    Strength of Prison Door Locks

Honestly in order to get an "authentic" feel for opening a door with a gun, I think would cause mass dev suicides. I mean you would have to program every door in the game to have hitboxes for the hinges/mechanisms (which by itself isn't difficult I imagine) and then program servers to recognize and keep track of which doors are broken/hinges shot off/etc until the next reset and then all the auxilaries like fail chance, consequences of failure, severity of failure depending on method... Maybe just making doors lockable and unlockable viable lockpicks is more realistic from a programming standpoint at this juncture. x3

    Persistent Backpacks

What worries me about the way the system is though, is that the loot inside backpacks may not be as persistent as the items themselves. If the server resets and the backpack is full of items and I dropped it to lower my profile, what's to stop the server from going "WEEEELP THESE ITEMS CAN GO BUT THE BACKPACK IS GOOD HURRR" and completely erasing the point of my dropping the backpack (ie: to preserve the items inside outside of combat for later retrieval assuming I survive) in the first place. If the backpacks were "deployable" like tents that would persist through a reset or two (except when the servers go down wednesdays but that would just require people being mindful as they are with their tents) then it might cut back on this worry.

    Insanity from the player

There's disagreement and then there's arbitrary shooting an idea down without any regard to it's merit, I never said people can't disagree. The above isn't a disagreement, it's a "your idea is stupid and you're stupid for thinking it's good". This sort of post is nothing but rancor as it offers no explanation beyond "I don't like this F*** off". God forbid you read the entirety of my post where I don't fully agree with the idea myself, I'm just not being a douche about my opinion on the idea.

    Puking After Eating/Sprinting

The stuffed status isn't inherently a bad thing, it just means you need to wait a bit before consuming more. I'm pretty sure actually that the 101 Airborne in the days of WW2, paratroopers were endurance trained/tested by stuffing them full of food and then making them run up a pretty big mountain. Pretty much everyone puked but the test was to see who would quit, those who didn't after being forced to run up and down a 3 mile hill (for a whopping 6 miles in total) showed their stuff by sticking to it. I could be making this up though based on what I saw on HBO during Remembrance Week. xD
  5. Anyone that couldn't carry a bag of cement or sheet metal by themselves is a pussy and deserves to die in a post-apoc setting :P Tradesmen haul that stuff around by hand all the time. Ever seen roofers? They put two bags of shingles over their shoulders and climb a ladder propped against a two story wall at 70 degrees without any hands.

Trading posts/NPC (guards) Hear me out. Thoughts?

I ran in to some random schmuck in Cherno. He dropped his weapon and I had a clean shot to blast him in half with my shotgun. I elected to not take it and tell him to go away, he kept following me. Then he pulled out a sledgehammer and caved my head in. Last time I ever give someone a chance to live for awhile, back to just shooting everyone I don't know. How is this relevant to the suggestion? Well it's the DayZ experience, you're certainly not the first to suggest NPCs and you won't be the last that the entire community shoots down. Sorry m80, I think you picked the wrong video game.

    Dayz actually becoming DayZ

Yeah I'm gonna cast my vote on "No" to this idea. Players are big enough buttholes when they're players, them being allowed to play zeds would just be even worse. If I kill someone, I want to know that person won't likely be coming back after me another time and I just have to worry about any potential buddies of his.

    Insanity from the player

It's not terrible but I don't see it lasting very long on this forum. I was making suggestions for sanity based mechanics in the game almost five years ago now when the game was still in mod format and the promise of standalone was a distant dream in the future, the community is still as ravenously dedicated to their deathmatch/military classism sim as they were then. Needless to say, the idea was shot down because heaven forbid there be consequences for gunning down every random schmuck you came across. :\ Notice how your idea doesn't even come close to the consequences I'm talking about and there's already a screaming naysayer? He's worried that he'd have to change anything about what he does in the game to actually get away from what he does (five bucks says he dashes to the nearest weapon spawn, grabs something and murders every bambi he comes across) Though the whole "talking to yourself" bit is a bit of a stretch, I can't say I support it fully myself. The idea is solid but implementation is... not realistic. How would we talk to ourselves? Just walking along and mouse wheel down to "Initiate Conversation". Seems very mechanical and not very organic to me, after awhile conversing with yourself or your friends would become a chore rather than something that influences gameplay.

    Strength of Prison Door Locks

I want to point out here that shooting a lock is incredibly stupid. Shooting a soft metal (lead/copper) at a somewhat more resilient metal (iron/steel/brass/etc) is a really good way to shoot yourself with chunks of your own bullet bouncing off and coming back at you along with several other lock parts. Of course this isn't guarantee, your bullet might sail through the mechanism without much of a bother but shooting locks to open doors is generally considered a bad idea. It doesn't work the way it does in the movies. When tac' teams or military groups breach doors with shotguns, they press the barrel against the door nearest to the hinges and just blast the door -surrounding- the metal hinges apart to the point where the door doesn't have any connection to said hinges and can be kicked in with ease. This is largely a wooden door tactic and I would think it's -very- situational. That being said, I would love to find a use for the lockpick set I haul around on every new character. Might actually make some treasure troves of loot in some high chance spawn areas for weaponry because every other schmuck just fills his bag with nosh/drink/ammo.

Should scopes in dayz have the ability to zero?

