    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

interesting. would you kindly provide some sort of footage? would be really interesting to see. edit: they use the system with the collision boxes or the system as proposed in the vid? tbh. i couldn't care less as long as i am not forced to play 3rd person only. i was just following the dicussion and it baffles me that (obviously not everyone) many just seem to like 3rd person because of the very advantage/disadvantage you have in this game. that's why i like to talk about it and discuss it. some get clearly offended and quite defensive and start to insult ppl with their 3rd post it also seems - at least to me - that some have quite the double standards in terms of what is immersion breaking and what not. as Dean pointed out: 3rd person will forever remain untouched, which imo is a pity, but that's what BI thought they have to do for sales and therefore it was a necessary concession to make.

however the concept proposed in the video is the most efficient based on eradicating the overall imbalance. i can't see how limiting the camera would inhibit peaking around a corner, yes maybe over a wall or fence, but if you would stand close enough to a corner you would - no matter how far the camera zooms in - see around it. if anyone of you still has e.g. Skyrim installed. try it! zoom in on 3rd person as much as you can and move the camera angle. try to exploit it to see around a corner. and maybe also please provide comparison pics! unfortunately i have no skyrim.

spot on. must be able to settle this without getting defensive and over-polemic all the time...
  8. well this happens actually, don't you know? especially in fall.
  9. zeds are placeholders. sounds a bit odd and is quite unfortunate but that's how it is. so thread is more or less obsolete.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

in the end as you've pointed out with several other points it doesn't matter much. everyone has servers of their preference. and dividing it into those two hives has at least one advantage for 1st person servers. scripts and hacks seem to be used almost exclusively on them :/.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

sorry. but that is just not easy for me to grasp. breaking immersion by allowing a massive imbalance due to being able to see around/over walls/corners and saying that is perfectly ok and at the same time stating that such a "fix" would be immersion-killing is just illogical (at least) to me. how could you possibly explain that? everyone arguing the same way, i really would like to understand why the first issue is perfectly ok but the second one is unacceptable and immersion-breaking from your point of view?

you've posted this now at least twice. please just take a moment and think why it doesn't make any sense. now this seems to make a bit more sense.

agreed, a very good solution. i have pretty clear picture of why you wouldn't want such a feature though.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

i think the basic thing is: ppl pleading for this idea and for 1st person servers in general fear that at some point 1st person servers (as in the mod) "die out". well because human's instinct is to go the easy way and no matter if he is at a disadvantage 6 times in a row with the inherent imbalance of 3rd person, at some point he is peaking around the corner and has the absolute power and control over a situation. that's maybe why many get drawn to 3rd person servers eventually. Me included, we fear that the "essence" of the game could die eventually, which would be a real shame. However reading that an idea like the one discussed in this thread would somehow "break the 4th wall" although at the same time you can see around every corner and over walls and pretty much appreciate this very fact, then it is getting ridiculous tbh. My very personal feel is that DayZ should not reward such thinking and such an approach. it may be even an insult for the "antigame" to exploit the very "gamey" features. I think the idea is good. of course as presented here it is merely a poorly executed mod for arma. but it's about the idea and that's everything you need to know for now.
  18. only interesting and direct-game related info: combat-logging: data-logging will be the key. the current spawn-penalty system is just the first step in this direction. more advanced system than sitting down for 30sec may be possible but at the current situation due to glitchiness of zeds it may be unfair. seasons: prototypes done but for arma basically. not impossible, but they can't just take on everything for the next 12 months. diseases: done. "just" not turned on. main issue: server-performance, so they don't strain things, rather get loot respawns working. quite a lot of stuff is in fact already done. server-performance still holds them back. :) VR: VR is still a problem, a bunch of issues. not before they lay hands on client performance.

related to Zeds and how we could approach a more authentic way for them to behave. basically trying to define zeds for the game, (bare in mind, it's quite old) What is „The Infection“? a definition (-approach)

    use containers for "passive" loot

roadmap revealed. and now the certainty: community input made it into the game. yet again!
  21. so far: animals and zeds got "outsourced". so i think there was a point where they decided to let fresh minds and different approaches trying to achieve a plausible and functioning ai. base building without instanced underground bases. the roadmap however looks sure very promising.
  22. so i just got reminded that in the mod you were able to gather fire-wood only when being on a forest-ground. so i guess the basics would be already in place for that feature.hm interesting
  23. when did that happen? so there was one yesterday and now again?

    Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251

correct. however we shouldn't focus to much on lore imo (even lore may be changed over the course of development ). i love how interaction with the dead in Dead Rising 3 feels. hundreds of hundreds zeds in just one place all just slowly tumbling and shambling. i could also think about several stages of The Disease. where in the first zeds behave more like the ones in 28 days later and in the last where they do behave as in the walking dead or other zombie games
  25. nice to see that devs can set incentives to bring as back all the time ;)
