  1. It's already said a bunch of times but I'm gonna go ahead and say it again: money is something that is moot in the apocalypse because money is worthless. Reason being: Money was invented to represent gold in the banks, a banker writes you a piece of paper that says "This paper is worth 10lbs of gold" or some such, you bring that to another bank and then they give you the gold. Something to that effect at least, I'm not sure what the exact process was or is but the point is that money represents the exchange of gold throughout the entire world (kinda funny isn't it? 400 years later and we're still basing value of objects on shiny things) and without functional banks to upkeep the currency system money becomes completely worthless as anything but toilet paper that's softer than leaves or fuel for a fire. That being said, implementing a card game or some other form of mini games... well... not sure what you'd really wanna do with this aside from shoot the shit around a campfire when the sun's gone down and you're waiting for night to stop being like the moon was just ctrl+alt+del'd from the sky.

    Bayonets

I'm gonna go ahead and say "No" to this idea, at least in the sense that you're talking about. This isn't call of duty, the last thing we need are a bunch of knife tards running around the map one hit killing everything/everyone with this knife of theirs. (I never understood the people who call M203 launchers noobtubes when everyone is running around with an insta-kill knife with unlimited ammo). That being said, I do support the idea of a melee weapon being equipped and usable with both a primary and secondary weapon. Especially with military grade rifles that are designed to have bayonets fixed on them for extra reach (effectively making them a spear as well) for the soldiers. I do not agree with the one shot kill aspect at all. Like I said, this isn't call of duty. This is DayZ. However being hit with a knife would be incredibly debilitating depending on where you were stabbed with it. In the torso you'd have a really good chance of organ damage and infection, arms would make that arm pretty difficult to use if not useless and of course taking a knife to the leg would have a good chance of disabling that leg by severing a hamstring or other tendon. Of course there'd be tons of bleeding either way, especially if you hit that femoral artery with it.

    Weather - Flooding in Particular

This is an awesome idea, adverse weather affects are definitely something that would especially be needed to worry about given the fall of civilization. Camps on the low ground swept away, vehicles parked on the coast or too low inland because putting them up high makes them too easy to see would be destroyed. It would also add another hazard to flying helicopters, if you're flying in a flood and you haven't fueled up before the flood happened and by some miracle your chopper wasn't destroyed in the flood, you either gotta look for jerry cans to juice it up or you gotta risk just leaving it until the flood recedes because if you crash land it in to water you're most certainly boned. Most of the fuel stations would be inaccessible I imagine as well. +1 to anything that makes boats more useful than just a way to get out to islands nobody goes to without losing your gear.

The dumbed down weapon damage system

Yeah he probably was doing drugs, it's this natural drug that our body gives us called "adrenaline". Often theorized as an evolved defense mechanism so that we as human beings could ignore superficial (in context) harm to our bodies in order to flee or fight whatever it is that is threatening us. The homo sapiens as a species is incredibly resilient to external harm, to say that being shot is something one wouldn't realize until later is not feasibly possible is quite silly. That being said, whoever said that a certain type of gun/bullet/whatever is designed to maim instead of kill, it is quite possible. The purpose of a gun is to remove a hostile party from the equation of combat be it through lethal, maiming or stunning means guns are meant to inflict casualties. Unless you're talking about a specific projectile like a beanbag round though, I'm fairly certain most anti-personnel projectiles are designed to have lethal potential when fired at center mass. I do agree on the note of shotguns, it is pretty annoying how most games nerf the ever loving snot out of shotguns to the point where they aren't all that useful anymore unless you're sticking the barrel so far up your target's backside the lump in their throat is the end of the barrel. The only games I've seen that accurately reflect the lethality and effectiveness of shotguns are (hate using this one as a positive example) the Call of Duty games and Rainbow Six games (the second one I approve of) within the range they were meant for.
  5. I kind of understand where the OP is coming from on this one. Whilst making the game too simple will make it too streamlined and easy for players to survive (as what we have right now) but if you make the system too complex you make it more of a flight simulator equivalent of a game (dry and frothingly boring). The ideas that come up on this board are very intuitive and complex indeed but there is a point where over complexity can be a hindrance rather than an aid to the game play experience.
  6. Ahhhhh I misunderstood. I'm sorry, I'm willing to bet the reason is because the game is running from a mod data packet rather than the actual game's data packet. While using the game's engine it's using a seperate set of behaviours and triggers to run the mod. It does seem kinda mind boggling but game modding has always been a dark wizardry that is at best, finicky and prone to mood swings. You either need to keep a seperate shortcut for DayZ or you need to launch Arma 2 with steam (if you have it through steam that is). Also, not really something for the suggestion boards in my opinion, might be better for the general or maybe even trouble shooting. Though the latter is for troubles you're having regarding the mod and running it.
  7. Yeah I don't suspect this will end well, I started a topic asking for something similar (PvE servers but basically you're asking for the same thing, an environment with zombies and no human players) and it went down in flames with more trolls than the moderators were willing to deal with attached. Unless I'm missing my guess, this will probably head the same way, sorry chum.

