Would love to see it. Something that definantly needs to be added.

Wait for SA or buy Arma 2:CO that is the question

I like multiple speed zombies including zombies with missing limbs etc etc. Need a nice variety to keep people having fun and trying to stay alive. Would also be nice if the handguns did more damage to the zombies. I would love to see some blood and chunks also heh. Imagine Dead Island zombies lol that would be damn cool. Ragdoll with physics oh my :) -
Yeah slow passive regen when your character is in optimal condition aside from blood would be ideal. I just eat like a pig if I don't have blood :)

Thinking of renting a server in Seattle. Would be really nice to be able to import and export the ban list. I plan on using the server alot and it would be nice if we had a community list we could start fresh with. BEC would also be nice. I've played on a few of these servers and they do run very well. As long as performance and up time was consistent I would definantly consider keeping the server up longer.

This is what makes Day Z so good. Eventually you will learn to survive. However you will make mistakes and pay for them but slowly you will get better and eventually have a camp and some supplies maybe even a vehicle or a bike. The bikes are alot of fun IMO.

Banned US 3055, added to community ban list
kwairt replied to Sickerthansars's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
That sucks. No really. Legit player being punished by an admin and globally banned for playing the game the way it was meant to be played. I'm sure it happens to alot of people. Finding a good admin seems to be hard to do and everyone is so paranoid. The other day I was playing and just doing my solo thing hunting for some game actually and a player was killed. He was actually blaming me on side channel and said I was probably hacking. Which was funny since I was like 150km from where he died hunting animals in a dense forest lol. On the other hand a day later I was ghosted and killed on US 3055 so I can see why people get paranoid. I'm avoiding that server now. Hope you get your ban lifted... -

I want it now like everyone else but sometimes circumstances arise you can't control. Currently I think Bohemia is going through a tough time. I have no doubt they will get through it but you can be sure it has caused a big delay on the project. I hope they take their time and release SA id style "when it's done" because honestly it has the potential to be one of the best games ever. Bohemia knows this and I'm sure they will put as much effort as they can moving forward. I just don't see this coming out any time soon. I would say another 9 months for an actual release at best. Assuming the situation resolves itself over there they will still need some time off probably. I mean maybe maybe not but I just don't see what good putting pressure on them to release early will accomplish. Once they get their boyz home they will probably want to go for a drink and hash stuff out. Personal issues aside I hope they get their lives back and things return to normal. Then we will have a better idea of what to expect. Best of wishes. -
The new screens of the building interiors look amazing no doubt about it. However from a performance perspective they don't really look very optimized. Sometimes instead of making it look realistic you just need to reduce windows and or use vis blockers on the door ways etc. Looking at the latest screens I see performance issues everywhere. This is one of the reasons the larger cities lag so much. It's not how many buildings but how many windows and doorways the renderer has to draw. Adding vis blockers and placing windows for performance instead of visual quality will help aleviate the stress on the systems in larger cities. This in turn will make the game more playable and enjoyable overall. It would also provide a more consistent performance across different areas of the game. For example when I'm out in the wilderness away from the larger cities my framerate rockets however when you are near the big cities with all these buildings and their windows it just dies a horrible performance hit. I would imagine almost 50% of the performance hit could be eliminated by designing the buildings for performance instead of visual quality. Again placing of said buildings is also important but with the current implementation and stand alone screen shots I can tell there will be a great deal of overhead wasted when it could be reduced and or eliminated. I'm no expert on the subject and there are many people who could explain this better than I have. Perhaps someone with some serious experience in performance optimization when it comes to terrain rendering with building interiors can shed some light on the issue better.

