I think roadflares (possibly flaregun flares too) can be used to start fires. But yes we do need more means of starting fires. A lighter(s), two sticks, flint and steel, steel wool and a battery, a friggen magnifying glass. Think there's even a video of someone starting a fire with a (full) PET bottle and some paper. It'd also be nice if we could make fire bundles and the like as well. Also you can use guts as a substitute for rope, at least for crafting. Not only that but they can double as a heatpack in a pinch.

Stuffed isn't that big a deal, but stop when you get it to orange. Generally speaking unless your dashing around everywhere your 'stuffed-ness' will decrease faster than your hydration and energy. Just make sure you're drinking high hydration/high energy food/drink or both. Canned Peaches are probably the best food to eat, highest calories and hydration per serving. DayZ wiki shows all the foods, drinks, their calories and hydration amounts, as well as their 'fulfillment' values. Not sure if its an error on the wiki, but water from PET bottles seam to be less 'filling' than drinking straight from the tap while at the same time providing more overall hydration (I wouldn't take mine or the wiki's word for that though).

Just a thought. I can think of a couple of reasons to add food recipes to the game. A warm meal can help warm you up on a cold day/night. You could have more calories in a more compact package. IE my stuffed peppers idea. You'd have a serving of steak, rice, and peppers in a 1x1 slot. If they ever make some sort of 'mental' health stat, a warm 'prewar' meal would be a mental boost.

Cook some rice (add drippings from the meat for extra flavor) then mix with the meat, dole out into bell peppers (with the tops and seeds cut out), sprinkle with 'cheese' made from powdered milk or tactical bacon bits, replace the tops and consume. Well my brother's computer went tits up almost a month ago now. I've been trying to help him get it back up and running. My knowledge of hardware is limited but it's more than his and he refuses to pay someone from geeksquad $150 just to look at it. Oh well, down to brass tacks. A couple months back he was getting black screen of death, fixed that. Swapped out his GPU for a spare I had, seamed to fix it. Around the start of march same thing, BSOD and then it wouldn't boot at all. Thought it was the GPU again (was a refurbished model I put in) so he ordered a cheep one to replace. No joy. After digging around in tutorials to solve the noboot I got it working after removing 2 of his ram sticks (all 4 worked but the 1&3 slots did not work and gave me post errors). Finally got it working to BlackSOD (which was an improvement). Wiped it back to factory and got it back running. Installed all updates and AV for him, then i tried putting his graphics card back in. No joy, BSOD again. Unplug it and power on again, worked fine. I install the drivers on the disk just incase it was that, then plugged it back in, no joy once more, BSOD even after removing the card. Trying to get it to a restore point as I type. So I figure it that the MoBo is dying (got a replacement lined up for $70), Dimm 1 & 3 not working, and the PCIE slot not working either. An idea struck me that it could be his powersupply slowly dying instead of the MoBo. Sadly I don't have a spare PSU to test this, was gonna remove mine temporarily to test everything on his, but I have to work today and don't have the time to do so. Was wondering if there's any cheep and fast means to test if its the MoBo or the PSU? Any other thoughts on the matter would help. Dell XPS 8300 I7 8GB Ram (normally) Windows 7.

Pretty much given up on the thing and RMAed the new MoBo. As I said it's functional with 2 sticks of ram and no GPU card. My brother decided to save up for a new comp and my dad's gonna 'buy' his old one since it'll be better than what he has. Was going to take it out into a field with a golf club but I'll be content for it to sit on a shelf and choke on dust whenever he wants to check his email. I've cleaned it all throughout the entire process. I might try the memtest just in case I can just get new cheep RAM for it.

Most foods provide at least a little bit of hydration as well as energy. Weird thing is Sodas provide slightly more energy than hydration. So far the only things that don't provide hydration as well are bags of rice and powdered milk, they actually dehydrate you a little. Could be the values got tweaked the wrong way, we could have a smaller hydration stat than an energy stat, which is why it's 'filling up' quicker. Or it could be simply intended.

Player zombies not gonna happen. It goes against the lore, and they also won't do it for gameplay reasons as well as engine limitations. We will get infections and sick from zombies, but it won't be the zombie virus itself. We'll catch things like cholera and dysentery. From what I know we might be able to strip/loot zombies in the future, but to safely wear any gear you'll have to disinfect it first (people can even leave 'trapped' gear, say a couple raincoats smeared with infected blood in a high traffic area). Repairing a power gird is VERY tedious and hard work, not to mention keeping it running. One blown transformer can fuck all the systems till it's fixed. I highly doubt we'll be able to get the power grid up and running, though if we do it'll be endgame and take the effort of the entire server, not just one or two groups, and by that I mean bandits will have to agree not to fuck with the power (and possibly even protect it) in exchange for powering their base or supplies. On a scaled down system, generators and other means of power are pretty much all but confirmed.

