I read all the replies in here, short a few, they seem much more level headed and realistic. Honestly all I'd like to see is a sticky in the forums somewhere about these simple rules. I also think the problem is fall out from the lack of communication about modding in the early days of DayZ modding... I think it's fair to say that the initial batch of mods were far from approved, but at a certain point Rocket gave up on the idea of protecting his code from external use. However his failure to communicate on the subject has resulted in a lot of people using their own personal interpretation of his wishes as the new rules regarding modding. The long and short of it is the rules for Arma modding are already clear, and that's what applies to all other DayZ mods... Permission for use of the DayZ code is now handled by the community dev team : https://github.com/DayZMod/DayZ/wiki/License-and-permission-to-use The long and short of it, is, This place is the closest thing to an "official" forum, so IMO the lack of clarity regarding Arma Modding rules, and at least SOME enforcement of those rules on these forums is desperately lacking. SmashT's thread on mods should have a note about it so players know, and honestly if there are legit complaints received from addon author's like Vilas, the promotion of those mods on the official forums should be prohibited... Something tells me Reddit, and OpenDayZ.net would back that up as well... ONLY direct complaints from source authors with evidence.. not just shit stirring complaints from jealous other modders or disgruntled players. I know for a fact that Dotjosh would be willing to pull mods that are using disputed content, and Sickboy would no doubt follow suit... that would leave "rogue mods" only their own websites to promote them... Which gives you a happy healthy environment for Vilas and other source authors to feel like they have the support of those in the know at least. -

I haven't had time to read all the posts as yet.... One thing I think that everyone should keep in mind... 1. Vilas is not a native english speaker, and as such at time mis communicates his point, or drive. Also at times can mis-interpret what is going on.. He and I talk a lot on Skype and I think some of this on both ends is mis communication. 2. Vilas is not origins, nor does he prohibit use of his assets at their instruction. 3. Sahrani was/has/will be given access to many of Vilas' addons and even source in some cases. He is a LOT more open and giving than I think anyone bothered to find out here... 4. The anger and vitriol towards Origins is totally out of place in this conversation and irrelevant to whether or not Vilas wants to share or if he should be respected or not... You don't get to pick and chose who's rights you defend. Even if it meant dropping months of work we've done on source Vilas assets, if he wanted to pull his permission I would respect that.... and I would do so even if it was an obvious attack instructed by Origins or whatever other boogey many we're all blaming for our DayZ Rage lately... Frankly 2 of the projects that I had in the works will be shelved due to this situation even though Vilas has assured me there is no need to worry about the permissions... it is an act of solidarity not fear. The degree to which he was willing to share with our group due to our respect of the long standing and clear arma modding rules makes it more than clear to me that he is in no way under the thumb of, or in the pocket of Origins... Vilas is a standup guy, a terrifically talented modeller, and someone who's been freely giving to countless mods of Arma for a decade and has never asked for anything in return... -