Optimize Interiors for Performance Not Visual Quality
kwairt replied to kwairt's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Was playing earlier tonight and noticed the problem again in some smaller cities where the frames will drop depending on how much interior your rendering. For example I was inside a building standing in the doorway looking out and across the street into another building that had two doorways that let me see through the building down the road and into ANOTHER building with an interior. This is the problem I'm talking about. There needs to be vis blockers to keep the performance consistent. It doesn't mean you need to throw up walls everywhere just redesign the entrance ways and limit LOS via windows into complex scenes. This also goes hand in hand with general engine optimization. I'm sure some of the builders at Bohemia have experience with this and it's probably one of the reasons they never bothered to do interiors on ALL the buildings. Like I said some simple geometry fixes and tweaks could go a long ways in making the game play much better in urban envronments small and large. -

Optimize Interiors for Performance Not Visual Quality
kwairt replied to kwairt's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm getting really good performance on the i7 2600k and a GTX 570 with the right settings. I haven't actually checked to see what it is but it definantly maintains 60fps in 1920x1080 in most areas even with Zeds. However the larger cities drop it to 15-30 like you said. Again though this seems to be directly related to "sceneComplexity" which I have set at "100000." Increasing the sceneComplexity has the most impact on framerate from what I can tell. I beleive it is related to the buildings themselves however Zeds further complicate the issue no doubt. For Day Z we don't want to use the GTA IV LOD because that would allow someone to shoot out but not been seen at max range. For Day Z you need a balance so that you don't need to use a trick LOD to get the desired effect. Simply limiting the explosed LOS from exterior to interior fixes this issue while keeping balance between someone inside and someone outside. I have no doubt that the newer engine will be more optimized and perhaps feature some advanced background culling or LOS performance optimizations in general. However these are still faily expensive buildings to render from what I can tell. Stand alone looks much more detailed geometry wise and texture wise with a few more objects also visible. My Settings: -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -nosplash -skipIntro -nopause FSAA=1; postFX=3; GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=2147483647; nonlocalVRAM=1610776576; vsync=1; AToC=7; PPAA=1; PPAA_Level=1; Windowed=0; sceneComplexity=100000; -

can hackers make the screen go all rainbow like or is that a glitch?
kwairt replied to hamish1001's topic in New Player Discussion
Easier said than done. Some have side channel open and building mods etc etc. Very hard to find server running latest version of vanilla with perhaps only a few customizations like no guilie or start with an axe or pistol etc. Plus looking for whitelist now with active admins that don't cheat either. -
Optimize Interiors for Performance Not Visual Quality
kwairt replied to kwairt's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I beg to differ. I find the performance in Arma 2 to be quite good under normal circumstances. Again it's just a few areas of the mod that have this lag due to the amount of buildings and their design. For example you don't see any windows in Skyrim at all. Other games will have windows but only some are actual windows. Limiting the amount of transition or LOS between the exterior and interior is critical in keeping performance up. For example a simple doorway with a wall behind it can completely eliminate the performance hit without sacraficing detail. If you look at the buildings in Day Z they all have multiple doorways with no vis blockers and a tonne of windows. This is a serious problem moving forward and it's not really that hard to fix. We don't really need 40 windows on a barn. We don't really need to render entire staircases of multiple floors with props either. Some simple performance optimizations on the geometry would solve these issues and still manage to look good IMO. Focus on the gameplay first and consistent performance. -
Looking for Private Whitelist West Coast Server
kwairt posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
After a great deal of effort to play the game by design I'm just sick of the hackers but this game is just too good to stop playing. I've been looking in the private hive forum but gah there are so many servers of various kinds etc. I'm looking for a good whitelist west coast server. I've never used the whitelist before but I'm willing to give it a shot. I would prefer a vanilla server _without_ extra buildings and vehicles for performance reasons etc. However I find the idea of starting with an axe or pistol appealing. If anyone knows a good west coast server like this with active admins that DONT CHEAT and a link I can use to apply for Whitelist then you will have two new legit players. Again if the server is good I would even be willing to donate to keep it running as it would be cheaper than renting one myself. -

