Yeah Im pretty sure it uses version of RV that Take on Helicopters uses, so it's slightly more polished than the A2 one, but not quite on par with A3. Why they decided not to go with the A3 engine, it could be possible that it was much easier to move from the A2 engine to the current SA one, rather than trying to port everything over to the A3 engine. It would have meant increasing development time quite a bit. Even use of the A2 maps took a while to implement in A3, and it's still not perfect in some cases. That's just my guess though.

I honestly don't know enough about firearms to know which would start to show faults first, but I reckon the Mosin would be much easier to clean/fix up afterwards :p I don't know how much the AR design has improved over the years, but some tales from their early implementation in Vietnam would suggest they don't hold up to well under long-term exposure to harsh enviroments. I guess the only real way they could exoress this in game would be to have the Mosins condition degrade much slower, and maybe have cleaning kits be more or less useful depending on which weapon you use them on.

It really all comes down to the situation in which you're using the weapon, surely? I'd agree that the M4 is without doubt a more advanced and versatile rifle in real life, despite my general lack of enthusiasm for AR series weapons. And while not directly translatable, the same is pretty much true in game. The Mosin is just a more reliable and sure option when engaging over increased distance, and the 7.62 doesn't mess around when it comes to dropping people dead. I'm not sure what you mean by "categorically more powerful", but the truth of the situation seems to be that the M4 is a very good all-purpose weapon, but the Mosin excels over greater ranges. I mean the only arguement for the Mosin being empirically more powerful kind of falls apart when you consider two, hypothetially identical, evenly matched players facing off over a <100m distance. The M4 will win out, barring luck, just due to the increased firepower it carries. But ranges 300m+ the Mosin will probably take the cake. As usual, it's more down to the person using the weapon, rather than the weapon itself. I don't think it's really applicable to say that the Mosin is "more powerful" than the M4 because they serve different purposes.

How to avoid being killed by bandits?

english isn't everyones first language, no need to get all uppity about spelling and grammar on a pretty international forum. it's not like anything he said was hard to understand. -
How to avoid being killed by bandits?
SwarfwgaHead replied to tailgaterz69's topic in General Discussion
the zombies are pretty much a placeholder currently, the dev team are working on the AI and increasing their numbers (greatly, if all our dreams come true), so the incredibly PvP nature of the game is definitely going to change by the time the full release comes around. Hell a lot of it will hopefully be smoothed out by Beta (not to be overly optimistic!). Expect zombies and general survival to become much larger obstacles in the future. Just gotta be patient! -
How to avoid being killed by bandits?
SwarfwgaHead replied to tailgaterz69's topic in General Discussion
First thing is definitely to get the hell off the coast. Your safest option is to get geared up enough to defend yourself and avoid people until then. Once you get used to the map and getting geared up, how you deal with people is all up to you! I've had maybe 6 interactions in the past week, and not been killed once. No players I'd consider particularly friendly, but people who just want to go about their business. I've found that as long as you keep calm and look like you have the means to defend yourself, interactions are less likely to go badly, because people dont want to take the risk of losing their own gear if things go bad for them. That said, I play FPP only, so most encounters tend to be very close and very surprising. Being shot by bandits from 400m away, I can't think of anything to avoid that other than don't hang around on the coast or go near cities/airfields. -
THEORY- scopes and binoculars please read.
SwarfwgaHead replied to DropBearChick's topic in General Discussion
It can't see the insurgency-style scope sytem being implemented, as much as I'd like to see it. it looks beautiful and adds to immersion greatly, but given the scale of the map and enviroment, having your surroundings rendered at a different distance to what youre viewing through your scope would kill performance (at least thats how I understand it, people with more knowledge could correct me). Given that they're continuing down the realism route, I think the only real option to implement that would be to add some kind of blur filter to peripheral vision when aiming down a scope. A lot of people wouldn't like it, but I think it would be a nice touch, maybe restricted to hardcore servers. Its not perfectly realistic, but anytime Ive looked down a magnifying optic it does make your awareness of peripherals decrease significantly. You can't really focus on two places at once. But yeah, all that aside, fixing the scopes to incorporate real-life magnification would be wonderful, Amazing things were done with Mosins fitted with PU scopes duting WWII, and it feels a little disappointing that the magnification hinders its usefulness here. But I can see a lot of the properties of weapons and attachments being changed as time goes on. Gameplay will change a lot with the intoduction of vehicles and when zombies get fixed etc! -
I died being forcefed M4A1 magazine rounds...
SwarfwgaHead replied to ImDeafDontShootMe's topic in General Discussion
who's said youre not supposed to be able to force feed ammunition? they should really be able to force feed you anything that will realistically fit down your throat. if you were fed them, it's not a glitch, thats just a new way sickos have to kill you. admittedly i think it's pretty imaginative and kinda awesome/ -

Just got shot, fell unconscious, woke back up and then crawled away.
SwarfwgaHead replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
I hope this is something they stick with and expand on. It'd be cool to see the likes of rubber bullets for shotguns, doing minimal damage but leading to incapacitation for a short time. -
Patch rollbacks are not going to happen, and expecting them to is pretty silly. As it has to be mentioned at least once in every thread, this is an alpha. Todays hotfix was released with far less testing than any of the previous updates because the devs were attempting to fix a serious issue a lot of people were experiencing. Yes this may have caused some problems for some people, but this early in development, as soon as they fix one bug another will show up. Give them time to work on this and will get fixed. You bought an game in Alpha, expect shit like this to happen and don't start shouting at the devs about how they're not doing enough.

