AK Operator: Mud counts as lube right?

I'm on a hunger strike until the new stable branch is released.
IkaikaKekai replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Three weeks without food. Although from personal experience I'd say it can be more like 3 months. -
If your that worried about it, go to the ocean, hold it in your hands, and press and hold your throw button.

That's the goal, but I wouldn't leave your tent down till 58, or 59. From what I gather in .58 stable they'll have a flat lifetime of 45 days because that feature is not working quite yet, they hope to have it working before the 45 days are up and it'll be reduced to 7 days. I'm just curious as to if the tents and their contents will start to decay after that 7 days of inactivity or if they'll just go poof right on day 7. Or rather how exactly it's suppose to work.

There was a video on here of someone who either ran across someone trying to act like a zombie, or a Youtuber trolling by trying to act like a zombie. Pretty sure the result was "Friendly, friendly...Dude...what the fuck are you doing?" "RawrarwraharahImahzombie!Rarwrarwerar." "Seriously dude? *AK Burst*"

I gotta ask...why? The example you show is either longer or the same size as an AK. What would it add if it was in game? A different looking AK that needs new animations. Maybe it'd be slightly shorter for storage reasons. Would there really be a bunch of these laying around Chenarus?

This...they could have also been destroyed by rioters or whatever sort of insurgency was left after the war. There's a military convoy that's destroyed to the north (heading towards Russia), could be said that it was the local military garrison disobeying orders and trying to flee the quarantine (if there was one) and was destroyed by CDF forces attempting to keep the quarantine or by the Russians trying to do the same. They could have been destroyed as a preventive measure or SOP, worried that the outbreak might be contained and now there's a bunch of tanks and armored vehicles unaccounted for in the hands of angry civilians/rebels. The lack of 'decay' could also be explained that the event just happened so fast there wasn't truly time to mount a response of any meaning. Then again there's mixed signs about, Vehicles being 'decayed' to a point you would expect that YEARS have passed since the incident, whereas we've been told that time hasn't passed that quickly since the outbreak ended (think it's been said we're as close to a few days to weeks after the collapse). For all we know it could have taken a year or two from Z(ombie) Day to get to Day Z(ero) Then again remember that this game is nowhere near finished, it's just barely nearing the end of Alpha stage. We also don't really know WHAT happened other than Zombie outbreak infested the entire world, and there's only 2% of the world's population left alive (EDIT: AND uninfected. We must remember that the 'zombies' are technically alive...). And they do add in more 'flair' with each patch. Mass graves, overturned buses, other such things.

Not a bug, a feature. Get used to it or ask Steam for a refund.

winter clothing = some snow areas in the future?
IkaikaKekai replied to Bsur's topic in General Discussion
Was gonna say just by the texture itself it was a bug. If they were going to test 'snow' they wouldn't be that cheap and have just a blank white texture. They'ed recycle an old texture or have one of their guys who are in essence doing nothing to help with the current build make one. Like how when they don't have a gun they need to add in to the next patch they're working on their own little projects fo what they'ed like to add in, IE the Red 9 or the M1 Garand Models. -
winter clothing = some snow areas in the future?
IkaikaKekai replied to Bsur's topic in General Discussion
Hmm, might be possible but I still think it's a glitch because it just looks like a blank texture rather than a 'snow' texture. There's also the fact that it's perfectly edged and 'in the middle' of the map in what looks like a depression rather than up on a mountain top or the top of the map. The would also more than likely tell us that 'hey guy's we're working on a snowy area, go to (coordinates) and check it out, tell us what you think. It does tell me that a lot of things would still work if they just did a 'cheat' to add seasons by texturing the map, IE footsteps and roads, and for the most part it would look alright. -
winter clothing = some snow areas in the future?
IkaikaKekai replied to Bsur's topic in General Discussion
Textureing snow isn't the problem. The problem would be dynamic snow. IE Grass is green, starts to snow, and now the grass is covered with snow. Unlike Namalisk where it has VERY high mountains on an island way up north, Chenarus doesn't have mountains that are high enough that snow would form on the tops while it's summer/fall down bellow. Therefor there wouldn't be 'snowy areas' in Chenarus unless it was winter, and most if not all of the map would be covered in snow. -
Enfusion + VBS3 = Winning?
IkaikaKekai replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I believe the reason why it won't work is because VBS3 is now owned by a separate company and is VERY expensive, used mostly by Governments and Militaries for simulation. Now they probably could use bits and pieces in Enfusion, but we won't know till they tell us or do it. -
winter clothing = some snow areas in the future?
IkaikaKekai replied to Bsur's topic in General Discussion
Just because it exists does not mean it HAS to be useful right this moment. AFAIK there's no difference between 'warmness' of the hunter pants, (IE Winter pants being warmer than summer pants) it's all purely cosmetic differences. It's been said in the past, seasons will be more of it'll be cold in the game when it's winter IRL, hotter during the summer, ect. I think the only way we'll get 'snowy' areas is if they make retextures of the current map for each season that they change out when it gets to be that time of the year. Keep in mind we'll eventually be able to dye clothing, I can imagine when that patch comes out they'll set 'non camo' clothing to have a very high spawn rate (including the 'useless' winter hunter pants). -
winter clothing = some snow areas in the future?

