Cannot use an improvised suppressor with a mosin compensator
IkaikaKekai replied to trev186's topic in General Discussion
Wouldn't duck taping it to the compensator make the compensator a moot point anyway? That and it'd probably get blasted off after the first couple of shots anyway since it's not supported by the barrel itself. EDIT also the suppressor wouldn't work at all with a compensator. -

swords, smithing, furnace, melee and ragnar
IkaikaKekai replied to Wookieenoob's topic in Suggestions
The Pickax was added as a melee and digging tool, and we can also collect rocks with it. We already have the swords that spawn in castles, along with maces (No Katana please...to quote Max Brooks "You kinda need to be a Samurai to use a Samurai Sword effectively." and that'd be ignoring the rarity of a REAL Katana, not a BudK catalog Katana you buy for 60 bucks) even though realistically they should be rusted hunks of metal crumbs (assuming they weren't replicas). More player crafted melee weapons would be welcome, but going all skyrim, finding deposits of undiscovered and unmined iron (and coal, I doubt you'll be able to smelt anything other than aluminum cans down with firewood) and making iron and steel daggers, swords, broadswords ect sounds like a step in the wrong direction. They have mentioned more advanced crafting in the future, bit it'll be along the lines of bringing a gas powered generator to a workshop to power the equipment, using a lathe to turn wood or metal, bandsaws to cut, ect ect. I could see doing simple forging to say melt down collected scrap metal and casting it into molds to make small parts or a blade, but not going as far as to make something as arduous as a Katana from melted down empty cans. -
why doesn't the bipod fit on the mosion?!
IkaikaKekai replied to GhostSlayer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
They had the Bipod on the mosin for testing purposes at first. This was back when there were like 3 guns. To add to gibonez remarks, sure we can bring up examples of top notch marksmen with confirmed kills in the high triple digits using a Mosin. This does not make the Mosin some sort of super weapon, but rather attests to the skills of the marksman, and the fact that once their skills were known, they were usually given better equipment or customized their equipment to be better than the standard issue off the factory line (Actual PU Mosins, as opposed a random bolt action given to a conscript). I'm sure if Simo Häyhä was handed a Tkiv 85 or a TRG he'd have a much higher kill count. -
If Aussies get cricket bats, I want to be able to add bone/teeth to them to craft a modern leiomano.

Assuming this doesn't get closed before I hit post. Personally I've not encountered any hackers (one possible death, but that could have easily been the 'building didn't load, fall to your death' glitch), though I do know there are hackers out there. Sounds like an 'easy' fix for this new system is to add something like a 'last attacked by' code to the log. That way they won't be able to 'play safe'. Also you should probably get better friends.

Hmm, maybe craft an improvised one from a raincoat as well?

not sure if my account has been hacked?
IkaikaKekai replied to zombieland78's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I've had the bike thing happen to me with different vehicles, that was the work of a script kiddie using a hack, that in itself is not a breech of your account. The Russian name is questionable, but someone hacking into your account and installing hacks on their end would not affect your computer. Hacks don't work that way. If in doubt change your passwords and such if you're worried. They may have just been trolling you but I haven't played the Mod in a LONG time. -
Beans for you sir. Though not all flareguns are 12gauge, I always thought we should be able to use the flare as a shotpistol. Since it's plastic they should make it so that using a 12 gauge in it will make it deteroiate very quickly, and a chance of exploding on you when it's at damage. To add further, could you load a flaregun into a shotgun and use a flare like that (I would imagine you could in break actions but want a yes or no from someone like Gews).

I wish to do as my ancestors did and use the bones of my enemies to craft fishhooks in order to steal the mana of my hated enemies. Or just so I can rock a necklace in game. See that? I made that from the last fresh spawn that tried to punch me in the back of the head and take my shit.

That...sounds like a VERY bad idea for the operator.

They're trying to keep the game as realistic as possible (within reason of course). Doing it the Fallout way where drinking a beer or bottle of whiskey would make you more personable, dumber, and stronger just doesn't fit in, especially since we don't have any sort of RPG like stat system. The devs have already said time and again that they're not gonna implement some sort of 'mental state' system to try and prevent KOS (I mean look at Prion Disease. How many posts of 'OMG WHY MY HANDS SHAKE AND DUDE LAUGH! CANT QUICKSCOPE!' did we have?). Certain drugs I can see making an appearance to act as medicine (with penalties), IE Pot being a slightly less effective painkiller, or being used to treat nausea. Although things like Meth being used to make you not hungry is not a good idea, Meth just makes you THINK your not hungry. That said we should stay away from the more 'headliner' drugs like Meth. Gives ammo to the anti-gamers (god forbid they give this game the same amount of 'scrutiny' as GTA. 'Rape Simulator' 'Torture Sim' 'Murder Sim' comes to mind).

...You do know we can do this already, right?

