  1. So I just thought I would post a list of things I think should be added to DayZ. This list is broad and covers several aspects of DayZ which is why I'm making a new topic. Also remember these are just my opinion. Feedback, debates, more suggestions, and constructive criticism is welcome. Being a bigot is not. So here it goes, Food: More food. Different foods give different amounts of blood. I just think there should be more variety then beans and pasta. Not much for me to say here. Fell free to expand. Survival More things to hunt you then just zombies. There's not enough of a survival side to the game with just zombies and bandits. Go live in the woods and avoid both. My suggestions Wild animals:Animals that may attack and hunt you, such as bears, wolves, cougars, etc. Each with their own amount of blood, damage, and aggro range. NPCs:I know the original point of the game was that all people where in fact people. But the simple fact is that most people are either bandit or hero, black&white. With that so many people can't trust others that it becomes a moot point. My suggestions on what npc's could be implemented into the game. Serial-Killers:NPC's that have only one goal. Kill. wehther it's zombies or people they just want to see rivers of blood. Armed with melee weapons and weak fire arms, Serial-Killers stalk the cities with their armnaments or wait inside buildings to attack any foolish enough to wander near. A few parameters for them is that they A:Will not attack unless provoked,or a player enters their LoS within 30-50m B:Will not persue players if they leave their "patrol one" such as the city, C:will react to damage and even give up the attack if outgunned. (Easter egg of Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees perhaps?) Medics-NPC's that wander the roads to help the injuried. These NPCs will help any player not in combat by bandageing players or administoring morphine or blood. These NPCs are rare and killable (3-4 per server) and cannot be looted. They will fight back if attacked with mid tier weapons. Creatures: More so as just an easter egg for the game but creatures from the Chupacabra, bigfoot, Slenderman, ghost, wherewolves, vampires, the grim reaper, etc. would add a bit of horror and humor to the game and give players something new to do. Imagine if a wherewolf was on the server that would seem like any player/NPC at day then at night change to a wolf (or wolfman) and attack. This would also give players the ability to be Monster hunters. All ranging to being doomed if encountered to virtually harmless. Military-Military NPC's that patrol in squads and attack zombies or players that attack them. They can also be in military vheicles and may offer assistance through rides, medical help, ammo, etc. They may also offer to pick up players for "evacuation" for a possible server event. They carry high tier weapons and only spawn during the day and very rarely Survivors-NPC survivors that can be found in the wild or on roads traveling from city to city. Most times they just ignore players unless attacked in which case they fight back with any weapon, based of that weapon's spawn chance. They may be found in different situations such as, passed out on the side of the road, sitting injured possibly bleeding out, chased by zombies, turning infected, etc. All of which the player can help or hinder them for a humanity bonus (so that those who cannot find other players can still gain/lose humanity) and possible rewards ranging from food to mid tier guns. Weapons: More weapons in DayZ, mainly melee weapons. Rarity posted with weapon Machete (common)-to be found in residential areas. Chainsaw (uncommon)-found in residential areas, possibly needing gas to run. Sound attracts zombies as trade-off for power. *melee dinner bell* Knives-(Very common) both melee and throw able versions found anywhere. Brass knuckles-(rare) what more is there to say? found in residential zones Clubs-from trench clubs to golf clubs. Bats, pipes, and canes too. where found and rarity depending on variant. Sword-(rare) long reach blade for slicing. found anywhere, katana, broadsword, shortsword, longsword etc. More guns would be cool but there are also so many. Just some I would like to see P90-(Rare) Striker-(very rare) *semi-auto shotgun with drum cylinder* Bolt-action rifle-any variant of wooden bolt action hunting rifle. AA12-(Ultra Rare) AR-15-a semi auto, weaker variant from just an M4 on semi. Sawed-off-a sawed off shotgun, possibly taking up the side-arm slot Derringer-(common) Flintlock pistol-(very rare) more as a gag then anything I still think it would be cool to see one in the game regardless of impracticality USP-(rare) P99-(rare) Glock 18-(ultra rare) full auto variant G36-(rare) XM8-(ultra rare) Compound bow-(common) damage/range based on time fire button is held Grenade Launcher-(ultra rare) something like the Rocket Launcher. Powerful and rare but completely impractical. Clothing: More clothing options. There's what? five outfits? Perhaps some more varients and styles. I mean did everybody who survive the apocalypse have the same outfit? Police uniform Riot gear Soldier's gear Hazmat leather jacket outfit Tactical civilian gear biker suit plain civilian (lose tactical vest and gear etc. Keep backpack of course) suit So yeah just my ideas. Feel free to add or debate. Thanks.