    Hacker solution?

Maybe every hacker/griefer/scripter just had an unpleasant run in with Uncle Touchy's puzzle dungeon when they were little.
  10. So this used to be a compilation of problems that I've talked about with my friend or things I'm seeing here, I renamed it and cut a few things out. If something I or my friend thinks has already come up it wasn't intentional I promise. What I would like to see -Female Clothing: This one I'm actually aware is a pretty big gripe already and I've seen threads of it in the past but it is by far my biggest gripe with the game so I'd like to put it under here. My biggest concern is not only am I stuck wearing the same tracksuit and pants which really make me undefinable from the next person playing a woman character (which can get pretty confusing in a firefight if I'm not the only gal running around even in voicechat) but also, again already a gripe, the inability to wear ghillie suits. It may be a bit of an old horse already beaten to death but it seems silly to me especially since with the ghillie suit you can't see any gender defining features, so why not just use the stock ghillie skin when equipping it? It seems to me that it would be the go-to solution that would take maybe minutes to program (admittedly I know nothing about game design so I could be wrong about that). Another thing I've seen and agree with is people should be allowed to make their own with materials at hand and to those who think having a ghillie suit makes you less visible to zombies: stop being silly, zombies vision is based on radical movement as well as plain eyesight, so running around in a ghillie suit in the country side upright or crawling next to a zombie's feet with one on won't change anything. It's not an instant "never see me again" item. Despite this not really being a realism change and word on the grapevine is that this won't be a problem with SA, it's still a really huge gripe for me and I feel it deserves its own spotlight in spite of the title/topic change. -Pain Change: I appreciate and actually adore the game's simulation of someone's inability to perform when injured or under duress (recently being shot or beaten by a zombie) but the way it is done is... fairly poor in my opinion. If I had a really bad cramp in my shoulder from a few love taps a zombie had given me or my leg having recently been broken from a bullet, looking down the sights of a gun or binoculars or what have you I wouldn't be jerking around like I was having a seizure. I imagine I would have a hard time maintaining steady aim and my object/weapon of choice would sway more dramatically. This is something I feel needs addressing -Shifts in moonlight: My friend and I were playing a few nights ago and it was night time, both of us were having a relatively difficult time navigating and keeping track of one another in heavily bushed or tree thick areas but we were able to make supply runs to towns when it was safest. Both zombies and human players would have an extraordinarily, if not equal difficult time tracking us as we were having with each other. Then suddenly in the middle of town BAM. Pitch black. It was like someone had typed /delete moon in to the command prompt for the server and was very abrupt. We barely made it out in one piece to start a fire and log out. So changing of moonlight/clouds over the moon is something that should be addressed as well to make night time scavenging more of a challenge and less of a lottery on whether or not you're going to be able to see the next second. It'd be nice to be able to make night runs of towns without absolutely having to have night vision goggles as realistically, how many of those are gonna be lying around? -Wind: This may seem like a simple change but actually it's not, it probably is a game changer for everything but most of all: sniping. It's great that this game doesn't subscribe to the COD insta-travel bullets but what it should also factor in and something snipers should have to account for is shifts in the wind direction and velocity. I say this as someone who's been a victim of a sniper unrealistic distances away (survivor though, thank goodness) but adding in that next factor would be upping the ante on the realism of the game and I feel that would be for the best. -Pooping: This is actually a backwards bit, I would like to see this -not- added to the stand alone game. From what I can tell it seems like it's going to happen but I feel it should be known I'm not a supporter of it. While it certainly does add realistic flare to the game it just comes off as... childish and redundant to me. Does fecal matter spread disease? Well yes it does, that's why we started burying it or depositing it in places like out houses. That's what happens when it stays there; spread disease. Realistically though, if someone left a nice biscuit in the street for someone else to step in, what sane person would just leave it on their shoe, or even touch it with a bare hand even? That's the only way it would spread disease to you is if you ingested it somehow after touching it and drinking some water or eating food. So if the poop feature must be added (and I say that very begrudgingly) then there should be a command to scrape it off with a stick or rub your foot on the ground leaving a nice little racing stripe on the concrete/grass you're standing on until it's gone. (Update)Unique Weapon Sounds: This is something that I've noticed with the game, there tends to be pretty generalized noises. Most of the handguns make the same noise, most of the ARs make the same noise, most of the snipers make the same noise, etc etc etc. It might sound sliiiiiightly different to the trained ear but to me when I hear a Lee Enfield firing off a shot, it sounds the same as an M24 or a DMR. Which makes no sense at all because all three weapons fire completely different caliber of ammunition. So I think it would be good if they gave each weapon their own unique sound and honestly I'm not sure it'd require more effort than finding different wav. (or whatever format sound effects come in) for each weapon. (2nd Update)Rain makes grass slippery: So this one is pretty self explanatory but I think it would add to the dangers of hauling ass in the countryside/forest when a torrential downpour is happening outdoors. It might add to the tumble dryer lurchy movement of the game