I have Had Enough Of This

May I quote an interview from Rocket as a response: PCG: From a technical and design standpoint, what does being standalone free you up to do? Dean “Rocket” Hall: The biggest thing, I guess, that’s at the forefront for me—because my Facebook is literally flooded with messages about it—is being able to take on the hacking. It’s something that you never completely solve, you just have to keep on at it. Arma, as you know, is a very trusting engine, because that’s what it was designed to do. It was designed for a team of like-minded individuals to play. So that’s the first thing that we’ll be able to push forward with. I don’t like to say that we’ll lock it down, but we’ll get the experience polished for PvP. We’ll be able to start dealing with the hacking issues properly, and also lock down some of the key bugs. If we wanted to fix these right now, we’d have to mess with Arma too much. I think Arma deserves to be left alone to an extent, and not have DayZ putting in fixes that might cause it problems. I have Had Enough Of This

Its been said in the thread already, but since what your making a topic has been said countless times on the forums, we aren't playing a game here. We are testing out a alpha of a game which has no intention of remaining on this iteration of the RV engine, in particular, Arma 2. When standalone is out, most of the so called 'hacking' which is mostly scripting which is done frequently in Arma2's standard configuration for good, not evil (lol), will be eliminated as the game will be locked down. They don't care if you stop playing due to the hackers, they know the hackers are a pain in the ass, they probably stopped playing too, the reason they don't care is because this is not being pushed as a finished project, it started as a humble mod and features are added for us to test out, not to play as our main choice of entertainment, for all they wanted, they could release a patch for a week, let us test it, collect the data, bring the hive down until the next iteration. So basically, don't worry, take a break or enjoy what you can out of the griefer(looking at you cheats, <3 you bandits) infested mod and hope for the best in standalone.

    the hive, and 1.7.2.5

People playing as if it wasn't is a major problem. The problem is people are putting a lot of time and effort it but forgetting that its basically a 'rough idea' of the standalone now. "dont get attached" has been some of the best advice I've seen on the forum, and that helps me, but taking a break is currently the main way I do things now, due to the rampant hackers.

    the hive, and 1.7.2.5

The people here can't answer most of your questions, in particular what Bohemia is doing with the money etc Rocket has stated he will be locking down the full game, talking about the openness to scripting, which is OPEN in Arma2 for the benefit of the original, more trusting playerbase, where the issue of a player spawning in a 50cal isnt that big of a deal anyhow, so that IS a measure that will protect the game from hackers, i believe. Bohemia is supporting their money maker, by funding the standalone. They won't neglect their original player base and shut out scripting just because of a Mod, even with its popularity, and face it, DayZ really has no competition out there for the frustrated players to go, so when standalone comes out if the issues are ironed out they will be back. There's really nothing stopping Rocket from pulling the whole Hive down, and putting ALL the efforts into standalone, however as the engines are likely very very very similar, he can test features on the mod with the massive playerbase and have them implemented into standalone killing two birds with one stone. I'd also say the data hes collecting in regards is also going to go towards making standalone more watertight, but as Gunslinger has said, hes done pretty much all he can do in terms of plugging up all the holes in which 'hacking' occurs. EDIT In regards to: Arma2 is quite an old title by now, and im sure your well aware of their current project Arma3, I'd say they are possibly using the time and money to further improve their current work in progress title, than their complete one, and thats a half truth as we have seen, they are probably releasing more patches more frequently than any other company at least I can name. So why not fixing the things that make DayZ a pain to play? Probably engine restrictions, im not a programmer, so I could be wrong, but I imagine many things are fairly hard coded and cannot be simply decompiled, fixed and reconstructed.
  7. I'd love for them to be more dangerous too, more of an ever lingering threat to my 'life', doing as you say, moving toward distant gunfire etc. I'd also like much less firepower, or at least less hightech firepower. None the less, for reasons already mentioned by others above, the current zeds would just be too much of a nuisance as they stand due to their glitchiness, but in standalone, yes yes and more yes.
  8. Any Melee weapon would need an added use to be worth giving up the ability to chop wood which has saved many a survivor's life while low on blood in the woods.

    This is where it began.

People always talk about the lack of endgame and I personally think that it's about going back where it began, taking risks and dying so you can start over. The more you love your gear the less risks you take and it gets stale.
  10. I started playing games online at the young age of 13 too, Diablo 1, was no VoIP readily available so nobody to laugh at my voice I guess though it did break quite early, but I think its when 13 year olds try to act like they are older and more mature than what they actually are you begin to get problems. A 13 year old should really behave like one, the whole completely grammatically correct, being able to be remain completely composed to 'trolling' etc is at total odds with their developing hormones etc, and as such they get themselves in a war with people who are laughing as the kid tries to fit in. Used to happen more commonly but it was little brothers and sisters being picked on by older brothers and sisters, cousins etc, but in those situations, the kid could be put into his/her place, forgiveness etc could be given and mediators like parents or even OLDER brothers and sisters were able to help defuse. With the internet, the anonymity throws a lot of that out the water and these kids try even harder to prove themselves, but also don't have anyone to put the brakes on them when they go out of line. The lessons they would normally learn in the real world are lost and the kids go through a phase where they probably grief everyone else in their rage.

