Can someone help me find a server?
Toybasher replied to Toybasher's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Thanks. I wonder why the public hive servers are so unpopulated? I sometimes wish I had a time machine so I could go back to the days when nearly EVERY server was full, even the ones with 100 players max. Had alot of fun times. -
Ready for action. I'd love to help out. I'm a big fan of testing. If you need anyone else, I'll gladly join!

Every hero skin is a duck?
Toybasher replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Aww. I thought the thread was about some guy who got hacked or something and like every hero on the server got turned into a duck. lol. -
I've seen this sugguestion before a few times, my opinion is "Sanity" mechanics should be like Amnesia, like if you spend too long in darkness you slowly lose sanity, especially if zombies are around. If it gets too low you start seeing zombies, hearing gunshots, blurry screen, etc. Sanity will be restored slowly overtime, faster if in sunlight. Having it for killing players seems a little too much like a punishment for playstyles. Having it lower only for being in stressful situations such as zombies, darkness, gunshots nearby, shooting at stuff, being near dead bodies (Including zombies and players you and other bandits/survivors/heros killed.) and other things (maybe being in rain in a thunderstorm and thunder strikes near you. etc. Looking at bandits for a long time.) It should come with a "Group" system so if you team up with a buddy, their gunshots or bandit status won't hurt your sanity. Bandits take less sanity damage from gunshots, shooting, and dead bodies. (Zombie bodies might do full sanity damage though. Not sure) They might take slightly less sanity damage from other bandits. Unlike survivors/heros, staring at a hero causes sanity damage, and alot more then a normal survivor looking at a bandit. Hero's take less sanity damage from zombies and (only) zombie bodies, as well as darkness and staring at bandits. Teaming up with another hero lessens sanity damage quite a bit. (A survivor teaming up with a hero also takes less sanity damage, but not as much as 2 heros) Being near a dead hero has a large effect on sanity.

One other issue with it is DayZ has a few problems to begin with, that the lockout would make much worse. For example. what if a hacker teleports you to the sky, or you die from a door hitting you? You would have to wait those four hours before playing again if you were a bandit. Would that be fun? To die because of a glitch or hacker, then to rub salt into the wound, have to wait? Lastly, rocket himself (Correct me if I'm wrong) that he didn't want any playstyles punished in any way, and to allow players to "Use their own playstyle and play the way they want to." having this only for bandits would make it even more unfair. I honestly don't want this to turn into War Z. That would be the worst thing that could ever possibly happen to this great mod. What would be next? Having to make a microtransaction just to skip the wait? I do appreciate the fact you are making a sugguestion, but I think it would help a little if you spent few minutes before you post. Thinking about the sugguestion, how it would effect gameplay, pros and cons, possible community response, etc before you post it can help you decide if it's a good idea or not and worth posting.

In real life the body recovers from wounds overtime. Wouldn't it just be more realistic to have blood slowly heal over the course of a few hours? Its annoying to have to eat to regain health, made worse if you get unlucky and get 10 health from some cooked meat, etc.

Damage to instruments makes the HUD (The in-helmet one) start flickering. (At least in the ARMA games. Not sure if any vehicles with the inhelmet hud exist in dayZ)

I kinda think this would be a neat idea. Perhaps allow the medical bag to act as a "Container" too, allowing you to store some medical items inside it. This way you could free up some space taken up by all the medical items you have in your backpack.
-
It is. Being killed is like a 4 hour lockout, I think. Having this in DayZ would be honestly the lamest thing ever. If they put it in, I'd honestly quit playing. Especially because I'm a pretty crap player, and I would honestly be spending more time waiting for the lockout to end then actually playing. THAT would frustrate me very much.

Reminds me of Amnesia, but I dislike the idea of losing sanity from killing. Seems like a big punishment. Athough it would be cool to have the sanity mechanic re-tooled for just zombies, so if your sorrounded by a bunch of zombies at nightime with no light nearby or something your screen gets blurry, etc. Maybe even reserve the sanity effects and imagining zombies etc for sicknesses if you have a high enough fever you don't think straight anymore. Or it could be like a poison you can get from plants and you would have the option of lacing food items with it for the poor fool who tries to loot a supermarket. Maybe you could keep them on your person so if someone kills and loots you they have a nasty surprise waiting for them. (Inspired by Amnesia)

Where will you take a dump in the Standalone?
Toybasher replied to pr3llox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In the outhouses. In the woods if worst comes to worst. Will the feces stay on the ground? Or will it be like a particle effect that does nothing? Can we pickup the feces and put it in our gear? And yes IRL if you held it in too long you would die. You'd feel like shit though (no pun intended) and you would probably take a dump againist your will if its really bad. -
THIS. A thousand times yes! Having it in as a little april fools joke every april first would be halerious and awesome!