but have you ever ran full boar and then tried to stop during/after it had recently rained? If you were full on running chances are you would slide and fall on your butt. Given your environment, this could be a hazard for breaking things too, slipping and sliding in to a tree or falling on a root could easily break your pelvis if you hit it wrong. While I don't agree with cardboard bones and breaking them should be harder to do than it is right now, enough inertia combined with a solid object could easily break something. I feel this would discourage players from running in the open countryside with a few heat packs to stave off the cold of the rain and would encourage shelter or camp to be set up. It would be even more hazardous because if you aggro a zombie and are being chased through the woods with rain and trip and break something, you're pretty much as good as dead. (2nd Update)Moaning, groaning and howling: Something I think would add to realism as well is if you're injured, your character would howl or yelp in pain. Or grunt, depending on the severity. Another thing that could factor in to whether or not your person feels pain is adrenaline levels. Getting shot at but being missed or running from zombies would ramp up the adrenaline, temporarily allowing you to ignore pain (this is what adrenaline is for, to allow us as organisms to flee danger without feeling the repercussions of it later) so getting shot in the middle of an adrenaline rush would still cause bleeding but maybe not have them scream in agony. Of course, this could also be a flip side in that when the adrenaline wears off your character could be in a crippling amount of pain due to bullet wounds, zombie love taps and fractured limbs. I'm not sure what sort of affect this would have bit it would be nice to see this sort of realism taken in to account. (2nd Update)Addiction: While there aren't a whole ton of addictive substances in DayZ Mod as it is, there is Morphine which is used to cure broken limbs. What isn't taken in to account is the fact that Morphine is ridiculously addictive because of the happy-good-feelings it gives you if administered by an untrained individual. Hospitals regulate and taper off morphine as treatment nears its end, allowing you to basically leave the hospital without feeling any withdrawal because you were weened off of it as the pain levels became less and less taxing to your recovery. Having a giant injection of morphine, then another giant injection of morphine again? Bound to get addicted to it. What negative affects there could be I'm not sure, maybe inability to focus, loss of body temperature (cold sweat from withdrawal) or some other stuff like that. Oh also, painkillers are addictive as well if too heavily depended on. (3rd Update)Flashlight Use: I actually don't mind too much the level of darkness that the game gives us, nights in the open country can get that dark without some sort of assistance. However what I can't stand and find incredibly silly about the game (as well as unauthentic, since Rocket prefers that to "realistic") is the fact that like the Doom 3 marine, our characters seem too stupid to figure out that you can hold a flashlight in one hand and a handgun in the other. Or better yet, duct tape your flashlight to your shotgun. L4D2 has that if you look, the flashlights that don't have an under rail mount are ziptied to the gun (SCAR, AK47, etc etc) and I don't see why we should be forced to choose between the ability to see at night or being able to defend ourselves, the latter made completely useless without the former. Also, make the arm holding the flashlight static when we are running so it is always pointed the direction we are looking (strafing/free looking) so we're not fumbling around in the darkness waving a light around like a runway traffic director. (4th Update)Military Grade Weapons: Okay this one is a bit backwards as well. Rocket says that he wants to make military weapons less accessible and more rare which in turn makes household weapons and such more accessible. This is something I think shouldn't be done. Sure make household weapons available and civilian grade weapons more frequent but limiting the military hardware is just plain silly in my opinion. If you look at the economy of every country, one of the biggest expenditures will always be their military, maybe not on top but certainly up there. A good portion of the money goes to training soldiers, paying soldiers for their livelihood and so on but a massive chunk of that money goes to paying for the hardware that G.I. Joe brings to combat. Guns are mass produced by the millions, at the end of the Cold War the former USSR nations had craptons of guns. tanks and choppers just... sitting around because the nation was gearing up for a war that never happened. Every country has a massive stockpile of guns/munitions/arms that would have been distributed in time of crisis and plenty of bullets to spare. Heck in the United States there are more gun shops than McDonald's and you can certainly buy military grade firearms from there with ammo to spare. Granted, gunshops and abandoned military camps would be the first things to get raided in a zombie apocalypse but I don't think that should make them more rare, I think that should pretty much make them more common. It's unlikely when the Turner family was running for their lives that little Billy had the presence of mind to grab his dad's M16 from the locked gun cabinet. Just my thoughts on the matter of guns and such. Things my friend wants to see -Broken Bones: From what can be seen there's going to be alternate means of fixing broken bones and that's great, we all look forward to that I'm sure. What my friend (and I actually) would like to see is breaking bones more difficult to accomplish. Professional fighters on average generate 190-300 psi and they don't break bones very often, as far as we're aware these zombies are not all martial artists or UFC fighters. Of course, hitting something on a decent angle or falling from more than six feet (also kind of silly, falling less than a foot and breaking your legs) could break bones, if not fracture them. So what he and I would like to see is our characters being a touch more resilient to what's going on around them, human beings after all are known for their vermin-like ability to survive against all odds.

