You use what's readily available. IE Daesh (ISIS hates that name so I use it) using OUR Humvees that we gave to the Iraqis. Before the war I would imagine that Russia was more than willing to sell Chenarus pretty much anything they could afford. Now that you said that, it would make more sense to start seeing Humvees around post war, being on cool terms with their major weapons supplier. Weapons systems are a bit harder to replace than vehicles, as what are you going to do with your stockpiles of AKs, 7.62x39,54r, 5.45, ect. They could even be doing a Finland, where they have their own variants of Russian weapons and most (not all, think their SpecFor adopted a 5.56 rifle recently) of their weapons using 7.62x39 and 54r so they can use captured Russian supplies. I mean shit the Chinese PLA are making their versions of Humvees, mostly with American imported parts but they're slowly making their own engines and replacement parts.

They're just wrecks, leftover game assets from Arma2 and the mod. They could be explained away as US military surplus sold to CDF after the war (The US sells off a lot of it's equipment rather than shipping it back), or even purchased by CDF before the war (unlikely being closer to Russia and a former Soviet State they'd probably stick to whats closer and what they know). It'd be tedious to go and replace every Humvee wreck already in the game with a UAZ wreck durring alpha.

The timeline hasn't really been fleshed out yet, but I think the majority consensus is that it does take place after the events of Arma2 (one of the devs said it's at least 2013 in DayZ, possibly later). One theory is that it's in it's own timeline where Red Harvest never occurred, which would explain a lack of Foreign (non CDF) forces in Chenarus aside from helicopter crashes. The other way to explain that is that US and Russian forces left after the crises was over (with the US selling some of their equipment as par the course, explaining the Humvees, and the CDF already uses a majority of Soviet/Russian equipment anyway).

Being able to wash the pan would be good too, especially when diseases are added.

For number 2, players are immune to the zombie virus, it has been confirmed that we will/may get infections from zombies, but it will not be the zombie virus itself. The infections we get will be things like dysentery, cholera, typhoid, ect.

Still, I don't know if you puke often, but it's not something one would do as a defense mechanism (against prey/predators that is, puking is actually one means of expelling toxins/poisons). If someone is feeling sick enough to throw up, they're more than likely not going to be chasing someone and use their puke as an attack. They're going to run, stop suddenly or stumble (at the very least slow down) and throw up, and depending on how badly they're sick, continue running. Assuming you're unluckly enough to get puked on by a sick zombie, it's not an instant infection unless you have open wounds or they get it into an orifice, you'll need to clean your gear and your body. Diseases and such will be added in, and getting infected from zombies will be a real threat. Not in the Walking Dead 'we need to amputate NOW' sense, but the 'fuck, now I've got dysentery' sense. Kids won't be added in if for no other reason than to make the censors happy. Fat people, I too would like to see them added in, they reason that I know of is that you can't simply make a fat person and put it on the same skeleton as the 'skinny' zombies, it'll just look awkward. They'ed have to make a new skeleton for them and more mocapping for animations. That said I don't think they'ed be more durable than the average zombie or be any stronger.

You were talking about heavily armed and armored aircraft taking on equally armed and armored helicopters. What else is one suppose to think? Also 'making' a fighter aircraft out of a Cessna and a GPMG or HMG would be rather foolish. You can't mount it on the fuselage because of the propeller (WW1 fighters had interrupters to prevent them from shooting out their own props, good luck trying to make one from scratch) the wings would really be the only good place to mount it, but now you have to mount something that's not aerodynamic onto a wing, and counterbalance it weight wise on the other wing, and you need some (reliable) way to FIRE the thing. A work around would be to mount it like a door gun, but that won't make it a fighter of any sort, it's an attack craft. And again, good luck landing and hiding that thing you just spent a shit load of time getting to work. There's been many times in the mod I've landed a heli (in what I thought was a good location) and logged out, only to come back and find a dead player, a destroyed shell of a helicopter, and a crater just 50 feet from my camp. Hours to days of hard work ruined in seconds. Again, we will see aircraft in this game, but I don't see them going above small single engine props (possibly a twin engine Civilian cargo/passenger plane), helicopters might be the execption, but I doubt we'll see anything heaiver than an unarmed Mi8/Mi17. Something along the lines of a Bell 47 (Russian/Soviet equivalent of course) or say a coast guard SAR heli would be the more common find.

