You do know you can already mark maps right? Forget how exactly but you either double right or left click on the spot and an X will form and you can type something on that spot.

Herbalism in DayZ - Complete Herbs and Medicinal Plants List
IkaikaKekai replied to Damnyourdeadman's topic in Suggestions
We call Plantago Laukahi here, and was used quite a bit as medicine by the Native Hawaiians (even to this day, the native strain isn't as common but it does grow like a weed, most people don't even give it a second look. I scatter seeds around urban areas whenever I get the chance, kind of a Ninja Prep) EDIT We also use a lot of Aloe here as well. Got a couple plants out in the yard, good for bug bites, sunburns, burns, and itching. One of our dogs had mange and rolled around in one of the plants a while back (though that might have just been because he wanted to scratch on the thorns). Would love to see more medicinal plants added in, though I think we run the risk of a Skyrimesqe overload of plants if we add too many in, maybe just 1 for each 'ailment' they add in. -
That's the Takedown, not all 10/22s can breakdown like that. Think the takedown's relatively new. That would be pretty cool, wondering how they'ed do it though. IE if they make the kit a 'stock attachment' that changes the weapon up a bit. Would also allow other kits to be brought in (with permission) though for simplictiy they should probably limit it to a 'tactical/taticool' model like you showed, the standard stock we have now, and a plastic/snyth takedown stock like Draco suggested (though I'm pretty sure it don't work like that IRL).

No, the Mosin and SKS both have an internal, non-detachable magazine. You drag ammo directly onto the gun to reload it, or if you find a proper stripper clip that acts as a 'magazine' so you can hit R to reload.
-
Do you mean you can't remove the magazine (can't, it's no detachable) or you can't remove ammo from the gun?

The 'challenge' as you put it (aside from other players) is under construction and being tweaked. Sure you can just spawn in, run to the nearest airfield and grab a machine gun and top tier military gear. But that's all you'll have, an AK, some Gorka clothes, not to mention an empty stomach and dry bladder. There shouldn't be some some arbitrary system where 'I need to get X kills with a hunting shotgun before I can use an AA12.' If you find an AK in a garage that someone abandoned because they preferred the mosin or SKS or whatever they found, then good for you, you lucked out. The challenge will only increase. Right now you need food and water. Food's gonna get harder to come by, and you'll need to worry if someone took a shit in that river you just drank from because you didn't find any purifier tabs and don't have a means to boil water. Zombies will be harder/easier to deal with depending on your play style.

I'm not talking about walking onto an active military base and grabbing something from the armory. Maybe I'm spoiled because I'm an American, but I can walk to a gun store and buy a military type rifle (I live in Hawaii and we have laws similar to the assault weapon ban, but I can still go out and buy an AK, and through questionable or downright illegal means get a full auto kit for it). In the Zombie Apoc, no one's gonna be around to guard an armory or police station. That and we're well past the point of outbreak, its possible looters raided the armories and such and took their new found weapons home to defend their land before they eventually succumbed. That aside keep in mind we don't even have HALF the weapons we're eventually gonna get (we don't even have half the weapons that have assets made for them, they've showed off models of the Garand, what looks like a K98, and several others). The police tier as you call it will get fleshed out, it'll just take time, which is why we're in an alpha. We're going to have a pyramid of guns, the lower tier and majority will be civilian guns, next tier will be police/special weapons, with the golden crown being the much sought after military weapons. But even then Police and Military weapons start to blur the line. (Again I'm probably biased/have an American Viewpoint) The 'standard' Police weapon is usually a civilian weapon held to higher standards (customized for accuracy/reliability) and uniform, you don't want 1/3rd of the police force walking around with .45 ACP, .357/.38, and 9mm side arms. SWAT or other tactical teams will usually have weapons that are equal to or just a step below a Military Special forces team. I'm not harping on the idea of a new 'tier' of weapons, I was criticizing the idea that there should be some sort of system in place so you don't go from a single shot break action shotgun to an AA12 (god forbid that's ever added to Vanilla). It'll get 'fixed' eventually. It's like someone coming on and saying 'they should add a vehicle other than the one truck we have'.
-
There's no system in place to prevent that because there shouldn't be. There's nothing in real life that prevents you from an AK being your first gun, or 'you need X hours with a 10/22 before you can upgrade to an AR platform.' If your lucky you'll find an AK as your first gun. I tend to avoid the military automatics but that's personal preference. If I find an AKM and magazine before I find a sporter and mag I'm gonna use the AK till I find another weapon.

I didn't know it wasn't implemented yet and kept trying to use it on my greenhouses...it would be nice to use as a fuel source even if it's a 'quick' burn like a piece of paper. I think it would have to be 'dried' plant material though before it burns (or burns well anyway) and would probably cause smoke if used green. I do like the idea of burning trash as a means of cleaning up things. Unless they make it so you can cut rags from ruined clothing (and make badly damaged rags) there's gonna be a lot of gear just tossed aside giving people false hope.

Don't know about a faire but it does look more tourist attraction, I'll need to head out there one day to check it out better. They did just add a mace to the game didn't they? EDIT That said a war museum or even some evidence of a movie being filmed would make WW2 Era German Unis fit in a bit better. I still don't think they'ed be very useful though outside of 'cosplay', but then again neither are the Payday masks.

Well...only thing I probably would have done differently is not ate him...still would have cut him up into little bits though. Probably left a note next to the pile of meat...

You need Arma2: CO for DayZ MOD You do not need Arma2 or anything else for DayZ Standalone (simply referred to as DayZ) aside from DayZ (standalone) To my knowledge everybody gets the lite versions of the DLCs (BAF, PMC, ACR), so you don't need to buy them. Buying the full versions of those three will improve the graphics for certain objects in DayZ Mod.

