Ok so I've put in around 40-60 hours and have learned how to survive and what buildings etc to look for said items. I've used tents to make supply stashes and wandered around like sam fisher looking for friends. Now what though? I don't know anyone playing the game and hooking up with other people in Day Z seems almost impossible and for the most part pointless if I'm able to survive on my own. I'm bored of hiking all over the map to find no vehicles or going back and forth between towns to try and get some decent spawns (server switching is lame). So i've put in my time and lived to tell about it. I have some decent weapons and what not but I just don't feel like murdering people. I've never murdered anyone. I've just learned to live alone and survive. However now what? To be honest I'm sick of eating 6 or more times a day thats not very realistic at all. I'm tired of doing runs into town to store stuff only to have it stolen while I'm out looking for the next batch of supplies. Occasionally a fence or door breaks my bones so I have to go back to a hospital to get some supplies. Or eat alot of steaks and canned food to get my blood up. However now I'm totually bored. I figured I would try and get a vehicle and park it and fuel it etc but those are few and far between and usually never on their spawn locations. I find myself loading Black Ops 2 again just to get my shooter fix or playing Chivalry to get some fun out of the time spent. I dunno maybe I'm doing something wrong in DayZ but it has gotten to the point of where I ask myself why am I even bothering to survive or get supplies when I can just respawn and grab more and live for the moment. Surviving seems boring if anything. Ive gone to great lengths to hide my camps which also seem to get raided in the middle of nowhere. Anyone have any advice?

Night vision seems very unbalanced in this game. Almost to the point of where it should be removed. Especially with the hacking.
-
I'm over here by the trees
-
That is a hacker spawning objects and buildings. Until server reset they wont dissapear.
-
I only see a few decent private hives and most aren't even running the latest version of the server. In fact finding a server in general running the latest version is very slim pickings and most are overpopulated. Can you recommend a good private server? I don't really see how that will help the situation but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Trust me I've spent a great deal of time trying to conceal them. Somehow they still are found. I suspect hackers can probably teleport to objects etc but I haven't ever looking into the hacking side so I'm just assuming for now. Obviously putting sites on the top of every damn mountain is silly. Hiding i out of the way of travel and under trees etc is good. However being that I travel always on foot I have to spend a good deal of time getting supplies to store them. By the time I come back to use them they are gone. Ive done this all under the cover of darkness making sure to not be followed or spotted from the air. It's just not enough though. So I guess I need to join a team where camps are guarded or what not. I dunno just seems pointless to me now as a solo survivor.

Ok so why can't I burry some food in the ground? I mean sometimes you need to make things a bit more accessible. I understand the mindset of the game which is basically KOS everything that moves and steal everything that isn't nailed down. Run ove the tents if you have a vehicle. I get it. However the point that some are missing is the game is nothing more than a big deathmatch right now. Sometimes you need to make it a bit more accessible to make it worth the effort. The map is huge yes but it's not big enough to hide camp sites. There isn't enough terrain out of the way to make it properly feasable. This is why I suggested limiting the amount of tents and storage capacity. To balance the accessibility to allow players to safely store items until they die. People die all the time so once they die you can steal their stuff and they will have to go back to their camps and take as much as they can and relocate it or whatever. Que the campfire ambush. I don't find that too easy by any stretch. Also I have changed my mindset which is why I won't be bothering with tents anymore. Instead I will travel light and just KOS everything I see and take their shit. No point trying to camp in the game. Hence why i think they are useless. The amount of time and effort required is just not worth it. That is my mindset now.

It's very easy to deduce with the recent happenings with Bohemia and everything else that the game will be delayed. Whoever actually thought it would ship this year must have been very optimistic. Let this game mature slowly without the pressure. It will be good when it's done but there is no need to rush this. Day Z is still a better game than War Z will ever be and the people who purchased Carrier Command are still waiting for a proper patch to fix the garbage pathing etc in that game. Plenty of things to do over there. State of Decay is also only single player so aside from War Z there isn't much to worry about. No other developer has an engine that can handle maps this big either. Ball is still easily in their court at Bohemia. It made for an entertaining holidays that is for sure. I didn't sleep two days watching the War z stuff. Rocket needs to have some rum and coke and relax. Nobody is going to roll in and steal Day Z. Anyone else that is capable of such a game would be too afraid to even try and produce and market it. 15 bucks for DayZ and Arma 2 is a steal really. Both games are good and offer something nobody else does.

http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/ Check out the dev blog and what to look forward to. Keep in mind Day Z is a mod built on 2 games essentially. Moving this to a standalone will improve features, security, performance, and well basically make it a much more enjoyable game overall. It will still use a hyrbid arma 2 engine but it will be built from the ground up for Day Z. Faster loading etc and better use of persistent database with secure back end. Removing all the data from the client and putting it on the server side to reduce hacking etc. Plenty of things the stand alone will improve on just by being a standalone from the ground up.

