Remove peripheral dots - Enforce server difficulty settings
Bo0G posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Those dots on the side of your screen that are supposed to 'simulate' peripheral vision are a broken mechanic. If you scan your screen across a horizon watching one of the dots on the side of your screen, as soon as the dot disappears, you know that some spawn-able object (vehicle, animal, player, zombie) is in that spot. If it is 400M away and hidden in a tree, your magical peripheral vision can spot it even when you yourself cannot. This is a game breaker. It is just as bad, if not worse, than name scanning and it has to go. Edit: It seems that this is a server setting so thread title has been edited to incorporate my suggestion to enforce specific parameters on servers that claim to be Normal, Veteran, and Expert. -
-1 I don't want this. But, it would be a nice compromise if they fixed the inspect function so maybe you could find your body, inspect it, discover what kind of weapon killed you and that would be a clue as to who it was (if you're willing to have a vendetta against everyone with a revolver or whatever). At least that would be more realistic than some disembodied voice telling you who it was.

This thread just emphasizes how much work DayZ still needs.

ROCKET! I love the changes coming with zombies, but I have one request

+1 for more natural, predictable zombo movement. I don't mind the speed that they move, but what they do right now is not only hard to hit but just plain silly-looking. -

+1 While you are digging around in the gear code, could you also turn off auto swapping ammo when moving weapons and fix items that can't fit being cast into oblivion?

So it is a server setting? That is strange because I've seen it on servers that are "Expert" according to the browser. But then I've also been in Expert servers with 3rd person and xhairs enabled. It seems like you can set your difficulty at whatever you want, but then change all the parameters to be easymode anyway. Some defined protocol for normal, vet, expert servers would be helpful. -

Yes! But only if all servers are BIS hosted and regulated. No more clans/communities with their own DayZ servers. If a character is locked to one server, players need to know that their character is safe with the server they choose; that the admin isn't going to abuse their power (since the player would have no option to change servers anymore without losing their character). Most MMOs require the player to choose one dedicated, company-hosted server for their character to live on. DayZ should be no exception.

It doesn't. Feel free to alt-f4 if you are in a safe area and you trust that your avatar will survive for the next 2 minutes. It's a small price to pay to keep people from combat logging I think. Not to mention the fact that it would discourage server hopping.
-
This seems overly complicated to me. Why not simply add a 1-2minute timer to dc for everyone that is only interrupt-able by the person who is disconnecting? At the beginning of the timer, a server messages says "John started disconnect timer". So if you are in a firefight and see that message, you can choose to rush in if you believe that your target is combat logging.

The new gear usage system seems to be breaking a lot of other mechanics in the game. I also find it to be a bit clunky. Have you considered scripting in a separate "DayZ Interaction button"? Similar to the ACE mod, you could have one key that brings up a menu of all actions that are DayZ specific like eating, chopping wood, transfusions, etc. Maybe have one bindable key for DayZ Self-Interaction (eating, drinking, bandage, etc) and one for all other interaction (repairing vehicles, transfusions, etc).

Makeshift/temporary suppressors for pistols
Bo0G replied to UbiquitousBadGuy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes! I want to decapitate a zombie outside of town with my hatchet, stick my m1911 in his mouth and enter the town using his head as a supressor! (Or at least put that scenario into a cutscene) Edit: That scene was so cool in Max Payne but I totally forgot about it because it only lasted like 30 seconds for me, then I was going loud again. Still, very cool idea using a water bottle as a supressor. -
+1 to flipping ATVs.

horses: sure I wouldn't mind another silent way to travel besides bikes. cougars, and bears: Not until arma2 cleans up it's combat. Ever notice how everything takes an extra couple seconds to die when you kill it (sometimes getting a hit off on you in the meantime)? Zombie horsemen: ? LOL

The exploitative nature of 3rd person view that seems to be disturbing you, based on the video you posted IS that the camera allows you to see further than you actually would be in a certain position, through walls, above walls, around corners. I'm not sure why you quoted my post but then referred to a video that BL1P posted as being mine. Maybe you're not sure who you're talking to or what you are arguing? Still, if you actually watched that video, then you saw BOTH kinds of 3RD exploiting showcased not just wall clipping. You are free to not support whatever you like. But whether you support it or not, BIS obviously thinks that players who are limited to FPS are more "expert" than players who aren't (hence the difficulty settings in game) and it is their game we are discussing. Also, I'm inclined to agree with them.

+1 Remove NVG, Rangefinder, and all thermal/NV weapon optics and see how it plays. Can I have mine back if we revert though?? ;)
-
No' date=' it doesn't. It assumes (correctly) that 3rd person is intended to be easy mode in Arma2. Then it asserts that many of us players would like to play against characters that have been built EXCLUSIVELY in Hardmode like our own. Think it through, man. There are plenty of occasions where an easy mode player may join an expert server instead of their home server (ie. time of day, player count, server availability, etc.)

Moving your weapon to a utility slot made me wonder what would happen to your ammo. I think they need to remove the mechanic that dumps all your primary ammo when you dump your primary weapon. It is supposed to be helpful but it almost always results in lost ammo when moving things around. Dammit Arma, just let us manage our own inventory. I think the best work-around would be to incorporate the hatchet into your F cycle as onobi said, if that's possible.

It would be better and make more sense to just let people mark their own maps. And have those marks persist when the map changes hands. Then, when you kill someone, you can look at their map and see what they marked. If their camp is marked, lucky you!