Hackers can indeed control the time of day. It looks like this might be a rendering glitch when the hacker switches the time of day. Relogging would probably fix it. Also sorta looks like night vision mode. Either way it's a shame...I'm so tired of hackers im going to have to move on to something else. Nothing is legit in this game I'm sorry. -
I'm new, where can I find some hacker free servers?
kwairt replied to -Markain-'s topic in New Player Discussion
There are hackers on these servers also. All you gotta do is visit their forums and have a read. It's fucking sad that this game is where it is because of the hacking. Seriously I hope anyone who hacks in these games gets anal cancer and dies in a horrible house fire. Don't get me wrong I love the concept of the game and Arma 2 engine does it better than anything else right now but moving forward this design and concept deserve much much much better. War Z deserves the hacking they should all go over there but sadly everyone wants to cheat now because they fucking suck at these games. It's funny a survival game draws the hackers in because they are so bad at it they need to cheat. It's like WTF are you even playing this game go play CoD or something fuck off already. When stand alone comes out anyone whos been banned on Day Z should carry over. Ban them ALL every last fucking one of them. Make it require STEAM and ban them on an account wide basis. So sick of this garbage. There is really nothing you can do but wait for standalone and it sucks. -
The only real difference between the two is there are private servers for Day Z and for War Z there isn't. The hacker population in both is extreme.
-
They have ruined this game essentially. Would be nice to have a secure forum also but I guess that is too much to ask.

British armed forces improved textures?
kwairt replied to latiasracer's topic in New Player Discussion
To be honest I think it's lame that Day Z requires yet another expansion after Arrowhead to get the skins to work in high res. With the amount of sales generated by Day Z they can at least give us proper looking textures in the mod. Just another reason we need stand alone. Original textures should have been made for the mod or expressed permission from Bohemia to include them in the mod package. I bought Arma 2 for DayZ but I will not spend more money just to see high res versions of the skins lol. This should be patched and changed moving forward to reward people for purchasing Arma for Day Z. Not milk them dry like an EA cheap whore for skins. Anyways mod is good but this part of it sucks. -
Additional Buildings on private hive server
kwairt replied to guyver1's topic in New Player Discussion
Hackers can also spawn buildings and objects at will or change day and night in realtime like flicking a light switch. Not really much they can't do. However adding more buildings to say the Airfield is pretty weak to be honest. There is enough already up in the NW. Some other places might do ok with a makeover but you want to learn the game on the vanilla map which has more than enough to be honest. Some of the larger cities in vanilla are overdone and performance suffers because of density and scale. -
Should you Buy Arma II for DayZ, or wait?
kwairt replied to finkone's topic in New Player Discussion
If you want to get your feet wet and have some fun then sure. Just be warned there are alot of hackers in this game still and even with active admins they will slip through the cracks and gank you :) If you can handle losing everything because of that then sure buy the game there is alot of fun to be had. However stand alone will be much much better. Learning curve is fairly high due to bugs and inventory system etc. Items are easy to lose if your not aware of the bugs etc. Some times you drop something and it's gone forever. Or if you try to put a rifle in your pack it automatically tried to move all your ammo with it and anything that doesn't fit will vanish. So there are alot of issues with the mod really. If you can handle them and the hackers you will probably enjoy the game. There is really no game quite like this despite what other developers claim. I really have a hard time playing other games now. Like for example Far Cry 3 is an awsome game but man it's just tooo easy. I find myself coming back to Day Z simply because of the challenge (hackers aside). When you do finally get some weapons and gear up it's very interesting. In your early days you will just be trying to survive. Eventually you evolve into something completely different though. -
Should run well but you need to understand the buildings in DAYZ are not quite optimal design for performance. No vis blocking and or a plethora of windows etc. In rendering world there are some serious problems with some of the design aspects of DAYZ that will effect everyones performance. However that beast will run at a solid 60fps with decent settings no doubt. Also the lodding in this game is pretty bad. Setting object detail to sceneComplexity=100000; in the config file ensures maximum performance in large urban areas. However for the rest of the gameworld you will be able to run maxed with no issues. For my I7 2600k I find this setting to work well. I avoid using the MaxMem command as it will force the engine to stream 2047 chunks of memory at a time and this causes huge hitches on z68 chipset. You can safely increase max texture memory ingame though or via the config file. -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -nosplash -skipIntro -nopause Not sure about ATI with regards to pre-rendering frames but on Nvidia I find setting the pre-rendered frames to 1 via the engine and control panel to ensure maximum performance. The game is butter smooth in most if not all areas except some larger towns where like I said the lodding and optimization or almost non existent. GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; I think the only time you really need to render frames ahead is under low average framerate situations. Game runs like butter for most of the time over here but as a mod lacking some of that industrial lodding etc the game does suffer in places. Overall though you will be running silky smooth. There are some good guides to tuning performance on the site to find the sweet spots.