    List of suggestions

You know your right. I may have over reacted. I apologize. However I'm still sticking to my overall ideas except the bits about the mythological creatures, although I think Bigfoot would be a funny easter egg as an animal to kill and gut. Hand in answer to your question. Yes, I would run around in full riot gear.
  3. So, I have a private server up and running for my friends and myself. It's been great being able to help each other without bandits or hackers. But we want to know how to change the starting gear for the server. We where thinking of opening the private server for others to join us but we want to be able to set a (what we believe as) more realistic starting load out. We also want to know how to give players skins such as the Soldier or Rocket skins as we where planing on using this as an Admin identification method in game. As in Players with Soldier are server moderators with Rocket skins for admins. If anyone can help me out and let me know where I can modify these whether it's in the database or config files. I'm using HFBServers with TCAdmin if that helps.

    Better zombies

How about. Realistic zombies based on rigor mortis system. Zombies are the reanimated corpse of the infected. Like corpses they go through three stages. Fresh zombies are physically just as capable as they where as host. They run/sprint like the person they where and are a major threat, however as a corpse they eventually under go rigor mortis causing their muscles to seize up and cause them to move slowly and jerky. After the third phase the muscular tissue relaxes again and the zombie regains most of its prior physical abilities but as it has now almost no living tissue in it's body it begins to deteriorate as it moves. The body cannot regenerate from damage including the constant tearing of muscle tissue from normal movement. Thus causing them to eventually break down to the point in which they are of no threat any more. Though this process from first to last stage takes mere weeks the final stage and the over all zombies life span can last for years depending on the environment.

    Cannibalism

Perhaps make it as a simple progression system. eating one serving probably wouldn't affect you to terribly badly. (Can't say I've never eaten someone) So if you eat one person for survival, yeah your humanity takes a hit but you can still play it off to others that your perfectly sane. Then as you continue to feed (if you do) you slowly begin to gain little shivers and the occasional out burst. Till you become a twitching, hysterically laughing, manic, sociopath. Probably based on no prior knowledge or research after your 4th or 5th body you get to there. Also, I think humanity lost should be based on how low your hunger is at the time. Granted it will be a very low drop no matter what, but say if your at the brink of death it'll only drop a quarter way then as if you weren't really hungry at all, and it drops to negative infinity. Also, I'm not sure about the actual effects of kuru but I think that feeding should (somewhat) reduce the shaking/laughing. Not completely but a little bit. Also if eating flesh cures hunger perhaps there could be a separate option to drink blood to cure thirst? I have absolutely no knowledge if that would work or not. Just saying.

    Zombies aggro each other

As a man who has dedicated three years of his life learning about zombies. I approve entirely. If one zombies sees a player and goes sprinting others will take notice and come look. If they see the player they sprint, so on so forth. As far as them being more aggressive I wouldn't say they should be constantly hunting and using squad tactics to flank and trap. These are, at least from the current version of the game, are single minded beast. Not intelligent predators. Zombies react on drive not survival They don't think about how to catch the prey only that they really, really want to. Zombies are not animals but something all their own, they don't need to eat they only desire eating. So unless they see the food their they're not going to waste their time looking for it as much as say, a wolf would. Now none of this should be implemented before the homing device the zombies seem to have gets fixed. But as far as them thinking collectively, realistically it shouldn't extend to anything more then a "follow the leader" type of reactions.

    Night and Day, universal time

Just throwing in my two cents. My computer has a hard time running on high-populated servers (not sure if it's my hard/software or the game) so I'm forced to play night servers as daylight servers are almost always to packed. That said I also can;t play half the night servers because the moon is always gone. If every server was stuck on the same time then I have a 50/50 chance of it being playable when I can play, which means a 50/50 chance of EVER being able to play DayZ. I'm not a gambling man and not about to start with those odds. I'm a lone wolf. I take pride in my (crappy) ability to navigate, search, and fight in the gray-scale colors of full moon's night. Hell why not just call me a vampire. But I know that 98% of the DayZ community likes having friends and playing during the day. So it's a 50/50 shot that either they or myself is screwed. Either way, it kills DayZ. Sorry mate, but IMO this idea is gonna get sacked.
  12. Dude. Someone disagreed with you, don't have a tiff. Just accept that some people have different views as you. I can however see what your saying as far as the "Choose when spawning" aspect. That would work at first, everyone would shoot the bandits the survivor would all team-up. Problem is, only the survivors get a penalty. Bandits do whatever they want and get rewarded where survivors get penalized for say shooting that twit that just stole your hummer. "Hey, we have trust issues, they stole my hummer! Get over it!" is how I would approach the situation and admittedly it can and has gotten me shot at. But I can't shoot back because then I have worse shakes then kuru and can't shoot straight ever again. The problem also is that some people will pick bandit to help their clan who they are talking to in team speak to be a "Mercenary" per say to just clear out survivors for the survivors of their clan. or people who will pick the survivor skin to get close to people and rob them blind. Picking first also has the problem that, what if the thug life isn't for me anymore? Well time to go kill myself and lose all my hard worked supplies. It needs to be actively adaptive to all situations because people do change.

