  1. Agreed, Pistols and SMG's are crossly under powered. They should have stopping power closer to the smaller caliber assault rifles, but with significantly lower range, lower rate of fire and lower accuracy. Right now anyone with a Pistol is only slightly more of a threat than someone with an axe. All of these values come from Arma 2 where gameplay elements are vastly different to what Dayz hopes to achieve. It's reasonable to assume that they will be more streamlined in the Standalone. The Winchester was specially coded for DayZ, that's why it uses a shotgun shell as ammo. It's a remodel of a shotgun from Arma2.
  2. I think much of the "bad pilots" are due to Arma2 airplane controls. I couldn't fly for shit with the default controls. I fiddled around with them and found a much more logical way to control the helicopters. Now i'm reasonably comfortable flying helicopters and my buddies trust me to be the designated helicopter pilot if we acquire one.
  3. You can't find it because no such date exists. Stand fast and look on the announcements section or follow the dayz dev blog on tumbler.

    1.7.5.1... not too far.

Zombies are a backdrop because there's several ways to deal with them. Losing them with line of sight as well as bushes and trees that are essentially a safezone glitch. So to state that "dayz+ and dayz2017" are "doing it right" is kind of off form the initial point. And that's what's wrong with the extended mods and the current patch. The zombies are made harder form the wrong places. And as long as the glitches are in the game, and they're so powerful in dealing with the backdrop, there's never going to be a balance of zombie difficulty that creates better gameplay. "Challenge" is this fairy tale that some players seem think would bring about better gameplay. That's so far from the truth it hurts to see these comments.

    Trolling hacker foiled

Awesome sauce! That's how you combat hackers, refuse to play their games.
  6. Haha! I love the fact that you had 3 assault rifles with a load of ammo and you still almost died.

    New 80M aggro radius.

Also there should be a difference with Agro and Attention. I feel the AI should react differently to different stimuli. Like a gunshot is a fight response. And then hearing someone run is only turn and make your way towards the sound and then agro if needed. Hearing other zombies should also be turn and make your way towards. It's one thing to improve the AI to make then think better. So that running through bushes and around buildings doesn't make you lose them easily. But it's another to use different mechanics that a player can't control to establish these improvements. It's clearly not in the vision of Rocket to make the zombies communicate like a squad. He wanted to get rid of all that bullshit. Make them streamlined: See an enemy - fight; Hear something - investigate.

Who else LIKES the new update?

I think the patch is lob sided. Some aspect were buffed to make it more difficult. Some of them were made needlessly artificial which almost breaks the game. And some aspects were made easier or more robust. Like for example eating raw meat is a great addition. Superior meat from rabbits is a bit silly, but it brings some depth to hunting animals for food. Making infection more prevalent in the world is a good addition. Zeds spawning while you're in a vehicle is very nice. Then some things are just really bad additions. Like zeds being able to hit you inside a car while you can't hit them back. Either both can shoot or none can shoot through broken windows, not just one. Zombies respawning as old ones are killed. What's the point of trying to clear an area if it's just repopulated at the same pace. Completely breaks the immersion of a static world.
  9. Have to agree with you. Few of the things in this patch are just idiotic and serve no purpose for gameplay. Zombies hitting you inside cars while you can't shoot out of the car. Provide neither or both, not just one. I'd accept them just pulling you out of the car when the windows are broken. More zombies spawn as you kill them. Effectively destroyed any illusion of a static world. This change cast Dayz down to the level of arcade shooters with infinite spawning enemies. Zombie agro changes. I haven't tested this but if the agro steppes are first Nothing and next Enfield, you've made a huge mistake in the code. Not being able to lose agroed zombies. What function does this play actually? They're already glitchy enough, now you make the run after you even longer? And with increased numbers through agro changes? Honestly! As I've understood this patch was community driven rather than Rocket made. I guess it's understandable. Rocket had the vision and he gave his baby away to work on the next better variation. It's inevitable that unworkable changes creep in to the design. Things like this happen when you don't work out gameplay balances properly.

helmets and by the way, make dayz for mac

There is no Arma2 for mac, so you're out of luck. Helmets protect you from shrapnel and the odd ricochet. And maybe make it difficult for zombies to knock you out. I'm sure we'll have those in the standalone when we get clothes.

    US 1441 Weird Hack!

Yeah i'm getting the sense it's you who did the hacking having read the threat a few weeks ago when this was done on another server. Won't be getting a rocket response this time i'm afraid. It's not new.
  12. I agree with you that making the game constantly gloomy is completely opposite to the theme of a realistic zombie survival. But I've seen no indication that rocket wants to do it like that. He's mentioned making the houses and the surroundings more apocalypse like, that doesn't mean left 4 dead style gloomy lighting. It means that floors aren't clean, walls may have dirt and blood on them and there's trash and filth everywhere as there's no-one to clean it anymore. But when it comes to atmosphere or weather I've seen no indication of change in that. When there's no clouds and the sun is up, it will be and should be bright and colorful.

