Great guide for new players - tells you what each symptom means and how to cure!
Toybasher replied to marsmars's topic in New Player Discussion
Your character groaning and going "Fuck, that hurts!" is a bit glitchy. Re-log and it will go away. -
Is it me, or are the zombies MUCH more deadly in the mod? In the S.A. they move slower then you, and you can use your fists which are surprisingly effective against the zombies.

So people getting kicked and banned by Battleeye are hackers?
Toybasher replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Sorry if a bit off topic, but I always considered "Cheat"s to be a function built into the game, like cheat codes, toggle-able content after game completion such as "big head mode" etc. To me, "hacks" are external programs or data modification to give results not built into game functionality such as aimbots, teleportation, etc. -
Please for the love of god don't add "Sanity."
Toybasher replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Being honest a sanity mechanic might be pretty good but only if done correctly. I don't believe it should be trigged by shooting people IMHO NOTHING should ever punish playstyles. It would be cool though if your character is extremely dehydrated he hallucinates stuff, and after a few close encounters with bandits at nighttime he rarely hallucinates people shooting at him, etc. -
The survey may be over, but I realized there another gun I'd love to see added. I'd like to see an m1 Garand rifle. It might not really fit, because it's a little old, and a bit too American to see in cherno, but it would be a cool "civilian" type of rifle to come across.

Server owners restarting server to rollback their deaths...
Toybasher replied to Lowbi's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it was fixed, you can kick others, too. I don't think one even has to be an admin. -
Please add a suicide option, glitched to the back of the church

Respawn only works if you are dead/KO'd. -
Server owners restarting server to rollback their deaths...
Toybasher replied to Lowbi's topic in General Discussion
It's not just owners, a glitch allows people to vote themselves admin and restart whenever they want. -
Honestly the way condition works is a little odd. Like cans of beans, I sometimes see them in conditions like worn, or badly damaged. What does that mean? Do they offer less "Nutritional Value"? Can I get sick from them? Same with water bottles, do "Damaged" ones hold less water? etc. I wish it was explained a little better.

The chain link fence sound I think is just normal ambience. I heard it all the time on the mod, and afaik the fences only rattle as part of the ambience. I don't think it's even linked if there is an actual fence nearby. I do agree about keeping it in, but only in certain circumstances. Like if your character is extremely dehydrated, he imagines taking a drink or opening a soda, if he is starving, he might imagine opening up cans of food and eating. Maybe if he has a fever he hallucinates more, and imagines zombies nearby. If he has had a few close encounters with bandits, if he's been alone for prolonged periods, he rarely imagines a second set of footsteps behind his, or even the sound of someone reloading nearby, etc.

I personally think it is intentional. I believe they want to add to the "Urgency" of the survival situation by making tracking down some water your number one priority.

[suggestion] leaving footprints/bootprints

In a couple videos I saw footprints. -
Merino's In-Depth Video Guides (Feb 11th: Updated to 0.34.115106 New Status Indicators, Rebalancing of Hunger, Thirst, Stomach, Blood and Health Reg)
Toybasher replied to (TMW) Merino's topic in New Player Discussion
You have my beans. Extremely useful guide. You should make a second video on the health system. Your guide is extremely comprehensive and helpful, and your voice is awesome to listen to. Thanks for the guide. -
In terms of the "healthy" indicator and how food works, this video is extremely helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwNgTnj9hBE Apparently, being at high enough energy (Hunger) and water levels triggers two levels of regeneration, appearently the second one triggers the "Healing" indicator, and reaching full health while at this regeneration level triggers the "Healthy" status. Keep in mind, the "My stomach feels stuffed" etc is from the "Stomach" stat, and has nothing to do with the energy (hunger) stat. This causes a bit of confusion. Also, you spawn dehydrated, and you can hold quite a bit of water in your body. You can hold MASSIVE amounts of "energy" too. I've seen a few threads about people complaining about the thirst timer. This is because they are not drinking enough. Unlike the mod, drinking only restores a small amount of water, instead of a complete re-fill. You need ALOT of food and water to start regeneration. One last thing, messages such as "you feel tired" or "I feel like taking a nap" has NOTHING to do with sleeping, These messages indicate a low "Energy" stat. The energy stat is basically your hunger meter. Don't be confused by the vague messages. You need to eat if you see them. Sorry if this post went a bit off topic, but the video provided is EXTREMELY useful for ANY dayZ SA player.