    Cannibalism

Fallout never got that rep and there is slavery, cannibalism, prostitution, bounty hunting, dismemberment, raiding, conspiracy, and even mutated-inbred-satanic-hillbillies (FO:3 Point Lookout) I've never seen any news headline about it.

    left handed player character

As a south-paw I would love the option to be left handed in the game. That said, being must guns are right handed I've learned to shoot just as proficiency with either hand even though i'm more comfortable with my left. Also, for those saying it would kill realism as brass would hit you in the head a lot. Most guns eject their spent cases at angles mostly to the right-up-forward direction (yeah that's the best phrasing I could come up with) Now, I'm not saying no gun does but I've never had the problem with getting hit with MY brass. I have gotten hit by brass from shooters standing next to me and yes it does singe a bit sometimes. If a south-paw feature was added I'd be happy, if not I wouldn't cry about it. Also, as an extra suggestion if it is implemented perhaps the game could also implement the feature of Left, Right, and Ambidextrous weaponry (yes they have them) in which that if A:right handed player picked up a left handed gun their shots will be slightly off for a certain amount of time (them getting used to it) until it would aim the same. Even if it didn't go as far as that I still think being able to see animations for both left and right handed shooters firing same and off handed weapons.

    Wallets (add to the immersion)

This topic made me lol till my sides ached. The wallet is very easy to implement. As stated before many players want a trophy for their kills. IDs are great for that which would be found in a wallet. It doesn't need to be an option but perhaps a function. Example: You walk up the the corpse of a player and you use the wheel to highlight "Check wallet" the game will then tell you "They where Playername from playerdefinedlocation" Or better yet show your player picking it up and viewing it in first person for increased immersion. Yes I know we have "examine body" now but there's not much immersion to it. You look at the body and learn everything about them as if we're cyborg aliens with neural scanners. Also, just because someone has an idea, or view that differs from yours don't get in a tiff just simply and calmly state how you disagree and why. Perhaps you can both eventually find a common ground.

Lets Make the Zombies Not Dumb

If you ask me, It seems people are wanting to have unbeatable smart zombies that kill you within seconds of starting a game solo. Really people we don't need more powerful zombies. It's a virus outbreak not hell on earth. DayZ not DOOM.

Sticky notes, infected animals and more!

I like all the ideas except currency. Trading is cool but I just can't see currency working out. Sorry mate. Notes and posters are great. Warn players of "your territory" like *ZORC is watching you!* or just *Zombies ahead* to *Sniper watching Cherno!* or simply just gags like *Go to the Winchester and wait for all this to blow over* Infected animals. I like the idea but it would have to be very well balanced. I see what everyone is saying about zombies DO drop things. but the fact is not alot nor often. IMO they should drop same stuff but more often. Wallet. I loved the wallet idea for id's and stuff. It's a more realistic way to identify people and would add a "trophy" system to it. Maybe even have zombies drop wallets with randomized ids in them? Spray can. I like it, but almost the same as the notes idea. Still cool idea. I'd love to blind a zombie with some spray paint ^.^ Tape. Yes I like the idea but chat clients would ruin it. Also perhaps use tape as something to use with repairs and possibly needed for putting up the before mentioned notes/posters? Also I just love the idea of being able to be walking with my pals (one of which is very talkative) and just slapping some duct tape over their mouth to get them to shut the hell up! lol More Teamwork. YES! Also, Dick from Deadrising Case:Zero kept a shop open in a zombie apocalypse. Just saying.

