Either the server is out of date and you have recently updated, or the server has updated and you haven't. You can check via DayZ Commander what version you are running and use it to upgrade/downgrade as required.

If your choice is to play as a lone wolf, people shouldn't be spotting you. maybe something in your playstyle needs to change if you are going to remain a lone wolf. My advice is (as above) join a community and make friends. Many eyes makes it easier to survive!

I think come the apocalypse a certain subset of survivors will go out looking for trouble. In that way DayZ is a microcosm rather than a true simulation

On your travels keep your eye open for deer stands. If I'm on my way anywhere I use these as waypoints and by the time i get where I'm going I've found some kind of assault rifle. You can do the same thing with barns except you will get a Enfield, DB shotgun or (my personal favourite) a Winchester.

We can make jokes about trying to make our zombie apocalypse realistic but i get what the OP is talking about. I want the zombie apocalypse part to be the only far fetched thing going on. I want it to seem as if the cozy, ordered world I live in has come to an end and that the streets may be filled with mindless zombies but they are MY streets and that the normal rules apply. Just because some genetic abberation has left me immune to some weird virus doesn't mean that i can suddenly bench press 300lb. But of course i will be fairly proficient with automatic weapons. I guess what I'm saying is, we all are comfortable with different levels of 'realism' and there is no way rocket and co can keep us all happy. I for one am just gonna play my own way and rationalise the things that don't fit my own personal ideal.

I'm more a fan of the shambling non running horde of zombies from the Romero ... Of the dead films. They should overpower through sheer force of numbers. Think of 150 of them shambling towards you and you empty magazine after magazine into them without seeming to dent their numbers until eventually CLICK! No bullets. Better hope you haven't backed into a corner cos they want your brains!