Always possible it was a script kiddie. From what I'm told there's scripts that can hide them from the player list as well as make them invisible. Now that I potentially doomed this to a locked thread there are other possibilities as well, most of them glitches, and without hearing more details it'll be hard to say exactly how you died. Dieing 10 seconds after spawn is rather suspicious. I do think Heart Attacks are still in game, yet to experience one myself (never experienced a hacker myself either but they do exist). Did a bit of quick reading on DayZ Wiki, seams heart attacks can only occur during unconsciousness and is random.

We don't need a sleep mechanic, we are our own sleep mechanic. Time is currently set to one real hour = an in game hour, so if someone's been playing for 36 hours straight they're the one going to suffer, not only physically but in game as well. You'll be tired, you won't notice that wookiee sneaking up behind you, ect.. Yes eventually private hive/server owners will be able to tweak time settings so that you can make a day be 6 hours (and split up day and night however you want). The sleep mechanic works in Fallout because its a single player game where you can skip ahead in time (and also has accelerated time as well), rather than an online game where you'll be starring at a black screen for an hour (or however long) while you 'sleep'.

I'm aware of that, I was wondering if there was a 'plausible' way to mod a normal 10/22 into a Takedown. I glanced at a news post on a firearms blog about someone making kits to turn your 10/22 into a takedown but have been away from the internet for a few days so I didn't get a chance to look at it better. As far as I know whether or not we get seasons (as in snow on the ground) we will have seasonal temperatures. IE it will get VERY cold on public servers around December/January in real life, and very hot in July/August. I think Private Shards will be able to set the 'season' to their liking. Now that said, in theory they could make 2-3 more maps to represent each season, but I would think they'ed be a bit of work as it wouldn't be just replacing the grass texture with a snow texture, and make the water solid. They'ed have to do a LOT of details across the entire map. If they did that they could 'switch out' the maps whenever there's a season change. But this is coming from someone with almost no programming knowledge so take it with a grain of salt.

Didn't mean that but that'd be sweet too. Was talking about the Takedown Version of the 10/22 so we can take it apart and store it like the trumpet.

Well that would require more than just a hacksaw. You'd pretty much need to be a gunsmith (With the right or close to right tools for it to work. I do like the idea of being able to cut down more weapons, and maybe when we get advanced crafting we can make AK pistols and the like. I'd also be curious if we could do some other type of gunsmithing as well with existing and future guns, like turning the Sporter into a Takedown.

A scary thought comes to mind: I wounder how many people have tried this in real life?

-Update- Back to square one, installed new MoBo and the FUCKING monitor keeps going to fucking sleep...which is what I should do... I've tested it with a larger power supply on the old MoBo, same problem. I've swapped out (now 3, stupidly threw away 2 thinking they might have both gone bad) GPUs, same problem. I've swapped around the ram over and over, I need to do further ram related tests in the morning.

I'll make one out of nails, copper wiring, and a Skoda.

Airconditoners, electric kettle, minifridge? Holy shit this is gonna be sweet when we have persistent barricading.

-Update- Swapped out the powersupply and plugged everything back in, POST came back with a RAM issue, removed the sticks from the offending slots, tried again, no POST and the old 'Moniter going to sleep' issue. Removed the GPU and she booted right up. Mobo is the issue here, thanks for the input, gonna be buying a refurbished Mobo for my brother.

Gaming and porn mostly. He's had more than one virus. The only upgrade he's done was actually done by me (the first GPU replacement). And I agree wholeheartedly about shelf comps, the last one I had before I got fed up and built my own, I took it to a pro to get it looked at to see how I could upgrade it as well as clean it and it was pretty much a pos comp, one of the main selling points was this 'pocket drive' bullshit and that thing wasn't even hooked up, I also had a wireless antenna but no drivers or connection to that either. This comp is on his last legs for him, anything he buys for it now is just to last him till he saves up to (have me) build his own. After that it'll be retired to my dad, get some extra hard drives put in as well as a sound card for a nice stereo system so he can play music on it. Not too good with the DVOM my dad has, never have been. What I'm probably going to do is pull out my PSU, plug it into his mobo and drives, replace the ram and the GPU and if it works after that I'll tell him to buy a new PSU. But that's going to wait till morning when my mind's fresh. For now at least it's functional, he can go on the internet and maybe play a couple simple games, and not go stir crazy.

On the subject, I know they added the AK101, is it a crashsite only (east or west) or does it spawn at any military site? If its found anywhere that can be evidence that they're 'Westernizeing' their military along with Humvee wrecks.
