What stages of StandAlone would you set the Outbreak in?
beastoverlord replied to iashford's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would say Week 1... or at least that seems about where the mod currently is. -
Use search functions: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/38742-suggestions-for-the-dayz-standalone-thinking-outside-of-the-limitations-of-an-arma-2-mod/ I think they mentioned most of those already.

Some Suggestions and Changes for Immersion
beastoverlord replied to Clumzy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've always liked the scope idea. It would make it way more immersive. That would be the top of your list for me. -

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
beastoverlord replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Awesome updates! Thanks! Is there anyway that all of these little Q&A info tidbits can be either posted or linked on the front page? -
Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
beastoverlord replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Look through the thread man... he already answered this way earlier. And yes, I just spent 5 minutes so people stop posting about it. -
I think that a cool addition to the game would be an Infected hunger mechanic. What I envision is a much shorter version of the player hunger mechanic. I think that infected should have the lust to eat, but once it is satiated they won't be as aggressive. I think this could be a portion of the Infected life cycle that Rocket talked about (in one of his speeches I think) and what was also mentioned in this thread here: http://dayzmod.com/f...-it-would-work/ What I image is a range of Infected not being hungry at all to them starving to death and dying. When they are not hungry at all, they are moderately fast and will chase anything they hear or see at a moderate range (car, cow, player, etc). When the Infected start getting hungrier, they become faster and have heightened senses because of their desperation for food. I could see these ones being faster than a player and picking you up from just a little bit farther away. When the Infected are about to starve to death, they will become very slow, sluggish, and their senses will be diminished. I see these being very much like the slow walker Infected that are stereotypical of the genre. When hungry, an Infected will feed from any corpse. This can be other dead Infected, knocked-out/dead players, dead animals, and corpse piles (if they still have them). If an Infected is full, they will just ignore anything dead on the ground until they get hungry again. An Infected will increase its wander speed and range as it gets more desperate for food. I think the Infected hunger levels could make for some really awesome experiences: - Infected will be varied in speed and awareness, thus making the game-play more interesting. People have asked for different speeds, so here is a way to incorporate it AND have a good reason. - You will need to watch Infected more closely to figure out their hunger levels. If you go into a town of hungry but not dead Infected, they will give a better chase than full or starving Infected. - If you get knocked out and there are a bunch of full Infected nearby, they won't eat you. They are full and the can't tell the difference between you and a corpse. If they are hungry though, your organs might make a good snack - If an Infected kills an animal out of hunger, feeds from it, and you acquire meat from it, you may catch a disease that the Infected carried. This would be a great way to spread disease once they implement it in the SA - Infected can spread disease from themselves to dead players they feed off and acquire disease from dead players in return. (Now you'll want to guard that guy you sniped from Infected infecting his loot!) I think there could be some other cool implications of this. Maybe you can come up with some more? Tell me what you think! EDIT: I know that this would require a lot more character models, but maybe down the road this would be cool to have in the SA. I know they want a disease cycle too, so maybe they could incorporate it into something similar to this. EDIT 2: Changed the word zombie to infected in the thread to avoid the confusion. ZOMBIES are reincarnated bodies. INFECTED are merely people infected with a virus. Rocket seems to call the creatures in the mod Infected, so it should be safe to assume they aren't the undead.

I really do hope he does something similar to this. I feel that the zombies need to be harder. If they all are faster than you, that might be too hard, but if they are mixed difficulty it might be an easier transition.

I bet Sergey is crying because he doesn't have a cool thread like this. All he has is a forum full of angry people.

Why hackers are so common: a theory
beastoverlord replied to carpenatedbevrage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think there are more hackers in DayZ because it is part of Arma II which is made for scripts. Most of the hackers here don't use legitimate hacks, they just script things in that are already written in the games coding. A lot of games that aren't mods have very few hackers if any. When DayZ becomes a Standalone is will be much harder for people to cheat. -
This sounds similar to the DayZ Hunger Games, which was an ultimate fail. Great idea though, just hard to organize and pull off.

Developing a DayZ short film. I want your input.
beastoverlord replied to matthewc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't have a story, but here are some ways that you can have people interact to subtly indicate something is wrong. I think that one thing that is really interesting about the game is that you can judge people through something similar to 'body language.' I feel like this is probably pretty similar to real life. When you first meet someone, you should look for several signs to see if they are interested in killing you (other than simple RL body language). - Always pay attention to if the person walks next to you, in front of you, or behind you. If they are regularly behind you they don't trust you and are waiting to shoot you in the back usually. - Notice how vocal they are. If they don't have much to say, beware. - How do they aim their gun around you? If it's usually pointed in your general direction that's a bad sign. Make sure that if you trust someone you never bring the gun's sights near them - Do they regularly volunteer to use their scope/ binoculars to search for things? If they do that means they trust you enough to take their eyes off of you. - Are they greedy with the loot you acquire? If they are greedy they most likely just care for themselves and not the partnership. -
If its a private hive you should report it to the hive owners. I don't think they can do anything for you here.

I think most people will just pick the better clothes and not care about the color. Even if I'm a scavenger, if I find a neon orange rain coat and I don't have one, I'll probably keep it. I think that only fully kitted out people will really care about their clothing colors. In addition, I think that they should put blood stains on clothing if they are scavenged off a dead person. This would make people with bloodied clothing much more likely to be bandits because they would have stolen the clothes from their victim.

Remember, DO NOT turn down your 3D resolution. It should always be 100% or it will cause an even worse frame drop. If you have already turned down the other settings, it might just be your laptop. :(

Question regarding Server Saves
beastoverlord replied to brettuk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, if you want your gear to transfer from server to server you have to play on a public hive and only join public hives. If you play on a private it only saves the gear for that single server. -
zombie sounds suggestion /old/new? hmm?
beastoverlord replied to Amwulf's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The font style and size! It burns! Anyways... I think it's a decent suggestion. I would be pleasantly surprised if there were new sounds in the SA. -
Unable to join a game Error.Help!
beastoverlord replied to tony220jdm91's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
So you have Arma II and Arma II OA? Correct? Did you boot up both of the games BEFORE opening DayZ? Also, did it close your game or did it let you press okay? -
UK355 was hacked right now!!!
beastoverlord replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't play on public servers then. Just play on a privatehive with a whitelist. The first time the hacker hacks he will get permabanned, so usually he won't even take the time to sign up. -
If you don't have time for proper capitalization in the title of a thread advertising your server, why should I think that you will spend the time properly Admining the server?
