Favorite things about .49 so far
roguetrooper replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
There is not the faintest difference to killing a zombie in melee combat. You still have do dance around him eternally to avoid his attacks and to hit him eventually. And when you haven't got a firefighter axe yet as an respawn, it takes 10 minutes to kill three zombies that attack you in a new spawn area village. -
I am not against various customizations. I would also vote for even more MMO'ish stuff and features. But I would say that the colour of the eyes, beards and scars does not help anybody to identify anybody (except within your fixed group of friends). Please note, I am not against you or whatever. But I'd say it is unrealistic: When you help freshspawns, none of them will be able to identify you later after some hours, "tomorrow" or even days BY YOUR LOOK (i.e. face, eyes etc). Maybe by your voice. The only thing to have somebody identify somebody is to display over-head-names in MMORPG style (maybe when the head is fully visible to you and withion a range of 20 ingame-meters and not covered by a mask or clothing). Btw, the only times I've NOT been shot at is when the other guy has no weapon (at least unholstered). 99% of armed people shoot at me immediately. Although I've not aimed at them before or shot at something else or took cover or whatever. When I am in line of sight of an 'unholstered' player, in 99% of all cases I am shot at - no matter what gear I have and how I behave.

What would it be good for? 99% of all other players won't see it and aren't interested in your look since they instantly kill you.

How To Increase Your FPS On DayZ (Now Getting Over 100FPS)
roguetrooper replied to youtubejmachine's topic in Gallery
Isn't there a cap at 60 fps? Even when I look straight down in 1st person mode onto a concrete road, I'm capped at 60. -
Most likely in the woods around that airfield or on a tower there is the best sniper spot in whole Chernarus :D
-
60 PLUS? My fps are capped at 60, even when I look straight down onto an asphalt road in 1st person.

Do you carry a handgun when you have an automatic rifle?
roguetrooper posted a topic in General Discussion
1.) Do you carry a handgun when you have an automatic (full or semi) rifle with a sufficient amount of ammo? 2.) Which handgun is it? 3.) In which situations do you use that handgun (i.e. have it in your hands)? -
Though I accidently posted the following lines already in the General forum instead of Suggestions, I haven't got a faintest idea why it had been deleted by the moderators. Risking to be warned or banned I try to repeat here what I've written about suggestions for a 3rd person view: In MMO-like games (yes, DayZ is one, since you care about the development/equipment/stats of your character) I like to see my toon from outside. Enjoying in new clothing, to posture with the weapon, for screenshots. Sure, 3rdp view is not realistic. But on the other hand in RL you still have more awareness of yourself and your environment than ingame 1st-p-view can provide. Neither 1st nor 3rd person view provide a realistic body-world-awareness and knowledge. * the camera might be attached nearer to the body (but still being able to have a full body screenshot) * the screen may softly fade out (completely black) for a few seconds when you change between 1st and 3rd * there are NO HUD elements (crosshair, hotbar, weapon info, inventory) available in 3rdp * the radius to hear player-caused sound effects (not speech, but steps, reloading, eating, gunfire etc) might be reduced to a few metres or disabled at all * 3rdp prevents shooting, reloading, switching weapon, taking sth, eating and all that -> you should only be able to walk, change stance, jump/get over, look around This would force players to think what view mode is the best at the moment and 3rdp would not be better in all concerns (except aiming) in comparison to 1stp. And maybe thereby it would be possible to cancel the "artificial" dispartment of the servers into two different factions. These are just ideas and suggestions and with no word I've said that one mode or lovers of it are [censored].

Unfortunately the cool looking holster (esp when filled with a Magnum ^^) is useless when you have a vest since you can wear only one of both at a time (hope it will be fixed some time). -
Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.

These are just some ideas how 3rd person view might be handled. -
Agathor made a review about all the smersh stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2yzVBB9Q0s Indeed, there are quite a lot smersh backpacks, but no vests. When at least the distribution was reversed. When you come across the backpack, you hardly take it, since you have to drop your bigger hunting (or whatever) backpack. You could make use of the smersh-vest while wearing another backpack and then attach a smersh-pack to the smersh-vest when you find one later...

