  1. What I am mainly aiming is when you suddenly encounter somebody who can shoot you easily in that situation within two seconds; where trying to communicate/de-escalate can be your death. When you want to be 100% sure to keep your precious equipment, you "have to" eliminate the potential thread even though you have not started the game/session to kill others.
  2. THIS IS JUST A SUGGESTION OR RANDOM IDEA. NO NEED TO BARK OUT "GO AND PLAY SOMETHING ELSE". What about two kinds of servers? One is PvP (as it currently is), one is PvE. You are allowed to have one character for each server type and they can't be transferred or interact with each other. On PvE players can not inflict damage to other players (guns and explosives) and the zombies are a real danger to a single person (faster, inflicting more damage, harder to 'kill'). Maybe players can also form groups (as is usual MMO's) and the group members' names are displayed above their heads.

Two kind of servers: PvP and PvE

PvE would not function if the ability to kill other players would not be totally disabled (on PvE servers only). In my opinion it's worth an attempt (yes, other things are more important right now to fix/implement/improve). Many people like PvE (with players being unable to kill other players and NPCs being a real thread). On a PvE server there might be restricted areas where PvP is possible (not being able to kill somebody out of the zone from within the zone and other way round). Maybe one of the big DayZ-specific cities with very precious and rare items to spawn only there. I've played EverQuest 2 for six years in a hardcore raid guild. Personally I like PvE more (with controlled PvP). Once more: I don't dislike DayZ for the lack of PvE-only-options. And I don't want to quit because of this. Just playing around with a few ideas.
  4. I AM NOT COMPLAINING, just stating. I know, it's Alpha. I like Rocket and the work he does. But since it is Alpha, one must be allowed to utter what could be improved to make the Gold status as complete as possible right from the beginning. Somehow for me it feels like playing a mod that is made with insufficient tools and not something that is meant to become a proper full prize title (no, I can NOT do it better). Don't know how to express it. Looking at Arma 2 and 3, everything feels and looks smoother and of higher quality (I'm not talking about frames per second and not the graphics engine itself): interface, controls, player animations, functionality. Maybe it should have done even with the A3 engine. To repeat it once more: I am not disappointed and I am not complaining. I'm just interested in a final game (some time) that comes along smooth, good looking and playable.

Feels like a backyard mod made with insufficient tools.

But taking time to spam your useless comment. What is a forum good for when you are not allowed to share opinions?

    Separate player chat window

There should be a separate window for written player chat ONLY. No system messages. No body messages. Plain and simple player chat. Everything else in another window. When somebody uses voice chat, his name should be displayed while he is talking.
  7. Though it is an Alpha, why are there no items on the map? Within 10 km², you encounter one piece of food and one zombie (mkay, the focus is on PvP and the zombies are just an excuse why the world has fallen apart). 1. With this food rate it is like playing with an implemented, automatic countdown that makes you die after one hour of gameplay. 2. Further, the character needs food and drink in intervals that are way too short. In RL you also only need to eat every few hours. 3. The flashlight is not working. So when it's getting dark, you can leave the server, since sitting in front of a pitchblack screen is pointless.
  8. There is one thing that I've never understood and I will never understand. What is the reason to use a console gamepad for a shooter when you have a working mouse on your desk?

I am just getting totally bored with DayZ

Then play Arma II as it was meant to be played: start the game without dayz, open the editor, get yourself into scripting and thinking and make your own maps. The editor is Arma's main feature. All the stuff around the editor are just by-products.
  10. How long do you wait in the "loading" screen until you abort the game (to select another server)? I wait for max half a minute. Anyway it's either done within 5 seconds or it's stuck forever.
  11. A custom face size of 0 (zero) should the default (and unchangable) DayZ setting. This would surely reduce unnecessary traffic. Probably useless to suggest this in the suggestions forum, since it will be spammed away behind ten pages of rediculous kiddy stuff within three minutes.
  12. Indeed, why do the dead "AI" bodies cause those glitches? Default dead AI and player units don't do it. Are they even usual infantry units with setdamage 1.0? Since you can't access their inventory (even empty) they seem to have been created in another way...
  13. Please remove all artificial colour effects (when being healthy enough). What is the logic behind the world being grey(ish), even in an apocalypse/endtime setting? The grass, the trees and everything else does not covered by a veil suddenly. It just looks ugly and rediculous. The default Arma II colors are just perfect. You just found a spot in a good ping server, then you discover that this stupid sepia/grey module is activated there.
  14. I suppose this thread to be spammed away within five minutes behind ten pages of rediculous "suggestions" of counterstrike-, bf- or wow-kiddies or other persons who even don't know at all how Arma scripting works. I suggest to remove the debug window NOW. Seemingly the game/mod will remain in an unfinished status for quite a time. Until then, despite of the debug process still going on, we should at least be able to play on a "clean" and "finished" LOOKING screen/hud. Actually this window does not provide useful information for the player that are really relevant for the gameplay (except "blood", but this might also be displayed in a litte bar or numerical percentage value (100% = full health) along with the icons for hunger etc.). Come on, what's e.g. the character name line for? Everybody knows his ingame name. That window in its unneccessary big size just uglyfies the default clean Arma screen. DayZ (neither alpha, beta, gold or whatever) does not need arcadish info displays. The looped 'hintSilent' for the debug window might at least combined with the 'visibleMap' condition check, to make it show up only when the map is opened and to get rid of that window during 3D gameplay. Such as: if !(visibleMap) then { goto 'endofloop' }; // code for debug window #endofloop
  15. roguetrooper