Haven't seen anything like this in my time on these boards, well done sir, beans and bump for you :D
  12. Some pretty good ideas, I'm sure most (can't say which) are being addressed with the stand alone, I hope Dean and Devs get a chance to look at this list for a few idea sparks on those slow days.

Derpy: Unless they include an animation with you trying to run with your pants around your ankles, man/womanhood flapping/glistening in the breeze respectively. Then it'd become hilarious. Though that's bordering gimicky and silly and from what I read, Dean Hall has no intention of putting anything of the like in the game. Cobb: Unless you fancy the idea of just going in your trousers and letting it run down your leg and down the side of your shoe, yeah I imagine there'll be a squatting down and pinching a loaf animation. Bonus points if they include bare bums. And I know, right? xD
  14. This mod is just like L4D with its over the counter medication. Our avatars slam back entire packages/bottles at a time and by some miracle they aren't flopping around on the ground like a marionette with a few strings cut while foaming at the mouth from overdose. Vidya games ur difrent furm reeeeeeel lyfe, hyuck-yuck-yuck. Seriously though, awesome idea. Right up there with number of uses in matches/lighters! :D

What to do when it's raining

As it is right now the dust trails are just an oversight due to the fact that it's a mod, not a stand alone game. That being said, if it was raining and you're driving on anything but concrete there would still be trails being flung up in the form of earth and gravel dug in to by the tires of your vehicle, mud being flung backwards and even on a concrete road you'd still have mist clouds of the rain water being sprayed backwards by the tires. That being said, ponchos are a great idea but I don't really have anything to add to improve the idea. Still though, you got my beans for a good idea OP =)

The addition of feces in itself isn't juvenile but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I won't argue that in any large disaster fecal matter does become a huge problem for spreading of disease (it's why we started burying/flushing/whatevering it to begin with) and than in itself adds to the reality that this is a huge disaster that is sweeping the world and without plumbing becoming readily available it would be a pretty large issue. The problem I have with the addition of passing stool is that like communism, what was once a great idea becomes stupid and non-viable as soon as you introduce people. People on the internet function on average at the emotional level of a 12 year old (barring groups of people of course) and honestly I don't think dropping a deuce would really add anything to the game but another way for griefers and trolls to basically just be dickheads as they are wont to do in a game simply because they get their jollies off on other peoples' frustration. Were it not for the fact that passing of excrement would be used as basically the next generation of "tea bagging" and griefing, I wouldn't have an issue with it personally. If people were capable of being... well... bloody mature about something as basic as the need to remove waste from our bodies, it wouldn't be such a bad idea. As it stands now, it'll certainly take the genre to the next level no matter what. Whether that level is for the better survival experience or the worse shitting on corpses/water supplies just for spite/giggles, remains to be seen.

