Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
sniperdoc replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Dude... really? I could give two sh*ts about him leaving. I'm saying that announcing his leaving 10-months ahead of time was a bad idea. That's all. Fudge me!!! Reading comprehension really has dropped tremendously... -

This situation, with Dean leaving, isn't unusual in game development. It happens. However, that he announced it in an interview... I think was poor form. I can't help to wonder if he didn't think about the repercussions that this would have, whether intended or unintentional. A lot of people start second guessing, what-if's start popping up, and then the moderators have their hands full... honestly... I think it was a piss-poor and totally not thought out move. I can't believe that BIS actually would have sanctioned that interview. The fact that Dean gave 10-months notice and caused this sh*tstorm of a rumor-mill doesn't bode well on his involvement with DayZ at all. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if he was forced out of the door as soon as the logistics are sorted out by BIS. This is one prime example why most big developers keep their mouths shut about things like this. Example, Irrational Games shutdown. We didn't know it was going to happen until it happened. This announcement... poorly thought out... poorly presented and honestly... I hope DayZ SA doesn't suffer due to negligence. -

And reading comprehension has dropped through the cracks on that one. I'm not saying that the interview has anything to do with SimCity... If you carefully read and understood what I wrote, I'm saying that as gamers we allow too much crap to happen to us. In this case the comment was made that this individual didn't care that it was only 30 bucks... so yes... it's PERSPECTIVE as you stated... but that doesn't mean it is correct. Just because you may not give a crap that you just paid 30 bucks for something, there's 100's of 1,000's of others that think the same way. That's the same as telling a company, "hey it's ok... take my money, I don't give a flying f*ck that you took it and didn't follow through with a promise." I'm also NOT saying that the same will happen in this case... I'm purely speaking about the "don't care" attitude. THAT is what will continue to take our rights away as gamers. No one willing to stand up for anything until it is too late... that is my point. -

You, like many other people, are the problem. You give companies like EA, Ubisoft, Creative Assembly, BIS, etc the authority to take legal tender, which was given on good faith for the company to complete a product, but then allow the company to not follow through on that contract (a receipt is a contract). It may just be 30 dollars, however, when taken to the n-th degree... that 30 bucks from thousands of people is a sizable sum of money. Which means the company must fulfill its promise. The only thing we agreed to in this case, is the fact that it will be buggy until it is finished. Upon which time, the game's problems have been sorted out, should be in a fully functional state and thereby fulfilled the contract of purchase. I can accept buggy alphas. I can even accept paying into having access to them... but I don't accept if a vendor does not follow through on a contract. Period. So, while you may be OK with your $30 of entertainment, even if the shop closed tomorrow... it is not the right thing to do. Because then, we're just saying it's ok to sell us s**t. As it is, gamers aren't taken seriously and companies take advantage of us. Look at SimCity. Look at Rome 2 Total War or Empire Total War. Look at Diablo 3... these are all ways that gamers are being made fools of and there are hundreds of thousands of retards saying it's ok... and it isn't. -

I guess some people don't know how the business world works. Just because he says he will still be involved doesn't mean he will be. How many people on this forum consistently go and visit their previous place of employment and/or do work for them? How many people remain in contact with their previous employers? What happened here is a 10-month termination. I've given notice at my current job 7 months ahead of time because I had no idea if it'd be leaving in 1 month (Dec '13) or if my wife was going to get assigned her position in August '14. My job already hired my replacement... how does that make me feel? Not very easy, that's for sure. My job's paying two salaries right now instead of a single one. Don't you think that it'd be more money-smart for the company to let me go once the new guy knows his shit? They could decide to let him go as soon as they have a replacement for him. That's it. He lost his ties and any sort of allegiance from BIS the moment he stepped in his boss' office and said he was leaving. Period. What effects Dean has on the process, the pipeline and continued development will be up in the air. Personally, even though I have no idea how he runs his pipeline, I feel there's no direction. Assets are added even though core gameplay elements are still lacking or under-developed. You would figure that assets are the easiest to add and as long as the core elements are working, should be cinch to implement. Why have rabbits (with Zombie sounds) when you can't do anything with them yet, and are at this point, a pure annoyance and taking up processing resources? I know it's a small thing, but here's a lot of these "small things" and that's a problem. Anyways... I'm off my soap box. This move by Dean was weird and I hope BIS follows through on the vision of DayZ. -

Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
sniperdoc replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Really? I guess someone didn't read the thread about how the little kiddies have no clue about developing a game... don't like it... stop playing until it is out of beta. It's not YOUR vision. It's not YOUR development cycle or even YOUR development pipeline. It's Dean's. So, STFU, stop bitching like a little girl that dropped her icecream, or stop playing.- 604 replies

Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
sniperdoc replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Didn't see that (and am glad that the issue was resolved)... I know that shooting military surplus ammo through my Remington 700 LTR will ruin my grouping like crazy... However, that still doesn't change the fact that the accuracy of either rifle is still the same, when we're talking statistics. Also, something that was brought to my attention by a security contractor friend of mine... compare costs. To get a fully decked out M4/AR15 would probably cost about $2200, that's with ACOG, Trijicon sights, picatinny rail setup, laser, flashlight etc... You won't find a fully decked out G36© for less than $5,000. Plus magazines are proprietary to the G36 line. The M4 is much more mod friendly and universal than the G36, at least in my opinion... -
Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
sniperdoc replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
I am German, and as much as I am proud of German engineering... THIS does happen: http://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article106223581/Deutsches-Sturmgewehr-fuer-langen-Kampf-untauglich.html For those that can't read German, essentially it states that the G36 rifle has been found to have major problems with maintaining a shot group past 200m if the rifle is hot. Understandably, this is probably only an issue with longer engagements, but personally I'd rather have something that's reliable at all times. I've also heard complaints that the G36's optics become a pain in rain or high moisture conditions because the water makes it blurry or the lens foggy. I also hear that the shot group is about 4 inches at 100 yards for the G36C, which is about the same for the M4. So, if you're comparing apples to apples, a CQB (close quarter battle) weapon to another CQB weapon, such as the G36C to the M4... then they perform about the same, the G36C is probably more reliable, however the sights suck when you've got it at the ready position for an extended period of time, which you won't get if it uses a similar picatinny rail sight system like the M4/AR (which some SWAT teams have done to mitigate the lens fogging issue). Of course, if your only experience with rifles is COD/BF3/BF4 then just keep playing your games and stop blowing smoke up people's arses... ;) -
New Update Rolling out on experimental 0.36.115535
sniperdoc replied to Rancor's topic in General Discussion
You know... it'd be really nice to have female sounds on the female avatar... kind of creepy to have a man's breathing sound on a woman's character... ;) That should take all of what... 1 hour of recording? :) -

Except that your post is extremely difficult to follow and filled with ramblings and items not pertinent to the issue, e.g. no one cares about "IT Professional" or "MMORPG" history. Try bulleted layout per each issue. Not trying to be a smartass or unfriendly... but people don't like books when doing bug squashing. AND... you may want to post these items on the feedback page, instead of this thread. -
After Joining Three Full 64/64 Man Servers I was Shocked To Find
sniperdoc replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Besides... those that are starving aren't expanding their search out to smaller places or heading inland. I have no problem finding food if I head inland. -
Definitely for certain it was not anyone around me. It was low pop and I was in a huge field with no one around. Pretty much many km's away from anywhere people would want to be. And definitely was NOT a walkie talkie, because the sound level never changed when I ran. It was always the same level. And yes... I almost sharted. "Oh F*ck! Oh F*ck!" After I ran what seemed like a km, looking around, I didn't see anyone and just logged. I don't know if it's that "bubble" that was mentioned either. Most of those sounds are usually subdued (like they're off in the distance), so wouldn't that mean the voip would be as well?

