Just an idea, but is it an option to set voicechat to direct chat only by default (since everyone hates people who spam the global chats)? And for have a group communicating over a long distance (group chat) they'd have to find radio's and set channels (make a group channel) for long range communication? And I don't know if it the engine will allow it, but batteries found (with variable amounts of energy still stored) for the flashlights, radio's and other electronical equipement. And being able to charge them at the powerstations or other points on the grid or them just being expendible goods to trade possibly. Just some idea's that sprang to mind when watching a vid with group ops and some random guy ranting over global chat. Lemmy know if you think it has potential. :)

Will this include a new chance to change character to female? Cuz my friend wants to play female and he did get changed back on death. Just wondering.
-
Í'm sure someone mentioned it already, but male characters are turning into males again.

I don't mind dying that much, sure it's annoying to lose your stuff, but it's the struggle for supplies that put your into the danger zone, which is the thing that creates this game's atmosphere imho. I'd rather see something done about the long wait times and the respawning in the state just before you died last time (without changing servers) It's annoying to have to wait 5-10 minutes to die again from bleeding out and having to start the wait again. I think, that is the bigger problem right now. People will find to avoid deaths somehow anyway.

So do I! I think the radio would soon become a tool of importance. It will allow you to talk to people you don't know who you happen to find on a channel and meet up (for better or worse) I also think that adding batteries for it and the flashlight and possibly the NV googles. Power could become a form of currency. Since I assume to powerplant doesn't actually work since the cities don't have any lighting of their own. It would add yet another layer of realism to the game imo and I truely think it would be fun to scavenge for batteries to charge my battery pack and trading power with someone for a bloodpack or some juicy beans. How about you folks?

Finally no more bandit skin! I praise this mainly because it registered self defence kills as murders with -humanity which lead to unwanted bandit skins and meta gaming. Praise the Rocket!

I could imagine a scenario, where a survivor would stumble upon a radio and try asking for help on different random channels. While, somewhere on the map, someone is just searching a town and happens to hear a voice with some static comming from a bin and stumbles upon a radio that happened to be set to the channel the other one was talking over. Would they become friends, would they hunt eachother. I think the idea leaves so many options to explore it'll be actually interresting to see what people come up with. I think this whole mod thing is one big psychological test. What will people do when given the choice. Thnx for the interrest, hopefully a dev will notice this and check out the possibility.

Haha, and have it attract alot of bandits and mutants, erhm... I mean zeds, but have a private army keeping you safe to fight the good fight :) That would be one hell of a job to pull of, but the thougher the job, the more interresting and prestigeus it is right? Party on brothers!

Ha!. Well I did love the fallout 3 music. Ladies and gentlemen this is 3-daawg :)

I dunno if you should be completely cut off without a radio, new players could need help (although a good set of tutorials linked on the site could take care of that) It would however, be completely realistic. I don't really know if there could be 2 types of radio's. Portable that only have a group communication purpose, and placed ones, in public type buildings that give access to global chat. But perhaps switching channels on a radio is the way to go. What would you do if you whre all alone with a working radio, right? Although I think that might be to complicated. It is just something that sprang to mind. Show interrest if you have it :)

I wouldn't mind being able to backstab a zed to safe ammo. But I think that should be the only 1 shot kill a knife can do, and only on zeds. not players (although, you'll need to watch you back more.

