  1. Really, are there servers where you spawn with a DMR? Why the fuck don't people play ARMA II instead then?

How many people play DayZ with TrackIR?

I've used TrackIR with ARMA II, and it's allmost impossible to live without now. I highly recommend this, as it helps alot with situational awareness. I also turn my head around in other games now, and especially when seeing ARMA II videos on youtube :P It takes a little while, but it becomes second nature very fast. If you don't know if it will be worth your money, try free track first, or facetracknoir or what it's called (I haven't tried facetrack). Free Track requires that you have a webcam you don't use anymore and know alittle about solidering, but it's not hard to do. It's not equally good as TrackIR, but it works. Just alittle more sensitive to lighting conditions. http://www.free-track.net/english/

    Death race 2012/2013

Hi! I had an idea yesterday, that I thought might be kind of cool. However, it requires some effort from the community and might be a bit difficult to organize. In addition, I won't be able to participate in any non-european servers. However, I don't mind if people wan't to copy this event anywhere, it would only make it even cooler. So, my idea was this! Let's have a race! Let's find a server, let people sign up as participants and race from the south west corner of the map, to the north east corner, following the coast line the whole way. At the end, we will have a prize ceremony, and the price can be for instance a ALICE pack full of goodies, depending on what I am able to collect, or people could even race for pink slips. So, what do we need? We need at least two or three vehicles, if not more. No restrictions on what vehicles are allowed, it can be everything from a bus to a bike and everything in between. The only restriction will be that it must be a legit road vehicle, acquired by legit means. There will be no restrictions on spare parts or extra gasoline brought on board the vehicles. We also hopefully would need a Huey with people both as pilot and as gunners, who will record the event and hopefully comment while recording. A Live stream would be kick ass! And I would also suggest that we have no restrictions on other activities on the server, so the teams who participate face the real threat of other players and all the zombies around. However, the teams themselves (the ones who are driving) are not allowed to be hostile towards each other. It would also be kind of cool if participants could disclose the time of the actual event, so that the only ones who knew about it would be the ones who participate in the event. The reason for this is to create authentic situations, where other players on the server react as they normally would when they heard or saw a vehicle. If people are interested, I will start collecting prices and accepting donations sometime after this weekend, or find someone who can help me do so. Just as a reminder: To be able to pull this off, a huge deal of social trust is required. Don't be the asshole who ruins the experience for everybody else... let me know what you think! - aLmAnZo

    Death race 2012/2013

I get your point. I have little experience with private hives though, but if a server admin allowed for spawning in vehicles for this purpose, I can't see the harm in it as long as the vehicles are deleted or blown up afterwards. But I think the replies I've got in this thread makes one very important point... It shows how far it is between idea and realization of that idea. That being said, I still hope to achieve this. Furthermore, one commented that this might not suit DayZ. I do get his point, but I still think it adds something absurd, and that's why its fun. Just look at how popular the party bus became! I think it might add an element of stress relief. And I don't think it's totally unrealistic either... No matter the circumstances, people do have a need for fun, and to escape reality. Just think about how dark humor is used for people who have been through tough and hard experiences. From an outside perspective, things like that might sound absurd, or even uncalled for, but we still do it. Heck, why do we even play games, if not to have a way of escaping reality, just for a few hours? Anyways, it seems like people are interested in doing something like this. I'll work some more on the concept during the weekend. If you are interested in helping out, feel free to send me a pm. And remember, I will not be angry if someone tries to do this on their own, with their own rules and regulations. I think it would be rather cool actually. I am all for sharing ideas.