I have not yet played the SA, but did a bit of research. Supposedly, using antibiotics/charcoal tablets/tinctures set your status to sick. Some people report it as a glitch. Either you're actually sick and the game doesn't update your status, or you're actually fine and the medicines set your status to "Sick" for some reason. From what I've read, you ONLY need the medicines if you're "Actually" sick. You'll get messages like "My stomach is cramping!" "My wounds itch." or "My wounds are badly infected!" etc. That is supposedly when you actually need medicine.

[ITEMS SUGGESTION] Post your Item Ideas here?!

Gas Lanterns. (I haven't yet played the standalone, supposedly they are in but have no functionality coded in yet.) Some kind of way to power the lighthouses. -
DAYZ STANDALONE TUTORIAL | Why is it ALWAYS night - How to find a Daytime Only Server
Toybasher replied to accurize's topic in New Player Discussion
What would the Z have to do with daytime/nighttime? Very strange. -
Although it wouldn't fit in much with the setting, a FAMAS rifle would be nice.
-
Even if this is a bug, am I the only one who thinks we should keep it? Perhaps if your character is dehydrated or has a high fever he'll start imagining things? Like being so thirsty he's imagining getting a drink, or he has a high fever and a few close encounters with bandits and he's put so far on the edge he's imagining people shooting or aiming at him, etc?

Zombies are extremely difficult to deal with. I never find a weapon, roam about five minutes, get chased by zombies I cannot lose, and eventually get killed, rinse and repeat. Any way to find a decent weapon? The zombies eyesight is EXTREMELY inconsistant! I've had a zombie mile away spot me and rush towards me, while the one much closer just sits there. I have issues losing the zombies too. They chase you endlessly! There is nothing I can do to prevent this, even if I'm prone, and moving slowly! The invatory system is EXTREMELY clunky. I've had cases where I pick up a hatchet and it is somehow "Out of Ammo." Why can't I use my fists? Will hand to hand be implemented in the standalone? I have not been paying attention to the dev progress of it. If I do find a weapon, it often falls victim to the backpack destroying items glitch. Will ANY of this be fixed in the standalone? The entire mod as a whole (And arma 2 in general, actually) Just feels "Clunky". It is seriously impacting the game for me and I honestly don't want to play anymore untill it is fixed.

I kinda agree. Obviously you shouldn't be told exactly whats wrong "Your left leg is broken!" but something more like space station 13 (a completely unrelated game) would fit better. Like "Your left leg hurts horribly as a sickening crack is heard!" "You feel sick!" etc.

The way death is presented overall is pretty underwhelming, actually. You don't even hear your own scream, just silence as you fall down with the screen all fuzzy while the K.O. timer comes up, as if your still alive, only to display YOU ARE DEAD a few seconds later. At least keep your death scream audible and have the screen shake or something, make it more dramatic.

Those are sting grenades you are referring to. I thought swat 4 did a pretty good job simulating what happens if you get hit with one. I'm not sure exactly what would happen IRL but I'd imagine it to be somewhat similar with being in alot of pain and wobbling around. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=5LX_AY8aTls&t=174 For dayZ I guess it would be somewhat similar. Blurred, red tinted vision (Much heavier then in SWAT 4.) muffled hearing, wobbly, delayed movement, possible chance to fall prone for a few seconds if one goes off right next to you, etc. For flashbangs, what would be interesting is if one goes off like right under you or something, you could damage your vision/hearing permenently. (Nothing severe though, just a very faint dimming of vision/hearing or ringing of the ears)
-
You mean maybe like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgd_fBAQE7w (The flashbacks change depending on where you are in the game) That would be a cool idea to see. I support this sugguestion.

I read the replies and I everyone makes very valid arguments. Its also impossible to say if being cured over time, etc would make sense not because it is never explained exactly what the infection is. I always assumed the enviromental, contact with other players, gunshots, rotten food, etc. were normal "Everyday" infections like colds, flu, food poisoning, bacterial infections, etc. Maybe infections from zombie strikes should have no chance of healing overtime. , It's just annoying as all hell to die because I caught what I assume is a cold or something from being out in the rain too long. Is the plague supposed to be airborne and being cold weakens your immune system, thus infecting you? Why the hell are antibiotics rarer then NVGs? I know its a zombie takeover so they should be rare, but going to all three hospitals several times, and finding none whatsoever is just absurd. I just wish either antibiotics were more common, or there were a few new ways to fight off the illness added to the game. (Resting, abillity to try and create medicine using plants found around chernarus, etc.)