If you look in your character profile you will see there are quite a few different options for character appearance and voice etc. Many don't realize just how many options there is in there.
-
Well then where do I sign up for your team? I'm really tired of trying to make secure camps and spending all my time trying to build up supplies to survive. Risking trips into cities for medical supplies and shit that I can't normally carry is just insane. I risk enough trying to get the supplies let alone store them. Again why can't I just burry them like anyone else would? Shovels? Anyone?
-
Well that is just it. Hackers hackers and hackers. I've put alot of effort into hiding my tents from air and land. In places I can safely have a fire off the beaten path etc. Driving over a tent is one thing but stealing everything inside is another. If you couldn't drive over them then you could make barracades so I understand that logic. However with everything that goes on in Day Z I just don't see it taking away from the experience if they were limited but secure until you die. Even if the tent was reduced in size it would would offset some of the secure storage risk vs reward elements. Having 1 tent wish secure items in Day Z doesn't make it too accessible in my mind. It would give more reason to survive to ensure your tent is safe. Everyone just running around ganking everything. It's more of a hiking simulation with guns. Hell why can't I burry some food then? At least let me burry some food and water and tools. I mean that would be more realistic than tents. However I do like the camp idea and the groups that can form around it. It's just right now I don't see the point.

So yeah its a good thing I carry Morphine etc etc. I've officially been killed by a door and last night I vaulted over a fence and it killed me. LOL Hopefully this kind of stuff will be fixed for Day Z standalone.
-
First thing I did when I loaded Day Z was rebind most of the keys etc. I use middle mouse to use objects. F is my inventory key for fast action related to the movement keys. Hitting G and or I is just too slow. However when I was killed by the door I was actually standing back from it and it swung open and just as it made contact it killed me. The fence was brutal I hit V as I normally do being right up next to it. I'm starving with no food and thirsty. All my camps have been raided. I'm forced to make a move to the nearest town and hope to get some supplies only to be killed by a fence.

Heh if you play on the standard map it will LAG like no tomorrow in the big cities. This is because the game is so unoptimized and actually has many design flaws like buildings with 3 entrances and no vis blockers and a plethora of windows the engine has to render. This is bad for performance. Hopefully they will improve Day Z standalone and redo building models with proper vis blockers and entrances etc. They can do away with most windows to improve performance. Even with Arma 2 dialed to support 4 cores and extra threads running on lowest object detail and settings you will get lag in Elektro and Cherno. Hell just being near those areas your fps drops. It's a constant battle to tweak settings and find the sweet spot for Day Z. Even then it will be less than optimal. We need some solid game design on Day Z stand alone to fix some of these issues. Not to mention some performance enhancements with the engine. Background culling and removal of all these excess objects being drawn when you cant see them would be nice.

I don't even see the point in tents if they are spammable and don't allow you to safely store shit. I've hidden tents in many places some so remote... Still they get raided. Now I'm just not going to bother. I was trying to build up supplies but it's useless. Day Z is just a giant deathmatch game. So just spawn in and do like the rest. Run to the guns and if you die respawn and do it again. No point in actually surviving. It's alot of effort for nothing.

First post! Finally picked up Arma 2 and DayZ on STEAM sale today. My first post after playing for just over an hour. Once I was in the game I was impressed with the Arma 2 engine and started tweaking settings. Took me a while to get the controls setup and learn some of the basics of DayZ. Game looks and feels great. Should hold me over until standalone which I will _definantly_ be pre-ordering on STEAM. Thank you for this great mod to everyone involved. Merry Xmas everyone. Also thank you to the guy who didn't gank me while I was sitting on the beach binding some keys enjoying the view.

