  1. And it's pretty good! I remember the first time I played the Dayz Mod. It seemed hard and unforgiving then. Yesterday I logged in, started playing and died a couple of times of hunger and thirst. Maybe if the infected were more alert and aggressive, it would be better. Haven't seen the wolves yet, but they are a good addition to the woods. It seems to be getting there at lastz. Nice job, Bohemia.

    October Round-up: #DayZDaily

You actually guess it pretty close. Finnish is one of the oldest languages in the Europe. The word "Perkele" you hear in the video is of baltic origin and dates 5000 years. It was some kind of a pagan god. Possibly not a good one, because when christianity came, they made it a synonym for the devil. They did not dare to do that with Ukko, which became a synonym for the christian god. Perkele is something you'd "call", when you're about to punch people. Or just hurt yourself with a hammer. It's funny that way, they propably called it many thousand years ago for the same reasons. But with vikings and shit. Finns? No viking. In viking mythology Finland area is a dark place where there be dog faced people, giants and amazons. It's pretty complicated stuff, but I've read at least one story where Vikings came to Finland to pillage and rob and most of them died.
  3. "It's not fair!!!". It kind of makes me think that would be the reality knocking in. I mean if you could really take an average person to a Zombie apocalypse, how would he/she feel in there trying to survive? I guess it would be a feeling of wanting to be anywhere else, feeling of "this is bullshit". Feeling of every little decision being of life and death and not wanting to do them, while realizing you have to do something. When I first logged in the game, I was extra cautious, because I overestimated the zombies. It took me many hours just to go through a few villages and "that's impossible" crossed my my mind all the time. It was the most fun I've had in the game. When the reality that Zombies don't matter bit in, I lost interest. Didn't make me stop though. I stopped playing because of the Zombie spawn camping. Now that this patch came, I'm going to install Dayz again. The spawn camping will still be there, but maybe it won't be as easy as it was.

    Post your gaming setup!

I have 16 in hope of saving the ssd a bit. It had nice latency and cheap price, so I thought why not. I have asrock board with xfast ram, so I use some ram for a swapping & tmp drive. And dayz is on it too. If you had 32 gb, you could easily install any game you want to run fast on a ram drive.

Dell Vostro 400 - What Graphics card should I get? Help!

My advice is, put the money on the GFX card. You can get a cheap system with the new AMD processor which won't break any records but will compete with the intel i3 and will be better than the dual core. edit. Here's AMD A10 - 5800K (Looked up the price from ebay.co.uk, it's about a 110-120 £) running Battlefield without an external gfx card (== the integrated gfx ): So you could go even cheaper while saving up for a decent gfx card to buy later. I saw the whole tower sets sold for 300 £, if you're into putting it together yourself and buying from UK webstores with free delivery, you'll go below that. That means, you could get an AMD system WITH at least a 7850 card for 300-400 £. DayZ is getting lighter I hear.

Dell Vostro 400 - What Graphics card should I get? Help!

I had a core 2 duo machine before. I ordered a new machine from differents stores and I got the radeon 7950 before the other parts. I tried it on the old machine (2.3 Ghz Core 2 duo, 4 gig ddr2), and it made a huge difference. The framerate wasn't great in Dayz, but it was more playable. And it worked with a cheap 500 W power source. Those graph cards you suggested, I wouldn't buy any of those, because I think they are a waste of money. I'd rather buy an used older generation high end card, or at least some 7850, which you can get pretty cheap (seems like 130 £ min) nowadays. Or 68xx radeon. Why did I buy 7950 then? It overclocks like mad (1100 Mhz) and I got it relatively cheap (260 €) and so if I feel like it, I can easily get another one at even cheaper price next year for crossfire set up. The new machine is i5 3570k (@4.3 Ghz) , 16 Gb, samsung 830 ssd (no more 15 minute waits for servers). I get 70-100 fps. My friend has 2 x gtx 470 without overclocking and he gets over 100 fps with otherwise the same setup, except 4.6 Ghz on his i5.

    Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions

That tip option thingy would actually solve the blunt weapon need also, since there can be blunt arrow tips. Every category I mentioned could easily have +- 3 different bows, especially there are many primitive bowtypes. Compound bows on the other hand have a lot of different sight options, while on to a and such you can mount basically any rifle scope.

    Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions

I'm not that big on guns, I've shot a couple of pistols, an assault rifle (ak rip off), a light machine gun. That was the army. After that all the shooting I've done is with bows. So I'm here to suggest bows. I think there could be 4 kinds of bows in Dayz: Primitive bow Can be crafted Arrows can be crafted Fast shooting Instinctive aiming 20-30 m accurate Olympic bow Can't be crafted Arrows can be crafted Moderately fast to shoot Sight aiming 50-60 m accurate Compound bow Can't be crafted Arrows can't be crafted Slow to shoot Sight and peep aiming 60-70 m accurate Crossbow Can't be crafted Arrows can't be crafted Slowest to shoot (takes up to 1 minute to load) Scope mount 70- 100 m accurate