Megathread of short tutorials for...everything
Defhrone replied to zekez's topic in New Player Discussion
You forgot to mention shock. although I don't know if it is currently in the game (I haven't experienced it myself) and hyperventilating (which I've also, just seen in a vid) -
A simple solution to identifying bandits post 1.5.9.
Defhrone replied to thoxon's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Top poster... your idea is horrible. It is not realistic which is what makes this game so great. Do you walk along the street at night and hover your curcor over people to see howmany people they have killed? And even if so, how do you know that the 'kills' are not self defence? Current system is broken, but your suggestion is potentially worse. It will take away from the immersion. The whole point of this game is not getting killed by zombies and who can you really trust. I do happen to have a bandit skin, due to the system not registering propperly who takes the first hit. I have currently globally killed 4 people and I am not proud at all. But in this game, you have to protect your beans or die trying, and believe me.. I have died trying. The fact that people are still not penalised for shooting a bandit just makes the survivors triggerhappy when they see one. Today I hooked up with 2 survivors which didn't shoot on sight and we ended up having to kill someone taking shots from the top of the crane... And guess what? One of them turned bandit because he did the kill. It is soo clearly broken right now it's just not funny anymore. Anyway, the trailer of this mod should tell you that being paranoid when you encounter a player IS part of the game. Having any background info you can just read of your HUD will take that away and is totally unrealistic. Go watch 'the Mist' humans under treat will do inhumain stuff. That doesn't make them inhuman, it makes them survivors. -
If this where a stand alone game. I'd easily pay upto 50 euro's for it. I have dremt of a game like this ever since the Fallout series whent FPS. Monthly sub... perhaps if it where an actual MMO and the map be even bigger (world map maybe?) But I preffer not having monthly subs in general unless new features and content are added regularly. Also, don't pull a blizzard and ask for subs and extra money for every 'expantion' I thougth that was what subscriptions where about. Free updates and shit :)

Love it! But I'm Dutch, and we ride our bikes almost everywhere. We even have a think called a bike holiday (I wouldn't do it but some people here do) It should make squeeky noises and attract zombles doh. Well, maybe if you find a better quality bike it wouldn't, or you need to remove rust with coke or pepsi or something :) I would make the roads a bit more lively :)

I like the idea of needing help with things like the blood transfusions. Perhaps there could also be a reward in trading items. But I still think that it should not be visable what kind of 'type' you play. It just isn't realistic. Current system is clearly broken, and I would love to rant about that hear on how it pisses me off that I got a bandit skin whilst I have a strict 'only shoot when being shot at' policy when it comes to players. and having this skin just perpetuates that. I like to try different survival strategies and having a system that keeps track of your playstyle over several lifes just ruins that completely. The covered in blood thing mentioned isn't a bad idea, but I personally think there shouldn't be a visual representation on your body for it. If you where to kill someone with a hunting knife (if it where possible) a visual representation would be in order, but scavanging a corpse that was shot clean in the head by a sniper wouldn't leave that much blood on you I don't think. (no RL experience ofc) I think this game has much potential because of it's realism, and people act strange in these situations if they occour in real life aswell. Personally I think there should be more interractions that require more than one player, just fullfill the social needs people have, which I think could be a gage on the UI. People cannot live without it (without going nuts) As much as it pains me to say. I still think installing a morality system would damage the realism in the game.
-
I think the 'covered in blood' debuff, suggested in another thread, would better fit cannibalism then just looting a dead player button. Picking the pockets of a man with a hole in the skull is doesn't get you that bloody, and bleeding would have to do the same. But I think you should be able to apply the hunting knife to a human to gain some meat would not be a bad idea. It would be an option in a group survival aswell which would generate paranoia. And if someone offered you human flesh? what would you do? would you eat him or kill him? how did he get it? did he kill the person himself? It's interresting to me
-
Only' date=' no. It takes 2 kills to get bandit skin if your humanity was close or above 2500. Essentially making your first kill a freebie for self-defense type of situations. [/quote'] Depends on the humanity of the person you shot. I went from 2514 to -3000 in one kill. Well, I did kill a total of 3 people so far I think. and in 2 cases I was unconcious because they shot me down that far and mistaken me for a dead person and the other case I just had a lucky headshot. Still, the problem remains. I tried talking to all 3 of the people in a friendly manner and now I don't get to talk, I just get shot. Point is. people are stupid, bandit skins lead to meta gaming and... well people are stupid covers about every point I could add. *edited for typing derp