`Yeah I noticed this earlier, before the patch i was bleeding every time i took 1-hits from a zombie, now I've taken a few whacks and not bled once. If it's an intentional decrease I'm glad, but from what you guys are reporting they may have toned it down a bit too much? Then again, maybe it's a step towards the bleed system we'll get when there are arseloads of zombies around and they actually become a threat.

Yeah I've been experiencing some serious FPS drops. Nothing consistent, just every 10-20 minutes the frame rate will drop, and sometimes the game will just hang for a second or two before cathing up, it's definitely an issue. That said I think fixing the inability to respawn was a fairly major need, so the update was rushed. I'd rather see more people playing with the occasional performance drop than have people completely unable to play. Theyll fix it soon enough

Can you play Dayz with an Xbox controller?
SwarfwgaHead replied to Synergy2525's topic in General Discussion
Yeah honestly, Im not one of those people who celebrate the wonders of PC gaming over consoles, if Im playing something single player Id much rather sit back with a controller because it's just more convenient and relaxing. But why you'd want to use a controller in a game like this is beyond me. Not even taking into account the fact that looking/aiming won't be half as effective, there's no way you could quickly manage the inventory screen with a controller, and that would grate on my nerves. But, it's definitely possible. -
Nobody ever suggested there was anything they could add that would prevent KoS. In fact, I thought the OP was pretty clear about the idea that KoS is kind of a necessary evil if the game is going to be as fun and intense as people expect. Anybody who wants KoS or blind, hopeless heroics to stop is looking to end everything fun about the game. Personally I only kill when I feel threatened. Since I bought SA I've only killed one other player, and Ive had maybe 10 encounters, none of which were friendly per se, but we both just disarmed the situation, lowered out weapons and moved on. And thats half the fun of the game, spotting another player and being unsure of what to do next; shoot them, try to speak out, or just avoid them completely? I tend to avoid other players til I have at least somewhat decent kit, but once you have what you need theres nothing left to do but interact. And if your idea of interaction is filling someone with bullets then Im not going to argue! The most unique, interesting thing about this game is how free you are in your interactions with other players, and trying to shame or belittle anyone for how they play, be it KoS or Hero til the very end, its kind of going against everything that makes this game what it is.

Need Medical Assistance in DayZ SA ? Find Your medic here!
SwarfwgaHead replied to TMWMarijke's topic in General Discussion
Need help with a broken leg! Had 2 morphine injectors, both sadly ruined in the events leading to my current state! Name in game is SwarfegaHead. Im in one of the apartment buildings on the NW side of Cherno, on the coastal side of the block, sorry i cant be more specific. Currently wearing a green beret, black flannel shirt, UK vest, blue cargo pants, armed with an M4, Mosin and axe. any help is appreciated, ive enough food and water to keep me going a couple of hours :p -
i love playing at night, but gamma etc. should definitely be regulated/set by the server or whatever. torches should be necessary at night, you should have to think about when its safe to turn it on and risk giving away your position. it adds a great element to gameplay, I just wish it wasnt so exploitable at the minute.

Angels of Death Official Event: "Chenarus Hostage Situation!"
SwarfwgaHead replied to caledric's topic in General Discussion
I'd love to join in on this! Unfortunately I work weekends! Hopefully I can join in on future events, I think dynamic, player made events and scenarios like these can make the game. Theres only so much fun you can have running around gathering stuff and snuffing out bandits, more organised RP style stuff would make me a happy survivor -
Cigs and cigars for sure. And when the food/cooking system is implemented, why not human meat? Edit: Also, now that I think of it I've heard quite a few people pleaying music over Direct, I'd like to have an acoustic guitar slung over my back to lay down some campfire tunes for friendly folk. Regarless of how inviting the sounds would be to people with more bullets than morals!

KoS is a part of the whole experience I feel. I don't do it myself if I can help it (and thats gotten me killed more times than I can count). But having that threat over your head every time you play is what makes playing the game so intense. And KoS isn't always an intentional thing either. Given a split second to decide, your brain can have you pulling the trigger before youve even conciously decided to fire. Having a decent surrender/subdue system with handcuffs etc. has given bandits a lot more options in how they go about things, and even if you do end up dead afterwards, it can still be a fun (and often ridiculous) experience. That said hanging out on the coast and killing fresh spawns from 300m out just sounds incredibly pointless and boring to me. Killing for loot as a bandit is one thing and adds a great dynamic to the game, killing our of selve preservation is easily understandable, Just killing for the sake of killing is a bit daft,

I still remember the panicky chase that was my first kill, back in some of the earlier days of the mod. i was heading north out of Cherno, and hadn't even crested the hill just past the apartments when I noticed someone following me. I decided to make for the tree line just as the first rounds rang past my head. Only armed with a pistol, he managed a glancing blow that left me with a rather unpleasant, gushing wound. Instead of taking the risk of turning on him and trying to fill him with buckshot, I double-timed it into the woods. My pursuer was determined however, and continued the chase. Putting the local Chernarussian foliage to good use, I ran down an embankment to the nearby dam and dove into the underbrush. Hoping I had escaped, I took the opportunity to bandage my leaking body. My heart was racing, and what felt like an eternity passed before I heard the telltale sound of footseps. Getting closer. Closer still. I stifled my breathing, making every attemt to avoid discovery. Then silence. Feeling slightly panicked, I looked around to see the unmistakable sight of a white shirtleeve moving through the trees, moving past me, clearly unaware of my location. I rise to my knees and try to steady my aim as well as my nerves. The hunter becomes the hunted as I line the stranger in my sights and pull the trigger... My first SA kill makes a slightly less dramatic tale, and involves a poor shovel-weilding survivor being instantly knocked unconscious by my womanly fists as he was examining some loot in the corner of a barn.