Stopping Bleeding more effectively + Blood Regeneration
Toybasher posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have an idea about bleeding out. This might seem a little cheesey but it seems bleeding very rarely stops on its own without a bandage, causing death from full health from one zombie attack. What if when you went prone, you "Put pressure on the wound" and it had a 1% chance to stop bleeding every "Tick" of damage as long as you remain completely still and prone. This way, it will not be too overpowered so players will still want to apply bandages. (and probably have to because they will still lose alot of blood) But if they can find some quiet spot to lie down, they might be able to stop the bleeding if they are out of bandages. In real life, when you are hurt, the body heals naturally very slowly over time. Having an extremely slow blood regeneration could work if its done right. You will only regenerate blood if your food and water are above halfway. Lastly, while logged out you should be considered "Resting". While logged out, hunger and thirst still go down instead of freezing but much more slowly, while you regenerate blood slightly faster, even if your food and thirst are below halfway. I'd enjoy your input on this. -
Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
Toybasher replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We should have the freedom of choice. If you think its unfair, then use third person so no one is at a disadvantage. Besides I get a little motion sick from the headbob in first person view. And sometimes I just like being able to see whats around my character. -
DayZMod wins PCGamer Mod Of The Year 2012
Toybasher replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I was expecting Black Mesa to win. Amazing work, congrats! Heres to 2013! -
My brother used to be a Beta Tester for Activision, actually. He tested Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer. He told me beta testing can seriously be a real pain in the rear, because he dislikes sports games. He told me he had to play something he basicly hated for hours a day for a few months. His name is in the credits actually. (Frank Mosca) Anyways I'd love to be a beta tester, though. I did some closed beta testing of WarThunder, LoadOut, and World Of Warplanes. (Frustratingly for WoWP and WT I didn't get accepted, and only got in by a beta key giveaway.) I had alot of fun with the betas, and brought up any bugs on the beta forums with the dev's. I have a good deal of experince, and would love to play DayZ standalone. I'd be so happy if I was picked. :D

When did Rocket post this? I don't remember seeing this before! Anyways I think WarZ is an absolute Cluster****. It's goose is cooked. Their banning MANY innnocent players, FULL of hackers, piss-poor customer service, heinously anus gameplay, and graphics and sound so bad, if your ears and eyes could vomit, they would! (Personally just watching gameplay made my eyes start to ache, actually) Rocket, don't let this god-awful imposter (WarZ) try and scare you, keep up the good work, don't worry about the release date. Take your time, it will be so worth it in the end. (Actually, with the steam sale ending, I have a lingering feeling the release is just around the corner. Just a hunch.)

Haha! Thanks for the laugh! I was feeling a bit sad earlier but this cheered me up completely! XD

Try going to the "Audio" section in ARMA under the options menu and fiddle with the sliders, maybe you have some of the volume sliders set to 0 by mistake?

Hey, I started playing dayZ a few weeks ago, I've died so many times I've lost count, but something irks me. Why do I never go into shock? The little white icon where if you log-out you'll be unconcious? I get mowed down dozens of times a day, but I've yet to see the little shock Icon appear, what gives? Was it removed from the game? On a side note, what is the shock icon supposed to represent? A few people think its like an electrical plug being unplugged or cut, with lightning around it, but I always thought it was supposed to be a neurotransmitter, and the little "sparks" were supposed to represent the brain is under stress. Just interested what your impression of it is. Pictures for comparison:

Technically Combat Mode doesn't last as long as shock did. (Shock could last up to 5 minutes) In my honest opinion the best course of action would be to simply include both unless they cause complications if both are included at the same time. Just because abort is disabled doesn't mean someone couldn't unplug their computer, etc. Shock would punish you with a unconcious penalty upon login. Also as a poster said in the other thread, the combat icon can potentionally alert you of hidden enemies. Shock also could be triggered by zombies, something Combat Mode isn't triggered by. I think having both shock and the combat timer together would work flawlessly. This way people who force disconnection will still be punished. (Unless I'm completely wrong and shock is still enabled ingame.)

RIP GB Wireworld Vanilla DayZ Server - It was a lot of fun!
Toybasher replied to wireworld's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Sent in a request. can't wait to play! (My ingame name is Cordone, by the way, just so you know it was me.) -
If you could change the YOU ARE DEAD music to anything, what would it be? To get things started
-
I understand but it seems absurd to get this lucky for weeks! I closed doors on myself a few times ingame (Ususally to commit suicide, trapped with a broken leg, etc) and never had the shock icon appear, even if I take bullets to the chest. Ironicly I just noticed if you squint, it looks like two guys brofisting eachother from above, and now I cannot unsee it, lol.

Yeah, thats the chain icon. Anyone gone into shock with the most up to date version?
