    Live AI helicopter crashes

What about live helicopters or civilian airplanes (controlled by AI) that spawn far away outside of the playable area (over the ocean), circle a bit over Chernarus with random waypoints and crash on a really random location (land, not ocean). With random intervalls of maybe 30 to 120 minutes. It's OK when they crash into a deep, hardly accessible forest or into a big city like Zelenogorsk. I don't know if there's enough non-zombie Arma-AI left in DayZ to make it handle an aircraft. Before they crash, you can see them catch fire and tailspin. Speaking Arma-ish, something like: _x sethit ["motor",1];if ((position _x select 2) < 1) then { _x setdamage 1; [_x] exec "fireandsmoke.sqf"};Concerning the loot, the wreck should be treated like an accessible Arma ammobox, since on really random locations the distribution of single loot-items in DayZ-style around the wreck as at the current crash sites may be inconvenient.

    Live AI helicopter crashes

I know (been modding and scripting for Arma sind 2007). I just wanted to state that such kind of helicopters would be easily to implement within 15 minutes of scripting (if there's AI left for operating air vehicles and non-destroyed 3D models - but most likely it could be copied from Arma or ToH). Of course this is not all code necessary. Just examples. Further explosions and smoke can be added within the air. And of course the devs' knowledge and skills with this stuff is a million times higher than mine. More than the loot, it's more about ambience and the unpredictable live-situations that develop if multiple groups see the plane and rush towards it and fight for it. But why not make it filled with precious loot. When I first heard about the heli-crash-sites a long time ago, I thought, it would be something like this.

Some thoughts from a new player

Sir, no offence, you certainly have the most disgusting avatar picture ever.
  4. The best urban weapon is the double barrel shotgun. But anyway, I agree there are too many fully automatic war weapons available (but reducing their occurence would grant privileges to server owners even more).
  5. Can you fire 60 shots with a M4 without touching the duct-taped 60-rounds magazine (2x30) after 30 shots? Would be quite unrealistic.

    This may seem stupid

Yes. There should be some kind of "single-player offline mode" to be able to try out everything.
  7. The current player list is mainly worthless. Instead this screen should show this information at a single glance (without browsing or clicking something): * server name * server IP * your ping * your desync * running time of the server (hours and minutes) * restart countdown (hours and minutes) * maybe even an information that the admin is playing (not necessarily who) * server message / message of the day (removes the spam in the chat area) In the server browser there should be a separate window with the last 3rdp server and the last 1stp server you have played on. When they are not up currently, it should be marked somehow. There should be an option to display your own desync and ping all the time on screen (maybe in a corner in the size of the weapon zeroing). Again, having your desync in the player list only is almost worthless. On a crowded server you need to browse the long list of names and your name even isn't in the first place or highlighted. Further, with having your desync in that inconvenient player list only, you only notice it when you are already desynced - mostly already for 'many' seconds. On a crowded server it is a pain the ass to confirm your suspicion that you're desynced (not to mention that you even don't notice when you run out of sync and for how long it's already been lasting). And finally, remove this annoying spam (Battleye kicks, player signatures and all this shit, hunger etc). Display body messages in another way (maybe even the good old percentage values in the character window).

too many "do not join" servers to report

I just can repeat myself over and over again. Admins should NOT have the permission to kick people from public servers ("do not join" actually means being kicked). Maybe they might reserve a certain percentage of spots for themselves and clan mates (by defining names or IPs). A guaranteed free spot is what they are paying for (and this may be OK). Not to gain advantages over others by means that lie outside of the actual gameplay. I don't know how to express it. I think I can remember, at the very beginning of the standalone the devs wanted to have a coherent, dangerous world with the same rules for everybody (just split up into several servers - but basically one "world" is like the other). "We pay - our rules". What a bullshit. What would public server owners do without all the people who "just play" without owning one? They would have an extremely boring single player game (playing DAYZ as PvE with friends is more or less like offline single player game mode). The only reason to kick somebody (or block access) should be a countermeasure to cheating (maybe even server hopping). When you have a cheater on the server, you don't know who in the player list it is. So the kicking ability is totally worthless against cheaters. It's only effect is to enable some people equipping themselves with the best gear very safely and quickly and then join a real public server and bring that equipment against others who fight, wait and stealth for their gear in dangerous environments.

    Please wait?

What's this eternal "Please wait..." screen after the countdown?
  10. roguetrooper

    Please wait?

Stable. Sometimes it lasts for 2+ minutes. Further I think, DayZ still suffers the old Arma 2 "feature", where the character is already in the world, but the player is not yet in control of it (despite of fast internet connection and fast PC),

    Inverted texture on repeater?

Is it a mistake or intention because of copyright stuff (engraving on the barrel)?

    Inverted texture on repeater?

When you're in Europe and head VERY far to the east, you end up in north America.

One of the german G36 variants in DayZ

You are aware that all types of guns people suggest will also be directed against those people?
  14. Mkay, this is a lamentation in advance and I don't know what it will be like. Somewhere I read, DayZ will support mods in the future. I fear it will be the same incompatibility-disaster like in Arma. So that - mathematically spoken - x players out there will have almost x game versions that are incompatible to each other. And wouldn't it be a new gateway for cheats?

    Remove books and other ideas

When you've had one liter of water (and are bright green hydrated) and run for 10 minutes, you don't need another liter. Which actually is the case now in DayZ. The need for drinks is rediculous. It feels like a drinking and eating machine simulator.

What can be done about ghosting on public servers?

The game should be able to tell if a player has left the game/server by pressing the "exit button" or by other means (PC crash, being kicked). If so, just disallow to reconnect to the server he has left for 10 (or whatever) minutes. Edit: Hmmm. An admin could kick his friend and allow him to ghost without penalty. Then being kicked should also have a big timer.

Can we move the mic icon somwhere else?

Actually I like the position. Not too central to interfere with sight and not too far away to be overseen. But yeah, it should be freely positionable.

    Same mod-disaster like in Arma?

I'm not concerned about if they will be easy to install, but only about that you won't be able to join 99% of all servers (I don't say it WILL be like this, I'm just uttering thoughts). Somehow I even don't like the two "factions" (1st and 3rd person) we have now. It would be great if you could just click on any random server (version 1.0+)in the list (not full) and you could join. Many mods in Arma just exist because it's possible, not because they are an enrichment. I'd just like to have spoken out my thoughts in advance (if I'm allowed).
  25. Why do you have these symbols in the lower right corner of the screen?
