    Remove gamma and brightness settings

    Because in DayZ that's what the moon (ambient) and street lights in towns (artificial) have in the game. Trying to keep it significantly realistic. It's a hugely moot point obviously but was bored and live where they don't have any street lights so it's all low power and house lighting around me which seemed perfect to compare with the game itself.

    every server is dark

    I'd be fine with that if the night was anywhere remotely accurate on the default settings. Sadly it isn't yet and its a huge obstacle. I don't see an issue with people wanting to play all day or all night versions. Its still a video game. Until is no longer an option allowed, people are going to want it. And when something isn't allowed or not included people will post their thoughts/rants/opinions/rage/secret family recipes and whatever else floats their boat. Nobody should have to agree 100% with everyone else. If it happens then it does and some people will be happier but everyone will have a choice on how they play which is fantastic. I love all the back and forth that come out of this like people actually have the say all of what's going to be versus the person they're countering in the forum. That's not directed at anyone personally just a general statement for just about everything I've seen on here. I'm just gonna enjoy the game in whatever way its going to let me.

    This night time stuff is very annoying...

    It isn't really a problem lol just thought it was funny that they can have realism with time but not with food. But yes I'll definitely give it another go this time round to see what I can replicate what you were saying. I'd love to find the sweet spot like you were saying. I'm screwed though if I ever want to make that happen since the new patch. The server I was on was so bare it was unbelievable. I found one can of spaghetti my whole trek today. I mean it literally. I didn't know a patch could cause so many people to take literally everything.

    That sounds about right. I went binge eating when I killed a guy who had nothing but beans, and some cereal. I was told what you said by mates when we went camping on our 8 hour overwatch runs. I wouldn't have said what I said if it didn't work for me. I will try it again but I always eat my stores I rarely save and all I know is I've never had any sort of realistic period of not having to eat. It has to vary based on character too. The one I got a few hours ago after my week old one dying in balota this morning hasn't had to eat or drink yet. I've made it from three valleys to nw then to ne without any messages so far which is pretty impressive. I'm going to see how long I can go maybe it got fixed for me.

    Yea but it might just be my bad luck. I run hardcore around the map. The longest I've gone without eating was 5 hours but it went from no messages to red to unconscious by the time I got the beans open. Sucked. I haven't seen much consistency with the food/water with my clan it's varies among us.

    Lol no. Just no. I actually mean full. Healthy notification. Hunger in 1 hour. Thirst in 2. No running just camping. Running actually prolongs it to about 3 hours but definitely not 22.

    I like that I can't play in the day because the game represents real time yet an hour after I'm full I am close to death. Makes sense.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113860

    Why is everyone panicking about a patch lol. It's sweet and all to get updates but damn I'll take them when I get them. It'd just be nice to have a confirmed date because I'd like to know when I should go commando and shoot my hoard of ammo off before I get wiped.

    Hidden northwest military base?

    I don't think it was black mountain, I was there and it's a castle, no water supply. I think you wandered into Bashnya. It's actually right on top of the NWAF so it does make me wonder. It's the only place though that would make sense as you described. How many buildings were there? It's a wild goose chase lol. Look like this maybe? There's a well right in the middle.

    What I think the night should look like;

    Yea they colored and boomified it like pretty much the whole picture. What I'm saying is the street lamps, there, kamenka, even the tiny ass towns, do output light. It's just completely a fail but there is light output from them. They are dim and light only in a .5 meter radius but the lights do produce light. Enough so my character has to "adjust" to the dark when I walk back into the dark.

    What I think the night should look like;

    Lol must be them sunglasses B) But yea it really does vary from person to person. It is amazing though that even in the darkest places, where you can see the sky still I'm not talking about caves or nothing like that, you can still pull light out of it. Granted some places go beyond what we can see but I've done photography that came out beautiful where I couldn't see objects past 50 yards, which apparently compared to what everyone else on here claims they can't see (besides a few people, some of them military guys) is somehow unheard of. Raised in a city too so I don't see how that really plays into things

    What I think the night should look like;

    Would be nice to be able to set up a generator and such and make a little base. And what do you mean added? They're in the Standalone fully functional in cities and small towns, they just suck at working properly like flashlights.

