how to handle property - the issue when being offline
joe_mcentire replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
Really why on earth do you want to start a conversation like this?! why are you doing this to me :(... but thanks for correcting me. but now as i read it..haha some phrases sound weird edit: [Ollox says: how about greater numbers near the base making the timer count faster?] good idea indeed [Ollox says: The base could remain owned by the logged out team indefinitely until a rival team tried to break in. It would take several attempts to break in and there would be a cool-down period between attempts, to give the owners a chance to log back in and repair the damage. The base could also have a security level, which could be upgraded by the owners, that would determine how many break-in attempts the base could withstand before it is overrun.] again, i like the overall idea [Ollox: I really don't like the idea of NPC's so I removed that! :P] Well I know most ppl are somehow offended by this idea ;) [Ollox: Perhaps some repairs, and the initial activation of the system, would require spare parts that would have to be scavenged for?] well we could say a house (with several doors) turns into a base just the moment it is only accessible by its main door, which implies any other has been boarded-up by the player -
Urgent issue: Server-Hopping on SA. Let´s say NO! And make it a thing of the past.

one very strong conter-argument: hackers, abusive ppl, etc. which leaves you frustrated and without fun at all. and you want to forbid someone to change the server? -
Random question from little kid: "But aren't these significant samples, which proved to be on the spot in the past?"

well you won't find much supporters for the NPC idea, that's evident. but where are your suggestions for being offline?! - well you could hire ... someone... i guess...WHO WOULD DO THAT? what happend to society.... -
Well hello to you all here at dayzmod.com :)!

but but but... stop it! well maybe it is biased to some extent but you clearly cannot deny that at least half of the community really could be dissatisfied with this issue. Now it is about 50-50. I don't care if it were then +- 20% there would have been at least still a third being dissatisfied which is nevertheless a bad thing.

tbh this is an dayz-utopia - the ultimate goal and end-game of dayz and this is due to mankind never reachable ;) Ultimately this is Dean's wet dreams come true (this is just most certain!!) ;) -
a burned down tin can factory - as a sign and memorial ;) edit: there you could find - in the worst condition - all of the notorious cans

I see your point, however to be realistic who would be able to be 24/7 - even if you are 35 guys in a clan - in the game to keep your base running? This is simply not possible, unless you see the base as "save haven" where you grant security and a free trade area, to let quasi every passing guy in your base at all time. The major problem would simply be: who would try to maintain a base when they know they have no chance to defend when not online. The reality would be, there would be some to try at first, because it is all new and cool and whatnot but ppl will soon lose their joy in building and maintaining bases as they see the effort is simply useless in the long run. PPL would simply not use bases any more. Hence you made a huge effort, added a huge feature to the game and it would be in let's say 2 months completely redundant. of course that is just my opinion and my own belief. edit: ..from a Matt Lightfoot interview. This could then be the same argument with bases.. -
there is an easter egg thread somewhere already...
-
well that is something i didn't think of yet quite frankly. Interesting idea. What if loot simply would stop spawning, or maybe base-related stuff only and then very very slowly. Imagine this: You took over a farm-house and set up a base. Now you could get base-related stuff slowly over time. wooden planks, scrap metal, maybe rusted barb-wire. You could imagine this loot as if you would literally tear down those things from walls within the house or discover in the attic/cellars to further improve your base. But of course that is just a thought and I'm well aware some of you dislike such ideas...
-
read some of the provided links to threads - there you will see some problems that would come along with your idea
-
hej..no i didn't want you to mention me! that is just wrong! stop it you..you little rascal! Es war nur eine Anspielung... ;) i just thought of cross-linking threads which are related to this one.

Why make instanced or underground bases?
joe_mcentire replied to Jeremiah Cross's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
we could give predefined areas where bases would be possible, therefore you have a determinable amount at all time -
one easy way would be to implement them in a poorer condition like in the first pictures of Joeys thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/121763-3d-model-different-food-qualities-215-update so you get easily rid of the "cartoony" look

can we please stop donations for gear servers !
joe_mcentire replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
hehe what you could do is...finding out where they are from and write a mail to the fiscal authority of their country with the link to their homepage ;)... then you play the waiting game (well it is not the nicest way...but surely strictly legal) edit: i just want to know, we are not talking about expense allowance, are we? -
yeah like in real life. when i go to my grocery store there are also just the 6 things i need at the moment, the rest is gone, don't know how they do it? Maybe think about it how it can add to a deeper scavenge-experience. And just because maybe you're not that into that aspect it doesn't mean others aren't neither. Most of the time you would find useless junk instead of something you really need at the moment...

My criticisms of DayZ mod/Standalone
joe_mcentire replied to westonsammy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
you do not have to do and implement as much as possible to create something good. AND it is hard to compare apples to oranges. Is the Avatar a better film then the Artist?