Another one of these... Okay to start off, the zombies we face are not undead, they're living infected, rabid human beings, so no special powers where they can spit acid or bile, or blow up when they take damage, or suddenly become superhuman in terms of reflexes or senses. Players will not reanimate when they're killed, for one we're immune to the zombie virus, and again, zombies are not dead type, so dead = dead. Pay attention to the posts the devs make rather than just cherry pick what you want to hear. Zombies will go through a 'lifecycle' when the new AI and systems are put in, where say 90% of the zombies spawned will be 'healthy', upright and the most dangerous, the remaining will be crippled in some fashion, broken leg or spinal injuries which cause them to crawl or 'hop' like in the mod. Healthy zombies will more than likely 'degrade' as time goes on, so a runner might turn into a hopper or if they run into a player and the player shoots them in the leg to get away they'll be a crawler until they die. I would hope that some sort of simple hunger and thrust mechanic is made for the zombies as well, so they'll seek out food and water, as well as be more aggressive/less effective when hungry/thirsty and if they don't get their needs met they'll eventually die on their own. And on the other side of the coin, a zombie that has recently fed might be more content/less aware of players and not as likely to hunt a player down for miles. This'll make hunting and gathering water a bit more dangerous IMO, as zombies would be drawn to water sources (rivers, ponds, ect, maybe even pumps if they make them a little smarter) and might pollute them someway or another, as well as go after the limited wildlife.

I think you misread what DayZ is going to be. It's not going to be Arma with Zombies sprinkled ontop. We're not going to see jet aircraft or attack helicopters, we're not going to see Main Battle Tanks or Infantry Fighting Vehicles, we'd be lucky if we see armored cars with a LMG mounted on them.. Why would you even need a MIG in the zombie apocalypse? So you can kill fellow survivors with total superiority and almost total immunity? The resources required to get a fighter repaired (much less refueled) would outweigh any benefit to having it. A single engine prop plane has more uses and would be easier to repair and maintain and be far more useful.

Wouldn't we more likely see SA-16 or 18s?

It's more just a mater of time before they add fixed wing aircraft to Standalone. Although I think aside from small craft I don't think they'ed really fit on the current map. Yes the map has gotten bigger but even in the Mod the map got awfully small with a helicopter. Never got behind the controls of the biplane but I would think planes would be very limited in their usefulness. There are 3 dedicated airfields (a possible 4th if they're still adding Utes), and sure there's a lot of places where you could land even a c130 safely, but I can really only see airplanes being useful to groups, and even then their usefulness will be limited compared to say even a small unarmed helicopter, doing recon would require the pilot to do circles around the area. Evac requires a suitable area to land, and I assume doing airdrops of any kind (personnel or supplies) would require parachutes to be looted. That said I do see at least one plane being added to game, but I don't think we'll be seeing large military aircraft added to Vanilla standalone.

I do like the idea of more weapons mods and even more stocks for different weapons. But I would have to agree with Gibonez, I don't really see these being very common in Chenarus. I would also think that the people who would have these types of rifles would not be the type to spend money to import a polymer tactical stock when they're probably using either rifle for hunting and was probably passed down through the family. That and I don't think they'ed just have them laying around in a warehouse, nor would I think Special Forces teams (of Western or Eastern Origin) would have them on their choppers. Now if there was an 'ConMag' or 'BUMPCO' factory or some other local workshop that was making weapons mods I could see them adding similar things, like how we have the CR-75 instead of the CZ-75. EDIT also the 7.62x54r mistake was more of a design choice. They were adding 7.62x51 rifles, and rather than have just one weapon use the 54r they decided for gameplay reasons to just 'make' the mosin 51. When more 54r weapons are added (Dragnov, I'm assuming the PKP at some point, even maybe the Winchester 1895 if they want to add another leaver action) they'll 'bring back' the 54r round.

This has to deal with doors and i'm surprised not a soul has mentioned it..
IkaikaKekai replied to Scarcifer's topic in Suggestions
That is a pretty good idea, especially when barricading and base building comes into play. I don't think all doors would have peepholes in chenarus (apartments would be the most likely) and some businesses. If we could install peepholes or make view slots that would be pretty cool for barricading. You could hold up in an apartment building on the top floor and have your 'trading post' up there. Tell people they need to have their guns down and hands up before you'll open the door for them. -
They're small offices. I don't know why people started calling them schools, as there's no student desks (unless the teachers lied to me and said that a 30+ classroom was considered 'small').