Hmm...crafted 'potato' guns could be useful. Craft one from a pipe, fuel it with spraypaint or something else flamable (gas, high proof alchol, no pouring Kvass down the tube and lighting it), load either a suitable peice of produce, a can of food or soda, or even rocks wadded with rags I mean at the very least you'd knock the target down if you didn't kill them.

Strange...I restarted after the patch to get things going. I did get stuffed quicker than normal but I did what I said. Took it slow, walked instead of sprinted, went away after a little bit, ate and drank a bit more, waited for it to go away, rinse, repeat. When I last logged out I was up to Dark Green on Hydration and Energy with no stuffed.
-
WALK around, (stop running and sprinting) you get less dehydrated and burn less calories walking. Sit down, read a book or something, if you're not as active your 'stuffed' will drop faster than your hunger/thirst. Be very careful with what you eat too, and as you say, unless your hungry and not stuffed don't eat all, a bag of rice will probably stuff you and make you thirsty. Unless you're dying of hunger/thirst and still stuffed, don't eat anything till stuffed disappears from your status.

Dunno about instant death with a headshot. While that thing could probably penetrate a skull it'd be more suited to piercing a heart IMO. Do like the idea about using it for cooking, kind of a deja vu thing. I was just looting earlier and passed up a thermometer, actually wondered if I could use it on cooked meat.

Well just wanted to start fresh with the new patch, and see if death fixed the no stone knife glitch.

Alpha... They'll work on it. Would you rather them add useless junk to zombies that disappear in 5 seconds anyway? Or work on more important things? Zombies in the Mod would spawn items rarely (usually canned goods on civies, medical stuff on doctors, or ammo on soldiers). When the new zombie system is put in place and they let the bodies persist I'm sure they'll start to work on zombie loot.

Tried it with a screwdriver and hunting knife. It went through the animation but wouldn't kill me when I clicked. I just added that for some reason the same server I couldn't craft a stone knife, though I could on another server (craft the knife, didn't try to kill myself)

Sorry, did indeed miss the handcar. Focused on the word Tram/Rail car and figured you meant something along the lines of an DMU or EMU. A hand/pump car would be doable IMO, but still I doubt it's high up on the Devs' list of things to do. I'm not sure if they were very popular outside of North America. It would still have the problems of being blocked by other things on the rails, although they're usually lightweight enough for the crew using it to derail, move pass the obstacle, and rerail. Now I have seen some rather interesting videos in Europe of a man 'rail surfing' using a wooden pallet and simple wheels on tramways and streetcar lines. That would be even lighter than even a simple handcar (though maybe not as simple to move) as you can literally pick it up and carry it. In the US we have handcars (obsolete and usually found on museum lines or in private hands) speeders (both antique and new) which are motorized, Hi-Rail equipped vehicles, or even modified road vehicles themselves (post D-day they used Jeeps fitted with flange wheels in French Trainyards to act as switchers). I do hope someday we'll have rail vehicles in SA, but only if they do it in a realistic manner. It urks me in game when I see errors when it comes to trains. European Buffers and equipment on whats suppose to be a North American Railroad, or knuckle couplers on European equipment. Much in the same way the Mosin being chambered for 7.62 NATO urks our gun lovers. Though so far what I've seen just from the right of way is satisfactory on BI's end (though there's a few glaring things like the grade being more like a rollercoaster in some areas)

The Search Function is your friend! Second, I wouldn't expect rail based vehicles for a while, Modding will probably be out before that then people will make working trains on their own. Third comes the box of needles directed at your balloon. If a train can get there, a person on foot can get there simply by following the tracks, this still applies to both tunnels and bridges. So no 'secret military bases' only accessible by train. What exactly do you picture when you think 'traincar/tram'? Do you think you're just gonna jump in the cab, turn the key and be on your way? Even modern locos don't start up with a turn of a key (there's usually a lot of switch and leaver flipping and buttons involved that all have to be done in the right order). There's a lot of things blocking the tracks in key points, locomotives, rollingstock, general debris, you'd need to be able to clear all of that to get around, especially if your using something bigger than a Speeder. Also how are you going to fuel it? An American GP9 (which looks similar to what is at least shown in Chenarus) has a fuel tank of around 1,100 gallons, with a similar loco burning around 159 gallons per hour (in 'balls out' mode). Your little 5 gallon jerry can will probably just be enough to get the engine to turn over. Trust me, I'm an Engineer Brakeman.

I wasn't able to commit suicide with a knife earlier either. Had the knife to my ear, clicked, nothing. pressed space and clicked, nothing. Also couldn't make a stone knife (Musty Gaming Server), the rock would just disappear after the animation finished.

Wish they would bring back not needing to hold an 'area' light source like chemlights or lanterns. They did used to do something similar in the mod 'everybody use blue chemlights' or something like that.

Don't be afraid of death, make Death afraid of you. To be on topic theres two or three I think. One between Kamenka and Komarovo, one at Cap Golova between Electro and Cherno, and possibly a third at Krutoy Cap. There may be others but I stay away from the coast as much as possible these days.
