 100% And on the other end of the spectrum you would only heal as long as you had more than 20% hydration and/or food. Be a good way to 'top off' your health when you log out, have a nice meal and go to bed then log out. For #2, there would have to be some mechanic to 'clean' or otherwise prepare a bed, or people will just use beds as a means to combat log/ghost. This could also be tied in with whatever sanitation mechanic they're going to have. IE if you just sleep in random beds in random houses without making them or cleaning them you might get bedbugs or some minor disease when you get up.

The 'Locking' thing doesn't really make much sense. I can get stuff out of the bottom of my bag in real life unless it's literally packed full with volume filling objects (like clothes). The Gravity idea doesn't make too much sense on it's own either, at least not how you said it. I would always have the smallest things make their way to the bottom of my pack, followed by the heaviest things. Even though you didn't say it, I kind of like that idea about separate pockets on one item, instead of just one 'pooled' inventory for the item. With some programing magic they might be able to make inventory hitboxes as well that way. IE if someone shoots you in the right hip and you had a map in your right pocket, it's now ruined.

I think story wise DayZ takes place sometimes after the events of Arma 2, which is to help explain why there's some NATO gear there. It would also make sense that being on the border of Russia that they would deploy forces durring an outbreak, to either guard their border, deal with refugees/infected, or to try and take advantage of the chaos.

You spawned in 5 tanks and now you're...

Yes, but you can't talk while unconscious. Since they can't legally make some way to block 3rd party VOIP programs in game they instead block your ability to see and hear. There's a point where gameplay has to give in to realism, this is one of those points.

Have they even seriously begun work on the console 'ports' yet?

While the CDF probably was a joke, you can't really shoot a virus, especially if MAYBE one guy in the entire platoon is the only one who won't turn zombie. I hate to make Walking Dead comparisons with DayZ but it would be something like that, everyone's infected. All it would take would be an old man to have a heart attack inside the walls and now there's another outbreak. Keep in mind we're still in Alpha (at least for a couple more updates), as tired as that 'excuse' is getting now, they're probably still debaiting on the 'story' and lore and if there should even be one. I mean if you look at the Living Dead saga they never ever really explained WHY the dead were rising. They said something about a radioactive probe returning from space in the very first one but even then the 'expert's were arguing about whether that was the cause or not. We just have to wait and see if they'll give us more background on the Infection or not.

Lore wise, some disease/virus became airborne, something like 60% of the world's population simply died from it, roughly 38% became the zombies as we know them today, and 2% were immune. There were no 'safe zones' or uninfected individuals. Numbers might be off but they're pretty close if I remember right. Supposedly Rocket had a virologist (supposedly his brother) write up the details but to my knowledge they were never released. My money would be on a mutated form(s) of rabies as rabies is fatal if not treated right away (explains the 60%), 'rage/madness' is one of the results of rabies (explains the 38%, but with some strain where it's not inherently fatal).

Are Whitelists Allowed On Public Hive Community Servers?
IkaikaKekai replied to Waffleology's topic in Servers
If you find such a server that violates the rules, report them to the server provider (there's a sticky post somewhere). With luck the server providers will actually get off their asses and shutdown the server without a refund. -
On the Public Hive, you cannot have more than one character per server type. You can have one First Person Server Character, and one Third Person Server Character. There is no transfer between the two, having a 1PP Character should/will not affect whatever you do on a 3PP server. You cannot have a 'farmer' and a 'scavenger' on the same server, you only have your one character. This is not a bug, this is working as intended at the moment.

Not enough information here for anyone to help you. What isn't working? Do you have CTDs, can you not see any servers in the server list, is your computer so old that it starts making a funny smells and sounds whenever you so much as hover over DayZ's icon?

This one. https://www.realsimple.com/health/mind-mood/emotional-health/how-cope-loss You're going to need it whether you're a new player or old pro.

Haven't played recently, but think just hitting play puts you on a random server that fits within your ping settings. So you might be getting put on different private hives, public servers ect that won't have your character carry over. Use the server browser to find a server and stick to it.

There was a wipe recently, that might have been it.

DayZ Standalone Chernarus Rail System Map
IkaikaKekai replied to DayZ Standalone News's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, as I mentioned boxcars still do have their uses, and an intermodal container would be hard to unload individual lots/units of cargo at stations, they're mostly useful because the entire load can be transferred quickly off or to another vehicle, then loaded/unloaded at the crew's leisure in a yard. Very good for say getting a container of full of potato chips from the factory to a distribution center then to a store in another country/city. But it has to get broken down and redistributed at some point, in Chenarus' case it would just happen at the docks or warehouses nearby rather than at an inland facility. -

Cars like these are still in use, but yes there are no deck or well cars in Chenarus (I'm not sure what they use in Europe but they're missing at the very least). Chenarus doesn't seam to be a very advanced country, so using leftover box cars would make sense. More than likely the containers would be unloaded and their contents transferred to railcars or vice versa, so it's still plausable detail wise. Though it wouldn't take much for them to add in some other cars/wagons. Railroads do have a budget to work with and have to adapt. In the US at least older equipment/rolling stock is recycled, if a Boxcar is no longer fit for revenue service but otherwise in good condition they'll use it for Maintenance of Way service or take it off the tracks, remove it's wheels and set it up someplace as a storage shed. -
DayZ Standalone Chernarus Rail System Map
IkaikaKekai replied to DayZ Standalone News's topic in General Discussion
Nice job, though most maps rarely if ever detail rail lines as much as you did. I'm not even sure if Railroads themselves keep detailed maps (IE Switch Stands, Signals, Equipment boxes). I stopped playing quite a few map updates ago but was satisfied with the level of detail they put into the tracks, rolling stock, and locomotives. I've lost count of how many games 'killed' immersion for me by having trains just sort of plastered in or had wrong details (IE when a loco and rolling stock have both Knuckle Couplers and Buffers, or an electric train having no overhead gantry or third rail system). I too would like to see some sort of workable train system (Pump Car, Speeder, actually getting a loco up and running) as the ground work at least seems to be in, but I think we'll have to wait for modders to do it. -
You can be killed by a half naked man with a sharp stick. Your Ghillie suit and VSS won't help you not die.

Sounds like a case of Lazy to me, that can be fatal in survival situations.

I'd agree with DannyDog, would make a good mod or even an option for private hive servers to do. I'm against the idea of starting with a weapon though, maybe just limit it to food and basic clothing items? IE get a good roll and buy a rain coat, child's backpack, and a PET bottle.

Multiple Characters on specific servers..?

They actually talked about it a while ago. -
Marketable Items on Steam ( Player Attraction & Cheating Reduction )
IkaikaKekai replied to exacomvm's topic in Suggestions
Sounds like a horrible idea for DayZ, turning a survival game into pay to win. And if you made it for purely cosmetic items like a weapons skin or unique clothing it probably wouldn't make enough money to justify the costs to keep it going. -
Constant Game Crash Every 10-20 Minutes

You do all the normal stuff? Verify Integrity, restart, verify again, reinstall, ect?
