Didn't they have some Zulta Cola or some drink like that shortly after release? Did it get removed?

I might name my gear, but that does not mean I get attached to it. Yes I will mourn the loss of Andy Woodax and Tommy Trumpet, but they are replaceable, I can either cry and rage in a forums where people will ridicule me or offer false sympathies, or I can get it over with, wake up on the beach and start over.

Well that'd be true if these are the 'bitey' type of zombies. These are more of the punchy type that occasionally bite. It's like chainmail and plate armor. Chainmail's good against stabs and slashes, against heavy blows, not so much. Plate's good against most heavy blows, but not well placed stabs. Make sure you're wearing the right mask when you do.

Don't get attached to the gear you collect, one way or another it won't be in your possession long.

Why would they be transporting an EOD suit/team via helicopter during a zombie outbreak? Many have already said above, it won't protect very well against bullets, it's slow, hot, and unless it comes with a powered exoskeleton, once you get swarmed/knocked down you're fucked. A suit of armor cannot protect against everything and still be viable to wear, otherwise we'd have soldiers in bombsuits on the front line, not relegating them to bomb disposal duty behind the lines or under heavy protection on the front.

Do the Russians even have EOD suits like that? Let me rephrase, would a backwater shithole like Chenarus have EOD suits like that?

sewer system and underground bases / labratorys + skill tree
IkaikaKekai replied to Yorkshirebasterd's topic in Suggestions
It is possible to have true 'under terrain' objects in the Arma engine (I think). There was a video that showed a map editor adding a manhole that lead to a simple sewer thing that went under the road. That might have been VBS though, and VBS is pretty fucking expensive. But they might be able to incorporate that (as well as actual flowing rivers) into the DayZ engine. -
Server names with "don't join" "unstable server" "character reset" etc
IkaikaKekai replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
More than possible, though if you feel like ruining their fun you can always report them, as public servers can't have names like that. -
Alcohol wont burn unless it's a high proof/high concentration. That and gas won't ignite itself either, neither will a molotov. Electricity should be a way to start fires, but obviously tazeing a piece of wood probably won't result in a fire. I think there should be things like fire bundles you can make, or long burning sources of fire that you can transfer to say a fireplace to start the fire. IE Flares, a candle, or the aforementioned fire bundle, so you can turn one match into a source of fire.

sewer system and underground bases / labratorys + skill tree
IkaikaKekai replied to Yorkshirebasterd's topic in Suggestions
They want to have underground areas to the game. Basebuilding, at least how Rocket described what he wanted before he left to do his own things, is intended to be done underground (actually instanced) so aside from an entrance way you won't see anything of the base above ground. That'll stop clusters of poorly attempted bases clogging up areas and taxing the server. Above ground bases will consist of barricading existing building and adding simple things like garden plots and such. That said, Chenarus is a pretty impoverished country, most of the towns have outhouses (even major cities usually have an outhouse or two in the suburbs). That doesn't strike me as having a very large or complex sewer system, much less one that interconnects cities and town (done Very rarely if at all in real life). Now say a realtively simple sewer system moving from one end of a city to another with maybe one or two brances and many entrances/exits so you could maybe get around Cherno or Electro without being tracked by a sniper or avoiding high concentration of zombies. But as for say climbing into the sewers at Kamenka, and climbing out of a manhole in Zelogorsk, not likely to happen. Bunkers are something of a 'well duh' considering it's a former Soviet state. Labs are somewhat more questionable. As for Skilltrees. I highly doubt we'll see it in the RPG sense where you can put points into lockpicking or gun handeling. They want more of a hidden skills system that you can't look up and similar to Skyrim's mechanic. IE the more you do something the better you'll be at it, keep reloading your gun and you'll get slightly faster at it, bandage yourself or others often and you'll be better at first aid (apply faster, use less material). The way it's been explained (and as far as I understand it) death will reset these skills, so you won't be able to grind out a perfect character over your many lives. -
And if you do...your kind of a horrible human being.

Fixed that for you, though my knowledge of European railways is pretty slim.

Never tried waterproofing anything with beeswax, though I would think you could do it with just the wax. Might need to apply a 'fresh coat' every now and then.

Also forgot to mention that the grubs and larve are good nutrition wise too. Not a very filling, but still. Couple things should affect 'sting chance' as well, like how it is in real life. Harvesting at night would be a VERY bad idea, all the bees are in the hive rather than only about a third during the day. This also applies to stormy/rainy weather. Bees also don't like dark clothing (why most beesuits are white) or dark hair, reminds them a bit of their natural predators, skunks, bears, and honeybadgers, ect. Making candles would be good as a survival tool. Provides some heat, will also help to get a fire going and provide light. Think of it as a VERY long buring match. Light the candle (can also make a survival candle by pouring the wax into a container such as a glass jar with a wick) and you can use that instead of matches for as long as it lasts.