    Death race 2012/2013

Thanks for sharing... Alot of great ideas there, and I've been having a few of them myself. I think the main thing is to get it out there, and for me, the helicopter filming it all is crucial. The thing is, making it over complicated my make it impossible. A few small adjustments and a few rules is better than many as I see it. I would like to have it "secret" though, with only the drivers and the organizers knowing about it, so that other players on the server would react authenticly towards any vehicles. And I agree, the teams is not allowed to attack eachother directly.
  6. I donno if it helped him, but I've never heard of that mod. Checking it now. Awsome, thanks!
  7. ARMA is a good game in it self, and if you have time and energy to try out what ARMA has to offer except DayZ, I'd say go for it. If you have limited time or interest in the military simulator aspect of ARMA, then don't bother buying it. If it's only DayZ your interested in, wait for the stand alone. Be aware though, that you'd miss out on one of the most unique game experiences available. I would recommend you go on youtube and look at different game footage videos from ARMA II to get an idea what ARMA is about. It is, even though I love the game more than any other title, not for everyone. Search for things like "Shacktactical", ACE, ACRE, Domination, Project Reality and so on, and check out sidestrafe and his videos from the game. Good luck to you mate. let us know what you deside! :D And welcome to the community.

    Death race 2012/2013

First of all, thank you for replying. Hm, it depends. The idea is to get from point a to point b as fast as possible. I've done races in ARMA before, and usually people tend to screw up on route since it's rather difficult to drive fast in ARMA, especially in a competitive environment. Remember that cities like Cherno and electro is filled with road blocks and obstacles, with loads of alternative routes. I am almost positive that at least 2/3s of the people who starts off at the starting line, won't make it the whole race. We could have them take a different route as well, maybe from electro to stary sabor via cherno, or even have the finish line at the air port.

    Sins of a hacking gamer...

The point was that people find it ok to treat this person as he was the worst kind around. My point was exactly that, there is no comparison, yet people feel justified in treating him like he was the scum of the earth. And I honestly do think that the world would be a much better place if we could just learn to let things go, accept people who say they are sorry and get over it. Why fight an enemy who isn't there. Why not embrace it. And then there is the psychological point. When someone admits their flaws in front of everybody, especially when they had more than enough chances of no one noticing it, and people react by making judgement and rage, the chances are way higher that they would think "screw this shit, I'm going to keep on doing whatever wrong I did". If more people instead forgave and moved on, the message was that coming clean actually benefits you, and that might even reach others who are guilty of the same thing.

    Sins of a hacking gamer...

As I said, it's easier just to simply buy the game all over again (summer sale on steam) and just act like it never happened. The one thing that made his post valuable was the fact that he didn't once whine to get his account back, he accepted the fact that it was permanently banned. Whether or not he is planning to buy the game over and keep playing or not is simply irrelevant, because neither way did this post do anything to help him. If he hadn't posted, and bought the game over, nobody would have known that his nickname was "dirty"... Now we know. Tell me, what can he possibly gain from this post, if his intentions aren't as he is stating? What would he win for lying? Sympathy? Hell no, just look at the responses. The point isn't that people act this way against hackers, it's a very common trait among humans. If someone makes a mistake, and it becomes public, everybody can't wait to express how awful they think people are, and make it clear how much better they are than them. To fight that urge is a very unique trait, and a rare one. We all do mistakes, and have no problem admitting that we might do... however, we rarely admit them when we are talking about specifics, and we tend to forget about our own flaws when someone else shows their flaws... It doesn't matter whether it's about cheating in games or talking behind someones back, it's the courage of putting yourself in a position where you are vulnerable that is admirable here.

    Sins of a hacking gamer...

It's damn well not a problem getting a clean slate... he could have bought the game again, telling no-one and stopped cheating. By doing what he is doing now, he instead have the balls to actually take responsibility of what he did, and there is respect in that. Oh, and one more thing. This weekend one guy bursted into a movie theater, killing almost 20 people, injuring more, as you must have heard. One year ago, on this exact date, one of my best friends was killed in the Utøya terrorist attack among 68 other people, in addition to those who died in the Norwegian governmental office... Cut this guy a break, there are people who are much, much worse than hackers... it's just a video game after all... Try to see things in perspective.

    Sins of a hacking gamer...

