1.7.2 Opinion thread. All your opinions, good and bad, go here.
azrael72 replied to Denuth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We too, have noticed the inconsistent Zombie sprout rate. I've started calling it 'sprout' because that's what it looks like up close. Groups of Zombies sprouting up out of the ground before your eyes, and instantly coming after you even if you are well hidden and perfectly still. Most unsettling. I was playing around with them between the barn and the little brown house on the side road out of Kamyshovo to get an idea of their new behaviors, aggro range, spawn triggers, hit strength, etc. I don't know if it's intended or not, but it appeared that my proximity to a lootable building was the primary spawn/aggro trigger. I'd stop on the hill facing the barn entrance and see either a single zombie or none whatsoever. The closer I would sneak, more would start to spawn. Just before hitting the doors a group would come running at me from behind the barn. Mind you, this is the barn with only one entrance. There were also always Zombies already in the barn as well, hovering over any loot spawns. I refer to these guys as the "loot poopers". I have walked in on them in barns and warehouses squatting in the corners. They get up and come after you, you hatchet their noggins, go check their squatting area and voila...a double barrelled shotgun! It cracks me up! Sorry, I got off track. I would be able to clear the barn and head over to the brown house, but it's the same deal. The closer I'd get to the house the more the Z's would sprout. In both buildings though, if I held completely still they would just parade around whatever building I was in. I did not get attacked through walls, and as long as I was still they did not come in the doors. If I moved even slightly to exit the building they'd get pissed and start piling up at the entrances. I never, ever shoot zombies. I only use a hatchet. I don't even pick up guns anymore ('cept the .45 if I can find it). So I can't comment as to whether or not gunfire triggers increased spawn or aggro. In my experience it's become way more difficult to plan out your approach to loot buildings in this update. We've tried to scout buildings from afar, like we always have, and see not a single Z, only to have multitudes start sprouting and coming out from behind the buildings the closer we get. I can't exactly call it game breaking for me, because I/we have been able to sneak, corral them in a building, take them out. But it has certainly been frustrating and has made the experience incredibly slow for me. Must go so slooooow, all the time, makes me yawn. Oh yeah, I have yet to have a zombie break my bones in this new update. I get hit fairly often too, since I only use hatchet. I'm quite happy about that part :D . -
A new "Virus" is in game spreading to the forums
azrael72 replied to OrLoK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well orlok, Ubiquitous, I guess I must join you on the "archaic, self righteous, and pretentious" bench. I don't belong to any other forum communities-be they game or otherwise, but I am constantly shocked at the way people treat the ideas and observations of others. The knee-jerk, single word reactions to some people's posts, usually disparaging name calling, is disturbing to me on so many levels. My son belongs to various gaming forums and apparently responding by memes or insults is the prevailing behavior. I've made it a mission of mine to teach him to think...think before you type. If you have nothing constructive to add or cannot devolop a logical counter-argument without resorting to insults and rudeness, then keep your fingers away from the keyboard. How sad is it that the notion of thinking before you speak/type, responding with your words instead of silly pictures, or having an expansive vocabulary is considered archaic or pretentious? That being said, there's a lot of interesting and intelligent people on this forum if you are willing to wade through through the muck. And,of course, if you are willing to accept that pretty much every thread will devolve very quickly into pointless rudeness. Suggestions and comments about aspects of the mod, particularly those posts into which someone has obviously put a lot thought, deserve to be respected. Whether or not you agree with them. The three words most used as a cogent argument(grrr) I must use now... "It's an alpha". The very nature of this mod and it's being in a state of development blows the doors wide open to such an amazing array of diverse thoughts and ideas. Hell, I'd imagine a rather extensive psychology or sociology research paper could be done on how player behaviors, social interactions, decision-making occur in-game. Wow. My apologies. This went rather long. But orlok just hit on a particular pet peeve of mine and I simply couldn't help myself! -
Forced to shoot? No you just decided to, you couldve out run him using the barn to your advantage, as the zombies walk slower inside. Instead, you told every zombie around, where you were by shooting, then kept telling them by continually shooting. Noob effort. Not always the case. Let me tell you I ain't to proud to belly crawl! Earlier today, can't remember the server, but we were in Mogilevka(sp?) and crouch walking, belly crawling, the two barns and a pink house were not enough to save us. I had a hatchet, he had a Winchester. In a matter of minutes we were both dead. We'd killed around 150 Zs between the two of us and there were only 250 at most on the entire map. We were in the pink house with the 2 entrances back to back, we watched the zombies spawn continually outside the door as we killed them. There was an enormous pile of dead, we both started lagging very badly, and ultimately both died. I've had to kill a lot of zombies before to get out of a place, but generally we clear an area, get the goodies and get gone before more come. This was not a normal situation. I'll be honest, If I find myself in that situation again I will DC and go to another server. That's not something either of us has ever done, nor do we condone the improper use of DC'ing. Hopefully I'll have presence of mind to screenshot it if it happens again, but the claims of uber-wacked out Z spawn are real.

It wasn't my fault...IT WASN'T MY FAULT!