    There's street lights in the game though. At the least it would be nice to see them distribute light properly.

    No servers in Server Browser

    Change the settings in the firewall to allow the program to run? That's kind of strange and probably aggravating.

    every server is dark

    There's no getting away from a path of least resistance or it wouldn't exist at all. People will combat log if they want because it's easy. People will kill on sight because it's easy. People will turn the gamma and brightness up because that's easy. That's just the way it is. Welcome to survival, the easier you can make it for yourself, the better your chances. Period.

    every server is dark

    I did the same thing. Logged off at 3 AM EST, logged on at 7 AM EST. Still dark. Played for four hours, still dark. Logged back on at 3 PM EST and it was still dark even while playing for another 2 hours. What gives? 24/7 night?. I flipped around a few servers that had EST settings too just to be sure since the game wipes my character every time I spawn in anyway and that still brought no joy. I have yet to play a server in the day and it's kind of disappointing.

    every server is dark

    As much as it sacrifices immersion for some, it enhances realism for others. Real life is not as dark as how DayZ portrays it. Not even close once your eyes are adjusted. I too agree that it is hard to find a day server. I will try out frenchies though. It would be really nice to get some day time in for once. Gets rather boring when there's no cycle to it.

    Night time way too dark

    Done it, many times and in many places. Have never been totally void of sight. I live in the country as well and I've never had issues. The whole thing goes back to each individual person though, and was mentioned vitamin A seems to be a key player for a persons ability to see in the dark. You can play the game as you see darkness, I would like to play the game as I see darkness and for me this game is totally unrealistic. If you have ever seen any pictures of long exposure photography, people go to THE darkest stretches of their ability to take pictures of it. There is still plenty of light to make a great picture. There is no pure darkness outside really. Granted our eyes aren't that good but we can still pull light out of some pretty dark places. Just a fact of life. This was when I was vacationing in warmer climates. This was exactly how it looked after sitting out there for 20 minutes, minus the moon blooming of course. It's only an 8 second exposure which is very very short. That's in a secluded island where there is no city to even produce light. All the lights are from dock lights and a house or two. In the picture above, that's how street lights should illuminate the area in the game. That's real life. The 3 foot radius of barely visible light coming out of the towns with lamps is no bueno at all. I apologize for the very bright looking lamps themselves but that's just how light sensitivity works for a camera compared to our eyes that have an immense dynamic range. That's about 25% brighter than real life visibility also.

    Night time way too dark

    Well done sir. That would be cool if the game had that little extra factor in there for seeing better by taking vitamins. Also the eye patch method is very very effective. It's a common thing for snipers. People don't realize how well we can actually see anymore. A great thing for driving at night is to turn down your dash lighting to the lowest you can tolerate, drive for a bit, then turn it down more until it hits the lowest setting if not already there. It helps you see the shadows better by not distracting your eyes. Granted this is only helpful for those on rural untrafficked roads. That's why I don't get the people who want to leave there fog lights on when they switch to the brights. The whole point of the brights is to illuminate the distance, the fogs turn off to dim the foreground so you can see dark things at a distance better since you aren't being polluted by what's immediately in front of you as much.

    Night time way too dark

    I agree with that. I'm about to boot it up so I can finally get some day time in. It does seem rather faulted. They shpud definitely make some sort of accelerated cycle for day and night. Just don't question the beady red eyes staring at you from the darkness :p

    Night time way too dark

    Where I live is irrelevant of where I've been. Go hunting or go camping to see for yourself that its no magical fantasy that we can in fact see pretty well in poor lighting conditions. You give yourself a little while to ajdust and you can see objects fairly decently. Do it on a clear sky with the moon full and its like a wonderland. Put snow on the ground with a full moon night and you could see as far as your line of sight goes on for (posted a picture of a snowy night in my locale, it is spot on to what I was seeing through my eyes) This. Granted some people have a tough time but generally we have some decent night vision.
