Are we going to see Almas? edit: fyi Almas are considered to be more "wild men" than "ape men"

Fire! Will it play a bigger role eventually? or is the engine a restriction?

Third person vs First person view
joe_mcentire replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
this one is all about trade-off -
ah one of my personal favorites: With a completely overhauled medical system, the new crafting system and even the repairing system, you cannot create Mini-Games for each task, you cannot simulate everything visually or audibly neither. How far are your thoughts about text messages like "your forehead is feeling a little bit hot", "It seems that there are some el. wires torn apart", etc. as a reminisence to ancient text-based games? They would be fairly easy to implement and a good compromise between "realism" and "immersion"

[Stand Alone] What do you want in standalone?
joe_mcentire replied to nickstarship's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
tourret doesn't mean only to scream uncontrollably, it also means e.g. hitting oneself uncontrollably -
1st "vs" 3rd person is one, if not the most discussed topic in the community (besides weapons and hacking). Have you ever thought of an utterly different approach like when starting fresh you only have 1st Person view (along with no weaponry, almost no equipment). 3rd Person view hast to be "earned" as well as anything else ingame by finding mirrors, or even more complex, by building periscope-like devices (3rd person would simulate the use to look behind corners/behind ones back/above walls)?

You recently said, that at the moment the game seems to be all about crafting (exaggerated) so this is going to be a core concept. What is the ultimate goal in terms of crafting? Is there an idea to improvise all kind of stuff to gain any new kind of stuff? keywords: alienation, improvisation, ideas from Fallout-Series.

Standalone modding support
joe_mcentire replied to komoter226@yahoo.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i could think of massive community involvement and a section where everyone could upload their files. then BIS could review and evaluate them if they could be used. you don't even need to "open up" the game. -

would you mind to post this as a question there: -
Have you thought about extrem weather effects? Do you think hail would be a nice and fairly easy thing to implement?

we already have casualties over here....terrible -
Is "DayZ Standalone" only the "working title"? Have you ever thought about an independent title for the SA?

truth is...this is how life works. beauty means fertility and we are programmed to look for fertile things (food, reproduction). edit: holy sh*t...i think this was a seizure! -

Off Topic: just a short advertisement for a new thread for all who have important questions about the Standalone. You can post them there (make sure to read the initial post though) and hopefully some will be answered over time and in the course of several events (e.g. E3) [DAYZ SA] - ultimate Q&A thank you -

i understand the quickbar as something that you would have at hand immediately: things in your pants pockets or actually any pockets, on your belt, in your holster... -

the downfall of our community.... on reddit there is another "-gate" going on after cangate, now fontgate.... i don't like the direction our community is going right at the moment. and therefore i'd like to thank dean to stay strong! keep ignoring this "uprising of the rabble" :P -
Is there any justified hope, to see rivers ingame at any point? or are they engine-wise almost impossible to "achieve" in a reasonable amount of time? Rivers, streams, runlets with small ditches, meadows...that would be something...

You once said health would depend now on various things and not on blood solely. Has there been any progress towards a more proper definiton of health? will we see something different from day 1 of open alpha? And a subsequent question: Can you think of something more realistic/logic in terms of an apocalyptic, non-sterile, electroless world than blood-transfusions?
-
How are you going to tackle the doubtlessly flawed humanity-system as it is implemented currently in the mod? Were there other plans or ideas to "force" players to certain behaviour - the humanity system sure does - or are there up to date simply no proper plans or ideas how to overcome this issue? Will we see something different from the very start of open alpha?
-
Which basic functions and features have to work/be implemented to go into open alpha? What do you think, people will be definitely surprised at what to find/not to find in the first open release?
-
What's your take on the idea to integrate static or "dynamic" props to intensify the cold, merciless experience of the apocalyptic DayZ world or just to add more layers to an uber-immersive world? some signs from the past, the beginning of the outbreak, those stories which already have been written and still can be seen right now.. just subtle and depressing ones. Some key-words: subtle ones like: anthills, beehives, left-behind baby strollers, windbells hanging from porches... scenes of desperation and disturbance such as suicide-scenes; hung from a tree branch, couple lying with revolver in bed, guy in car in garage, famished family in a cellar/attic, parts of small villages burnt to ashes... edit: another keyword: unique or seemingly useless junk edit: edited