Guys, I want to come back to DAY Z! Please tell me there are less hackers!?!? I have a few questions!
kwairt replied to redmantab's topic in New Player Discussion
Had survived for 9 days. Had a full supply of guns ammo and food. Only to be killed by a hacker who teleported to me and ganked me. Then my buddy guns the hacker down and it says he killed me LOL. Then the hacker respawns as me instantly so my buddy kills him again same deal. Hacking is way out of control in this game. Every server I went on last night had a few. Even the latest version of the server with active admins. Just isn't enough. Damage is done. We need stand alone no doubt about it. Hopefully it's a STEAM release with VAC support also and perma bans for licenses via STEAM. I love this game and was actually having a great time hunting bandits until Charles Manson showed up... Needless to say I'm still playing but what a nightmare. I really need to find a SOLID active private server with a good mix of players. Or else I need to rent a server from Day Z Commander or whatever. Thought had crossed my mind. Game is extremely fun without hackers. I figured most would be busy hacking War Z where they should be but some still love to dance in Day Z. -
After playing the game for a while now I find tents to be almost utterly useless. Every time I've ever stored items they are always stolen. I mean I've hidden my camps so good even I can't find them but after a while someone does and everything goes poof. I'm sure the idea has been brought up before but I can't help wonder if limiting everyone to one tent and making the items inside secure would be better. I'm not even sure if I like the idea of people driving over tents. The reason I bring this up is after spending a great deal of time trying to make camps in a supply line I realized that tents are in fact almost useless. I can understand allowing players to use multiple tents without risk it would be stupid. However the idea of storing items safely in 1 tent seems reasonable to me. I mean if you die it's still going to timeout after 7 days. Making trips back to your tent from the coast can take a considerable amount of time. Yet when you get there it's been pillaged by players that do nothing but look for tents. I would rather have to make the players ambush the camp site in person or make it so that the tent can't be stolen from until the player dies. As of now I just find them absolutely useless. By the time I get back to the tent to try and eat some food it's long gone. Would limiting every player to 1 tent and making the items safe inside be too much for this game? I mean we have hackers on every server and bandits everywhere. I just don't see how the tent is even worth having if it's so useless. So far I'm on Day 3. I've managed to survive but not in any way thanks to my tents. In fact they have caused me more work and grief than anything. Which is why I kind of think they should be improved or removed. I mean a tent doesn't really hold that much. It holds enough food supplies and some tools. Bit of ammo and a few guns and some packs. I mean you can store a decent amount in there but nothing that doesn't take time and effort. Just seems pointless to have to put so much time into survival to have it stolen so easily. I mean hell give me a shovel I'll burry my food. I know alot of hardcore players won't like this idea. Maybe some will. I like to think of myself as a hard core player but I think a bit of leeway in regard to tents is in order. To at least make them have a purpose. Limit tents to 1 per player per life and make the goods safe inside until that player is killed. Forces some camp ambushes when people are online and would make for some interesting moments around the fire I'm sure. I just can't see myself using tents now or moving forward. It's more or a less a game of deathmatch with alot of luck due to spawns. Unless tents are made secure and limited I really don't see the point. I realize this has probably been beaten to death already. I did search but couldn't find anything so I figured I would just post in the new player section. I don't like the idea of a 100% secure storage location like War Z. However with 1 tent and some limitations I think it would still be hardcore just with a bit of reason for people that are actually trying to survive.
