there's a lot of room in dayz for new items, and especially new rare items. i found a flanged mace for the first time yesterday and it got me thinking that the more random and unpredictable the game is, the more enjoyable it is. so i think that eventually there should be a rather large list of totally obscure items that are irresistible to pick up, while not exactly being useful. i'm talking anything from gamedude not-so-advanced's to air cannons and persian rugs, speakers, petrol generators, skis, scuba gear, medieval armor and cloaks, business suits, selection boxes of biscuits, new colours of laces for your shoes, bird cage/animal cage, watches and muh bling, gold bars so you can make a throne for yourself, civ quad copter drones, RC cars, trenchcoats, guitars, skateboarts, shopping trollies and bikes, composite bows, spices and herbs, salt and pepper, things to improve already cooked food, "spy" glasses that have a camera looking backwards (those silly mail-order ones), TV remotes and nokia phones for crafting improvised bombs, books that give access to improved passive skills IE ability to make a better ashwood bow by reading a random book, small bookshelves, small fridge and toasters (appliances for the generator), microphones and loudspeakers. all the random stuff that you can think of that you know people would want. this would be to balance out all of the rare military gear planned like SVDs etc. with rare civ gear. also, endgame should be barricading yourself into a remote house and filling it with treasure then shouting at people through your PA system to get off your land

on 50 player servers a lot of the spawns are devoid of loot within a 1km radius. the current spawn system also makes it very easy to navigate. a good player will be able to work out where he is to meters in seconds. it shouldn't be like this, you should just pop up someplace random with some random loot, rather than a torch and battery. by random i really do mean random. rather than a list of about 6 locations you should roll the dice on about 500 spots. this improves the game by making finding a fresh spawn player just as rare as finding a chopper. no more screwing with freshies. _____________________________ chopper crashes are a matter of perseverance and whoever finds a v3s first on restart. because they are static at only 73 spots you can get round them in 20 minutes. in the mod they were way harder to find and rewarded you for travelling to the most distant spots. this would be better for the standalone. half of the map can't even spawn them right now, and the other half is chock full... as a note, the mod also had "care packages" that were intended for the chernarus military and were dropped upon the infection, these would be a nice addition to dayzSA as more random spawns. they'd spawn rare clothing like skull bandanas, m65 jackets and survival supplies like ration packs and compact stoves, en masse. ____________________________ main suggestion time: abandoned civilian camps. these should also spawn randomly in forested areas and clearings, and should usually contain survival supplies, a tent (obviously), a campfire, mountain clothing and backpacks, camelbaks, (mountain clothing would be like m65 jackets in rarity, only spawning at these sites and offering superior warmth and cooling as well as enhanced inventory space over most other clothing, though this clothing has hi-vis like the mountain backpack. - making them worth visiting.)

- Berezino - Novodmitrovsk - Severograd please no. player spawns should be randomised including spawning gear.

i was also attacked by houdini yesterday. this guy is in a v3s. he's REALLY close to me. i didn't know this, and fire off 5 shots of sks to clear a load of zombies. he panics and hops in his vehicle and runs. i say "hello there" and walk in the direction he was driving in. a few seconds later his engine sound disappears and i get hit with what sounds like 5.45. whoever shot me really opens up, and my screen goes grey. i can't see anything and i'm kind of panicing myself by now, because i'm pretty exposed. i don't see whoever is shooting at me, but they continue to land shots at my feet. i do the standard "hide in tree" routine, trying to see the guy pass me through the blindness. i relocate and more shots ring out. by now my pants are ruined and i feel like i'm going to die and lose my precious AUG. i keep sitting in trees and still don't see him. i decide to wait it out in my tree. five minutes pass and the blurring and greyscreen totally disappear, i never saw the guy and apparently he never damaged me, even though i got greyscreen. i never saw mr. v3s again either although i suspect they're the same person. did he teleport? was it a different guy? i didn't hear him flank in the v3s and the shots were instant, and apparently all i lost was some pants.