    Dayz single player

    1) Making a single player mode is something that I would and will support as offline play can be as fun as online play sometimes after a long day and you just don't feel like dealing with the shenanigans of other people. 2) If you're sick from how people are on the internet, you may not have the constitution for it. I abhor how awful people are simply because there's no physical consequence to them being a douche-nozzle to someone on the other end of a computer screen but it's the nature of the environment dude, better get used to it. Ignore the idiots/flamers, talk with the smart folk :) 3) No some of us have jobs which we use to pay for our internet happy fun times, that being said some people don't have the income or the financial stability for the awesome flawless connections required to play PC games sometimes so single player is definitely a way to rope in these people. :)

    Darkness at night

There are some times when changing the gamma doesn't even work, to be honest. Yes, I change the gamma and brightness of my game when it starts to get dark because this reflects better on how my eyes would adjust to seeing in the dark fairly accurately as I'm really only able to make out basic shapes in the distance and rudimentary detail in front of me. There are times when this doesn't work though because the game just decides "Hey there's no moon anymore suddenly" and boof! You're suddenly in the middle of a Tim Burton film and nobody painted anything white and forgot the set lights. It's something I hope they are addressing in the stand alone.

Toilet humor at it's best. *eyeroll and sigh* Wait... so are you sure that you're groaning? Because that sounded like a question to me, not a statement. That's what the "?" is for, to make a question. Secondly, sniper rifles are designed to be shot at targets miles and miles away so yes I'm fully aware of the fact that they projectile is capable of ignoring wind velocity up to a certain distance simply due to its own momentum. Thirdly, I also said that I survived being shot at (the person shooting couldn't aim worth dick) but it did bring to mind the fact that wherever he was, he was shooting from more than what I would consider under the "wind free zone" of the projectiles he was firing at me. I never said that there was anything wrong with shooting straight under a certain amount of distance, I said that more factors should be taken in to account. Lastly, if you're not going to add anything constructive or really... intelligent to the discussion, please don't post here again. This is a thread in the suggestion forums and is to be made in to discussion, not a flame war. I also would ask you if you were in the military but seeing as this is the internet I'd have really no way to tell if you were full of dookey or not. So I won't waste anyone's time, have a nice day, please come back when you're ready to discuss ideas, not troll/bait/flame the thread. Any continued posts that aren't helpful or on topic will be seen as flaming/derailing and will be ignored and reported accordingly. Bye bye :)
  20. Yeah I don't understand the people who play DayZ for TDM with zombies. You already paid 20-30 dollars for the game in order to play the mod, you have a perfectly good combat simulator already before you mod it to be a zombie survival simulator. What gives? If you're in the game to kill people for fun, log out and launch Arma 2. There are plenty of servers and game modes dedicated to -only- killing other people.

It's not really disgusting as it is just... juvenile and really redundant. I have no illusions that women release pretty butterflies and happy unicorns when they go to the bathroom. When I go to take a crap, it's disgusting and smelly and I flush it as fast as I can and there's really nothing funny or entertaining about it. It's also time of my life that I'll never get back because the human body is so wasteful. Not to mention if I took a crap in the sink instead of the toilet, it would contaminate the sink and probably the entire counter with a plethora of diseases. Given all these unpleasant factors, why on earth would anyone want this in a video game?

Yeah requesting that poop not be added is an uphill battle, all we can hope is that Rocket and the devs realize that not everybody wants to play with shit in game and allow the server mods to pick whether or not dropping a deuce is part of your basic needs/abilities.

    Steam for the Standalone.

Eh... Steam is kind of a double edged sword. Yeah it makes finding hackers/recent players to friend much easier, it also makes accessing the map to Chernarus easier through Shift+Tab (tee hee, I cheat when I first spawn). However Steam can be a bit of a resource whore sometimes and what's even worse is if someone hacks your steam account they get not only all your games but there's a chance they could grab personal info. That being said, I use steam and I would buy the stand alone through steam. =)
