  1. Yeh you were actually shooting above his head, not at him, with that zeroing dude. Done it myself with the .50 cal and thought wtf..then saw the range and it made sense.
  2. let me google that for you....
  3. Sooo, sounds like the only other people in Cherno in a worse position than the Ghillie snipers were you and your friend sat in the firestation. It's not clear from the OP, but were you up the stairs in the firestation? The 3-tiered tower of glass windows with nowhere to move? The snipers probably didn't even have to adjust their aim, and just waited for you to move across their sights.

Banned from se 9 (Using hacked item)

I regularly play on SE 9 and it does have its problems with degenerative server lag and desync..don't they all? The admin there (Tansien) is experienced and seems like a decent chap and he only usually bans legitimate hackers.
  5. My friends and I all got killed on SE 9 by a Pig of all things a couple of weeks ago. It sniped us...seriously.

    poisonous steel bolts!

While we're on the subject of steel bolts, the player should also be able to equip them as a melee weapon, to stab through zombies' eyes. We've all seen it done....

    Still getting LOW FPS, Help?

Don't set things like shadows to "LOW" as that uses the CPU instead of your graphics card. Switch OFF postprocessing, antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. Try all other texture resolution settings at low/normal, and make sure your screen and 3d resolutions match (to start with) and then pull back on the 3d res if you still have problems. Set your Video Memory setting not to low, but to high/very high and that should also make a difference. Your system *should* run it smoothly enough.

    Experimental 1.7.2.1 test patch

It sounds to me like they've incorporated an animation file from one of the other Arma 2 dlcs, one that some people won't have. I have it because I got "Combined Operations" on Steam, but if you have ArmaX then I'm not sure it will be installed.. Have they made ArmaX players incompatible?

    First impression: This sucks.

If you set shadows to low, it uses the CPU instead of the gfx card so setting it to normal is often quicker than setting it to low. You can switch it completely off but it doesn't make much of a difference tbh. Turn off postprocessing, antialiasing and filtering. Make sure to turn off mouse smoothing in the controls options screen (at the right) and also headbob in the game options. The screen and 3d resolutions should match, and apart from that if it doesn't play smoothly and look crisp (hate the postprocessing bloom) then your PC simply isn't up to the job.

Decrease of view distance by choice

Even with lower spec rigs, Arma2 can be made to run pretty smoothly with the correct settings and tweaks. One thing that helps is NOT setting things like shadowing, etc.. to "low" as that puts the load on the cpu instead of the card. Setting to "normal" will use the card again.

    Luckiest loot you've discovered?

I wanted to meet up with my friends who were in Berezino and I was miles away, expecting a loooong trek north and in the shed I had disconnected in the previous night. I respawned in the same position and there's a motorbike with half a tank of fuel there right next to me! It was most welcome.

    Crashed UH-1Y Dissappointment

Did you look on the floor in a small radius around the copter? Most of the useful loot isn't IN the vehicle, it's strewn around on the floor.
  13. Buddy, the only person here being childish is you. Sure, the OPs post has limited value, and he isn't taking part in the spirit of an alpha test. But I think what he's saying has merit, in that we've all had deaths that are infuriating in their stupidity, and that these need to be addressed before the game goes to beta. Myself, I was just shot in the back by a server hopper last night, I cleared a room, went to walk out of it and was shot in the back by someone who popped in behind me. 17 day old character dead. It's maddening and people won't be happy with it if this game goes live and they've paid something for it. Now, I turn the argument around on you. What in the hell are YOU contributing here? You go on a fucking tirade against this guy, and for what purpose? Did you calling him a twatsock or wtfever you called him help make this a better mod? Did it help make the forums a better place? No, of course it didn't. All it did is establish the now undeniable fact that you are an asshole hiding behind the anonimity of the internet. Additionally, it likely highlighted your bias towards the game in its current incarnation, and in some fucked up version of stockholm syndrome you're actually defending the game and mod in its current state even though it is obviously an EXTREMELY flawed work in progress. The only thing you've helped here is your extremely low self esteem. By acting the internet tough guy for 15 minutes you've distracted yourself from your overweight frame, cheeto encrusted beard and tiny pecker. Good fucking job buddy, you've officially made DayZ a better mod. Asshat. +1

    Everyone is a bandit now?

Most people who see me shoot me on sight, but if I get the drop on someone up-close I always announce my presence on direct voice, with my gun pointed at their head...I say I'm friendy and wait to see what they do. Most of them actually speak back, and with the ice broken it's usually easy enough to continue without a conflict..both people are happy, though not always (remembers the guy I gave my axe to, who promptly killed me). I have to stick to my own way of playing to justify playing this game - I have to believe that it's possible to change others and show them that not everyone is a bandit.