What people need to realize is that nobody is perfect. Come on people, don't come here and act like angels who have never done anything wrong in their lives. Everybody makes mistakes and does bad things. What separates good people from the bad, is the people who have courage enough to admit their mistakes and make up for them. He came here to say he is sorry to you all, and he has come to terms with his punishment. Digital_Insanity, I have this to say to you: I have much, much more respect for you, than I have for all the assholes in this thread telling you your a bad person just to feel a bit better about them selves. The only way to lead a good life is to admit ones flaws and try to build on ones strengths. And yet again, I enjoyed reading your so-called "wall of text", it was one of the most thoughtful and well written posts I've read on the forum. I do hope you'll be back actually, if you can afford it. I trust you not to make the same mistake again, as I am sure you are not going to. A game like DayZ especially, is fun due to the fact that you are afraid of loosing the precious gear you acquire. Sometimes you do loose it anyways, either out of lack of knowledge (like in your case), or due to glitches... It is annoying, but once you cross that line, it's so easy to just do it one more time... and then the experience is ruined until you actually manage to stop cheating. In the end, the one you are cheating the most is yourself, you are in effect ruining your own experience with the game.

you need to install the beta for ARMA II. I recommend using the six updater tool from http://www.six-updater.net If you still have problems, pm me.

    DayZ CA_Dubbing_Counterattack

Run ARMA II on steam first, make it load then quit the game. Then right click operation arrowhead and choose run ARMA II combined operations. Close it, and use six updater as you have done, make sure it's Combined operations = forced If you run into any more problems, feel free to PM me and I'll help you out on skype
  15. Hi! I just got an idea... ARMA resembles an operative system more than it resembles a computer game. It has indeed become more of a platform than it is a game, at least it has for me, who plays with different mods at different times. As such, it might not be the most user friendly thing in the world, especially not for those who are new to the scene. So, I thought, why not help out? My idea for this thread is to get all the people who are willing to help to one thread, so people who have trouble might have a place to start. It's a resource for people in need of help, but I do not intend it for people to post their questions in, rather I intend it for people who are willing to help. If you are willing to do so, simply reply to this thread so people can see your user name. The rules is simple, if you have questions or problems with installing DayZ, simply send me (or hopefully some of the other support guys who shows up) a PM, and I'll send you my skype adress and talk you through the process. If you could share your screen, that would of course make it easier, but it's not a requirement. My motivation for this is simple. I love ARMA and would like to contribute so that more people get to enjoy the game. In addition, I've encountered several threads requesting help for simple problems who are a pain to explain by typing. I've felt the urge to encourage people to contacting me directly several times, so that they can get up and running quick. Efficiency is key here, I hate it when new players have to make a thread, then several posts when new problems occur. I will not be able to help with all sorts of problems, but at least I can help you get up and running if you have trouble figuring out how to install DayZ. Disclaimber: I do not guarantee that I respond to each request, and I will not be able to handle all this by my self. This idea only works if other people contribute as well. This is a free service, done out of care for others, don't expect instant response and a guaranteed fix, I will do what I can. At the same time, I might stop helping people some time in the future as well.

    Anybody want a... war?

You do realize that ARMA II is a war simulator, right? The only thing dayz does, is to add respawnable loot and zombies. Why not organize a clan and start playing ARMA the way it is designed to be played... I mean, if it is a war you are after... the game is built for it... This is one match with 75 players vs. 50 defending. It is more than possible to do in smaller scale also. If you are interested in warfare, and your friends are too, why not drop me a PM? I play in a community with tactical training, huge, unique missions and as warring as you'd want. We also play DayZ between games. I can asure you, ARMA in it self will make you love it if you like that kind of gameplay. Good luck mate!

    Suggestion: Camelbac

I think it's typed like this. It's simple, as it is now, i believe some of the models allready has camelbac systems. For those who doesn't know what it is, it's simply a small "backpack" with a hose filled with water that you carry under your larger backpack. This way, you'll be able to fill it with water (by pumps or lakes) and maybe be able to drink from it 5-10 times before needing a refill. Of course, this needs to be a rare item, found in military camps (military forces uses this in real life) and in hunting towers, as they are used by hunters as well. In addition, you might trow in drytech food in military camps, stores (rare spawn) and hunting towers. Full of nutrients, yum yum.