    List of suggestions

Like I said. Simply a list of things that I thought would be cool in my opinion. Also in regards to food and such being rarer has little standing. It shouldn't be that they are rarer but that spawns shouldn't reset so often. Because if there was an apocalypse there would be a shit ton of food and loot in the beginning then diminish as people looted it. So it just off the bat being rare is also unrealistic but perhaps if loot spawns wouldn't respawn every five minutes. Maybe every few hours or possibly not till server restart. In regards to the clothing, it wasn't a matter of "Oh I want to look cool" They could have features to them such as Hazmat makes you less likely to get sick and resistance to the elements due to the sealed full body coverage. Riot Gear making you damage resistance at a cost of speed, same with soldier's gear. The biker and leather jacket's can give resistance to zombie/melee damage. Plus just to break up the monotony without having to be either villain or hero to get a different outfit. As far as the weapons, yes I agree some high powered weapons spawn too often, doesn't mean different guns can't exist. Frequency of spawns and the number of guns are unrelated. Also just because it's a bad idea to use something like a chainsaw doesn't mean no one would. With your argument why are there guns at all. If we should only use weapons that won't attract zombies then let's remove everything but the suppressed MP5,M9, and the crossbow. NPCs I can see your point, on the flip side it would allow players to encounter more then just bandits when playing. Because at this point in DayZ there's very little "Need help? Here I come!" It's just "Oh look a survivor. Kill him for gear" or "Oh a survivor better kill him before he kills me" Of course severe adjustments to spawn chance would need to be made. As far as the creatures YES it is unrealistic and strange but what game doesn't have things in it as a joke? Easter eggs are something for fun to look for. Like I said I thought it would be cool doesn't mean everyone would. This list was based on my opinion and play-style. You have yours I have mine. But just because you don't want it doesn't mean it's a good idea or that anyone else does.
  19. How do you feel about females playing DayZ or other games in general? Do you go out of you way to help/kill suspected female players? Do you think girls can hold their own in games? Does it scare you when a girl gets behind the wheel in a Ural? lol jokes. 1: I don't care. Girls play, Guys play, we all play. 2:Nope. I think of all unidentified players as one thing. Another survivor. 3:It's a matter of the player. Some can some can't. Gender has nothing to do with it. 4:It scares me when anybody get's behind the wheel in a Ural.
  20. I am all for this idea for two reasons. 1:As a DayZ player for a couple months now I have noticed that using the "Live in the forest" strategy is just... safe... There's nothing really hunting you at that point and really nothing to be afraid of except the occasional bandit or helo passing by. I think having something that lived in the wooded areas of DayZ would add that bit of horror that is to easily avoided by just packing up and living in sticks. 2:I love Slendy. So I am all for something that lives and hunts in the woodland areas. Slenderman has always hunted and killed in woods so it's perfect. Just a few things I feel should be changed to the original idea. -Teleportation:Only change I think is to make it so that Slendy may appear behind objects even if the players is looking at said ogject so long as the player cannot see Slendy. Also for the few buildings out in the middle of nowhere make it so Slendy can spawn/teleport inside of said buildings. Regardless if the player is inside or out. -Attacking:Just to change on the agrro range. I do believe a maximum should be implemented so as to keep him from accidently teleporting from say outside the international airfield to Cherno. Also I think an "active area" or area in which Slendy is allowed and not allowed to operate. This will prevent him from attacking players in cities. Also a think a sound should be associated with Slendy's attack so that a player actually knows they are being attacked by him, and that there should be times where Slendy is in range but not attacking just to give him a more unnerving feel. -Spawning: I think Slenderman should be set to only spawn during the night and further more will respawn at dusk and despawn at dusk regardless of what he is doing. I also think that as far as him dying it shouldn't be as black and white as "Slendy has been killed." I think his "death" should be simply him disappearing when his blood reaches 0 and that he simply just be gone for a set amount of time (say 3-4 hours) unless it conflicts with his day/night spawn cycle. This will make him more horrific instead of making the player say "He's dead" instead it's "He's gone for now..." Extra things: I think Slenderman should have a few extra things associated with his presence. One is to cause flashlights to flicker when he is within a certain range. Not a constant flicker but as he get's closer it will click every few seconds or so. Another thing is that he should also not be as aggresive as the zombies. Being that he stalks a player for a long time before moving in for the kill. Another thing is that I think having other players around should not affect his targeting. Perhaps if multiple players are close to each other add a targeting parameter to him such as "Slendy will attack the player with the least humanity, or blood before the others." as an example. Another thing is that if a player escapes Slendy by going to civilization that he will continue to "stalk" them for awhile before getting a new target. This means that even though you are out of the woods it is possible to see him staring you down from the edge. To make it more unnerving to be stalked by Slendy. Just some ideas for the Slenderman idea. I think that this idea if executed properly will add unfathomable amounts of horror to the game. Also maybe if Slenderman is to far-fetched perhaps something more believable could be used. Such as a named serial-killer. But this is a Slenderman thread so I'll leave that for another time.