    FPS lag with gtx 580

You don't have ANY of the settings set to "low" do you? (They use the CPU instead of the graphics card when set to low) You have the video memory setting set to very high in the advanced graphics options? Also, to prevent the small delay you experience when moving the mouse, turn OFF mouse smoothing altogether, in the game controls screen. Your system should run this game very smoothly so I suspect it is a local configuration issue. This is no reason to use anything other than high/very high settings, however some of them are particularly intensive such as the 10K draw distance, very high postprocessing and anti-aliasing, so you could try lowering those a bit to see if it makes a difference.
  17. One of the things I found when getting my settings correct was if you set any of the advanced graphics options to "low", then it will use the CPU instead of your graphics card... set those to "normal" instead and you will probably see a performance increase, particularly for things like shadowing. Also - switch OFF postprocessing and Antialiasing/Anisotropic Filtering, and set the video memory option to "very high". Couple of other things:- In the game options, turn off headbob (personal preference), but most of all in the controls section turn off mouse smoothing. By doing all this, my framerate jumped from 20-30 to 40-50, and the perceived motion lag was eliminated by turning off the mouse smoothing so it now looks as well as plays smoothly.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Isn't that what we're all here for? :) NO. While you enjoy playing the mod all ARMA X users are UNABLE to play. We all wait for the 1.7.2 to arrive to be ABLE to play. You clearly dont have this problem. This bug was solved in the latest Arma2 _beta_ patch, not specifically DayZ, so you should be able to play straight away (hopes at least!).

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

HulkingUnicorn had some good points at the top of the page, but the presented solution was far too complicated. I agree with having a disconnect timer to prevent the exploits, so that should remain. A reconnect timer is also a good idea, so that should stay too. What we need is a means to stop people rejoining other servers instantly, or even just going to the lobby on the current server to avoid damage. My proposal is that when players press the "Abort" button to get to the lobby, that the game takes them ALL the way out, out of the lobby and out of the server itself (after the disconnect timer) and into the Arma2 server browser. If it's a busy server, that slot will be filled very quickly and it's a disincentive for anyone who intends to return quickly. At this stage the reconnect timer comes into play and prevents anyone from rejoining the server, or at least from spawning into the game for a predetermined length of time. It's a simpler solution, to use the real-world delay imposed by a full server disconnect. It won't stop dedicated exploiters but it will slow them down and maybe even put a few off doing it.
  20. The fact that you didn't see the player doesn't mean he was invisible.. you just didn't see him. Although I suspect a guy with a Ghillie suit and silenced weapon probably IS hacking...

    Escape from Chernarus

Not sure about the escape scenario tbh, but some other "event" could work.. something to draw people in from across the map. Perhaps a big supply drop... a fully loaded humvee or something, perhaps a medical crate.. A chopper could fly across the map at a random direction and position and drop its cargo randomly along the path. Other players would hear/see it and be inclined to follow. Recording the players' stats is a good idea anyway, and they should also record the number of disconnects from the players per day too. Maybe even include the average time before reconnect...If this number is sufficiently low, and the number of disconnects high enough, then this player is an exploiter. Remove their beans.
  22. So we were playing on SE 9 last night at the army tents near Berezinho and see a couple of players enter the camp, so we engage them and immediately they both just disappear...disconnected. We curse and move on. Five minutes later we are engaged by the same two guys who had obviously teleported through another server to get a better position on us. They disappeared as soon as we fired back on them. At the northern airfield a little later, we see what look like the same two guys, same outfit and loadout, proning across the runway. We engage them again and lo and behold they both immediately disconnect. To mark the event I typed some stuff into chat, including the words "disconnect" and "LAME". The previous 2 disconnectors were the fellas who left the server immediately before my chat message. Is there any way the server admin can scan the logs to find my message, and to check WHO the offending players were? What makes me mad is that this was their standard tactic for playing, they used it consistently every time they were engaged in a firefight, and indeed ended up killing half our squad as a result of it; leaving the server and coming back behind us to finish us off. It's just not sporting...
  23. I managed to break my leg and ligaments simultaneously as I threw an empty coke can from a deerstand to distract some zombies yesterday. Didn't have any morphine, but I did have some wood and bandages..just saying it might have been good to be able to use those in conjunction with painkillers to achieve a similar result to morphine. Medical crafting. Also, a quick comment about not spawning with a watch: Most people own one nowadays, so why does someone who is self-sufficient enough to start on a beach with a backpack and flashlight not bring something as ubiquitous as a watch? It would help players to get a rough idea of which direction they're heading in too.
  24. Date/Time: 18th June, 10pm GMT What happened: Got trapped in a 2ft deep "dip" in the grass, couldn't get out in any direction. Tried to vault but broke *everything* and blood dropped from 12k to -1k = death! Where you were: South side of Black Lake, near the big rock in the peninsular, server = SE 9 (Great server btw!) What you were doing: Trying, unsuccessfully, to survive. I'm pretty sure this is not a bug as such, but more of an issue with the map itself. Just adding for completeness. I'm guessing the same thing would happen in non-DayZ Arma 2 also, but I haven't tested it yet.