If some person were a raving lunatic and killing everyone he sees, you'd probably hear about it eventually. A survivor or witness (or in the context of this game, someone who respawned) would tell you the story of this pure evil sociopath and how you should avoid him. Something about his appearance or posture or facial expression... (all stuff that this game can't reproduce, as has been discussed) This just sounds like meta gaming to me. your newly spawned character doesn't know who murdered his predecessor, so that makes no sense to me. The voice com info trader could help, but how would it register what you've seen on screen and what your eyes actually saw. It's just not as easy as that. Also it would just lead to people walking up to eachother and pressing the button once. You can check the body and get some info on the vic, but then you don't know who shot, just what weapon was used. Then what? You could also have an interraction with a person to talk about his past. But he could lie, that could be a system I suppose, roll a dice to detemine if a lie was detected. And if you tell the truth, you give out your zombie/human kills. and it has a chance to register that you are telling the truth (which a random chance to mistake it for a lie) and when a lie is detected, it doesn't show anything, just that the person is lying and you make the call yourself. The interviewed person might or might not know if he has been found out. Just some random thing that popped in my head. Don't judge. All I know is that the current system doesn't work. Since people get shot just for wearing the skin (their choice or not). I've seen vids where people litteraly ask eachother what skin the target is wearing. Survivor, talk to him, bandit, *bang*. That is the essense of meta gaming. You should not know a characters history if you see him for the first time. And tbh, it really pisses me off if I get shot for having the bandit skill, while I got it purely out of selfdefence because some gunho crazy dude unloaded his gun into me and got shot in the head. I would get away with that in court, but I get a skin for god knows how long and judged because of it. It's just plain stupid.

Implement a currency item such as gold coins.
Defhrone replied to Horr1d's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Bottlecaps! Nah, the age old item trade is very likely to naturally reemmerse if an actual appocalypse would happen. -
I like the fact there is been thinking on this subject. Especially since the current system is broken clearly, since I just started the game with a cooperative mindset, but in 1 situation I had to kill to defend myself (I was being shot at) and ever since I have the bandit skin and a huge target on my head. I haven't even played this for more then 4 hours so far. I love the concept of the game, but this skin is ruining my playstyle. I did like the skins idea that was posted, that you could find skins (clothingshop maybe) and wear those. That also allows you to play whatever style you like. Perhaps that pro's and con's system could be applied to said skins. But there are obvious dangers there aswell. Perhaps it should be just from vanity sake. this current system might work if your morality stats don't get carried to your next life. I might wanna play cooperative 1 life, and me a homicidal maniac the next life. I don't want a permanent playstyle bonus which I cannot change or get negative effects for in my next life. In reality you couldn't say if your next door neighbour would be a murderer or not from their appearance. You can only judge his character and take a guess if he is capable of it. In this game, everyone is capable of that, which makes people paranoid which is an awesome immersion effect if I ever seen one. I am affraid that this morality system you are trying to invent (and not just current idea's, but the concept in general) is not gonna be good or effective. Simply because morality is a really complex and difficould issue, even in real life. And like I said, people might fancy trying to survive in the woods hunting games 1 life, and being a killer of opportunity in the next one. An overarching system would potentially ruin the emmersion and experience of the game. Everyone should imho be equal and have the same opportunities like everyone else. Let this virtual world atleast have this blessing we so desperately need in the real world. A utopia, but with zombies and scarse food. :P

duct tape - the possibilties are endless
Defhrone replied to uvpurple's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Duct tape man! gief! Also, gimme an electric guitar to lure zombles with my music so I can tape the cables down so I don't trip -
This bandit thing is pissing me off. Surviving in nighttime with a friend. and them some random guy join us. 2 seconds later shoots me in the face and is proud that he killed a bandit. I am no bandit. I killed 1 guy in selfdefence and got the skin and now, I can't get rid of it. Been handing out pills, morphine and bandage like a (bleep). This meta gaming is just wrong. people are stupid like that. I really hope this gets adressed because I am a nice teamplay kinda guy that just had to defend myself once. It is ruining the survival experience
-
* [FIXED] Spawning in Ocean when switching models (player morphing optimized by TeeTime) And I had high hopes of this morphing being removed (morphing to bandit skin that is), since this leads to meta gaming

Getting random BoSD. granted I play the game since about 21 hours. I was fine this morning. Played 3 hours straigth (well, with the dying that comes with the being a complete newb ofc) no problems. I go get some supplies in the actual real life corner shop and have a chat with mom for a bit. come back, new patch then random BSoD's every max 15 minutes. I'm not sure, but it seems to happen when severly panting after springing a mile or 2. I stop to catch my breath and *pow* I haven't had nearly this much BoSD the last entire year as I got just today (what can I say. I do enjoy the game time I do get) Just got my 5th now. And I just had the basic survival stuff I wanted >< Losing stuff comes with the game, alpha bugs or not right?