Source? Must admit I haven't been keeping tight tabs on things.

NYET! You will ride proud Soviet Bicycle, not sissy Capitalist Pig Dog bicycle with decadent 'variations'. You will Take Moskova Blue, Volga Green, Ural Yellow, or Motherland Red, all True Bicycles will have basket mounted on for hauling grain for the Motherland! Made in same factory that made tanks that destroyed the Fascists! Seriously though I don't think we'd find much variety in the way of bikes in chenarus, not like you'd find in western Europe or in the US.

Sweet looking. I almost thought that bridge was a dam of some sort the way the coastline lined up with it and the water looked different. Got a little excited there for a moment then I calmed down.

Well until they can do a brain link with video games that won't kill us or end up the plot of some anime(s) we'll have to put up with 'knowing' through status conditions. And as said earlier they'll work on something better, what we have is placeholder.

You would still be starving, you just wouldn't feel it. Appetite is your desire to eat. Hunger is your need to eat.

There is something off about AKs....(bug)
IkaikaKekai replied to DickCheney's topic in General Discussion
Just a bug, report it in the tracker so they'll get to it eventually. Also the suppressor on the AK74 type rifles is in front of the compensator, I think its suppose to replace the compensator. -
Before Rocket left he wanted to make containerized items, IE being able to dig into cabinets and fridges. I don't know if they scrapped the idea or not (someone suggested they did, but it was part of a 'this game sucks' rant filled with misinformation), however I would think when barricadeing becomes more than just 'lock door' they'll start work on cabinets and such again, that and when persistence is more what they want it to be. Highly doubt it. Performance wise I think there's only minor differences between the original AK and the AKM and almost no visual difference. Off topic, try to keep your suggestions seperate, IE don't post gun suggestions in your food suggestion thread. Keeps things tidy around here.

How do you hacksaw the shotgun?
IkaikaKekai replied to cheranuscrusiser's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, sorry about that, went by a couple pictures I saw online of one with a long barrel rather than pics of the DayZ model. -
How do you hacksaw the shotgun?
IkaikaKekai replied to cheranuscrusiser's topic in General Discussion
Looking at the Mp133, it looks like the tube mag is the same length as the barrel, so cutting that off would pretty much make it so you would HAVE to chamber a round as the spring would be gone. It'd be possible to cut it down but it'd require more tools and expertise. The Pistol grip 133 looks like it could be sawn down as it has a shorter tube mag, but you could still only cut it down to the end of the tube safely. Having never found one in game I've never had a chance to try sawing it off. With a break action like the IZH there's no magazine to worry about. -
1) I'm sure they will add in more processed food types as development proceeds. Keep in mind most of this would not last very long without refrigeration/preservation. @Liquidcactus Processed meat like sausages (depending on the type) are made to be self preserving. That said, some whole kielbasa links will last much longer than that packet of bologna you'd find in the super market at room temperature. 2) FYI Vodka has been 'fixed' so I'm sure it won't be long. Someone even suggested being able to brew beer (while he suggested it for the wrong reason ((using it as an alternative to boiling water)) he did bring up some good points), again it's still early so it won't be a priority to implement a lot of variety, IE there's no real reason to test the difference between Vodka, Rum, and Whiskey, now Vodka, Beer, and Kvass on the other hand would be something to test. Later on when we get into beta I think we'll see more variety when it's just a mater of doing the art for a new soda can. 3) If I remember right, they took rotten food out for now because of how persistence is going to work, or at least how they want it to work. No rotten food will spawn, only pristine food. As time goes on it will go through the stages (pristine, worn, damaged, ruined) before turning rotten. So you might find rotten food laying around but at one time it was pristine, but no one got to it in time. 4) True, but again we're still in early alpha, more animations will come. I would like to see us able to make more food or at least preserve food. IE grind/cut up meat, stuff it into intestines to make sausage, scrounge up ingredients to make things like pocket pies or other such meals that would give more benefits than their individual ingredients. I'd also like to see us actually able to cook food other than just to kill bacteria. IE eating a can of beans you had on the fire for a bit to warm up quicker in the colder months/nights. Smoking meat rather than just generic 'cooking' so you don't just kill 10 cows, cook the steaks and stuff all that meat into a tent to last forever, (that would probably fall under the 'rotten' food or life cycle category)

What gun was your first shooting kill with?
IkaikaKekai replied to Heatofbattle's topic in General Discussion
Mosin, think this was Day two after release, possibly day one. Just found the mosin and it was night. I see two people running towards me, one runs right at me screaming "Rawr, I'm gonna kill you bitch!" as he ran up to me with his harmless flashlight. I regret killing his friend...sort of. -

That would be pretty cool. I'd love to see it where a 'well armed' group of say 6 or more people each have different guns, not because they wanted to be different, but because they didn't find 6 AKMs, but rather an AKM, an SKS, a Mosin, an M1, a Sporter, ect ect. I was about to rip you a new one as I read that last sentence, then I reread that last word. My knowledge doesn't really extend that far but I'm sure Gews' does. And yeah that is pretty true, though keep in mind values are tweakable right now. A diner bell on a diner bell? Never thought of it like that. Especially if they do home made silencers. *pew, pew, pew, pew, pew* Wait? How many rounds was that? Ah should be okay. *click, PING!* -

Looks like. At the very least they have the model already in. I'm a bit on the fence, on the one hand there's the little M1 fanboy in me that screams with glee at being able to use said rifle in game. Then there's the slightly more logical me that says 'realistically they probably wouldn't have very many of them in Chenarus'...still though would be kinda sweet. Just curious if they'ed have it in 30-6 or 7.62 NATO.