========= Introduction ========= Welcome to Sahrani a fictional Atlantic island created by Bohemia Interactive (BI) for use in "ArmA: Armed Assault" (Better known as Arma 1) and it's expansion Queen's Gambit in the form of United Sahrani. Bohemia later revised the map and re-titled it "United Sahrani" for the DLC "Queen's Gambit" Thanks to the hard work of .kju[PvPscene] and the rest of the contributers to the Caa1 Project we are able to bring this amazing BI map to the DayZ Audience. Sahrani has a robust history and we will eventually add to this story by way of revealing the events that led to "Day Z" on Sahrani. The Sahrani Map is approx. 400 km2, (20,300km x 20,300km edge to edge) however actual land mass is closer to 100 km2 for the mainlands (Kingdom of South Sahrani (KSS) and Democratic Republic of Sahrani (DRS)) and approximately 120 km2 including all the smaller islands. The topography and terrain is varied and dramatic, offering what many consider to be the most dynamic setting ever put forward for the ArmA Universe. We have received the source files for the map from Bohemia Interactive and are doing a full port over of the map for Arma 2, this will fix lots of stuff users likely don't notice, and some that they do. Folks, folks, slow down, I can't answer all these questions at once lol... Here is a video showing the differences between A1/Caa1 Sahrani that our mod is currently on, and our full Arma 2 port that we recently completed. Our next DayZ Sahrani release will be on this updated version of the map with even more enterable buildings than shown in this vid. Hello Arma modders! We are a small but very passionate group of modders (Sahrani Mod Developers) who arededicated to sharing not only all the assets and IP we produce for Arma and it's sequels, but also the wealth of knowledge we are being given access to by way of advice from some of the most solid, and long standing pillars of this community! As some of you may know we were given the incredible opportunity to bring the Armed Assault campaign map Sahrani to Arma 2. We are almost done with our initial Arma 2 release! It was during this process as well as developing the DayZ Sahrani Mod that we came across Google+ and it's "Hangout" feature... it is truly amazing. It has allowed some of our less experienced modellers to show our more experienced modellers exactly what they are working on and what is giving them problems real time.. We have now used it several times to do development sessions where our productivity is just drastically increased. From this birthed an idea... ArmaVersity We intend on having weekly or monthly get togethers where anyone is welcome, new, old, experienced, or completely new to modding. I think we may in the spirit of Arma (and depending on how much interest there is) establish a rank system where you are expected to patiently sit and listen the first few visits... then can get direct help. This is all still being fleshed out so please offer up any and all suggestions! The end goal is to have this process, allow the newer guys to pay for their education by re-writing or updating the tutorials for each specific type of asset or modding type. Then have that How To overviewed by the teacher to ensure accuracy. We will start with modelling, but are likely going to branch out to Script and Terrain sessions as well. This should create a library of MUCH MORE thorough, up to date, and robust how to's. I want to do anything and everything we can to keep information produced available here, the biki, armaholic, dev-heaven, OFPEC, PMC, AND the DayZ sites as well. I have only just started really fleshing this out, THIS WEEKEND, so it's a big WIP, but I think it should come together pretty fast, it seems to be getting support from people I bring it up to. You seen it here first kids... Thanks to Joe for amazing models and textures! Thanks to Pliskin for helping with the batch creation of the models and thanks to me for doing the magazine.cfg and putting them into the loottables (food for full cans and trash for empties)... Still some detail stuff to do in the configs and stringtables though, will do my best to get all that ironed out this week, we MIGHT be able to get it worked into the next update. -
Lol, yeah he's really good with the effects, he has some batman vids that are pretty sick, stuff blowing up and people getting knocked all over the place... I gotta get him some kind of tutoring or something for it though, cuz I can experiment and come up with stuff, but I'm sure there are people who have worked out methods for tons of this... Should find a book... But no reshoot this weekend we were pretty busy. I gotta get him rigged up better too and I"m super lazy.

You just have to adjust your play style... The zombies aren't nearly as sensitive as you think. I have another video where I aggro them on purpose and lose them within seconds, they're actually too easy IMO. -

Just FYI the Sahrani map is actually 20.3k x 20.3k edge to edge, not 10x10. There is approx. 104sqkm of usable landmass on the two mainlands and about 120-130sqkm including the other smaller islands. -

Your wish is our command. Since Sahrani is a Bohemia Map from ArmA 1, getting the approvals and license from BI took quite a while! I BELIEVE this is the first time they've ever released source files for a map to a dev team. But now it's on DayZ Commander and Play With SIx, We have source file for the map and are already getting well into the tedious process of doing a full and proper port over to Arma 2. -

We are honored! Always meant to give your servers a try but have been pretty busy lately ;-) I've heard so many good things about your servers I can't wait to make the whitelist! We are developing the map and mod VERY actively. So please don't hate us if any changes you make get affected in coming updates. A lot of the feature people are adding will eventually be part of the mod. Feel free to PM or email if you have any questions or if there are any specific features you really would like to see in the mod... I will put it out there that the mod is 100pct aimed at making PVE a VERY real aspect of the mod again. Teaming up is a very good decision... shooting at players in a city is a very BAD decision... We like adding mechanics and content ensuring that they are all thoughtfully built out. Our crafting system is just a proof of concept as is, it will be fully built out in due course. *edit Couldn't resist, approval came in right as I was going to go to sleep, played for over an hour... Pretty sure this is a match made in heaven! We are building this mod to be more PVE and Survival/team up encouraging! LOVED no waypoints (we've blocked ALL peripheral dots in the mod), it ran great on your server, and I was REALLY happy to see the map in something besides 24hr high noon. Stars over Arcadia had my heart fluttering! -
So here are more of the minifigs all pose'd up: Truck, Deerstand, UAZish, Bandit, Survivor 1, Survivor 2, Hero, Ghillie Groups lol, there are more, I just did ~3 of each (he has like 8 bandits 10-20 survivors/citizens, 10 or so soldiers, and 1 ghillie.. they (his little sister helps) dug trough every bin trying to find the right pieces to make a ghillie suit. Here is a quick one he did while going through the tutorial for the software my sister got him, He actually has a bunch with no effects of sounds that are 100x better. He once he gets into a rhythm with making them with the new software he'll start banging them out. I'll give him a hand this week and next and keep encouraging him to get a short DayZ one done. He's done a whole set, and a ton of minifigs, not sure when he'll actually do the movie though. He's been having problems using new software his aunt bought him that does effects, I'll have to give him a hand at some point. Back row is all Bandits, then soldiers, then survivors, then females lol, not sure what the dude with the hat is He love's those DayZ Super Fun Adventures videos, might be from there. Woodland Set/DeerStand The workspace lol going to build him out a wider bench with a rail to slide a camera on.
