Are Custom Private Hives diluting Rocket's vision for DayZ ?
rainf replied to malau's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You guys are ridiculous. Those are PRIVATE hives, if you don't like it, don't join them. I play over at Balota Buddies, and while I wish it had forced 1st person, its a great community with decent twists on things. -
Whats so entertaining about this mod?
rainf replied to Tomeusz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Teams can be quite over rated. you see a big group and you can be easily intimidated but working coherently in a group requires a lot of time playing with the same crew to be truly effective, and often times the groups can be so confused over comms that you have ample time to get some shots off or gtfo of the danger. More often than not i do better solo, iI only have to worry about where i decide i want to explore or hunt, when I'm chasing my teammates and we all are trying to group up somebody gets killed and we rinse and repeat. That's even more annoying. -
The island?

Another example. Imagine it stayed the same as now, the map, the weapons, (okay not the scripters/hackers), no new features EXCEPT that the Zombie AI was now rewritten from the ground up as opposed to being modified soldier AI. They can now move at speed through buildings, they have good pathing and hit you on the move. This in itself changes everything. Going to rush through that barracks because you know you can get in and out without a care? That other survivor who MIGHT have gear, is it worth shooting at him and getting all the zeds coming to your location? That firefight with that other group, will we have enough ammo to take both them and zombie threat at the same time? Somthing as simple as that could, can, or would be a huge game changer, and its the one I am praying for the most.
-
Thats why you need to play on a Hive.
-
I will be testing the new zombie ai, Seeing how they behave inside buildings, and outside and then contemplate my next move from there. If they are improved and more of a threat, i can imagine firefights and 'banditry' having to take a more hit and run approach.

Thats like writing the info down on paper, then putting it inside a bucket of shit. You wan't the info but you have to get through all the shit to see it. Luckily you did provide me with the text so I could turn the video off and just read.
-
Wow. That was terrible. EDIT: Fuck man. Seriously? I've died and lost all my gear I had worked hard for. Ive died to hackers and it really didn't bother me, but you just trolled the shit out of me with that video. That was seriously fucking terrible.

find a popular private Namalsk server and see how you fair there. It's a whole different ball game. Balota buddies all the way for me, any Au players looking for a tight community with great pvp should check it out.

What does "Cambrian explosion" mean for the project?
-
Patience*. Really, worried? How many month's ago did they announce standalone? Relax Max, it's coming soon and we can hold hands killing zeds together.

If DayZ and WarZ got pregnant, then an abortion is in Order. DayZ's belong with DayZ's only.

Should zombies do this more often ?

"For those curious, the 'headless client' is an ArmA client running on the server, introduced in a recent beta patch for ArmA. The client is just a console window like the server, w/o visuals/audio and such. We are using this to offload AI from the main server (which is loaded down with handling players and network transfers) onto the headless client (HC). This effectively means that the AI is running at 600-1000% higher simulation framerate and this performance is independent of the playercount you have on the server. While this particular mission is a goofy premise, the underlying principle is absolutely game-changing. I'll have additional footage in the near future of more traditional missions utilizing the HC AI improvements". I am wondering if any more experienced Arma heads and admins could expect somewhat increased zombie performance with this feature. Quote from here: http://forums.unitedoperations.net/index.php/topic/14690-better-ai-with-the-headless-client/

Of course they are aware of it, the thing is, it is somthing that can be intergrated NOW with the present beta patches, so a private hive could be setup using this and we could see how it runs im comparison and the collected data would most likely be of value to the Dev's. My question as it stands, was to ask if any people with a little more knowlege in the topic at hand could see the benefits for it for DayZ to begin with as the Zombie AI does behave differently even if it is built on top of soldier AI.

Infected dogs and scared shitless
rainf replied to unconsciousobjector's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think this is going to be covered in standalone as Rocket mentions Zed evolution, fresh infected, infected, long infected in regards to deterioration speed etc. -
How many of you are actually prepared for a real zombie outbreak???
rainf replied to zebra0371's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Im fairly fit, live not far from the end of suburbia but do not have any firearms readily at arms reach however a police station is down the road so it may be possible to get something there but highly risky. I'm in no short supply of non perishables and I have a box of ration packs from when I was in the army. I live not too far from a water supply, and have many basic survival tools avail again from the military such as a field water filter. If I managed to avoid being killed jn the initial outbreak I could probably do ok, but if my kids didn't make it I'd probably be opting out somewhere, and my partner and I are separated living on opposite sides of the city which makes my ability to get over there in a panic next oto none. -
I think we've come to a conclusion on Rocket's "Day Z" experiment.

Op hits nail on the head for me, I agree on all points! Great post. -
Psst. Hey. Hey buddy, yeah you. Get down dont fucking move. What are you doing? Am I friendly? Are you dead? Im friendly enough, for now. Alright... im going to fuck off, don't try to follow me or i'll fuckin shoot you. Ive had that or similar occur a few times, my whole gameplay feeds off interaction with players now as opposed to shoot and scoot, even on the occasions I have full intention of killing them.

I agree with the rest of your post, even this quoted part but I'd like to reply in turn to it; I'd have played as Ido now and had some good fire fights etc and tried out different self imposed play styles until the provided content felt played enough, stopped playing as much and awaited the new patch, after all, this is one part I can justify saying 'alpha'.

Why DayZ is both the BEST and the WORST game in recent time.
rainf replied to deathdealer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can dig it bro; it's why I've gone from playing 5 hours or so a day, to as many every few days etc. If it wweren't for all the hackers I'd play more but as it stands I've fairly well tested the features on offer with relative comfort and like what I've seen, no need to burn myself out due to all the grief. When the next patch comes out I'll bet that most players, hackers included will be testing all the new features and I'll put a fair few hours in until people go back to full time pain in the ass hackers again. Regardless of all of this I, and I'd say most informed players will not be discouraged and eagerly await the final product were all the best of what we have played and seen so far can be enjoyed without the hassle. -

May I quote an interview with Rocket as a response: PCG: From a technical and design standpoint, what does being standalone free you up to do? Dean “Rocket” Hall: The biggest thing, I guess, that’s at the forefront for me—because my Facebook is literally flooded with messages about it—is being able to take on the hacking. It’s something that you never completely solve, you just have to keep on at it. Arma, as you know, is a very trusting engine, because that’s what it was designed to do. It was designed for a team of like-minded individuals to play. So that’s the first thing that we’ll be able to push forward with. I don’t like to say that we’ll lock it down, but we’ll get the experience polished for PvP. We’ll be able to start dealing with the hacking issues properly, and also lock down some of the key bugs. If we wanted to fix these right now, we’d have to mess with Arma too much. I think Arma deserves to be left alone to an extent, and not have DayZ putting in fixes that might cause it problems. Read the rest here: http://www.pcgamer.c...ns-for-players/ PS: Remember, your testing this, as you have said, concept, I can dig the feeling of burnt hours, but were still merely testing, dont put as much heart into it for now, enjoy it as best you can, because until further notice, a hacker will ruin your day.