They're both. They're crazy and attack anything that moves, and once they kill their target they start to eat, or at least thats the intent. They've done some mocap where the actor was playing a zombie 'eating' from a body. Granted zombies right now are placeholder at best and will be replaced (Soon from the sounds of it), they even talked about zombie 'life cycles', to my understanding it'd be that all zombies start out healthy and strong, and as time goes on they degrade or get injured and their injuries show, IE if you shoot a zombie in the leg to get away he'll turn into a crawler, as they age they'll turn into hoppers, ect and eventually die. I would hope that they become smart enough to seek out food and water rather than just amble around and attack like they do now.

Tents and Camps that can be locked to the server
IkaikaKekai replied to acunningone's topic in Suggestions
The intention is for tents to be permanent, or mostly permanent. Tents are wiped weekly because of stability issues, once those issues are solved tents won't be wiped regularly.- 1 reply

I'd go with the backpack as well. If you know you're about to go into combat 'close' your other clothes so you won't have to scroll as far down and keep the ammo near the top of the bag.

What can be done about ghosting on public servers?
IkaikaKekai replied to gankaskon's topic in General Discussion
I see shovels in this thread's future. -
Yes, what's also sadly true is that this topic will either be locked, or merged with a lock topic, as actual discussions can no longer take place on this forum. Hackers will keep making hacks till Script Kiddies no longer pay money for them, or until they get bored and move onto other things. Just as the Devs will keep patching and patching until all the servers shut down permanently. Quite a Sisyphean task on both ends. And now I think it's time I go to bed, as I am using terms like Sisyphean correctly. Or at least I think correctly, I am rather sleep deprived after all.
-
Don't think they stopped or claimed to have stopped any particular type of hack, but they are making it harder and harder to get away with it. Hacking will NEVER go away, it'll ebb and flow like all things, but never disappear entirely. Patch a hole in the wall and they'll make another one, reinforce the wall and they'll dig under it, make the wall deeper and they'll jump over it. So on and so forth.

I think you already can use roadflares to start fires. Some survival guides even suggest having a chopped down flare (with the chopped end being sealed with something like wax for waterproofing). Using a signal flare fired from a flaregun sounds like a bad idea IMO, that thing's got a bit of power behind it. Now using the actual signal flare to start a fire would be good if you could ignite it without igniting the propellant that might be better.

What can be done about ghosting on public servers?
IkaikaKekai replied to gankaskon's topic in General Discussion
What do you want me/the devs to do about it? Personally go to the ghoster's house and shoot them in the back of the head? Much as I'd like to do that, I don't get paid enough to do so. I probably gave you the only advice that wasn't 'play on a private server' -

IkaikaKekai replied to gankaskon's topic in General Discussion
Be more aggressive/alert? Players already stay in for about 30 seconds after they log out, and there's a login penalty if you log on to a different server than the one you just did within so many minuets. I forget what the penalty is but you have all that time to rush/check their position and see if they've left or not. If you see them sitting down, shoot them in the head as they've logged out. If they're gone from a building you're sure you trapped them in, scatter and get ready to get ghosted. -
The best answer I got from one of the devs was his best guess was we were in 2013. Or at least thats when the outbreak happened. So no 2015 Skodas sorry to say.

OP...suits like your describing do not exist outside of video games, especially if they're 'not bomb suits' as you claim. You're not going to find a suit like that sitting on a military base or a police station. The devs are trying for realism (or authenticity, I forget what code word they used last). Yes that's kind of a silly thing in a zombie survival game, but at least the zombies (as intended) are possible in real life (even though not likely to happen). Guy makes a suit that can survive a bear attack in his garage? Yeah, ONE prototype (in Oregon I might add), spray em with an AK or set him on fire and see how long that lasts. Russians equipped with heavy bullet resistant helmets? Again, set them on fire or sneak up on them with a knife and see how long that lasts. Guy robbing a bank with a stolen EOD suit? Ram him with a car and see if he gets up and you're a cop and there's probably news crews around recording so you can't really set him on fire... Let me put it to you this way: Pros: Being slightly harder to kill with a gun or melee weapon Cons: Having to make one from scratch; not being able to go faster than a walk; not being able to carry much; limited vision; limited hearing; limited dexterity; not being able to get up if knocked down; being highly likely to suffer from heat exhaustion/hypertherima; and many more. I see a LOT of things there that's counterproductive to surviving on that list. EDIT: To add on to that since your last post, say you did have this mythical suit and you were rolling around with your team. Are they gonna wait for your slow ass to get to the airstrip? The squad is only as fast as its slowest member, even if you're using a truck to get around you still need to get out and waddle with the ground pounders. And if I saw a guy in heavy armor in a group, I'd pick off the guys not in armor and sneak away into the tree line, leaving armor boy all by himself in the middle of an airfield.