How will we lose zombies after bugs are fixed

I believe rocket stated that hiding in bushes will still be an option. But since the bushes are redone in standalone it might not work as well and might contain glitches that kill you in new ways. I really wouldn't worry too much. The developers of standalone clearly have a direction in mind with the game and it'll be an anti-game that is just as cruel and unfair as the mod.
  14. Playing on a server during night, can't see shit because dayz won't let me change gamma. Found a bus with broken wheel only, off to Zeleno to find a wheel. Found a wheel, coming back to bus to repair. Out of nowhere zombie knocks me out when i'm repairing the wheel, bleed to death. Spawn in Cherno, run back to bus (long way) in total darkness. Body fused in to ground, hear the flies but no body. Entire kit gone. fml.
  15. With the new clothing systems Rocket's been promising in the standalone, that might be slightly addressed. As long as there are enough variations and colors, bandits would need to start carrying around one or two extra jackets to remain anonymous, could be fairly impressive. And since you can get diseases from other people's clothing you can't just do a quick wardrobe change hitman style whenever you become recognized.
  16. Exactly, and you should be recognized for that, but the game doesn't have a function for that. If someone saw you kill someone else, the second you log out, or run away and disappear in to the wilderness, your identity is lost forever. That person will never be able to recognize you ever again because you're a generic player skin that all the 20 people on the server share. That doesn't provide a static gameplay element in to a sandbox. Now I agree with you that the second generic skin, the bandit, is a bad thing and the function that gives it is not optimal. So that needs to be changed and improved, but you're grossly mistaken if you think your psychopathic ways should always be brushed off by the participants of the sandbox and your anonymity enforced in every instance. That's counterproductive to any iteration of any game, even an anti-game as Rocket initially called it.
  17. You're thinking it from the wrong direction. Because it's a game causality doesn't quite work the same way as in reality. And since in DayZ recognizing players is virtually impossible without nametags which is a horrible system in itself, it is feasible to have a bandit skin as the need for concealing your identity through disguise is moot. That's the difference between thinking through reality versus gameplay. In a post apocalyptic world there would be a chance of witnesses and certainly a chance of word to mouth. You would be known to be a killer eventually. Maybe not after your first kill, but certainly eventually. So it's more about gameplay than just pure anonymity. And working around certain faults in the game itself to provide a more complete experience.
  18. Well technically they would, since their face might be recognized as the assailant and make any communal living difficult. Any person with murderous intent would want to conceal their face. Even in a post apocalyptic world.
  19. Flies on a single corpse is enough in my opinion. Maybe having crows over several corpses only, like 3 or more bodies around a small area. Would bring about interesting player interactions when large amounts of player corpses would be visible to other players around the area. And players could drag corpses together(or apart) to make bigger piles, and that would bring about more intense numbers of crows. And players could set the piles on fire and dance around the fire to appease the god of death with their kill numbers. And as player corpses decay they could morph in to skeletal remains, low resolution entities that would be forever imprinted in to the map for as long as the map persists. Places like Elektro, Cherno and NWAF would be filled with the corpses of the deceased. Some piled up, some inside buildings and on rooftops. Oh man this idea went way beyond the topic....

    Remove Kamenka As Respawn Point

Kamenka is a reasonable spawn. The town has essentially nothing so it's not even worth going in it. Spawning on the other side of the bay is horrible also. But I like the loot run. If you spawn anywhere else you generally go to Elektro or Cherno. From Kamenka you go north checking the deer stands and then head to Zelenogorsk for the rest of your supplies. If you're not decked after that you're incredibly unlucky or someone just made the run before you, which is basically the same. I do tend to spawn in Kamenka more than anywhere else, it's annoying if you're playing with friends because it's highly unlikely that they'll be anywhere near kamenka so the run to catch up to them is always long regardless if they're on the coast or inland.
  21. He is scratching on the surface of truth though, the problem with the mod is that everyone is generic. There is hardly any distinguishable feature or behavior available to recognize different players from each other. The intentions of any one individual is only apparent after an action has been taken, and that's too late. So the concern is valid, there needs to be some system for recognizing different players. That's something the standalone will hopefully fix. Having different clothing is a big step forwards. Having a different skin that relates to your choices in the game is not a good function. Dayz is about anonymity, it's a major aspect of its appeal.
  22. Yeah floogy, teach them how shooting the m82 from the hip is an effective means of close quarter combat!

    Thoughts on the M107 / AS50

It would be quite difficult to imagine the AS50 or M107 making an appearance in the standalone.
  24. Jonsse

    Disadvantages To Carrying/Using AS50/M107

Currently weight and length of a gun makes no difference in DayZ The m107 is 140cm long and weighs 14kg with every bullet weighing at 650grams each. In comparison a Smaller gun like an MP5 weighs 3kg and is 35cm at the shortest. It's quite unbalanced that both of these guns are equally easy to manage in a short range gunfight. When there's no disadvantages to using any one weapon the guy with the biggest gun will always be the winner. Just the fact that you can run around at the same speed with both of these weapons is quite unrealistic.