Ive been playing on a private server which seems very stable and no desyncs. Also I've spent alot of time roaming the lands at night. I find I can scav better at night even if it is a bit slow going. As far the darkness man can it get creepy. I was looting a town the other night and I looked out a window that had zombies going by and I saw a big fire off in the distance. I went to check it out and it was a crashed chopper with zombie soldiers everywhere. Good place to get ammo as I started chopping up the zombies. Darkness is amazing in DAYZ. I had no idea about lunar cycles but man it really does create a good atmopshere with the flash lights etc. Figured out how to use chem lights and flares etc. I hear there is night vision but I've yet to find this myself. Lighting in day z looks awsome. I bet driving a car at night is great for travel with the high beams on. I had to sneak into cherno for med supplies in the dark yesterday. I'm used to the dark now and it doesn't bother me. Altho dealing with other players in the dark would be a pain in the ass if they have night vision. Almost certain death for me using a flashlight lol. Does night vision require batteries? Heh I spent Xmas Eve roaming the apocalypse in the night. Was a bit hard after the 5th or 6th rum so I decided to make camp.

I know it's supposed to be hard I love it. I'm getting used to it. Even night time. I had some flares and chemlights. Didn't know how to use them until today. Really is dark at night but it's doable. I had a knife last game and meat but never did find matches. I starved to death again with a good selection of gear. Food is getting the best of me. Always cans of empties wtf is with that. Also where do I get matches or are they just random in barns etc? So damn addicting =) I love how there is no stash etc and it's all hardcore rogue like heh. Brilliant game. This map is just heaven also. So big. All I need now is a radio in my ride heh. Can't wait to get fully rocking with a tent and vehicle etc heh.. ONE DAY Z

How many rounds does it normally take to kill someone with a pistol? =) Some sniper out of no where finds me in the middle of the map and I shot him a good 3 or 4 times at least but he just 1 shot me from the hip. Then the admin kicked me like wtf. LOL Oh well I had a good run that time. I just think he should have dropped considering it was veteren and all that heh. -

How common are hunting knives? So many times im starving and cant do anything but drool.. :) -
I seem to spawn by the big cities all the time. Is there no more spawn points in this game? Are all the good weapons just in a few places? Ive had bags of guns and ammo and no food or water for 8 hours. Especially food it's so rare. Why don't we have a hunting knife or something in this game to spawn with. That way I can at least hunt when scaving isn't an option. I have come across a hunting knife before but only 1 in about 30 hours of play. Please dont say run into the big cities and grab food etc. Even with all the tweaks the big cities lag hard enough for me to want to avoid them. They are always camped and people clean them out on a regular basis. So why am I always spawning near these locations. If the game is supposed to be deathmatch then make the map one city. This is a great mod and concept but I feel like so much is not tuned and or setup correctly. I mean really I'm just dropped into the apocalypse with a flashlight? Oh that reminds me night time... Why is it pitch black. Don't get me wrong ive had some insanely cool moments in the pitch black with the flash light. Including looting other players in scary places but why is it so damn dark. I mean you cant even see your hand in front of your face dark. Is this a limitation of the HDR lighting or is it purposely set this way. Hopefully this is adjusted moving forward as most night servers I find are empty. Campfire looks hella cool in pitch black sure but who in the hell is gonna sit around a campfire for a night cycle that lasts as long as it does? Does sitting by a fire rest me or something else then just provide light and warmth? Does it get cold enough to freeze? I keep finding hotpacks even more so than food heh. Can I get a fishing rod and fish or anything? So many questions :)

Ive played for a few hours now. I have all my controls down but yeah figuring out how to use inventory and switch between weapons is still a bit dodgy for me. I thought we would be able to hold an axe or something and a firearm at the same time but apparently not. I did figure out I could put stuff in bags but it's still a bit tricky. Does the flash light even work? I mean I can do everything but get it to work even after 2 hours of keybinding. So for now its like my don't shoot me weapon of choice. I do usually have my gun lowered also. Very cool game. Took me a while to get the headset setup correctly and figure out channel systems. Still much to learn. Going into or near large towns is very dangerous. I have no idea where I am on the map and I love it lol. It's so realistic. The map size allows me to learn how to play the game to some degree before going into tougher locations etc. Still so much to learn. I can't wait for the standalone. Building the game from the ground up for this type of mod should allow it to be much easier to use and more optimized. So many Arma 2 keybinds I dont think I need making it alot more confusing but I'm making progress. Love how you can sling a rifle over your shoulder. I just wish I could hold an axe while the rifle is on my back. Maybe I already can and just don't know how :) I've almost been eaten a few times trying to fiddle with stuff heh. Zombies sure do run fast and chase far. Wish they would tone that down a bit so I can at least run away a bit easier. Love how they hear though and come a running. Just a bit much benny hill when they are full aggro lol. Imagine Dead Island zombies in DayZ and that would be hella cool.