Speaking as a beekeeper. Those 'cartoony' ones are called Skep hives. Beekeeping or even just adding honey and wax to foraging would be good IMO. There's so many uses for honey and wax that I'd probably reach some sort of text limit on the post. Collecting it would be the problem, if you do it wrong you'll be getting stung. I personally do my beekeeping without a suit, but I'm being taught by what I would consider a grand master. Use of smoke is a must, we sometimes put a firebucket upwind of the hives in addition to our smokers. Not smashing any bees is another must (they send off an alarm pheromone upon death or when they sting, which prompts the rest to go apeshit). I'd say a smoker of some type (weather an actual beekeeper's smoker or a bundle of sticks and leaves on fire) to reduce the chance of stings, and protective clothing to further reduce the chance of stings. The puffer jacket and gloves would be a good choice in terms of what we already have, along with some sort of headgear, like the motor helmet or crafting something with a veil. You'd also need some sort of tool like a crowbar to pry into a man made hive (bees seal them with propolis, it's very sticky shit) as well as a knife to cut out the comb. A wild hive would be probably more protected than a manmade hive and harder to get into, and you'll probably piss off the bees in the process of getting into it. Still I think both manmade and natural hives should be around. You'd get a honeycomb and would have to squeeze/uncap it into a container to honey, and you'd get the wax as a 'waste' product. And yes, royal jelly is FUCKING awesome.

Yes it does. There's been many many topics and suggestions on rail vehicles, from the ridiculous idea of fully automated trains picking up new spawns with NPC conductors protecting the train, down to the humble pump car or 'rail skateboard' I mentioned earlier. This is the said handcar from the above post. Those handholds on the end that make it look like a stretcher are for the crew to use to de/rerail. I use one very similar, I usually stand in the middle when I take visitors out on it so I can work the foot brake without breaking my leg from the pump handles going up and down, also when I'm solo on one so I can easily look in whatever direction I'm going (as well as so I wont pop a wheelie). And you can get some pretty decent speed on it (the faster you go the easier it is to maintain speed). Raced our train once while on a siding to 'show off' for the passengers, matched speed and was almost passing it before I had to hit the brakes. Granted it was against a switcher with a max speed of 15mph that was slowing down to come into the station but still pretty impressive considering I was solo and am out of shape.

why doesn't the bipod fit on the mosion?!

SACRILEGE! -
An interesting concept to say the least, but the Karma system failed horribly in the mod (for the most part) and I don't think they'd manage to do much better in SA. I do see some flaws with your 'plan'. The prisoner uniforms we have now are better than the clothes we spawn with (more slots, slightly better protection), so it'd be like in the Mod, people doing 'bad shit' to get an awesome camouflaged skin. That and as the others have mentioned you can pretty much replace it right off the bat with other clothing, and now they won't be able to tell you did anything. It might actually encourage people to hunt down newspawns.

What are these green markers on GPS?
IkaikaKekai replied to selfcommander's topic in New Player Discussion
Judging from the DayZDB map for the mod (haven't played in ages) I would say they're suppose to be rock outcroppings or some such, not a peak. Since your standing right next to one and there's no cliff (doesn't' show up on the DayZDB map either but the GPS is suppose to be more accurate), as far as I can tell you're near black mountain, but nowhere near the summit. Maps will usually have the elevation of the peak next to the symbol. -

Cannot use an improvised suppressor with a mosin compensator
IkaikaKekai replied to trev186's topic in General Discussion
YES IT IS WIDER THAN THE BARREL! How do you think it fits OVER the barrel?! *facepalm* Okay...let me try something else. You have a dog. You replace the dog's natual teeth with titanium ones so he can bite intruders harder. You keep the dog muzzled at all times so he doesn't bite anyone. The dog is a mosin, the titanum teeth is the compensator, the muzzle is a suppressor. You just wasted around $800 per tooth for something that's not gonna be used. -

IkaikaKekai replied to trev186's topic in General Discussion
Are you that dense? What would be the point? If you have the compensator IN the suppressor it WONT WORK AS INTENDED! And that's assuming that you could fit the compensator into the bottle. -
Cannot use an improvised suppressor with a mosin compensator
IkaikaKekai replied to trev186's topic in General Discussion
That's not how a compensator works. You can't just 'move it down' the barrel. It's made to go at the very end of the barrel, and actually hang off slightly, and it vents the exhaust gasses in such a way that it helps 'compensate' for recoil (thus the name). The same reason you can't use the Mosin bayonet at the same time is because there's no room for it to attach on to. A suppressor goes at the end of the barrel and allows the gasses to expand and cool so there isn't a loud 'bang' when it exits the barrel/suppressor. If you have a compensator on the gases exit the gun before they go into the suppressor and you get that loud bang anyway, if you have the suppressor covering the compensator won't work anyway. I would imagine even if you had a purpose built suppressor and tried to put a compensator on the end of that it wouldn't work very well (if at all). THAT is why you can't have a compensator and suppressor at the same time. They counter each other out.