Please remove the debug window NOW

It hasn't been removed yet (I am aware of appearing like "oh, HERE, HERE, HERE, ahhh, heeeello, *I* am the most important person with the best suggestions"). It is very easy and quickly removed by spending 15 seconds of scripting. Very little work with a very great effect. That window is just annyoing and actually worthless. Forcing all players to have it enabled, does not improve or support the development phase at the faintest. Please remove it as soon as possible or make it show up only while the map is opened (maybe the better option). Yes, there are bigger gameplay affecting issues to be dealt with, but this window is just cluttering the screen while it is worthless for gameplay and development (except the blood display, which may be moved to the default DayZ HUD).
  16. NO HACKERS Mkay seriously: some kind of globally fixed difficulty setting, i.e. no crosshair and no 3rd person.
  17. roguetrooper

Too much complaining about 3rd person view

Lol, a thing that everybody can use or has access to, is no cheating. Further, "unrealistic" != "cheating" !
  18. roguetrooper

    Here's a Crazy Idea.....

If this mod had been released clearly declared as "deathmatch" instead of "do whatever you want to do", nobody would complain about players killing each other.
  19. roguetrooper

Love for the Winchester anyone? :D

I'd like to have it patched into the Arma 2 main game.
  20. Isn't the blood thing a bit strange? Why isn't a player's health displayed/handled as "health" from 0% (dead) to 100% (fully healthy)? Further, what is that amount (12000 or sth. like that)? Having 100% or 50% etc health is much more convenient and less strange. Hmmm.... I've lost 6000/12000 blood... i.e. 3.5 out of my 7 litres?
  21. All server messages (in the lower left HUD area) should be disabled without an option to enable them. Such as kill messages and log in and log out messages. It also shouldn't be a matter of the server's difficulty settings. These messages just don't fit into the open and 'anonymous' Dayz world. Though it's a feature of the Arma core game... but the bad ping chain symbol should also be removed. I'm not interested in whether every Tom, Dick and Harry has a bad connection. Everybody can have a look at his ping every time in the map screen.
  22. roguetrooper

    New Zombies Please?!

Zombies are NOT science fiction (= science of the future; like Star Trek beaming technology or phaser guns). Mkay, Rocket named them "infected", but why then is the mod called "DayZ", something like "Day of the Zombies" (mixture of D-Day [=special day] + zombie + ironical daisy [a warm, pleasant, nice summer day, flower stuff with nasty creatures underneath]) Nevertheless, indeed, there should be zombies with survivor/bandit (i.e. player characters) skins!

Mousing over a road sign should show the text in English.

I've learned Russian in school :-P But the point with your character being a native russian speaker, is a good one. That language issue also counts for Arma 2 in general. When you play as a russian or takistan(ian) soldier, you should also understand the AI sentences, since it's your own native language in that situation (i.e. the AI and your own radio sentences should be english instead of russian or persian) So there is no native population left after the apocalypse? Only tourists and foreign soldiers? Further, the main feature of Arma are not the default campaigns, but the editor :-)
  24. roguetrooper

    Removal of all gear.

A-L-P-H-A The gold status game/mod should restart from scratch (concerning inventory and player placed stuff).
  25. The command "setdamage" should have local effect only (surely more a matter for the BIS forums). Might solve that particular problem.