1:30 helicopters confirmed

kill them all at once while pretending to be friendly in under a second by removing your pants and yelling admiral akbar over voice chat while unpinning a grenade

it got to a point yesterday when nearly every low pop server on the browser was a join=kick muh character reset server. i decided to take a few minutes to record and report every single one of these i could see (nearly 50 in total) today i don't see one. now onto the ones that stay unpopulated /crusade

see no more join=kick servers? you're welcome
Wookieenoob replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
just reported the remaining 20-30 empty ones. -
pls devs

they should add PTRS and stingers at the same time as they release air vehicles, that'll make a difference.
-
honestly i really think there needs to be a solution to all the servers with names like "unstable" "do not join" "join=kick" "character reset" "always night character reset" etc. they're now so common that like every other server has some sort of title like this. incase you don't know what these servers are, they're where people put their duping camps and farm loot. by the time the game is released there will need to be some sort of active filter or admin presence patrolling the servers. the current system of "report+warn" does nothing with the sheer volume of these servers. people complain about loot hopping but never considered that actually people just loot the largest military bases and then soft restart their farming servers. not a thread reporting servers by the way mods, a thread saying something needs to change as far as policing this junk goes.

too many "do not join" servers to report
Wookieenoob replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
that's the point. read OP something needs to change, like a dev wiping, and deleting these servers and the people on them every wednesday. -

it's not about people on the forums, these servers are against the rules of the providers... -

the problem is that these servers actually break the rules. if a server is on the public shard it's rules have to comply to these. the people who run these servers pay so they can farm loot indefinitely. this is not the gameplay the devs had in mind for dayz, and it leads to, reinforces and encourages KOS deathmatching. why? because they can set up a tent on their server hidden near every fresh spawn with duped M4s and protector cases, grenades and hicap vests. you want to know how i know all this? it's unchanged since the mod. i used to set up hidden tents and hidden bases all over the map so i could always re-gear instantly, except i was doing it legitimately hiding my camps in plain sight, stashing away a bike in a bush, and these guys do it by constantly restarting their servers and looting barracks and choppers in 20 minute v3s runs. -
remove your trousers before you come into their line of sight

there are certainly servers like that, but player interaction is never a guaranteed thing, you can still encounter the same aggressive players on these servers. you should perhaps look for a server that says "whitelisted" and find it's website, get whitelisted. these servers will be private and will always have the same playerbase. if it is a PVE server this is where you will see rules followed.
-
nope. to have a private server you'd need to pay an extra $25/m on top of the normal server cost too. not a good idea to mix children and videogames with cannibalism and 10,000 players who will troll and play herbert the pervert soundboards in his general direction better to find him a good vanilla shooter with low attention-span and quick action. introduce him to the game with 225km2 maps later on. i suggest heroes and generals because it's very light hearted and it's also free, as well as not having any chat features for talking to your opposition (he could not be trolled by nasty enemies) that's just my two cents. when i was younger my dad bought me BF1942 and MOHAA, and those were really fun. honestly you should make sure he plays MOHAA even though it's an old game. it was a really great title for it's time. i don't think i would have had the attention-span for ARMA-2 i'm assuming your son is 6-15/ under 18. i really would not recommend this title for somebody that age. (not only are there possible attention span problems with younger kids and dayz, but also the sense of loss at losing a character and the frustration from it would be magnified. )

> banned for rek report server

in the mod there were occasionally carepackages that spawned random loot and could spawn guns. the story behind them was that they were mis-dropped and were intended for ground troops upon the infection starting.

cargo is slower. it does flip easier.

too many "do not join" servers to report
Wookieenoob replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
exactly. most of the time this is why you see some bandits with their inventories full of protector cases and duped M4s. because they don't want to be disturbed on their servers so they can camp the loot all day -
they should add in some unique spawns. maybe one for each major town. IE weapons factory (spawns new military grade weapons and civ loot), museum (spawns medieval armor and other medieval gear, caveman outfits, tophats, fancy suits, cossack gear, WW2 soviet and german gear, ww2 soviet and german weapons), bottling factory (several of these around the map with different brands of drink), dock warehouse (containers full of random loot, each container is full of one random game item. (there are realistically some places IRL that would have large amounts of THE SAME item stored together, especially in a dock environment in containers.), an actual gun shop (civ weapons), a sporting goods store (spawns running gear, quickdry clothing and designer running shoes, as well as those "string pull" sports packs, an outdoors store that can spawn anything from specific mountain gear to scuba gear and skis,

http://www.aacblog.com/wp-content/uploads/remington_acr.jpg what about an ACR as a super rare chopper crash drop? give it so many attachments you could fill a tent