    Confirmation on Respawn Button

    I agree
  19. aLmAnZo (DayZ)

Just a few suggestions...i have a so many.

The weapon modification won't work in ARMA II. Some mods have worked around it by switching weapon models on command, but the problem is that each custom build of a weapon requires a unique weapon model. So let's take the enfield, and pretend that there are two available modifications for it, the silencer, and the scope. Then you need one model with the silencer only, one with the silencer and the scope, and one with only the scope. With only three options, that is three new models of the gun. If you add more modifications, like red dot sights, bipods, underbarrel grenade launchers etc. your looking at hundreds of new models. As much as I would love to see this in this game, I must disappoint you, it's close to impossible. In ARMA III on the other hand, it is possible, due to changes in the engine. I'm sorry.

    An apology

I was playing on PL 1 or PL 3 yesterday, and went to loot Berezino. I came down to the store beside the appartment buildings, and saw a guy sitting on the stair. Went around the back, snuck up on him and fired, only to realize that all he had was an axe. Found myself a compass, then a guy opens up on me with something that sounded like a Makarov. He missed me, I waited a long time and I wen't back to see where it came from, he opened up again, and missed. I went into the back of the store and waited. Then I heared the guy talking to me saying "I take it you are not friendly... You killed my friend, you are so dead now. You are so fucked you don't even know it"... Then I disconnected, due to the fact that my mic was not key bounded. It was the first time for 3 months I have killed someone unprovoked, and it was the second time I had killed anyone in total. The first guy I killed was part of a group attacking my group, so that was fair game. However, I feel bad about this. I am so sorry, and I hope that you'll be able to forgive me. I don't want to be a bandit, I find it more fun to help people. There where two of you, however, and one of me. You could have easily killed me, I should have just left the moment I saw you. Oh, and I'll end the whole story with another one, a nice story. I was playing with a friend, again going to Berezino to get loot. We where positive that we where the only ones there, since the server had like 5-7 people on it. I was wrong however, ran up to what I thought was my friend and I got shot. In his defence, he had tried to talk to us, without any luck. (wasn't close enough). Anyways, he killed me, and my friend killed him. I respawn, and start to make my way back (Lost my first and only ghillie so far btw), then a stranger joins our teamspeak, simply to appologize for killing me. He told us that he had met one of our members ingame earlier (both unarmed), and that he had played with our clan earlier that day. He saw our clan tag on the server and guessed that, since we where two together, that it was us. That's why he spoke to us also. When he didn't get a response, he opened fire. After explaining himself, we invited him to join us, and looted berezino together. It is possible people! And yes, this is what gameplay I aim to create. I am very sorry for killing you mate. The anger your friend expressed was justified, especially since you where practicaly unarmed. If you ever read this, contact me (I'll remember your nick if I see it) and I'll try to make it up for you. Have fun, and stay alive people!
  21. aLmAnZo (DayZ)

    Jesus. I'm so sorry, Andy.

Do you go around saying this to people in real life, regardless of what they have done? Telling someone to commit suicide is simply low, way low.... And I dislike server hopping myself
  22. aLmAnZo (DayZ)

-Dear Sniper who saw the van as well-

PM me, and I'll give you a crash course. Since we can't make friends ingame, why not trough the forum. I am not joking btw, I promise you that you'll do better than an Enfield in way shorter amount of time, as long as you lissen to advice. ;)

    Character wiped

same here, spawn in on a roof in Cherno, miles a way from north of Stary where I logged out. A friend of mine suggested this is due to hacking, and people are playing with my Player ID. If this is true, it must be adressed as fast as possible!!! I will not want my player ID to be risked!
  24. [7331] BomBom was his nick. And yes, it's quite obvious he was cheating, it's easy to see how he teleports.
