I mean this as constructive correction, but I think you are confused. The US Army issue M4 comes with a birdcage flash hider, not a brake. Everything else you said was correct.
-
What you are doing is dismissing opposing arguments based on unsubstantiated argumentum ab auctoritate rather than rational argumentation or valid evidence. Your first picture is a Degroat Flash Enhancer, taken at dusk. This is called cherry picking. The second picture is a .50 M2HB, taken from IMFDB; the Internet Movie Firearms Database. Hollywood. Nuff said. The third picture was taken at dusk, and is still nowhere near as big as the first and third images provided by Gews. These were clearly captured during daylight conditions in game. The third image by OP shows a flash in full daylight that is about twice the height of the man, so about 12 feet. Are you making the claim that an M4 with a 16" barrel and birdcage flash hider produces a 12" flash in broad daylight? If that was true, the Army may want to consider switching to the AAC Blackout flashhider ASAP, because the current birdcage design is a massive unmitigated failure.

Is there something you would like to share with us, Janet? Or can we get back to a respectful discussion of unrealistic muzzle flash in DayZ?
-
Hey man, tier 0 operators have guns firing next to their faces ALL fucking day, even when they shower and shit. It's like... just constant muzzles in your face....firing....you're just running everywhere and dropping satchel charges... and there are muzzles in your face... like penises surrounding your face... shooting in your face while you're "touring" Asscrackistan... MilSpecZombie is: A. 14, neglected, and being raised by Activision. B. 17 and waiting for delayed entry, being kept busy by Activision. C. Actually 22 and actually in Afghanist an, but a fobbit being kept sane by Activision. D. Actually 22 and actually in Afghanistan, completely traumatized with a brain injury, and not getting the phsychological care that he desperately, desperately needs. PTSD ridden and pounding the keyboard with his e-penis.

Around this time last night I was shooting a Mosin M39 in near total darkness and the muzzle flash wasn't half that big.
-
Calm your tits, Janet. There is no need for the "no one who disagrees with my views on X has ever Y" fallacy. Those muzzle flashes are not accurate.

What I think the night should look like;

I just want to throw it out there that some of you motherfuckers might be colorblind and not know it. My best friend in the Army was colorblind as fuck and didn't know it until he got tested at MEPS. He shouldn't have been admitted; he couldn't even tell green from brown and kept buying USMC green undershirts instead of Army brown. His driving with NODs on was....thrilling. My broader point is this; not every night is the same, not every observer is the same, there is a lot of variation and dudes are talking like they have the color perception of a pregnant woman. I say a little more color would be welcome, especially from light sources. Just don't go overboard. And yes weedz, I have been in the countryside at night. Last night. -

Wait... color and light work differently in Eastern Europe than they do in the rest of the world? Where I come from (the deep forest) it certainly gets pitch ass black in the woods, but street lights and stars still have colors. Objects that reflect light may become imperceptible in the dark, but the color emitted by light does not. I think the OP is spot on; Arma took a lazy shortcut on nighttime lighting, and Dayz has an opportunity to improve that. [edit] that is a very bright night and the orange paint could be toned down, but the stars and the street lights are much better. -
If memory serves, it didn't seem we had a reasonable chance of survival back in the days when we were given a pistol and painkillers along with our flashlights. It seemed ridiculously hard until we acclimated. After they took away the pistol, it seemed unreasonably hard again. Perhaps the difference is that I don't view DayZ as a "zombie game" so much as a survival simulator that has a side of infected people (I would argue that hostile, armed AI would be better). This was Rocket's original intent, and this is why the program drew me in. Dark was fucking black, blood was precious, and life was nasty brutish and short. It was fascinating to learn from very simple mistakes. If you want a "fair game" and I want an "unfair training tool" then it's not wonder you keep saying "bullshit" to everyone who disagrees. Hell, I'd randomize the game even more than it already is; you might start on the beach with a rifle and a broken leg, or perfectly healthy and butt naked. These are the situations that force us to think outside the box. [edit: I really don't care for zombie games, or about zombies at all. I'd love to see a pure survival simulator without the zombie bullshit. Pilots downed behind enemy lines, or SHTF with roving gangs of AI looters and such]

What part of "at best unreasonably cruel" have you forgotten? DayZ built a following on being ludicrously unfair, desperate, and hopeless. Once everybody got a system going things seemed easy peasy, but that system has been rebuilt. Back into das einfrieren scheißesturm!

