a study of the carebear (ursus cura)

The post is nothing more than an insulting sneer at how other people play the game. I suppose that's up to Lee and how he gets his kicks. But the misuse of the word 'anarchy' has been noted. >:(

    Hi Guys

Welcome old horse to the knackers yard :) I agree the above, stick with vanilla. I think fellow forumers have you sorted out already but you're welcome to PM me too if you have any questions. My first death was a fall from a building.... so take it easy out there!

Ah fellow Phil, good point. When I'm driving in DayZ I feel like a mobile target. I agree it's all about the fixing up rather than the actual driving.

Very true and knowledge of this won't stop the rage when people find their characters and inventories refreshing on numerous occasions. :) It's the double edged sword of playing a game while still in comparatively early development. I will get the SA at the earliest opportunity and the most I expect is that I may in some small way be helping with the testing. To see it otherwise would be quite foolish
  8. I've been playing for a year or so. I remember the spring of 2012 when I first started to hear about DayZ and I found some footage on youtube. At the time I was still mostly a console gamer and only had Civ 5 on my laptop. I badly wanted to play DayZ but didn't think my laptop would be able to handle it. I spent months drooling over DayZ videos and got really excited when Dean said he planned to make a standalone. I watched and waited for info, I then joined the forum and then my impatience finally won over and I tried installing the mod on my laptop. Best decision I ever made. My laptop handled DayZ really well on low settings and I could get 30 - 40FPS (outside of cities) but I started hankering to play on a desktop. A nice chap called BF John and another, Aitchy, would educate me on things PC related while playing DayZ and I decided to save up to get a decent rig. John even showed me around a motherboard and how things work so I had a good idea of what I wanted. So, I'm getting off point, here I am a year or so later and I'm still playing DayZ at least once or twice a week. I just have this need to log in. I play on a few servers, I have a Takistai warlord on Musty Epoch, a ghillie in the mist on DayZ vanilla public, and various characters on various other mods depending on which map I fancy playing. How about you guys? What brought you to DayZ Do you still get on much and if not, why not?

DayZ Mod - who still plays?

Well, you're going to love the SA then eh! Personally Chernarus is my favourite map and vanilla too. I do like Taviana.... and Namalsk when the temperature guage is working.... but as I've said probably before there's nothing quite like a new spawn in Chernarus with the sea whispering behind you and only the heart of darkness awaiting you.

Quick update for 19 November 2013

Ha! Glad I stayed up late :) in solidarity with the SA team! These guys must be running on pure adrenalin. Rocket, if you ever actually stop working on the SA it might be your undoing. Moral: never ever stop

DayZ Mod - who still plays?

I get that I suppose but until the SA comes out there's not a lot to compare. I know a lot of people have been put off by the cod mentality pervasive in many servers and I suppose there's just that fatigue of playing the same game too much and for too long :) I dunno, I suppose I still get some of that early excitement even now, on those evenings where I'm really engrossed and not being disturbed by the sounds and sirens of hackney via the open window :D

DayZ Mod - who still plays?

Yeah I forgot about that. I often decide which server depending on how long I think I have play-wise. I do a lot of skulking between the airfields mostly, haven't been to Elektro in ages!

Interview with Origins development lead Kinghunt

It does make you wonder what wonderful ways people will find to leech off the Standalone, I wasn't aware of half of what goes on with Origins so thanks for the info.

    October Round-up: #DayZDaily

Yep, I really want to contribute and help make this a fantastic game. That should be the main focus of the alpha. I did offer my services to test mod updates but never got a reply

    October Round-up: #DayZDaily

I have one week holiday left to take between now and christmas, I'm holding back on booking a date in case the SA is released before the end of the year. Me my new uber PC, Dayz SA and a week off work. Bring it on :)

    DayZ Early Access on SteamDB.info?

I think this advice may fall on deaf ears but your optimism is truly inspiring :)

Man, I'm trying to get this back on OP, I almost spat out my tea when I read that :D

A tip for an unwise chap

I'd follow Orlok's advice. Find a low pop vanilla server and just enjoy. Get a feel for the game and for the environment. And the controls. Have a go on the Arma tutorials too :)