And what does it have to do for Pink clothes to be camo? EDIT: JK, if I remember correctly the British Army experimented with pink camo for desert warfare. Something about pink not registering to the eye in those conditions. -
Will single player support bandit AI?
IkaikaKekai replied to BuldozerX86's topic in General Discussion
I'd say highly unlikely. There is always the possibilities of modders making them for single player and multiplayer. -
I see it as a possible source of tools and parts. One idea I have that if we could repair or power pump houses is we could use it as another source of water (at the pump house) or a means of filling a large tank of water quickly (say a Ural tanker to take back to your base). Repairing them to bring water to the buildings of an area might be an idea, but sounds more endgame-ish, would be cool to repair one and have access to water in the building you've chosen as your base, and of course I see the negatives as well, someone poisoning the water for an area via the pumphouse.

swords, smithing, furnace, melee and ragnar
IkaikaKekai replied to Wookieenoob's topic in Suggestions
To chime in again, the idea of creating more weapons is not what I'm against. I'm against the Warcraft/Minecraft/Skyrim idea that one person with a pickax can just find untapped sources of iron in a developed country. Most surface deposits of Iron (aside form bogiron which I'm unsure would exist or not in Chenarus) have been tapped out years ago, in a country like Chenarus, that was a member of the Soviet Union, any surface resource of something like Iron would have been gone long ago, there MIGHT be a mine or two that was active before ZDay, but I would think that would be a dangerous undertaking (Zombies in the mines, cave ins, gas buildups, poor air quality, ect ect) and not worth going in there to make a sword. As suggested before, smelting scrap metal, or reforging items that already exist, might be a better idea. I just don't think we should go the route of so many other games, where you can make a fully functional AK by pouring molten iron into a mold and waiting 20 seconds. Now making crude parts/weapons out of scrap metal might be a better deal, IE make some broadheads for arrows, a metal blade (as a knife or other crafting components) or even simple car parts (and I do mean simple) -
don't we have cattle prods and stun batons already?

You view your digital non-existent gear in a video game on the same level as your flesh and blood? Someone needs to sort out priorities.

To be honest, I don't think we really need a sleep mechanic for the game, real life does this for us IMO. We already have a sort of rest mechanic, though it is very early/placeholder. If your running around sprinting and try to shoot your aim will be shaky at best. To go back to my first point, the requirement to sleep is unnecessary for this game. For the most part time is 1:1 (though there will be the option to accelerate time for private servers), so if someone plays for 24 hours without rest they're going to suffer the effects in game (and out). Logging out should be considered as sleep in game. Then there's the other side to consider, people aren't going to play if they need to be sleeping in game to recover, it'll be not only boring but chase away the people who have a very limited time to play the game. Now if they were to add a sleep mechanic, I think it should be considered more of a 'buff' than a requirement. IE interacting with a bed, tent, or sleeping bag will increase your rate of healing and decrease your thirst and hunger rates. Logging out in this state will still allow you to heal while offline (at a HIGHLY reduced rate, but better than nothing) rather than just 'pausing' your character till you log in. That way after your big PVP or mishap with some zombies you can drag your broken legs to a house, set up a 'camp' for the night, eat, start a fire, get warm, drink, bandage yourself and lay down before you log out, so while you're at school, or sleeping in real life you'll be slowly recovering health. It wouldn't be much but it'd be better than logging out near dead with broken legs and arms, only to log back in and go, "Oh right...F12." Not to say they should make it like Rust or ARK where when you log out anyone can come by and smash your head with a rock (other than the current logout timer we already have). Some sort of rest or 'inactive' buff should also apply. IE the 'wounded' guy can be dragged back to camp, bandage, eat, drink, stay at the camp, do some crafting/cooking for the group while the others are out hunting/scavenging.

There's already a confirmed full Wipe for when .58 comes to stable. Get used to it.

Would SCAR seem suitable in the DayZ-environment?
IkaikaKekai replied to Gunuziz's topic in Suggestions
Probably, but civilian weapons are more prevelant for a reason. They want it so that military weapons will be more rare, so that say a group will have a mix of weapons rather than everyone armed with an AKM with drum mags or whatever the 'best' weapon of the current patch is. -

We should improve it further by removing all weapons as well.