Is Sniper too powerfull ? how did the mod handle this?
sniperdoc replied to Foolz's topic in New Player Discussion
Actually... what they SHOULD DO, because LOD with distance gets worse, and what you thought was a bush covering you, shows you sitting clear in the open from far away, is have a system like in Blackhawk Down by Novalogic. When you hid in a bush you were actually partially see-through/semi-invisible. I love the graphics in DayZ standalone. They did such a great job. However, the engine is severely limiting in keeping you hidden when you are hiding in a bush or a tree. From far away you stand out like a sore thumb, and that, really ruins the game for me. -

There also seem to be these intermittent latency spikes where the graphics almost appear to freeze for a half a sec. But, the cause isn't client side. It appears to be a server side problem. When I play with friends we all notice the spikes at the same time. We'd call out "spike" when any one of us got it, and pretty much without fail everyone would respond with "yeah, yep or ditto." Sync seems to be a major hit as well now... Also, this issue persists across SEVERAL servers. Not just a single one. -
Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.34.115106
sniperdoc replied to mattlightfoot's topic in News & Announcements
Servers are causing major frame rate issues and occasionally hang the client. No idea why. Just noticed even with FANTASTIC ping, 16 - 30's, DayZ would all the sudden just get really choppy and on several occasions has caused my client to freeze (not responding), requiring me to use Task Manager to kill the game. Not a good patch deployment gents...would almost have been better to wait... :( -
Seriously... they abuse 3PP so much they can't even play in fps anymore.

sniperdoc replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Actually... why shouldn't you be able to strap a rifle on top or below a backpack? Heavy Guns does it all the time...? If anything, I think the things going into backpacks really need to be adjusted, i.e. the amount of slots items take up. Why are some hats 2 slots and others a single. Why do shirts and pants take up 4 slots? etc... -
Change the size of clothing items and other pack related things
sniperdoc posted a topic in Suggestions
So, just for some discussion, I think that all clothing items should only be one or two slots in size. Recently, I noticed that some hats are single slot items and others are two slots... those items really should get fixed and be made one slot each. This got me thinking back to the days of humping a 60 - 100lbs mountain ruck for miles on end and I was curious why shirts and pants take up so much room in the packs? I could see a combat vest, because you really can't fold it too well... but shirts and pants can be rolled into little cylindrical shapes, or you can fold them flat and place them in the pack without taking up too much room. Beanies, Zmijovka Caps, Radar caps, etc... they should all only take up 1 slot. The Zmijovka is currently two. I think the baseball caps might be two as well. Helmets, hard covers and such, should probably take up four slots. Also, a rifle should be able to be placed in the pack (i.e. strapped on top of the pack) without taking up too much room. -

I am curious about these items. One is kind of addressed in this patch, the Svetlo structures spawning loot. However, is the tents issue being resolved as well? How soon until loot spawns actually reproduce loot, instead of server reboots being the work-around. Shouldn't be too hard to add timers? Maybe even a global timer to do the loot/zombie respawning? Is this on the horizon at all yet? -

Curious, these are known issues, but are they going to get addressed in this patch? I see some of the items mentioned, but nothing about lot not spawning in the tents? -

Your comment would have been much nicer without the "winer" reference. "I'm excited to see the new stuff" would have definitely sufficed. How about propagating some positivity... -
I think what MurQ posted is precisely what DayZ needs to keep it as a Zombie Survival game... Currently (yes, it is just an alpha), it is not suited for this and people are using their guns without repercussion and killing other players indiscriminately. I posted the same exactly solution a while ago on the Mod forum and I firmly believe that tying zombie horde spawning to noise is a perfect and viable solution to: 1. Instill fear in using guns 2. Brings back the Zombie to the Running Simulator 4000 3. Cuts down on unnecessary and needless killing of new players If a player discharges a weapon in a large city, like Cherno, then the horde should be large. If discharged in the woods, the amount of zombies could be reduced. However something like this would be implemented, I think it would definitely help the game-play and stop it from being a Deathmatch type gameplay.