Same stupid "running with pistol" animation as in A3
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
It's not about the speed, it's about the ANIMATION. One advantage of wielding a handgun (instead of a rifle) should be to be able to hold it in your hands and running at full speed as if you were holding nothing. At a certain speed, the character should put back the other hand to the pistol again. -
All items might consume one inventory slot. All items then might have a weight-value and a space-value. Containers' capacities are limited by total weight and total space (e.g. 10/10 and 12/12). This would reduce the tetris but still contribute to the fact that you have to organize your inventories. Further there should be some means to prevent being able to carry a conserve (or even more) in your trousers. After all of course there must be the need for thinking about what you want to carry with you. It must be "realistic".
-
"Why you kill me?" "Why you not believe cheaters?" What a wanker (the cheater).
-
Does weight has an influence on max speed and stamina/fatigue? Has anyone tested it in detail yet? Do items have a weight yet? IMO, carrying a handgun only, a few according magazines and some food and drinks should give you a clear advantage concerning max speed, stamina and the need for food in comparison to a fully equipped character with 100 filled inventory slots and a big rifle.

Why does feeling the pulse of an unconscious player or other actions reveal the name of that person? Shouldn't the feedback message of your action just be something like "I feel a weak pulse"?
-
Is this the most annoying thing in the game?
roguetrooper replied to therunningmanz's topic in Gallery
The most annoying thing are cheaters. KOSing, bambi torture and all this is "OK", since it's provided by the actual game engine. -
Why does 'feeling the pulse' reveal the name?
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
What I am actually aiming at is, when you feel the pulse of a person whose name you don't or can't know (sudden KOS or whatever, but that's not the point here), why is that unknown name revealed by checking the pulse? Domino25 above me said that it might be a substitute for facial identification. But then names should also pop up over heads of players that you've seen before when you see their face within a certain range. Sure, names in DayZ have not the faintest meaning since they are not woven into your character like in a MMORPG and can be changed unlimited and each time before entering a server. I'm just commenting a little detail. -
Why does 'feeling the pulse' reveal the name?
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
Somehow it's like an MMORPG name suddenly popping up over the head (in this realistic and 'informationless' game/world). And no. It's not a game breaker for me. I still consider it to be playable. -
Women have one slot more for zucchini.

The absolutely greatest part of players avoids to play in the dark as seen by player distribution across servers with certain times. When rain, i.e. water on your body, will have effect on the health of players, will players avoid servers where it is currently raining? In fact, nobody turns on the computer or DayZ to watch his character sitting under a tree or in a shelter for 30 or somewhat minutes until the rain has gone. Certainly I don't want DayZ to become a stupid Call-of-Battlefield-kiddy game, but it also doesn't need to turn into a body functions simulator. DayZ also lives on roaming the great distances and rural/natural areas in Chernarus. When rain eventually will have a negative effect on your character, you are nailed down in rain safe spot. There might be a lot of "server hopping" then (at login) to find a dry server as it used to be for night time before servers were marked with the current ingame time.
-
In reality you have rain capes that fold into your backpack consuming hardly space and that can be worn over your normal clothes. And coats and jackets whose zip can opened to regulate temperature and moisture. In DayZ currently you have to take off your whole jacket with all its items in it. In DayZ you can do the same... but... shit you know what I mean. Hopefully they don't turn it into a clothing management simulator.

A joke that covers and mixes DayZ, zombies, a video about a marriage in a zombie game, society, not knowing where the undead infection originated from (both in DayZ and famous zombie movies), prejudice, religion and all that.

WHY CAN I NOT USE A XBOX CONTROLLER AFTER THE LAST UPDATE
roguetrooper replied to Boxer23's topic in General Discussion
I use console controllers for DayZ. On servers where I am the only player. -
Weren't homosexual marriages actually the cause for the zombie outbreak?