I'm getting the distinct impression that a lot of people have formed really lazy search habits and are just experiencing ego bias. The starving/dehydration settings sound like they need a legitimate adjustment, but there are and have been too many coastys in Dayz for a long time.
-
Bad News: Map shrinked considerably; can make it from town to town in less than a couple minutes.
032125 (DayZ) replied to AG-D.Wright's topic in General Discussion
No AD, you knew the coast by heart. You've logged hundreds of hours and don't know that they shuffled the map around? Wiskey Tango Foxtrot? Until you find some more compelling evidence than your guesstimation based on outdated map locations, I'll be reserving judgement. -
Regarding the people complaining.
032125 (DayZ) replied to ProfessorShanks (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There is People are conflating bug reports with outright condemnation. I was watching a livestream a minute ago where the streamer went on a rant and basically advised people not to buy the game. Big difference people. Prof Shanks is referring to those people that have already made up thier minds based on a few hours of Alpha, not people who are reporting bugs. And no, whining in youtube does not constitute a valid bug report. PS Weedz: I realise that your brain may be fried, but veracity is not a function of comment volume (how often you post). A mutherfucker could sign up for this forum in five minutes, say the sky is blue, be correct, and have every "right" to say it. -
I presume you mean Rockstar.

Seeing you get knocked on your ass and then having to get up to shoot makes it clear that some sort of supine shooting needs to be incorporated. Get knocked down, have the option to shoot from the supine position to clear the threat, then hit the stand button to stand. Sometimes it is neither practical nor advantageous to stand up before engaging. -
Same bullshit update I've come to expect every two months.

Very well; they are enranged. Let's strap a rubber band around you balls and see how well you climb ladders. I am terrible at lots of things when I lose my temper.

Titan Quest: Immortal Throne was an actual improvment on Diablo II; Diablo III was a disaster.
-
Which raises the question, to what extent can they somply borrow updated ARMA III skeltons to save expense and time? Not every movement will aply, but surely most of the core movements will work in both.
-
I stand by what I said earlier; it's better to have a weekly update with less content than a whopper every month. Since the Devblog 15th February 2013 thread is locked for some reason, I have to respond to that with a true story; our unit was in Kosovo in 2003-2004, and we had a soldier who woke up one day with a black, blistery ring around his mouth one day. He went to the doc, and got pennecillin for it, but it turns out he actually went down on a Serb hooker. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, that guy. Facial chlamydia indeed.... [Edit] Not in any way intended as a slight against Serbs, btw, she just happened to be. Eastern European women are goddesses, by and large.

Whenever I need to conjure horrid disease imagry, I use "Anal Rabies". There of course is no such animal, but it sounds dreadful.

In real life I can feel and smell. I can also move my head naturally (without TrackIR) and can put my body in more than the dozen or so positions afforded by ARMA (not saying that ARMA isn't awesome and way ahead of other games). I can peek over and around walls a millimeter at a time, and shoot a rifle left handed, and keep both eyes open when using an OEG. My FOV is about 180°, not 90° because I don't wear blinders (unless there's something kinky going on). I don't need icons to tell me when I'm hungry, cold thirsty, or shot. 3rd Person is an imperfect but useful way to bridge the gap between natural movement and sensory input and the limitations of a PC environment. If you're going to argue for total realism, we should also discuss the fact that my eyeballs do not "zoom in".