Wow. Seriously...The Panties in a Twist Brigade shows up en masse to chest-beat, and rant and rave over a silly video? One silly DayZ video out of the 824 trillion that accurately show game play... and now the DayZ mod will be ultimately destroyed for all time? It's like a bunch of street corner religious zealots screaming at passers by and waving their "THE END IS COMING" signs! And you all really believe that adding new players could make this community any more insane than it already, clearly is? It's just perverse. I love this mod too. (I'm terrible at it, but I keep trying) But I also realize that the true endgame is profits. Selling it to the masses. Despite the developing team's best intentions (and I salute them for it), studio/publisher profit will trump integrity. Cry, moan, shake your fists at the sky and ask God why he has forsaken you to the damnable Yog people. Maybe you should just up your meds. Either way... it's just business.

So are there now gangs of armed Bandits hunting defenseless Survivors?
azrael72 replied to Never's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've not been killed on the beach since the update. Mostly I'm killed by other players in town or even in the wilds where I used to like to spend my surviving time. It doesn't matter if I am armed or unarmed, how well or poorly equipped I am. My attempts to communicate with them make no difference. I play alone and have been killed by snipers, other jumpy loners, players grouped together. Of course the zombies get me too. I fight back against the Z, though, if I'm armed, but not against other players. My integrity is firmly intact. It's kind of like a one man army game with zombies now. Before the bunched up panties brigade starts flaming my post (those zealot pvp supporters)... no I'm not complaining... you play your way, I play mine. Sometimes I live 15 minutes sometimes I can get a few hours. No big deal either way for me. -
Yes, the Coyote Backpack has 24 slots I think. I actually found one once, and of course was promptly shot for it. I found it in the medical tents in Cherno. There were zombie soldiers I had to axe and there it was.

Scariest experience in DAYZ? SHARE!
azrael72 replied to cesar2224's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I experienced one (and there are quite a few) of my scariest moments ever yesterday evening. It was completely the making of my own stupidity/paranoia. I had just spawned and belly crawled my way into one of those warehouses with a catwalk where I usually find a hatchet in the little upper room. I pick up my hatchet and was heading back along the catwalk on my way out and happen to glance down to the one of the lower windows. I froze in my tracks. There was someone with an axe standing stock still outside the window. It looked like a backlit silhouette of Jason from Friday the 13th - waiting silently to hack me to death. I just stared. I was afraid to move, my skin was crawling, heart pounding, palms sweating - those catwalks make so much fucking noise if you move. I whisper to my husband (like whoever is out there can actually hear me), "There is someone out there waiting for me! WhatthehelldoIdo?" I was less afraid of the 4 or 5 zombies making their way up the catwalk stairs. He looks at my screen for a second and whispers back to me, "That's you, honey, it's your own shadow." "Move a little, see? It moves too!", like he's talking to a frightened 2 year old! I had completely psyched myself into full on frozen with terror mode over my own freakin' shadow! I could try a million times and probably never recreate that perfect alignment of sun,my guy and windows. It was an image straight out of a horror movie. It's little things, sometimes, that make this game really stand out from others. -
I'm friendly. (Azrael in game) I have never killed another player not even in self defense. I tend to lag a lot and it's makes me motion sick to spin round and try to defend myself, so it's pointless. I die, they get my stuff- usually not very good stuff- and I start over. Hey, whatever floats their tiny little boats, you know? I always say hi to anyone close and ask if they need anything and supply what I can. I've not been shot for it yet. Maybe because it's a woman's voice they hear. I sound motherly I guess. My husband and I always join servers together, Azrael and Will. I'm usually the one running like a lunatic across the map to get to him cause he's stuck on a roof and I die trying to save him. A woman's work is never done!

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
azrael72 replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, worth a try. DemonGroover beat me to it. I, too, would be curious to know how it would affect low humanity players who group together. I've never bandited/murdered, but I'm thinking about it,sadly. That constant heartbeat sound would make me nuts before long. Will there be some way to disable it for those who choose to play that way? -
I like Egochek's idea. I'm not great at shooters (I was born without the FPS gene) to begin with and have only played one other (Combat Arms), but, I like the DayZ concept and have been trying it. It does suck quite a bit when I'm trying to learn the game and get picked off by a sniper upon spawn, or just trying to get across the road...after having waited an hour (often more) to get on the map. I love battling the zombies though!! I've never fired a shot at another player, not on purpose anyway, and can't seem to bring myself to. Then again, I'm not a sociopath. Even IRL i'd have to be directly threatened before even pulling my weapon. I guess I enter the coop mindset when I play this game. I've been shot for not typing 'Friendly' fast enough as well. Hard when you have 50 Zs chasing you through town and your hand/eye coord. is apparently subpar like mine. I guess I'm on the fence. I understand that the real Zombie apocalypse would come with marauders, so it makes sense in that respect. As it is only a game, though, it would be nice to have a place for those who want to team up and just worry about surviving the Zs. Hell I can't even survive the Zs just to make it across map to join up with my hubby! Bandits? ....forget about it!:P