I read somewhere in here that someone is complaining about the Mosin's recoil being unrealistic... which is... sorry to say, a pretty stupid statement. The weapon is a bolt action and I'm not sure if you've ever fired an actual gun before (I have) the thing doesn't buck upwards like a mule unless you're holding it wrong. There is some climb to it, especially if you elect to do a mag dump but for the most part, the recoil is focused against the stock of the weapon (isn't it crazy? Newton's law of action versus reaction). You see tons of youtube videos of people smacking themselves with a gun (or one of my favourites, someone firing a shotgun and it literally flies underneath their arm behind them) but those are videos of people doing it -wrong-. So... assuming that our player avatars are bracing the stock of the weapon against their shoulder properly, no the recoil isn't that horrendous. Sadly recoil on bolt action rifles comes in the form of shoulder fatigue and bruising in some cases, something that isn't easily replicated in a video game no matter how realistic of a survival simulator it might be. edit: Before this post stirs up the "WELL ACTUALLY" peanut gallery, I am referring to the Mosin alone here. Yes I'm aware there is climb on all forms of weaponry, though on a bolt action rifle it's negligible because in the time it takes to clear the breach and load another round in the chamber, the user has already realigned their sights to compensate. The game achieves this with the rifle bucking up just a bit and the bolt being pulled back and loaded again, I feel.

    Most versatile weapon combination?

I read somewhere in here someone mentioning that using the Lee Enfield from the Arma2 mod is helpful and it really is, I prefer the Mosin over pretty much any gun in the game because it forces you to take your time. I've been at the NWAF when two other people were there and they knew I was in the fire station tower. Instead of trying to rush me, they just buggered off. Such is the power of the weapon and you don't even have to fire it to get the effect because people are terrified of it. That being said, in a pitched fight that is closer than your optimum range (50-100m as opposed to a prefered 150-300m) I would say that movement is your best friend. You might not be able to dish out as much ammunition but sprinting about and making someone piss their ammunition away with their precious assault rifle (you can crouch and sprint at the same time now, you're welcome <3) and then snapping off a shot in their general direction is a good way to keep their aim off. I tend to avoid people as much as I can and much prefer discretion over valour. That being said, you get all the flashy boys running around with assault rifles and magazines to match, you can make them waste their ammunition trying to hit you. Even if they have four or five stacks of ammunition sitting on the side of their magazines, once they've burned those mags they have to load them up again. They'll either hide in corners to do so or run in straight lines, either case is easy pickings for a competent marksman.

    Christmas Ceasefire

I might just humor this notion... Well I'll be sure, during Christmas week and a few days after that I will deliver gifts to every person I come across. At high velocity, center mass. T'is the season for giving after all and I'm very generous.
  13. Honestly dude, you might just be having poor luck with the loot generation as you roam about. I remember for the longest time I was hauling several boxes of 7.62 ammunition around looking for a Mosin, only to die, then to find a Mosin and die again. Finally found my rifle and got ammo for it but... ya know how long that typically lasts >.> Anyways, Fishing Hooks aren't super rare, my friend and I practically trip over them every time we hit any sort of residential/industrial town.
  14. OP: I'm server hopping and can't get awesome gear to KOS bambis on the coast. Me Yeah I was kind of taken aback when my friend and I went in to the Berezino Lumber Mill's office building and found a treasure trove of food, clothing, backpacks, ammunition and a couple guns. Though from what I'm reading, persistent loot is a good thing and may help bring focus of the game away from easy picking areas like airfields and whatnot. What am I saying? People actually scavenging small towns and hamlets for supplies, heresy!

    Character roll-back after new patch?

I will repeat what I said in the other thread... I spawned on a character with a 357. instead of a Mosin Nagant, a smaller backpack and no can opener. Instead of coming here to bitch about it I just shrugged my shoulders, assumed that it was beta-related and moved on with my night. You lot with your M4s and military gear that you ransacked airfields for are far too attached to your guns and supplies, considering one screw up or even one bullet could take all that away from you I would consider it actually better if it was development related. It means that they're working on the game and not just taking the piss.

Way to identify if hoppers join low pop servers

Didn't have this. You can tell when server hoppers are jumping from server to server because they'll join a server for a few minutes and then leave. Presumably when they check the airfield and find all the doors flung open and assume it's already ransacked.

    Character rolled back several days

I got rolled back to a character that had a smaller backpack, no can opener and had a 357. revolver instead of a Mosin Nagant. ... Didn't care, kept playing anyways.

    System to Punish KoS

Depends on how close I was and what my intentions in the town was. If I was just entering for loot and they were just sitting there, depending on where we were in the map I'd probably just leave him be. If I came around the corner and he was facing me though, I'd shoot him.

    Less gun porn

I personally would love to see the return of the Crossbow, not because of hunting goods porn and whatnot but because it actually let me be bloody -stealthy- with a ranged weapon. I could go in to small towns and be dropping Zeds left and right, retrieving my ammunition as I went without a worry that I was telegraphing my position to every yahoo bandit in the region. The best part was, getting the drop on some bandit because of that fact. Can't name the number of times I came in to a building (like an office or church) with good loot in it only to catch a bandit with their pants -totally- down and shove all 18 inches of that steel bolt right up his backside and get a kill in one or two hits. If he took more than one bolt, I just dropped my crossbow and pulled out my hatchet to finish him off.

    Avoidance and Armor

I'm pretty sure being fit doesn't make you require less food, in fact the opposite. There being fewer and smaller fat deposits on your body (energy waiting to be used as energy cannot be created or destroyed) you require food intake much more than someone who is a bit chubby. People who are in shape and eat right don't eat less, they actually eat way more. The key is frequency over volume, a lot of people that I know in shape tend to snack throughout the day and have maybe one or two "big" meals at the beginning or middle of the day.
  22. I'm really just saddened some times seeing threads like this hosted by people who get off on ruining other peoples' days (more like DayZ amiright? hurr hurr) What makes me feel at least somewhat jovial about players like these is at least their persistence in the idea that what they're doing is for the betterment of anything other than their own schadenfreude (to be fair they did identify an issue with spawns as they are, doesn't make what they're doing any less of a dick move though).

Welcome to DayZ, where the rules are made up and the gear doesn't matter.