    So DayZ will have ragdoll

Im sure if its implemented correctly their rolling will be based more on momentum than the fact theyre on a hill.
  12. Explains how my buddies and I died recently. I was a little bit away from them when they got engaged in the middle of the woods, they were cut down, I fled further away, into a 3 story shed and Stary Sobor, got to the 3rd floor, prone in 3rd person and watched the direction they were killed from. Minutes passed and then I see a distant silhouette moving deliberately toward me. I freeze, get gets closer and closer and closer, to the ENTRANCE right below me, a smoke nade goes in, but he doesn't enter, I see him backpedal and freeze. I crouch walk back along the catwalk making sure I'm not clipping then BOOM, i'm dead.
  13. LOL, hasnt your mother told you the tragic tale of your birth yet? Get off the forums little one. *Gets stabbed to death by crazed angry kid in the near future*

    Hackers out of control

Calling an engine crappy because of the engine in which the game was enjoyed without issue due to a small trusting community is a bit daft. It is an obvious, major flaw now that it suddenly has a large community, pulling kids from other games rife with self entitlement and spoilt brat attitudes. Btw, the last of that sentence is not directed at you, for all I know you play as legitimately as myself or the next guy.
  16. A bit of casino hammer to hand action. All computers need a fist connected to their monitor which punches the user in the face for shitness.

    ONLY CHEATERS INGAME OMFG!!!

Take a break if it bothers you too much, I've stopped bothering with going after higher end loot, trying different things like fighting zombies (LOL) and play sparingly now due to the hacker influx. Try out new patches and remember your mostly 'testing' not playing. There is no real end in sight in regards to the hackers.

    My crazy theory about DayZ

Well, since you want to know how people came about for this mod, ill tell my tale, and thoughts on its development. I was on Steam, playing DoW2 or was it M&B, none the less, it was something and I got a PM from one of my Arma2 buddies. He asked if I had tried DayZ. This was very early in its development and I told him I had not, and was not really interested due to my experience playing zombie mods in the engine already had been somewhat lackluster after the first few minutes. He proceeded to tell me about it, and the idea of a persistent world where you had to get loot etc intrigued me. I proceeded to download it and had a fairly good experience. Banditry was still kind of fresh, and being new to the mod, the zombies were still an unknown who's potential to eat me were not yet realized. The idea of hackers was not even a thought. The patches came fast and furious and the mod gained popularity in its momentum, servers stayed filled and it felt really good, skipping forward we are at present day and we know the state of the game; most of my issues are really with the player base, a double edged sword in my opinion. Without the masses, the idea of standalone would likely remain a pipe dream, but with those numbers we have obviously all felt the game shift further into a lot of SoS(which isn't the bad part, at least imo, I welcome pvp with open(raised) arms) and the one of the biggest detriments, the hackers. They took the fun out of the mod for me, but I hold no ill feelings for BiS or Rocket etc, its a 'flaw' in the engine who always had a tight community and as such a mostly trusting one. The next thing the masses brought which bothers me a little is the bitching and moaning on the forums, this thread, I wouldn't really count as one of them. Its the self entitlement and bitter sentiment seen on forum after forum of any popular game that when the stars and planets do not aline that the sky is falling, the game is 'failing' and the dev team are a pack of horrible losers who have 'no idea'. It is my own choice to open these threads and look, I know this, but even still their genuine, or trolling opinions DO manage to effect me at times, not to rage but to shake my head at the ignorance some people seem to possess. So as for where its at and where it could have gone had their been a smaller, more trusting playerbase are probably very different places, but I still welcome the direction as it gives me something to look forward to in Standalone and i'll reserve judgment of a 'failure' until 6 months after a more complete picture of standalone is out, and though I personally have stopped 'playing' for the time being due to a string of deaths to hackers and glitches, I will still continue to check out the forums and subsequent patches to check out the new content/changes, I remain of a mind that so far, this mod is looking successful and its a credit to Rocket to see what he has done piggybacking on a game that was never designed for this type of game play. TL;DR: Found game after long time Armaverse fan, was mostly impressed, think its pretty good despite a lot of setbacks/glitches/workarounds, thinking of it as a 'sketch' of a bigger picture that will be available in the near future.
  19. Was on 3rd floor Stary Sobor after 2 of my buddies got necked just over the northern hill, i was prone behind the walls inside, i see a player approaching from a distance(being in 3rd person), i watch watch watch, he stops and lines me up as i SLOWLY crouch walk backwards along the catwalk to get away from his 50 cal wall piercing rifle, all the while in 3rd person taking care to ensure im not clipping through the wall revealing myself. He shoots, i die. time 17:59. Hopefully an admin can check who it was. He simple KNEW where I was where nothing else would have given my position away whatsoever.
  20. Ye ye ye ye ye ye ye ye, ho ho ho ho hooooo
  21. More skins and that would be great, as door weaponry I personally would prefer s decline in military grade hardware and a.major increase on civilian grade stuff, especially .22's etc.

    DayZ - Beyond a joke.

Sounds like the dust of rage settled and your seeing with clearer vision. Yes, things can be frustrating, but persevere, look for fixes (many of us do not get visual glitches anymore, I for one) or sit out a patch or two. I havn't played in over a week due to the abundance of hackers, but it doesn't put me into a position where I find it absolutely necessary to curse everything on an internet forum. Props to you for the post you just made, here, have some beans.
